The Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1968 Essay
It was a hard time, and for many black persons, it seemed as if all the broken promises of Reconstruction were epitomized in the actions of the Supreme
Court of the United States. Ever since the 1870's, the Court had been eviscerating the congressional legislation and constitutional amendments that had
been established at the height of Reconstruction to protect some of the basic citizenship rights of black people. 1954 was a new time and more than
tears and words were needed. Just about everyone that was black and alive at the time realized that the long, hard struggles, led by the NAACP, had
forced the Supreme Court to take a major stand on the side of justice in the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision. "We... Show more content

Martin Luther King Jr. becomes leader of the 12–ВЅ month boycott. In November of 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court rules the Montgomery's
segregated bus system is unconstitutional. Although the Brown ruling of 1954 was a unanimous decision, the American public's reactions to it
varied greatly. In the North, where segregated schooling was not a matter of public policy, blacks viewed the decision as a victory for equality. Most
whites in Northern states felt that the decision had little meaning for them. In the South, however, many whites viewed the Court's decision as an
intrusion of the federal government into their way of life. Southerner's pointed out that the North, too, was segregated. Black people in the South
were profoundly affected by the court decision. Many felt for the first time that the government might be on their side, and that it might now be
possible to throw off years of oppression. But a year passed before the Court delivered its instructions on just how school desegregation was to be
implemented. When the Court's directions in what has to be known as Brown II were summarized in the phrase "with all deliberate speed," many
black people were disappointed and felt that the government would not support desegregation. In 1957, the Little Rock School Board decides to admit
nine black students to its Central High School. The Governor calls out the National Guard

Some one's Journal 1954 – so today the Brown v Board passed I'm glad that blacks are getting a good education, but Arkansas refused to integrate
which I'm not proud of as a white person.
1957 – Two years passed and finally they aloud integration. 17 blacks at first wanted to go to integration, but sadly as I heard only 9 wanted to at the
end.
1st day of school – Dang it Faubus why did you send the national guard to stop the LR9 from entering the high school.
Aug. 25th – Yes, the Supreme Court Judge says that integration should continue, eat that governor Faubus!
Sep. 23rd – The LR9 ,as they named them selves, are returning to the high school but there is a huge crowd of angry white people

Segregation Education 1954
In 1954, Brown v. Board of Education Topeka changed history by banning segregated schools. Though schools themselves may not be segregated,
inside the schools, segregation is still alive. This academic gap may start as young as the age of two. Leading there to be a possible link to a person's
race and the quality of an education.
As I mentioned in the beginning the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education Topeka ended the segregation of schools. The integration
of schools of course had not only achieved equality of education between white and black children but also came with a plethora of other benefits.
According to the American Psychological Association, "higher levels of racial integration are associated with elevated achievement

Lap At Last 1954-1975 Analysis
Doc–Lap at Last
1954–1975
The Americans cringed at the thought of a Communist Vietnam, and picked up where the French left off. A peace accord temporarily divided Vietnam
in half, promising elections for the whole country by 1956. With Ho in full control of the North, the Americans backed a French–educated
anti–Communist named Ngo Dinh Diem in the South.
As President, Diem managed to alienate everyone, arresting thousands of dissidents and condemning scores to death. In 1956, he was accused of
blocking the elections, adding fuel to a growing brushfire of rebellion.
The U.S. responded by pumping money into Diem's failed regime and sending military "advisers," many of whom were unofficially engaged in combat.
Then, on August 2, 1964, reports reached Washington alleging that three North Vietnamese boats had attacked the U.S.S. Maddox on patrol inVietnam

But as darkness fell, a surprise attack interrupted the revelry. More than 80,000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops stormed major cities and even
the U.S. Embassy in Saigon.
U.S. troops turned back the so–called Tet Offensive. But the American people, tiring of an expensive and seemingly fruitless conflict, turned against
the war. President Richard M. Nixon took office in 1969 amid a rising tide of anti war sentiment. He agreed to begin pulling out of Vietnam. It took
four more years of fighting and thousands more casualties, but in March 1973, the last U.S. troops withdrew.
Two years later, on April 30, 1975, columns of North Vietnamese soldiers entered Saigon, meeting little resistance from the demoralized South
Vietnamese army. The last American officials fought their way onto any aircraft available and left Vietnam to the Communists. Ho Chi Minh, who had
died in 1969, did not live to see the moment. After years of struggle, Vietnam had been unified– but by force and at the cost of millions

Brown V. Board of Education (1954)
Stacy Flores POLS 210 B045 Fall 12 American Government I Professor Carlos Soltero Fall Term Final Exam Question 1 Brown v. Board of
Education (1954) This case dealt with racial segregation in a public school which was the norm across America in the early 1950's. All schools in
a given district were in fact supposed to be equal, however, most black schools were far inferior to white schools. This case was based on a black
third grader by the name of Linda Brown in Topeka, Kansas, having to walk a mile through a railroad switchyard to get to her black elementary
school even though a white elementary school was only seven blocks away from her home. Oliver Brown, Linda's father, tried to enroll her in the white

Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined with other cases that challenged school
segregation in other states. The Supreme Court first heard the case on December 9, 1952 but failed to reach a decision so they reargued the case
on December 7, 1953. The Supreme Court struck down the "separate but equal" doctrine of Plessy for public education and ruled in favor of the
plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of schools across America. Education is possibly the most important function of state and local
governments today. Attendance laws and the amount of money spent of our education system both demonstrate the recognition of the importance
placed on education in our society. Education is required in the performance of the most basic public responsibilities which includes the service in
our armed forces. A good education is the foundation of good citizenship and helps children from every walk of life understand cultural values and
help him or her to adjust normally to their ever changing environment. It is very doubtful that any child today may reasonably be expected to
succeed in every aspect of life is they are denied the opportunity of an education which is offered equally to every child. Education is the opportunity
offered to all and is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms. "Brown v. Board of Education, widely celebrated as a promise to end

