4. OBJECTIVES
Fast genetic improvement of Murrah
To identify the top quality Murrah germplasm
through field performance recording
Serves as an in situ germplasm bank for further
preservation and propagation
5. INTERVENTION
Identification – 2600 L milk in one lactation period
Male progeny procured and are reared under
scientific management
Individual yield records are pooled and compiled
Upon identification, insured with at least 50% of the
premium and regarded as prized national wealth.
To motivate the owner, cash incentives are provided
under the RKVY scheme.
6. Creates an ‘in situ” Murrah Germplasm Bank
Recorded buffaloes are required to breed their
animals through artificial insemination only
50% of extra feeding cost sponsored by RKVY
Incentivising establishment of Murrah Breeders
Societies in ideal Murrah Villages
24 ideal Murrah villages - 5 lakh for each
7. OUTCOMES
2008 – 2011 1580 lakhs 22950 animals
4000 young bulls have been to gram Panchayats
24 ideal Murrah villages (Murrah Germplasm Bank)
10% increase in milk production of the state in 3years
Incentives of 25000 rupees for recording yields of
over 25 litres per day
