Q.2:Why different sitting arrangement in the training room is
essential? Give your psychologicalperspectives.
Training rooms are much more than spaces where employees come to sit and learn –
they’re dynamic environments where people meet, learn, share ideas and collaborate.
When designing a space to accommodate such a wide range of activities, it can be hard
to decide which aspect of the design should take priority.
Having an environment that encourages the process of learning and interaction among
trainers and trainees is very crucial to the success of training. A layout of the training
room or the seating arrangement plays an important role in making both trainers and
trainees feel comfortable.
Below are a few layouts and seating arrangements that are frequently used for training:
Theatre layout
The theatre layout is considered as the simplest style, it is similar to the seating concept
found in a cinema or a theatre. The chairs are aligned in straight rows. This kind of
arrangement is usually used for official business’ launches, training, and seminar. The
advantage of this kind of setting is that all of the seats are facing the front and the
training room can be used up to its maximum capacity. In this kind of layout, there is a
need to give an extra importance to aisles and ensure that trainees do not have a
problem in access to the seating area.
Pros:
All of the seats are facing forwards towards the front of the function room.
Maximum seated capacity is achieved for the function room.
Cons:
The audience is closed in, needing to push past other audience members to
enter/exit the seating area.
Aisles are required to ensure sufficient access to seating area.
There is no provision for note taking or consumption of plated food and
beverage.
Audience interaction is hindered as audience members don't face each other.
U-shape layout
As the name suggests, the layout for this particular arrangement is in the shape of the
letter U. In this layout, chairs and tables are set in an open-ended shape and trainees

will be facing inwards. This layout is frequently used for workshops, conferences and
meetings. The advantage of this layout is that audience can focus on presentation area
easily and they are able to have an open discussion since they are facing one another.
This layout enables the trainer to interact with each trainee individually, giving a
maximum attention as for how it should.
Pros:
The open end allows for a focal point or presentation area.
Allows presenter to approach and engage with each audience members.
Audience interaction is enhanced, with audience members facing each other.
Cons:
Inefficient use of floor space, with seating capacity reduced.
A large proportion of the audiences are seated side-on to the presentation area.
Boardroom layout
This layout is similar to the U-shaped or Hollow Square layout but only that it is
smaller in size and the audience will be facing inwards. This layout is normally used in
the small meeting, team briefing, team training, even in one on one interview and small
presentations.
Horse Shoe
This style is very similar to U Shape; however there are no tables, only chairs arranged
in an open ended configuration with the audience facing inwards.
Pros:
The open end provides a focal point and allows for a presentation area.
Allows presenter to approach and engage with each audience member.
Cons:
Inefficient use of floor space, with seating capacity reduced.
Aisles are required to ensure sufficient access and egress to seating area.
There is no provision for note taking or consumption of plated food and
beverage.
In conclusion we can say, the success of Training, will not only depend on the
preparation that trainer take, but also the set-up and style of the training room.