Civil Rights Movement 1954-1970
The civil rights movement impacted America from 1954 to 1970 in monumental ways. In 1954 they had the Brown vs. Board of education, that
overruled the Plessy vs. Ferguson case making the separate but equal law illegal. All the schools had to be desegregated now.(http://www.civilrights.org
/) But this didn't eliminate all violence or make anything equal because the next year Emmit Till was kidnapped and murdered in Money, Mississippi.
Later that same year the Montgomery Bus Boycott started when Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on the bus.The montgomery

Malcolm X had been an islamic pastor. He was murdered by the same group. He was killed february of 1965. Many of the successes during the civil
rights era revolved around school and the desegregation of them. Any instance that didn't end in the discrimination of a person of color could be

Gandhi: His Life and Message for the World (1954)
A private citizen without health died on January 30, 1948. Mohandas K. Gandhi fell after being shot three times at the age of seventy–eight. Many
people looked up to Gandhi. To pay respect, humanity followed by the UN lowered their flags to half–mast. Almost a million people waited near
Jumna, not far from New Delhi, for the funeral to proceed. Not far from the river was a pyre built of stone, brick, and earth. Gandhi's body will lie
upon this pyre; having his head to the north, representing when a Buddha has ended his life. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar,
India on October 2, 1869. His parents' names were Karamchand and Putlibai. Gandhi's father owned a home in Rajkot, ... Show more content on

Gandhi immediately said he will be the first knowing death would come from a brother. He was to die on January 30, 1948. Pathans and Mir Alam
were arrested for their threats toward Gandhi. Yet, Gandhi released them saying, "I have no desire to prosecute them".
In 1909, Gandhi sailed back to England for business. It turned out very good for Gandhi in England. He won support of many of the people. When
Gandhi returned to South Africa at the end of 1909 he started to create a "a sort of co–operate commonwealth". This is where citizens would be
trained to live a normal life in harmony with one another. On November 6, 1913 thousands of people marched with Gandhi twenty–one miles into
Transvaal. Gandhi was arrested by the end of the first day. Yet, he was released due to the fact he was responsible for the other marchers. He was
again arrested the second night and then later released after court. The fourth day he was arrested with Polak and Kallenbach. The three of them were
held there until December 18, 1913.
PART II: Not only was Gandhi a huge impact in the twentieth century, but so was Tagore. They worked very well together. In February 1916, Gandhi
spoke out to the students at the opening of the Hindu University Central College in Benares. Satyagraha Ashram was first located in Krochrab, then in
Sabarmati. In 1914, Gandhi raised a group of Indian students to serve in the British Army. Four years later, Gandhi recruited for the British Army in his

My Greatest Moment In School
One of the greatest moments happened when I was in the eighth grade. It was when I started wearing the hijab for sure and I lost a lot of my
friends. I felt really lonely and I started sitting by myself during lunch for the first time ever. I stopped getting invited to birthday parties and
whatnot. One day during my English class two of my friends that weren't talking to me at the time came up to me and told me they supported my
decision. They explained to me how hard it was for them because they've never seen me with the hijab, but they also wanted to try it because it was
new to them. My English teacher, Mrs. Fernald overheard us talking and said: "why don't you bring us hijabs tomorrow, we'll wear it with you". I
was really excited and was so happy that I started getting teary simple because I felt good to know that I wasn't alone. The next day I brought them
hijabs and put it on for them and we took a picture together. That picture still means the world to me. I started wearing the hijab because I felt like
it was the right thing to do, but it was a hard transition. My friends kept telling me to take it off and kept asking if I was having a bad hair day. It
was hard for me to explain it to them because they kept asking why now? It was hard to explain it to them in general. That moment showed me that
my hijab wasn't stopping me from doing anything and that people would support me if I showed them that my hijab didn't change who I am. My

1. Civil war The Civil war is the most important event in America's history. The reason being is because it ended slavery in America. And that is a
really big deal. The war was fought between the south states that wanted slavery and had slavery, and the north states that wanted to get rid of slavery.
This was a war that only involved America. At the time Abraham Lincoln was president during this time and he was assassinated only six days after
the war ended. But this ended slavery in America, so that's why the civil war gets the number 1

Is Survival Selfish By Lane Wallace Summary
A close review of the literature reveals that your state of mind during a matter of life or death situation will influence the outcome of your survival. In
the argument Is Survival Selfish by Lane Wallace, I woman that had been in an airliner that crashed on landing,"(realized) that the people around her
were too paralyzed to react (in the situation), (so) she took direct action...(Wallace 318). This example showed that your state of mind in a life or death
situation will influence your outcome because the woman had to understand the situation that she was in and acknowledge that she had to get out of the
plane. Through her observations, there was nothing that she could do to help the other passengers out of the plane because they were too paralyzed to
react. This influenced her outcome because if she hadn't looked out for herself than she would have had the same fate as most of the passengers in the
crashed plane.
Another example that your state of mind during a matter of life or death situation will influence your outcome is in the speech "Truth at all Cost", by
Marie Colvin. Truth at all cost is about an author sharing her story as being a war correspondent. In Marie's speech, she says, "journalist covering
combat, shoulder great responsibilities, ...(and sometimes) they pay the ultimate price...(Colvin 85)." This example shows that your state of mind will
influence your outcome because the journalists who decided to do the job of reporting back the news of war had

