Microsoft Word is a word processing program, or simply called a word
processor, which was developed by Microsoft. As such, it processes words, but
also larger units such as paragraphs, pages, etc. Together with Excel and
PowerPoint, it is part of Microsoft Office, a suite of desktop applications.
Microsoft Word is used by millions of people around the world and although
there are free versions of other very good word processors, it is by far the most
popular one and is widely used in various spheres of our lives. For many people
it is an integral part of their work and is also used in business, for educational
purposes, etc.
The file extension for documents, created with Microsoft Word 2003 and its
previous versions is “.doc”. However, the documents that are created with the
newer versions of Word, namely Word 2007 and Word 2010, have the ".docx"
extension. Older versions of Word cannot read this format, but it is possible to
converted the documents with a ".docx" extension to documents with a “.doc”
extension.
2. In order to do this, go to the Office button, select Save As, then choose"Word 97-2003
Document" and the Save button. Also, a person may convert a Microsoft Word document to
a PDF document in the following way: open the file you want to convert, choose the File
button in the top left corner, select Save As and then PDF. Then give the file a name and, if
you want to reduce its size, choose Minimum Size. Select Save and you are ready.
When it comes to searching words, there is such a possibility for a person working with a
Word document. In this case one has to press Control and F, and then select the Find All
button. However, if you want to search words or phrases in more than one document, then
SeekFast turns out to be a better choice. It is perfectly possible to use the programme for
searching words and phrases in documents with “.doc” extension. Since SeekFast works
with other file formats as well, for example text files, rich text format files, and PDF files,
users have the option to specify the file type of the documents to be searched. In order to
do this, they should go to Tools, choose Options, then File types and finally select Microsoft
Word documents (doc).
