2. Everyone knows that a restaurant is an establishment
where food is prepared and served to customers in
exchange for money. But beyond this very basic
definition, restaurants may be categorized based on a
myriad of factors, from services, location, and specific
cuisine to cost, atmosphere, formality, and so on.
3. Fast food is a type of restaurant in which customers have a quick
meal.
Fast food is typically characterized by a relatively modest
cost and the wide distribution of outlets. The clientele features
mainly the younger age groups, but also an increasing proportion
of adults for reasons related to working rhythms.
Fast food is often considered synonymous of unhealthy food for
the poor quality and variety of ingredients and for the abundance
of fried, fatty, salty and sugary items.
4. The tavern or inn is a kind of restaurant in which mainly
wine is served along with food and snacks. They are
usually located in the suburbs or along highways.
A taverna is a small, traditional Greek restaurant,
characterized by rustic decor, authentic atmosphere, and a
limited inexpensive menu – usually consisting of simple
local dishes such as
grilled meats, fish &
seafood, and, of course,
their ubiquitous dips
and spreads..
5. A bistro is a small restaurant born in Paris, serving
economical simple food in an informal setting. It is a
very simple place with a reduced size, where the
manager and chef converge in one person.
In the bistros, customers
may enjoy French cuisine
or sip a glass of wine
or coffee.
6. A licensed vehicle equipped with a kitchen to cook and serve
food at temporary sites. Unlike the average hot dog carts or taco
wagons, these restaurants on wheels travel on their own power
and are packed with more sophisticated cooking appliances,
providing a superior street food experience.
Focusing on limited, yet inventive dishes at reasonable prices,
gourmet food trucks are a growing trend all over the world.
7. Eatery where customers pay a fixed fee and then serve
themselves to as much food as they wish to eat. They
usually feature multiple food stations, with everything
from salads to hot items and desserts.
8. Family style restaurant is very similar to casual dining with a
difference, that the food is served in a bigger dishes on tables
where customers can serve the food for themselves and pass it to
the other people at the table. Benefits of the family restaurant
include a relaxed atmosphere where customers have more
control over what they eat. It caters well to families with children
or groups of friends.
9. These are informal places where customers serve themselves.
The owners of these restaurants aim at quickness rather than
quality, having customers in a hurry as their target.
Self-service restaurants are almost everywhere: supermarkets,
shopping centers, hotels, close to offices and schools, and so on.