The Landlord And Tenant Act 1954
The Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 (LTA 1954) is an important piece of legislation affecting a large number of properties and a considerable section
of the community. This LTA 1954 came into operation on 1 October 1954. The act was introduced to address a chronic shortage of commercial
premises, exacerbated by the bombing raids of the German air force. Tenants were vulnerable to exploitative landlords using the end of the contractual
term to demand greatly increased rents for a renewal lease or to take on, without compensation, goodwill built up or improvements made by the tenant.
The LTA 1954 was urgently needed to replace temporary measures enacted in 1951 shortly before the Attlee government lost office. It is worth to

The most important thing to ascertain is that you have the most up–to–date version as acts are constantly being amended and/or repealed. The Landlord
and Tenant Act 1954 has since its introduction over the last five decades has proved to be difficult to deal with and has since been seen as an Act
which essentially remains the same and which has not seen any significant changes since its inception.
The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 which set up is to trawls for redundant law.
The aim of the Commission is to keep the law under review and to recommend reforms where it is needed. In the 1992 report by the Commission, it
explained the background to the review on the LTA 1954 and its aim as follows: "The 1954 Act is an established part of the commercial property
market and the practices of that market develop and change over the years, so it is appropriate for the statutory provisions to be reviewed from time to
time to ensure that they are still fulfilling their intended purpose. On this occasion, we have identified some features which experience has shown
could benefit from change." Following the report, the Commission recommended several reforms and additions to the Act.
However writers, property practitioners and law practitioners like Malcom Dowden, Sahonte R & Watson B. and Michael Driscoll (QC) among others
admit that even though there are several reforms to the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954

Brown V Board Of Education Case Of 1954
Political change can take a long time. Sometimes it is so slow in coming that those who stand to gain from such change decide to help expedite the
process of political decision–making. African Americans in the US, especially in the south were still at the receiving end of racial injustice. A
"separate but equal" policy was enforced in 1886–97 when the Supreme Court ruled that segregation was not discrimination. Segregation was seen as a
process that severely limited the opportunities of black people. In 1954 the "Separate but Equal" policy took a major hit in the Brown v. Board of
Education Case of 1954. They stated that in the field of public education, the policy of "Separate but Equal" has no important place. By this time Black

Since Brown v. Board of Education of 1954 did not demand any time limit, educational segregation existed well into the 1960s. To due its lack of
demand in time this represented an almost insurmountable obstacle to economic opportunity for African Americans. But because of Brown v Board of
Education it was brought into the general public eye that this is was a serious matter and not only in the U.S, but also internationally. The Civil Rights
Movement emerged as an organized fight to secure basic rights and privileges for all U.S. citizens. It later turned into a mass movement, which
included organizations like the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), the

In 1939, Vietnam was part of a French indo–china. This area was Laous, Cambodia and Vietnam. This area was all part of the French empire in the
19th century. The French colonial rule was barely resisted by the people ofVietnam but this harsh rule led to growing anti–colonial feeling. Working

The only resistance to this Japanese rule was the Vietminh. The aim of this organisation was to establish an independent and free Vietnam that was not
under control of any foreign power. This meant a fight against the French and the Japanese. This rule was formed by Ho Chi Minh in 1941.
Throughout the war, they attacked the French. Support grew in 1942 and 1943 but by 1944, they were strong enough to attack the two French out posts.
In 1945, the Japanese finally over threw the French government and started to control the towns, leaving country areas alone. This allowed the
communists to build up support in those areas. Quite soon afterwards, they defeated the Japanese and the war was over. After dropping atomic bombs
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the people of Vietnam planned an uprising. In September 1945, the Vietnamese went to Haiphong. Ho Chi Minh declared
independence. In October 1946, the French forced the communists out of the south and took over Haiphong in the north. Then the indo–Chinese war

University of Alabama Integration
Schools in southern America had always been segregated and their citizens wanted it to stay like that. Most white people thought it should stay this
way, but the Supreme Court did not. They thought segregation was unconstitutional, shown in the Brown v. Board ofEducation case in 1954
(University...).In that case the Supreme court decided that no schools in America should be segregated, no matter where they were. John F. Kennedy
also felt this way, which he shows by using his executive powers to send troops to allow 2 students to safely integrate the University of Alabama
(University...). The University of Alabama integration was a turning point in the civil rights movement. The University of Alabama integration
occurred on June 11, 1963, in the heat of the civil rights movement. The two students integrated were James A. Hood and Vivian Malone ( The New
York Times). The students walked to the door as George Wallace, the governor of Alabama at the time, stood in front of the entrance to the school to
not let them in. The governor was removed by national guardsmen from Alabama ordered to the school by president John F. Kennedy (University...).

Factors That Influence America's Tilt Towards France Prior...
America's tilt toward France prior to 1954 did influence U.S. policy toward Diem's regime in South Vietnam. America was hopeful that France would
defeat the communist power led by Ho Chi Minh, hopeful in the sense that it would protect America's interest in Indochina. As Bao Dai played the role
of a French puppet through the verbal support of America, the Vietnamese people, displeased with Bao Dai, rose up to fight the French. For that reason,
it appeared that America was simply favoring the French in order to keep communism from spreading while also ensuring future investment in Vietnam
if communism were to fail. Therefore, America takes the role of the French after the French defeat in the battle of Dien Bien Phu. Hence after
continuous failure

Compare And Contrast Photograph And 1954
In the Thomas Hardy poem "The Photograph" the main theme that the speaker is trying to display is power, and pain. While in the Patricia Young
poem "Photograph, 1954" the main theme would be relationships between father and daughter, pain, and the feeling of being trapped. These two poems
to have some major similarities and differences with the use of a photograph as the central image. By close examination you can point out that there are
many similarities but as well some differences between the two poems "The Photograph" and "Photograph, 1954", and how they use the photograph as
the central image, Theses similarities between "The Photograph" and "Photograph, 1954" include their idea to use the photograph as the central image.

