 Public Affairs and Public Policy Internships 

THE NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER CENTER FOR PUBLIC POLICY
& THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AT DARTMOUTH COLLEGE

 What Past Interns Say 
“I am so grateful that the Rockefeller Center's
Internship program gave me the opportunity to
complete an internship at the Department of Education.
Not only was it an outstanding experience, but my
internship allowed me to bring everything I've learned in
classes, programming such as MLDP, and prior work
experience together.”
– Anne Portland ’14, Department of Education, Washington,
DC, Summer 2013, and Management and Leadership
Development Program (MLDP) participant, Spring 2013
“The Rockefeller Center's Internship Program is a
wonderful opportunity. It allowed me to participate in a
meaningful internship with DC Public Schools where I
was able to make a significant contribution to their
amazing work in education reform, as well as learn so
much about the education field. In addition, the
opportunities for self-reflection and discussion are
incredibly valuable parts of the funding program.”
– Emily Weiswasser ’14, DC Public Schools - Urban
Education Leaders Internship Program, Washington, DC,
Summer 2013

& SOCIAL SCIENCES AT DARTMOUTH COLLEGE

 What is the Internship Program? 
The Rockefeller Center can help students fund and prepare for a
leave-term internship experience in public policy research, public
policy analysis, issue evaluation, and/or activities that help shape
and determine public policy—whether at the local, state, national,
or international level. Students funded by the Rockefeller Center
intern with a wide variety of organizations and agencies. These
include governmental entities, non-profits, or think tanks
focusing on any of the sectors within public policy, including
economics, education, environment, health, international
relations, and/or law. Internships may take place within the U.S.
or anywhere across the world.
Students are encouraged to visit the Center for Professional
Development (formally Career Services) for advising and to
access DartBoard to learn about internship opportunities. More
information, including tips on how to find an internship, can be
found at our website:
http://rockefeller.dartmouth.edu/studentopps/internships.html

 Learning Objectives 


Apply and test concepts learned in the classroom by
meaningfully contributing to a real-world work
environment;



Learn how to work and conduct oneself in a professional
setting while producing a quality work product;



Be exposed to the various roles of organizations and
institutions involved with policy making; and



Grow, both personally and professionally, by intentionally
reflecting on the internship and by utilizing the experience
to inform future academic and career decisions.
