GENRE & INSPIRATION
■ The genre of the film is a psychological which is shown through the mental illnesses
shown from the main character of Morgan.These include depression, schizophrenia
and paranoia.
Three films which have inspired us are:

■ Donnie Darko
RESEARCH
■ In the UK, a quarter of girls and nearly one in ten boys show signs of depression at the
age of 14.
■ Although there is a higher statistic of girls suffering from mental health, half of
teenage boys in the UK would not feel comfortable talking to another male about
mental health due to feeling like they do not want to disturb or annoy them. This
reveals that there is a large potential that many boys hide and do not seek help for
mental issues.This is reflected in our character of Morgan due to being unaware and
hiding his mental health away from the people around him.
■ There is a growing number of 235,000 children and young people under the age of 18
were receiving specialist care.
■ Factors which are likely to contribute are exam stress, family issues, bullying, low self-
esteem and peer rejection. His

■ In todays society there are a lot of fears.These being the fear of the effect of bullies
and how they influence someone’s every day life for the worse.The thought of
someone constantly mocking you every day for everything that you do.There is a fear
is of being alone with no one to turn to, losing all your friends or never even having
friends in the first place.This potentially all leading to the deterioration of the mental
mind.
TARGETAUDIENCE
■ The target audience of the film would be young adults ranging between 16-25 years
old.The audience of the film will be mainly male this due to our main character being
male and also due to us going against the stereotype of females suffering from mental
illness.
■ Our audience would also be interested in films such as Donnie Darko,The Shining,
Split due to them involving psychological issues as a main part of the plot attracting
our audience.

■ Home: main location receiving cyber bullying. In his bedroom, revealing his own personal
space and his relationship between him and his imaginary friend.
■ School: this location will be used often to reveal how isolated Morgan is from his
classmates and also where he begins to receive help.
■ Castle Meadows,Abegavenny: this peaceful location is where Morgan reveals how alone
he is a character is as well as where he speaks to his imaginary friend away from reality in

■ Imaginary Friend- Inspired by the film ‘A Ghost Story,’ the imaginary friend will be
dressed in dark clothing with a mask which reveals the character is different and
supernatural.
■ Bullies- Both bullies will be dressed in their own clothing, such as jeans and hooded
jumpers to reflecting their youth
■ Psychiatrist- Dressed smart (e.g.: shirt and trousers) to reflect their professionalism
■ Mother-The character will be dressed in a smart manner to reveal their dedication and
professionalism to her job which diverts her attention from her son.
■ Teacher- smartly dressed such as shirt and smart trousers reveal their interest and
dedication.

PLOT
■ A seventeen year old boy named Morgan suffers from depression, paranoia and anxiety. His parents divorce led to
his mental health to spiral.They don't pay their son any attention what so ever, they have not noticed him
deteriorate. His teacher notices his grades slipping, usually he is an intelligent pupil who always gets good grades.
Morgan is a victim of bullying, the bully is called Zac who is the main bully out of the group of bullies. Every night
Morgan receives horrifying messages not only from Zac but from the rest of the group too via social media. He sits
on his bedroom floor staring at his laptop screen reading them, day after day for hours and hours. Not knowing
what he has done to deserve such horrible messages. His school and home life has changed so much compared to
how his life used to be and he is struggling to cope with it. He turns to self half as a way of coping, he isolates
himself and begins to despise school which he always used to enjoy. He used to have a circle of friends, he used to
enjoy going to school and seeing them, he liked to complete work. But now he hates it, he hates it all.
Morgan has a friend, an imaginary friend.This friend encourages Morgan to retaliate against these bullies, he
should not let them walk all over him, he should retaliate. No one knows about this friend that Morgan has, only
him. Each night when Morgan receives messages and he stares at the screen angry, annoyed and upset.At one
point it gets so bad that he tries taking his own life by over dossing. But things change when he begins to retaliate,
by words and words only. No physical harm is done.The teachers are still concerned about the state in which
Morgan is in, and it gets all too much for him and he reveals what has been happening in his life.They arrange for a
psychiatrist to help him, after a few months of Morgan going to a psychiatrist his grades begin to get back to how
they used to be, and he is much more content.
