The survey of nearly 149,000 adults in 142 countries found that majorities of both women and men worldwide prefer that women work in paid jobs rather than stay at home. Most women and men also think it is acceptable for women to work outside the home. However, balancing work and family responsibilities is seen as one of the biggest challenges faced by working women. While women and men generally agree on the top challenges, these challenges differ depending on the level of development and circumstances in each region and country.