Some of the similarities would be how they both display relationships between different people, for the poem "Photograph, 1958" the relationship
would be between the four year old young child and the father. While for "The Photograph" the relationship is between a man and a women. The
relationship's can easily relate to one another because they both are somebody relationship's can easily relate to one another because they both are
somebody who is stronger and is acting violent to the other in the relationship. They use the photograph to represent the relationship between
these people by having you picture the young girl being afraid of her father as he rips the stove out and when the man is burning the picture of a
women to has great power over him. Which brings me to the next thing that these two poems are similar in, they both display power and how one
person has more power over how the other feels. This is displayed when the man is burning the picture in "That Photograph" and at the end he feels
bad about it because he would not want the women burning a picture of him as he did to her. It is also displayed in "Photograph, 1958" by having
the father have more power over how the young girl feels and how everything he does effects how she feels in some way. The main difference
would be how they describe the image to the reader, as well as how the reader would picture that image. These differed in a way that in "The
Photograph" Hardy made you start off with a dark picture by having the first like be "The flame crept up the portrait line by line" (1) making you
think the poem was about someone who wasn't happy and was in a dark place in their life. While in "Photograph, 1958" Young made you start off in

The Cause And Effect Of The 1954 Vietnam War
In the context of the Cold War, the issues in Vietnam became a hot topic in Asia for US, British and French foreign policy. The 1954 crisis saw the
fall of French Indochina as a result of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu after the US–led attempt to protect the deteriorating French position had failed.
France, a colonial power in Vietnam had struggled to remain authoritative in a country fighting for their independence after Ho Chi Minh's Declaration
of Independence following the August Revolution in 1945. We can use political cartoons and images to decipher the differing interpretations of what
historians and commentators thought of the time, to understand the cause and effect of the 1954 crisis, involving the uncertainty of the Geneva
settlement.

The Day Was September 5th 1954
The day was July 5th 1954, a young truck driver from Tupelo Mississippi was sitting in a recording studio in Memphis Tennessee, to his left a man
wielding a guitar named Scotty Moore and to his right the bassist, Bill Black (Littleton, 2014). The studio they were sitting in was owed by a
hugely successful producer named Sam Phillips. Phillips was trying to get a new label called "Sun Records" off the ground, and he had great
insight that it would be with this unknown kid. The three men were recording a single that would later be named "That's All Right", but trying to
get something new out of it, a new type of sound, something the world hadn't heard before and something the world probably wouldn't be ready
for. They worked in the studio for hours trying to figure out a new sound that would be popular and change the face of music. Phillips had almost
given up that night, he called for a break of the session (Littleton, 2014). During that break the three men in the studio started goofing around with
their music, luckily Phillips was listening, and he found that sound that would make this unknown truck driver from Mississippi arguably one of the
most popular artist of all time. The combination of Moore on the guitar and Black on the bass was new, fast paced, but the real change from the
voice, raspy, agile and smooth all at once. It was music altering. Rock N' Roll was born on this night, and this man was dubbed the "creator" of it, that
man's name was, Elvis Presley. "Rock

The Media's Effect on Self-Esteem Essay
Everyone wants to look good; that is a given. What steps must people take in order to look their best? Does it only take a little bit of make up or
maybe a nicer dress shirt? Or does it require missing a few meals a day or purging what had been eaten previously? Society is growing fonder of the
idea that a perfect woman or man is skinny, most of the time skinnier than what is considered healthy. For example, when choosing between a skinny
and a larger woman for an ad about "the perfect body", people watching the commercial could not accept the larger woman as a suitable candidate. That
is just how society is currently. The stronger question, however, is whether pictures of skinny models in the media affects someone's self–esteem, or is

That fact is something people these days need pressed into their brains so they will not be more worried about why they cannot look the way
models do. A model's career is centered on the preservation of his or her outer appearance (Sales, 1 Jan. 2010). There is no need for teens to feel
pressures of a warped body image. They cannot afford a stylist and makeup artist to prepare them for the day and touch them up as they go, nor do
they need one to (Sales, 1 Jan 2010). Even with such help, a model's day is not done without their photographs being airbrushed by computer
artists. Sometimes the models' body shapes are changed (Kowalski, 1 Mar. 2003). Although, it is understandable why teens do feel such pressure.
A study on 3,200 girls in Girlguiding, UK showed that "the most influential role models (said by 95 percent of the girls) were Kate Moss and
Victoria Beckham" (Bawdon, 1 Oct. 2007). Both women are very skinny and successful as far as the modeling world is concerned. Unfortunately,
"the fashion world is numb, looking at models only as clothes hangers and failing to see if they are healthy of not" (Bawdon, 1 Oct. 2007). Boys
and girls struggling with their growing bodies could not come to understand that these men and women models are products of years of dieting,
exercise binging, and possible eating disorders to fix what the modeling world does not like about the way the models look. People of all ages have at

