Who are test plans for?
With test plans, it makes sense that testers would be most involved in this test planning process. But why
are test plans important even if you’re not a tester?
If you’re a manager or stakeholder, you want to make sure the right things are covered. The test plan gives
insight into what your team is doing and gives you confidence as a stakeholder that your team is going to
cover what’s needed. Test plans are important for a whole team because of the need for traceability.
For someone working in DevOps, you’re invested in every part of your tool kit providing you a consistent
livestream of data; planning is always an integral part of DevOps. Lastly, as a developer, you most obviously
want to know that things are being tested well and have the accountability that the thing you’re trying to build
right will meet the needs of the customer.
In the quality journey, quality test plans set everyone up for success–no matter your specific role.

9. Writing Test Plans
As stated at the beginning of the course, there is no industry standard for test plans. It’s largely dependent on
your context; however, as a reminder, no matter what you do, you want to be sure to address scope, risks,
and assumptions.
Below, you'll find various test plan templates you can use for ideas or adapt to fit your own needs.
