Youth Against HIV AIDS Project to explore ways in which they can develop campaigns

enhance HIV/AIDS literacy amongst key target groups, especially youth; “engage the
unengaged”; overcome obstacles and strengthen the reach and impact of current
prevention and treatment services.
This campaign development workshop builds on the Stakeholder and Youth Volunteer
Network activities to date; in particular the youth behavioural surveys.
The workshop will serve to help each of the cities finalise campaign plans and will utilize
data collected by each city prior to the meeting see campaign development
planning questions below. The three day workshop will be include sessions on
communications as a determinant of health, formative communication research, issue
framing, an advocacy framework , practical campaign planning exercises, issues
related to social marketing, working with media, media advocacy, and campaign
evaluation. There will be both lectures, group work and discussion sessions.
Workshop Objectives
The overall aim of the project is to reduce the disease burden related to HIV/AIDS
amongst youth in participating cities.
The key objective of the workshop is to assist each city stakeholder team to agree and
finalise plans for a youth focused HIV/AIDS communication campaign that will raise
awareness and stimulate healthy behaviors, choices and policies.
As a secondary benefit of this process the workshop aims to enhance participants’
capacities in health communications, communication related research, advocacy,
social marketing as well as working with media.
It is further anticipated that the skills developed for this specific project should be
generalisable to other key public health communication challenges.

Each city is asked to carry out a series of tasks that is aimed at collecting data needed
for effective campaign planning. Reach city will customize their own campaign plans
aimed at enhancing HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment information, education and

In this course, you are expected to write a 6–10-page research paper, outlining a communications
outreach campaign. The paper will also form the foundation for your voiceover PowerPoint
presentation, which is due in Module 7.
You may select one of two options to complete your paper:
Option 1
Think about the health care organization you work in, or an organization in your community with which
you are familiar. Assume that you are a mid-level manager and want to implement an outreach
campaign to target a particular group that is not accessing your services. You want to develop a
communications plan to create awareness of and cultivate buy-in for the service. An example might be
making hospice services available to the Native American community. You will need to present this plan
before your Board of Directors for approval. The fiscal climate is challenging, so you will need to use
available data to develop an evidence-based persuasive paper.
In your paper, you must address the following areas:
Describe the organization, including services provided and service region.
Describe for the board of directors the target group you want to bring in. If you are targeting a
particular service or product for the group, describe that as well.
Include demographic data for the region served by the organization, with particular focus on
current numbers and projected increases for certain cultural groups, if any. You may look at
many facets of culture here, including but not limited to ethnicity, race, age, socioeconomic
status, or gender. This data can be found on your state’s health department website.
Identify current communication technologies that you plan to use for this target group, and
explain your choices. If you cannot find a technology that is culturally or environmentally

Given the nowadays tendencies, the new field for social research emerged. According to the Code of Ethics for social workers, when evaluating or conducting research with the use of any technologies they should receive informed consent of the participants and ensure their confidentiality. It is essential to secure safety and prevent any harm or damage to participants` physical and mental health (NASW Code of Ethics, 2017). Another change of research environment pertains to multicultural and multiethnic societies. In these terms, the key principle for social workers should be social justice, as it encompasses social welfare for everyone (Chukwu, 2015). Think about the health care organization you work in, or an organization in your community with which
you are familiar. Assume that you are a mid-level manager and want to implement an outreach
campaign to target a particular group that is not accessing your services. You want to develop a

before your Board of Directors for approval. The fiscal climate is challenging, so you will need to use

In your paper, you must address the following areas:

Describe for the board of directors the target group you want to bring in. If you are targeting a

The management-oriented methodology helps to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of social institutions and the qualitative-anthropological connects the historical and modern observations of changes within the society.
Given the nowadays tendencies, the new field for social research emerged. These are social networks, where users leave personal information, interact with each other and comment on different political, economic or cultural events. According to the Code of Ethics for social workers, when evaluating or conducting research with the use of any technologies they should receive informed consent of the participants and ensure their confidentiality. It is essential to secure safety and prevent any harm or damage to participants` physical and mental health (NASW Code of Ethics, 2017). Another change of research environment pertains to multicultural and multiethnic societies. In these terms, the key principle for social workers should be social justice, as it encompasses social welfare for everyone (Chukwu, 2015). They should pay more attention to cultural and ethnic differences and include these insights to their researches and evaluations. “Social workers can also use research for policy reform efforts by critically examining legal and public discourse and the extent to which they comply with human rights principles” (Maschi, Youdin, Sutfin & Simpson, 2012). Currently, social workers act as the main promoters and champions of human rights and social justice.
In order to be able to provide highly qualified research or evaluation, the skills should feature transferability. It means that social practitioners should able to explain how their activity is informed by their knowledge base and being able to apply their knowledge and skills to new situations through appraising what is general and what is particular in each situation (Trevithick, 2000). The theory and practice should be effectively combined. Moreover, the special approach to the terminology should be used. It means changing terms of patient, case or subject to a client, person or consumer. Similarly, it is better to use an assessment or evaluation than diagnosis, study or examination (Cournoyer, 2017). Standard normal distribution has a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. The standard deviation is simply how spread out the numbers are so the further the data point is from the mean, the less likely it is to occur. The characteristics of standard normal distribution is that it is symmetrical around its center and mirrors on the right and left side. There is also one mode (peak) of the curve. The tails of the curve never touch the x axis. I think that education would follow normal distribution in this example because if HR pulls the files and plot employees education, it'll fall within standard deviation. The other categories would be too spaced out because they have too much of a wide range to plot and fall within normal distribution. The other categories would look more like a scatter plot.

Explain why this tool will be an effective means of communication for the chosen health topic with the targeted population. Discuss legal and ethical standards and policies that must be considered in developing the media campaign and how these apply to your population at risk.
