Climate change issues due to human emissions

In the 1980s, a big environmental problem was
Acid Rain caused by emission of SOx and NOx
components from burning fossil fuel. Cars and
industry were major contributors. Issue solved
by removing sulphur and nitrogen from
gasoline, exhaust gas catalysts for cars and
smoke cleaning for industry. Issue contained.
In the early 2000s, the hole in the ozone layer
above Antarctica was at its largest. The ozone
layer helps protect Earth from harmful radiation
from space and is affected by human emission
of CFCs (ChloroFluoroCarbons) mainly used as a
coolant in refrigerators. Currently the hole is on
a gradual trend towards healing.
Global warming is caused by emission of greenhouse
gasses, the most important contributor is CO2
produced by burning fossil fuels. The greenhouse
gasses prevent radiation of heat from earth into the
stratosphere by reflecting part of the radiation back
to earth. The Paris climate agreement aims to keep
global temperature rise this century well below 2
degrees Celsius. In progress…
