Pre production began in April 2011 with Robert Richardson announced as the cinematographer In the same
month it was reported that filming locations would include Pinewood studios and London, England. Also in
April, Mireille Enos was cast as Gerry Lane's wife and mother of their two children. In June 2011, James
Badge Dale entered negotiations to join the film as an American soldier who tries to alert authorities that
the zombie threat is real. It was also reported that filming would begin in Malta in July 2011 and would
encompass Valletta and The Three Cities . A few days later Matthew Fox and Ed Harris entered talks while
Julia Levy-Boeken was set to join the film. It was also reported that filming would also take place in Glasgow,
Scotland in August 2011. Glasgow would double as Philadelphia, "with false shop fronts being constructed
and American cars on the roads.
This pre production method could have been more organized as they kept wanting and changing location
which will have an effect on the production as it can delay time, making sure that the location is planned
before is more effective as it can give more time to focus on other stuff required also to make the film
successful.

PRE PRODUCTION
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGb6E4146mQ
Requirements and sources of finance for
the products
190 million USD was the budget that World War Z had to produce the overall production and making of the film
World War Z. 190million compared to other films which have a lower budget so this meant that World War Z had
more potential and a lot of higher expectations due to the fact that it spent more and more money on the film so
the outcome will be expected to be at high quality and a big seller.
Finance is important in making a film because the budget can determine what the film will be and how it will done
leading to it to being successful or not. Looking at the budget that World War Z had it could afford the best props,
the best scenery and afford some of the best cast possible, so when promoting the film through advertising they
could afford to make it eye catching for the customers so it can make them want to watch the film when it is
released. An alternative method of finance could be crowd funding but because World War Z is a popular film it has
larger budgets then other companies.
Overall finance is important because it can make the film the best that it can possibly be, the budget is set before so
that the producers can sort the budget and focus on what needs to be focused on because it means that the
outcome can be more successful is the budget is used wisely and in the right manner.
Logistical considerations such as deadlines
and resources.
World War Z set deadlines on different things to make sure that the film was produced finished and prepared
the film earned $5.7 million on its opening day (Thursday, June 20, 2013)and $45.8 million on its opening
weekend. When making a film World War Z would need to set a deadline to have the overall film production
completed etc. World War Z needed deadlines due to the fact that it had the potential to be a blockbusting film
and had a high potential in the film industry. The resources that was used by World War Z was the different
locations, cast, crew and the technology that was required such as the camera etc. which is important in the
media to lead to the success of the film
Deadlines and resources are important due to the fact that they help push the cast and crew to get the film
promoted and finished in time for the release date for World War Z which was Thursday, June 20, 2013 so
making sure everything was prepared for them is important because the process needs to be completed for
this date so it can be released world wide.
Deadlines are set for a film so they can make sure that the film is ready for the release date. Deadlines are set
on different things, such as editing etc. making time limits are important because it means it will give them a
goal to aim and have it done and It finished by.
Regulatory requirements
The regulatory requirements that World War Z intended to achieve was they aimed to make a profit and be a
successful movie, when the film was being produced, the overall amount of money what was added, the
producers had an aim to double the amount of money that was invested by the company from sales etc. World
War Z met all of the regulatory requirements which is a must for the film company and production.
When making a film, regulations need to be taken into consideration looking at restrictions such as the law and
insurance, for example making sure that the location is insured incase it goes wrong. Regulations also know as
film censorship in the media. Film censorship is carried out by various countries to differing degrees, sometimes
as a result of powerful or relentless lobbying by organizations or individuals. Films that are banned in a particular
country change over time.
Overall the regulatory requirements are important, for example if a film for specific reasons is banned in a
country then it means that it can affect the sales in countries therefore having an affect on the money. World War
Z met the regulatory requirements because the film was successful and made a massive budget and profit from
the film production.
Industry formats (documents)
An industry format is the usability test reports specifies the format for reporting the results of a summative
usability evaluation.
A summative evaluation produces usability metrics that describe how usable a product is when used in a
particular context of use.
When producing the film this would have to be taken into consideration because it can help show or determine
if the films overall production will be successful or not.
Industry formats are important because it can see the films processes and see how the film will be monitored
and produced and also can help the process the documents are important as they can be kept with the
production team and must be given to each production team members.
In conclusion these documents are important because they can grant permission on someone acting in the film
giving them the rights to use them in the film using the documents to ask for there permission.
Pre production processes
In the pre production process in the film World War Z trouble emerged early, three weeks before shooting was to
begin in June 2011, sources say Forster had not made critical decisions about what the zombies would look like
and how they would move. “They just couldn’t get it right,” one insider says. “There was a lot of spinning of
plates, a lot of talking they did not have a plan.” Meanwhile, seasoned below-the-line talents were hired, then
replaced, including line producer Colin Wilson (Avatar) and Oscar-winning effects man John Nelson (Gladiator).
Cinematographer Robert Richardson, who has three Oscars, is said to have asked to leave the production on
more than one occasion. This was a problem that World War Z faced in the pre production process but from the
hiring of the other award winning actors it was a stage that was overcome by World War Z and they made sure
that the problem was dealt with quick so it didn't’t affect the production of the rest of the film.
Overall the pre production method is important because it means that the film can be planned to the best and
can mean that everything will be in place and ready for when the film making will begin.
Pre production documentation
Film-making Pre-production Documents. A range of pre-production templates used during the
media business research project.
The pre production documentation is a screenplay or script is the written text of a play, film, or
broadcast. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also
narrated.
The pre production documentation is important because the pre production documents is to
provide you with some suitable examples and an understanding of their content of what the film
production crew aim to do and what they are looking to achieve.
This documentation is used by other film production companies to make the film production
crew have an idea and different stages to aim for the success of World War Z .