Brown V Board Of Education 1954
Brown v. Board of Education is a landmark case that was decided on by the U.S. Supreme Court on May 17, 1954. The decision changed the way
black citizens were to be treated by eliminating segregation of students into all white and all black schools (Brown v. Board of Education, 1954).
Before this ruling, Plessy v. Ferguson allowed for segregation stating it was alright as long as the students were treated equally (Plessy v. Ferguson,
1896). The problem with this, is that they were not. Black students were forced to ride buses to schools that were far away from where they lived and
lacked funds for needed supplies to give a quality education. This demonstrated that while separate, the schools and the education being given, were not

The Supreme Court's 1954 Brown V. Board Of Education
The Supreme Court's 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending de jure segregation was a watershed moment in American history. The hope
was that by striking down state laws that maintained racially segregated public schools, America would embark on a new course leading to integrated
public schools. The Court recognized the critical role that public schools play in shaping American culture and promoting the well–being of the nation.
In addition to ensuring Constitutional rights to equal protection under the law, the Brown decision paved a path for students to receive educational
services in integrated learning environments that reflect the diversity of American society. In the immediate aftermath of the Brown decision, states

Narrative Analysis Of Rear Window By Alfred Hitchcock
Stephanie Bittar
Narrative Analysis Paper
MCS 273 Rear Window (1955) Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film, Rear Window, explores many dimensions in cinematography. The phenomenal film is
well known for proclaiming its voyeurism issues that goes on in today's society. Even though voyeurism is an act that should not be done, this film
portrays it in an affirmative way. Rear Window introduces primary structural components in the first act which sets the mood for the audience to interact
with J.B. Jefferies in a way as it is the audiences duty to help him solve the mystery on whether Thorwald murdered his wife or not. The opening
images of Rear Window introduces the audience to J.B. Jefferies apartment with the window curtains rising. The camera is facing outside the
window which reveals the small courtyard. After the camera gives the audience a tour of the courtyard, it then shows us Jeff sleeping on his wheel
chair. From this, the audience should be able to perceive there is no privacy at all for the neighbors. What one does, everyone is able to see (only if
they are observing). The music in the beginning sets the mood, the audience should feel safe and mellow as if nothing bad is going to happen. There is
not one suspicion which tells the audience there will be a murder case throughout this film. With that in mind, the theme is portrayed through Jeff's
perspective from his observation of the neighbors. He observes the love life of his neighbors while he is questioning his own

The Vietnam War 1954-1975
The Vietnam War of 1954– 1975 was the longest and one of the most unsuccessful wars in U.S history. It took place in countries such as South
Vietnam, North Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The war was a huge blow to the United States' pride and military, so much that there were lotteries for
soldiers. There were five presidents in office during the war, but the main presidents that had a big impact on being involved were Dwight Eisenhower,
Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. Although the objectives of the U.S being involved were good intentioned, there are many reasons to support
that it was an Unjustifiable war due to the casualties. While looking at present information about the war, it was not needed for America to step into the

French Counterinsurgency Failures in the Algerian War of...
In recent years, it has become fashionable in the minds of some to belittle France. A rather boorish joke follows along the lines of arguing that the
French have big heads only in order to accommodate their big mouths. This colloquial anecdote can be used to demonstrate that outsiders often view
the behavior and policy of French government with contempt at their perceived arrogance. An example can be found in the case of Algeria's
decolonization. The failures and arrogance of the French allowed insurgents to emerge the victors of the Algerian War of 1954–1962. To understand
why this occurred, it is imperative to examine how French military arrogance, political arrogance, and a failure to use military and political capabilities

In attempting to justify the use of torture, military leaders posited that the unconventional style of war being waged did not merit following rules of
conventional war, that it was a controlled and limited way to quickly gain intelligence of tactical value, and it came to pass that "[t]he ideological and
spiritual nature of the conflict was internalized by many in the French Army and became one justification for torture," (DiMarco 2006, 70–71.)
Regardless of justification, "failure to comply with moral and legal constrictions... severely undermined French efforts and contributed to their loss
despite several significant military victories." (Counterinsurgency Field Manual 2006, 252) It is obvious that with such improper conduct – such as the
counterinsurgency tactics used and torture of captured enemy personnel – the demonstrated arrogance of the French military contributed to its eventual
defeat by emboldening its opposition. Less tangible a form of failure than military arrogance, the political arrogance of leaders among both the pied
noir and metropolitan France contributed to the Algerian victory. Policymakers were, like military leaders, interested in preventing another incident as
embarrassing as Dien Bien Phu. However, the long, pronounced history of division between natives and Europeans, as described by Alistair Horne,
made difficult any hope of reconciliation: "The Muslim Algerian and pied noir were separated by

Sermon At The Word Of Faith Christian Church Delivered By...
On Tuesday, November 26, I critically listened to a sermon at The Word of Faith Christian Church delivered by Pastor Julius Stephens. It was a
regular Tuesday bible study with about eight people. Pastor Stephens 's topic for the day was everybody has a purpose. In this paper, I will critique
Pastor Stephens 's sermon based on its introduction, body, delivery, conclusion and finally my overall reaction to his speech. The reason forthe speaker
's sermon was to ensure his audience realizes their worth.
Pastor Stephens speech introduction started with an attention–getting device and then followed with a Short anecdote which he used to further explain
his topic. His attention–getting device was the quotation "If you don 't know the purpose of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To enable better understanding Pastor Stephens 's maintained good volume in speaking marking sure we didn 't have to strain to hear him. He also
made the sermon very interactive asking a lot of question and asked the views of his audience on an issue in order to engage them. He maintained
good eye contact and didn 't use a lot of hand gestures so he didn 't distract his audience from the topic. He used spoke audaciously, he took risks in
saying things that may or may not hurt people 's feelings in order to pass his point effectively. The speaker also made use of transition words this made
his sermon coherent.
The body of the sermon was mostly centralized on the purpose of each and every one of us in the church, the saying everything happens for a reason
and his view on it. He stated that every person in the church has a particular purpose. He used the example of a human 's body stating that every part
of the body has particular purposes. He went further to say in the body of Christ some of us maybe the legs, the eyes, the mouth, and the eyes of the
church.
He said every one of us has a purpose in the church as every part of our body has a particular task to perform. He said those of us who are evangelist
are the mouth of the church; he said those of us who are givers are the hands of the church, and those of us who have the money to sponsor the
movement of the gospel around the world are the feet. This example made me and other audience member understand our

