2. Preface
In the succeeding pages you will get to know all the important details
about SAE Collegiate Club: ITM University. The texts will give you an
insight of how we work and what we are working for. Also in the next
few pages we have mentioned our achievements so far.
The main topic of the proposal i.e. our requirement for a junkyard is
followed by these topics. The requirement for a junkyard arose after
the club’s reach was broadened. We have been actively participating
in number of national events since our formation. Recently we
performed in a national level event ‘ECO-KART 2014’ and fabricated a
vehicle in the campus itself. Due to lack of a proper place for work we
faced lots of problems. This year our club is full of experience and
enthusiasm. We are participating in four different events in this
season and thus a proper place for work is very much essential.
So for the rest part of proposal our main focus would be centred on
plan of the place of work we will call it a Junkyard, its components,
facilities required and related discussions.

4. Who we are?
SAE Collegiate club of ITM University is a student organized and
maintained club. We are associated with SAEINDIA which is an
affiliate society of SAE International registered in India as an Indian
nonprofit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the
advancement of mobility industry in India. SAE or Society of
Automotive Engineering was found in early 1900s in the USA as a
society working for technical advancement in field of automobile. The
prominent names associated with this club are Henry Ford, Wright
Brothers etc. SAEINDIA is India's leading resource for mobility
technology. As an individual member driven society of mobility
practitioners the ownership of SAEINDIA wrests with its members
who are Individuals from the mobility community, which includes
Engineers Executives from Industry, Government Officials, Academics
and Students.
We have been officially registered with SAEINDIA and are eligible to
participate in all the premier events organized by it. The major events
organized by SAEINDIA is Formula SAE or Supra, BAJA, EFFICYCLE etc.
All these events are sponsored by giants of automobile industry in the
country. Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti-Suzuki, TVS, Force Motors,
ARAI, ANSYSS etc. are to name a few.
5. What we intend to do?
Working under the motto of “We believe in ownership rather than
leadership.”
We started this club with an idea of inculcating a technical
environment in this campus, an environment in which every
automobile enthusiast find its place. As a student organised club we
focus on knowledge enhancement of each and every member of the
club. Being a member of the club, you become a member of
professional society SAEINDIA, from which you get to know about
the latest trends in automotive industry. One can access digital
library, research papers and other relevant texts from society’s
knowledge source.
Apart from these resources the major area of interest for a member
is different events organised by SAEINDIA. The major events
organised by the society are BAJA, SUPRA, EFFICYCLE and TECHNICAL
PAPER PRESENTATION. First three of which gathers the most
attention by any student member. Here a team has to design,
optimise and self-fabricate a vehicle type with given parameters. The
designs and reports are analysed by jury from automobile industry.
Winners are rewarded with prize money as well as deserving
candidates gets placed in certain core firms. These events tests your
technical skills as well as your managerial skills thus making you an
engineer and entrepreneur at the same time.
6. We always want every member to possess such skills and are
tirelessly working in this direction. Because we believe that,
members benefit will benefit the club and in turn it will benefit the
institution. We have been constantly trying to broad our reach. We
are participating in number of events and are representing our
University there. From our first success i.e. ECOKART-2014 we have
already made an impact of our University’s name in the event. In this
season we are sending four teams from university in different
events. We are very much confident about their success. Their
success would mark our University as a centre of excellence on the
national map. With our achievements core companies could get
attracted to our campus for placement drive.
Also as a responsible citizen, we intend to use whatever knowledge
we gather, for betterment of society. Developing hybrid vehicles to
less waste producing production process is on our working list.
These are the most basic things we have in our pipe line, with
institution’s support we believe we could get through all of them.
7. What we have done so far?
Since last two years we have been working really hard to meet our
goals and somehow we were successful in doing that. In the first year
things were not easy going and we did faced some problems. But
gradually we worked on and organised ourselves as a fully functional
club. Now we have a total of 76 members selected through a
selection procedure. The club’s working is maintained by its core
members who are student member also selected through a proper
selection procedure.
As an automobile enthusiasts club our first success came from ECO-
KART 2014. The event was organised by SAE Collegiate club of
Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida. The event’s demand was
fabrication of an electric go-kart. We formed a team of ten people
again selected though a proper selection procedure who worked for
the event. Our guys worked day and night and performed up to its
best abilities at the virtual round. We cleared the Virtual round
successfully which qualified us for the dynamic round. We were to
present our vehicle’s design and other document related to project
plan. We fought hard and secured 12th rank and were ahead of big
shots like VIT, Thapar, L.P.U, KIIT, Jamia Milia, and NIT-Jaipur.
8. Also we knew that only sending 10 or 20 people to certain event is
not going to help all the members of the club. So we organised an
inter-college quiz competition inspired by Mahindra AUTO-
QUOTIENT, which was based on general knowledge of automotive
world.
The quiz competition organised was under the name of AUTO-QUIZ
VERSION 1.1. Students from different colleges such as RJIT, MALWA,
ITM Universe and ITM University participated in the quiz. The prize
money set for the quiz was the highest for any event organised so far
by students in ITM University. The quiz enhanced all the participant’s
automotive knowledge. Also each and every participants were given
a participation certificate from the club.
Apart from these things we have organised a seminar on “Working
and principles of Brakes” from which members got an in-depth
knowledge of working of braking systems. Also all the members were
provided with different resources related to automobile technology
to enhance their automotive knowledge.
9. What we need from institution?
We have got constant support from institution for whatever we have
done so far and we are very thankful for that. We always expect this
generous support from the institution, this thing keeps our
motivation strong and high.
Now in order to maintain the working of club and associated teams
going for different events we need certain things. For any
organisation, be it small or big, proper functioning requires an
infrastructure. So we too need a proper place or infrastructure for
our club. The intricacies of the plan is discussed in next section.
Other than a place, we have felt the requirement of an exclusive
notice board for the club where we can display important notices
and other relevant texts. Also for teams participating in different
events requires different machine tools. From our past experience in
ECO-KART 2014, we came to the conclusion that we need a MIG
welding setup. So these are other issues which needs consideration.
But for the time being we are focussed on getting a proper place for
our work. We are calling it a JUNKYARD. This place would be a
paradise for every auto maniac in the campus and a landmark for
technical excellence in ITM University.
10. Junkyard Plan
According to our proposed plan the dimensions and equipment
required for the junkyard are as under:
20 feet
12.5 feet
9 feet
8 feet
27.5 feet
11. Requirements for junkyard:
Table-chair set.
Workshop table with Bench wise.
A high configuration personal computer with internet
connection.
Different views of junkyard plan:
It’s a humble request from our side that please understand our need and take
necessary measures so that we get what is required for us at the earliest
possible. We shall be highly thankful for this.
