1. GOLD
Gold is a beautiful metal. The gold is for the winners.
It also has many other different uses, for example, there is small
pieces of gold in satellites, in some computers and so on.
There is gold in mines, in South Africa, but these mines are very
deep and therefore it is very dangerous, difficult and hard totake
it out.
The biggest piece of gold in the world was found in Australia.
The Egyptian liked and used gold, so it was found in the tomb of
Tutankhamun. And we can see Tutankhamun's gold mask in this
photo.

2. The Greeks also used gold, therefore they invented the history of
king Midas.
The Romans used the gold to make coins with the head of the
emperor Augustus.
The Incas and Aztecs made many objects of gold but when the
Europeans invaded South and Central America, they took everything.
But this gold did not come to Europe because some galleons full of
gold were attacked by pirates.
In 1848 someone discovered gold in California. And people from all
around the world went to America to look for gold. It is called "Gold
Rush".
Nowadays governments have a lot of money. The government of the
USA has more gold than any other country.