There were many heroes in this civil rights movement many of whom helped pave the way for Brown v Board of Education. On July 26, 1948
president Harry S. Truman singed an executive order numbered 9981 this executive order states "It is essential that there be maintained in the armed
services of the United States the highest standards of democracy, with equality of treatment and opportunity for all those who serve in our country's
defense" (http://www.trumanlibrary.org/9981a.htm: executive order 9981 In text format). Executive order 9981 slowed the amount of segregation in
the armed forces. One of my personal favorite civil rights heroes happens to be the famous attorney that argued for the NAACP in the case of Brown
v Board of Education, before becoming a Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall won 27 of the 32 of the court cases that he tried before the United
States Supreme Court. Because of Thurgood Marshall's declamatory arguing skills Thurgood Marshall was designate the nickname of "the Wrathful

After Thurgood Marshall's Ground breaking win with the Supreme Court in the case of Brown v Board of Education it was still very difficult for
minorities to be able to safely attend many of the of the southern with schools in the United States of America. For example the state of Virginia resisted

King Kong Vs. Godzilla
Japan, 1954. As the audience finish trickling into their seats, the projector starts to run showing each individual film slide at 24 frames per second.
The theater begins to dim. Within the first few minutes of the film, a ship mysteriously disappears making the audience wonder what is to come.
Eventually, a vivid outline of what seems to be a tiny lizard from a distance proves to grow bigger and bigger as it gets closer to the city. It begins to
wreak havoc among the citizens, destroying everything and anything that it comes into contact. From this moment on, the moviegoers know that this
monster, Godzilla, is a force to be reckoned with. Decades later, Godzilla still seems to be a popular monster figure that constantly is reimagined in
many different forms battling other monstrous characters: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
(1994). As of today, 29 different Godzilla movies have been produced with the most recent being the 2016 resurgence Shin Godzilla. Due to the
significant impact the Godzilla franchise was able to produce in the eyes of the audience, each rendition was able to be successful with its own
cinema twist; however, as a monster, the qualities that make Godzilla the monster we know and love has not changed from the original 1954 film to
the most recent 2016 release. Unlike most monsters on the big screen, the idea of Godzilla sprouted from the fear of recent historical events in Japan.

After the end of World War II the United States embarked on years of an uneasy alliance with Italy. The recoveringItalian Fascist government was

This created an extremely volatile political environment Italy which consisted of a virtual plethora of viable political parties including the dominant
United States backed and funded Christian Democrats and the Partitio Communista Italiano also known as the PCI. There was a strong conflict of
interest that arose between the formal antifascist constitution and the material one imposed being imposed on them by the escalating international
situation. On one side there was the pro–Western stance of the main Italian governing party, the Christian Democrats and on the other side they were
faced with the PCI's dependency on the Soviet Union, these issues were soon to become the major boiling points of the Italian republic. The PCI's
alliance with the Soviet Union provided them with resources much need by the PCI and much maligned by the United States as stated in this dispatch
from the Director of Western European Affairs in Feb. of 1952, "The Communist Party apparently has unlimited funds to finance its activities and is

Brown V. Board Of Education Decision In 1954
The events that people remember the most are events that have oppressed an outside group. People become even more intrigued when the oppressed
group starts to earn more freedom. When the oppressed group starts to earn more freedom, then the status quo begins to change. The dominant group
does not want to share their freedoms with everyone and they try their best to make the lives of the oppressed group horrific. The Brown v. Board of
Education decision in 1954 was the single most important event in American history. The Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954 revealed that
White Supremacy existed in U.S. "The debates preceding the submission of the Fourteenth Amendment clearly show that there was no intent that it
should affect the systems of education maintained by the states". (The Southern Manifesto) The Southern members of the U.S Congress who did not
fully agree on the supreme courts decision put the blame on the system for abusing its power. The Southern members' blaming the system hides the
fact that their reasons for disagreeing are because of their racist views. "We pledge ourselves to use all lawful means to bring about a reversal of this
decision which is contrary to the Constitution and to prevent the use of force in its implementation". (The Southern... Show more content on

its' reasoning was to eliminate differing tax treatment among ministers. Also, critics believe that this comment ignores a significant tax exemption that

Rear Window ( 1954 ) And Stella Dallas
The classic films, Rear Window (1954) and Stella Dallas (1937), both tell different stories involving women in the classic caregiver role. However,
both movies do this in different ways for each female character and the reactions given by both society and their male counterpart within t that role
also differs greatly in each film. While in both films women are depicting in the classic caregiving, beauty obsessed, somehow nagging sense as greatly
stereotypes within the film world, the status of each woman differs leading to a different cause and effect. The film makers utilize different filming
techniques to convey their messages and evoke different reactions and emotions from their audience. I will be comparing and contrasting Stella Dallas
to Rear Window in order to examine how each film both formally and narratively constructs the female identity, while making note on class andgender
differences. In the first film Rear Window, we follow a man by the name of L.B. "Jeff" Jefferies, who is currently stuck at home nursing a broken
leg. In order to kill time Jeff watches his neighbors from his wheelchair with a pair of binoculars at the rear window of his place. While watching
these neighbors Jeff develops several insights to his neighbors ranging from "Miss Torso" a beautiful ballet dancer who is throughout the film shown
in a scantily clad, sexual manner to the lonely, depressed woman who attempts a suicide at one point in the movie. The driving point of the film comes

The Influence Of Deception In Raven Black
Deception is the action of betraying and letting someone down. Sometimes individuals are so caught up in the moment that they do not think about the
consequences of their actions. In the novel Raven Black, deception is shown throughout the story by a murder, mystery of a missing girl, and a kidnap.
The thriller Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves, takes place during the dark cold winter in January, in theShetland Islands. In the novel, every character
reveals a different mindset by their actions and thoughts. In the article, Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives, Maria
Popova talks about how every individual has a different mindset. Someone with a fixed mindset assumes that they cannot change for the better and
their intelligence or qualities are fixed traits. On the contrary, someone with a growth mindset enjoys a challenge, they believe they can learn from
their mistakes and most importantly they know there is always room for improvement. In Raven Black, Inspector Jimmy Perez, Magnus Tait and Sally
Henry show whether they have a fixed or growth mindset, which result in how they act and think throughout the novel. Inspector Jimmy Perez is a
diligent and clever detective who does not settle for the first clue he notices in an investigation. In the novel Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves Inspector
Perez shows he has a growth mindset, by having an open mind and not blaming Magnus Tait for themurder of Catherine Ross. He takes into

The Civil Rights Movement From 1954 To 1968 Essay

  • 1. The Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1968 Essay It was a hard time, and for many black persons, it seemed as if all the broken promises of Reconstruction were epitomized in the actions of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ever since the 1870's, the Court had been eviscerating the congressional legislation and constitutional amendments that had been established at the height of Reconstruction to protect some of the basic citizenship rights of black people. 1954 was a new time and more than tears and words were needed. Just about everyone that was black and alive at the time realized that the long, hard struggles, led by the NAACP, had forced the Supreme Court to take a major stand on the side of justice in the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision. "We... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin Luther King Jr. becomes leader of the 12–ВЅ month boycott. In November of 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court rules the Montgomery's segregated bus system is unconstitutional. Although the Brown ruling of 1954 was a unanimous decision, the American public's reactions to it varied greatly. In the North, where segregated schooling was not a matter of public policy, blacks viewed the decision as a victory for equality. Most whites in Northern states felt that the decision had little meaning for them. In the South, however, many whites viewed the Court's decision as an intrusion of the federal government into their way of life. Southerner's pointed out that the North, too, was segregated. Black people in the South were profoundly affected by the court decision. Many felt for the first time that the government might be on their side, and that it might now be possible to throw off years of oppression. But a year passed before the Court delivered its instructions on just how school desegregation was to be implemented. When the Court's directions in what has to be known as Brown II were summarized in the phrase "with all deliberate speed," many black people were disappointed and felt that the government would not support desegregation. In 1957, the Little Rock School Board decides to admit nine black students to its Central High School. The Governor calls out the National Guard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Segregation Education 1954 In 1954, Brown v. Board of Education Topeka changed history by banning segregated schools. Though schools themselves may not be segregated, inside the schools, segregation is still alive. This academic gap may start as young as the age of two. Leading there to be a possible link to a person's race and the quality of an education. As I mentioned in the beginning the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education Topeka ended the segregation of schools. The integration of schools of course had not only achieved equality of education between white and black children but also came with a plethora of other benefits. According to the American Psychological Association, "higher levels of racial integration are associated with elevated achievement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lap At Last 1954-1975 Analysis Doc–Lap at Last 1954–1975 The Americans cringed at the thought of a Communist Vietnam, and picked up where the French left off. A peace accord temporarily divided Vietnam in half, promising elections for the whole country by 1956. With Ho in full control of the North, the Americans backed a French–educated anti–Communist named Ngo Dinh Diem in the South. As President, Diem managed to alienate everyone, arresting thousands of dissidents and condemning scores to death. In 1956, he was accused of blocking the elections, adding fuel to a growing brushfire of rebellion. The U.S. responded by pumping money into Diem's failed regime and sending military "advisers," many of whom were unofficially engaged in combat. Then, on August 2, 1964, reports reached Washington alleging that three North Vietnamese boats had attacked the U.S.S. Maddox on patrol inVietnam 's Tonkin Gulf. The... More than 80,000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops stormed major cities and even the U.S. Embassy in Saigon. U.S. troops turned back the so–called Tet Offensive. But the American people, tiring of an expensive and seemingly fruitless conflict, turned against the war. President Richard M. Nixon took office in 1969 amid a rising tide of anti war sentiment. He agreed to begin pulling out of Vietnam. It took four more years of fighting and thousands more casualties, but in March 1973, the last U.S. troops withdrew. Two years later, on April 30, 1975, columns of North Vietnamese soldiers entered Saigon, meeting little resistance from the demoralized South Vietnamese army. The last American officials fought their way onto any aircraft available and left Vietnam to the Communists. Ho Chi Minh, who had died in 1969, did not live to see the moment. Board of Education (1954) This case dealt with racial segregation in a public school which was the norm across America in the early 1950's. All schools in a given district were in fact supposed to be equal, however, most black schools were far inferior to white schools. This case was based on a black third grader by the name of Linda Brown in Topeka, Kansas, having to walk a mile through a railroad switchyard to get to her black elementary school even though a white elementary school was only seven blocks away from her home. Oliver Brown, Linda's father, tried to enroll her in the white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined with other cases that challenged school segregation in other states. The Supreme Court first heard the case on December 9, 1952 but failed to reach a decision so they reargued the case on December 7, 1953. The Supreme Court struck down the "separate but equal" doctrine of Plessy for public education and ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of schools across America. Education is possibly the most important function of state and local governments today. Attendance laws and the amount of money spent of our education system both demonstrate the recognition of the importance placed on education in our society. Education is required in the performance of the most basic public responsibilities which includes the service in our armed forces. A good education is the foundation of good citizenship and helps children from every walk of life understand cultural values and help him or her to adjust normally to their ever changing environment. It is very doubtful that any child today may reasonably be expected to succeed in every aspect of life is they are denied the opportunity of an education which is offered equally to every child. Education is the opportunity offered to all and is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms. "Brown v. He won support of many of the people. When Gandhi returned to South Africa at the end of 1909 he started to create a "a sort of co–operate commonwealth". This is where citizens would be trained to live a normal life in harmony with one another. On November 6, 1913 thousands of people marched with Gandhi twenty–one miles into Transvaal. • 11. My Greatest Moment In School One of the greatest moments happened when I was in the eighth grade. It was when I started wearing the hijab for sure and I lost a lot of my friends. I felt really lonely and I started sitting by myself during lunch for the first time ever. I stopped getting invited to birthday parties and whatnot. One day during my English class two of my friends that weren't talking to me at the time came up to me and told me they supported my decision. They explained to me how hard it was for them because they've never seen me with the hijab, but they also wanted to try it because it was new to them. My English teacher, Mrs. Fernald overheard us talking and said: "why don't you bring us hijabs tomorrow, we'll wear it with you". I was really excited and was so happy that I started getting teary simple because I felt good to know that I wasn't alone. The next day I brought them hijabs and put it on for them and we took a picture together. That picture still means the world to me. I started wearing the hijab because I felt like it was the right thing to do, but it was a hard transition. My friends kept telling me to take it off and kept asking if I was having a bad hair day. It was hard for me to explain it to them because they kept asking why now? It was hard to explain it to them in general. That moment showed me that my hijab wasn't stopping me from doing anything and that people would support me if I showed them that my hijab didn't change who I am. Is Survival Selfish By Lane Wallace Summary A close review of the literature reveals that your state of mind during a matter of life or death situation will influence the outcome of your survival. In the argument Is Survival Selfish by Lane Wallace, I woman that had been in an airliner that crashed on landing,"(realized) that the people around her were too paralyzed to react (in the situation), (so) she took direct action...(Wallace 318). This example showed that your state of mind in a life or death situation will influence your outcome because the woman had to understand the situation that she was in and acknowledge that she had to get out of the plane. Through her observations, there was nothing that she could do to help the other passengers out of the plane because they were too paralyzed to react. This influenced her outcome because if she hadn't looked out for herself than she would have had the same fate as most of the passengers in the crashed plane. Another example that your state of mind during a matter of life or death situation will influence your outcome is in the speech "Truth at all Cost", by Marie Colvin. Truth at all cost is about an author sharing her story as being a war correspondent. In Marie's speech, she says, "journalist covering combat, shoulder great responsibilities, ...(and sometimes) they pay the ultimate price...(Colvin 85)." Tenants were vulnerable to exploitative landlords using the end of the contractual term to demand greatly increased rents for a renewal lease or to take on, without compensation, goodwill built up or improvements made by the tenant. On this occasion, we have identified some features which experience has shown could benefit from change." Following the report, the Commission recommended several reforms and additions to the Act. Sometimes it is so slow in coming that those who stand to gain from such change decide to help expedite the process of political decision–making. African Americans in the US, especially in the south were still at the receiving end of racial injustice. A "separate but equal" policy was enforced in 1886–97 when the Supreme Court ruled that segregation was not discrimination. Segregation was seen as a process that severely limited the opportunities of black people. In 1954 the "Separate but Equal" policy took a major hit in the Brown v. Board of Education Case of 1954. The Day Was September 5th 1954 The day was July 5th 1954, a young truck driver from Tupelo Mississippi was sitting in a recording studio in Memphis Tennessee, to his left a man wielding a guitar named Scotty Moore and to his right the bassist, Bill Black (Littleton, 2014). The studio they were sitting in was owed by a hugely successful producer named Sam Phillips. Society is growing fonder of the idea that a perfect woman or man is skinny, most of the time skinnier than what is considered healthy. For example, when choosing between a skinny and a larger woman for an ad about "the perfect body", people watching the commercial could not accept the larger woman as a suitable candidate. Even with such help, a model's day is not done without their photographs being airbrushed by computer artists. Sometimes the models' body shapes are changed (Kowalski, 1 Mar. 2003). The phenomenal film is well known for proclaiming its voyeurism issues that goes on in today's society. Even though voyeurism is an act that should not be done, this film portrays it in an affirmative way. Rear Window introduces primary structural components in the first act which sets the mood for the audience to interact with J.B. The music in the beginning sets the mood, the audience should feel safe and mellow as if nothing bad is going to happen. There is not one suspicion which tells the audience there will be a murder case throughout this film.
