Essay On Resume
A resume a short, simple document that highlights an individual's experience, qualifications, skills
education and certifications in hopes of finding a job and is usually limited to one, maybe two
pages. (WiseGEEK, n.d.) Some employers ask for a resume, other employers ask for what is called a
Curriculum Vitae, often shorted to CV. Some employers use the term interchangeably. The CV
includes all life accomplishments, in chronological order regardless of the relevance to the job
duties. In the academic community, a CVs is the most common and can ran several pages long and
is often requested for graduate and professional schools like PHD programs. (Simpson, n.d.) A well
written resume contains contact information about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A functional resume is a better fit for someone who is entering the work force after a long period of
absence relating health or personal reasons, may have had a long string of temp jobs that lasted only
a few weeks or a couple months. This type can highlight jobs that are relevant to what the hiring
managers are looking for while leaving the date off and focuses more on education, skills and past
job duties. Taking the time to choose the best format is worth it. Choose the right font and size.
Times New Roman 12 has been the long standing standard. Keep italics, underlining, bold, and the
use of bullets to a minimum and stay consistent with the style you choose. First of all, before
applying for any job, get a basic resume put together. I recommend a chronological resume to use a
template. On some note book paper, write down a basic objective–what kind of position are you
looking for? Are you trying to switch industries? Are you looking for a lateral move or trying to go
for a job with more responsibilities? Those are important questions to ask yourself as you write an
objective. From there, under the heading of employment list all the jobs you've had over the last 10–
15 years. Job title, basic job duties and approximate dates. If you don't remember your hire date or

Personal Narrative
I had two individuals review my resume from the view of a merchandising and retail field. The first
person that reviewed my resume was Tara Derricott. Tara Derricott is the Assistant Trade Book and
Gift Buyer at the BYU–Idaho University Store. Her biggest suggestion to me was to add a "skills"
section to my resume. She told me that when she helps with interviews and reads students' resumes,
she likes to see a skills section. This is because it helps her see if their personality and abilities work
with the company. She also commented that she really appreciated that I kept it to one page. In order
to keep it to one page I had to eliminate one of my experiences, which also fixed my experiences to
be in chronological order. The last suggestion she gave to me was to change the font of my name to
the font of the rest of my resume. Tara Derricott counseled that more than one font and any color on
a resume is too distracting for an employer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jodie Rindlisbacher is a Senior Manager for Demarle at Home. Her suggestions leaned more
towards making sure my resume was consistent all the way through. She suggested I make all of my
bullet points only one line. With this suggestion I had to change a few bullet points or create another
bullet point for the information that was two lines long. This affected my Picture Perfect Booths and
National Honor Society experiences. Her other suggestions changed my bullet point section under
Yellowstone Bear World. Jodie Rindlisbacher commented that I should change the word "store" with
the word "shop" on the first bullet point, because I use the word shop in the company name. Her
other suggestion with this section was to be more descriptive with how I handle sales. By being
more descriptive it helps show employers what my skills and knowledge I have. I took this
suggestion and added that I "handled sales of merchandise with a computerized cash

Executive Résumé
Executive Résumé: This is intended for the C–Level Executive. The reader will likely spend 20–30
seconds initially reviewing this résumé, since there are fewer qualified candidates at this level. To
that end we develop phrases that describe qualifications and key accomplishments at the top of the
résumé. We also list core competencies. Of course the goal of this format is to attract the reader to
spend 3–5 minutes reading the résumé. Professional Résumé: Many of our clients have been
working for more than three years and are in Manager–level or Director–level positions. Their
résumé ends up in a "stack" of résumés, so the reader likely spends 8 – 10 seconds in the initial

A Proposal For A Resume

a resume, what stands out to employers, and what will disqualify a resume. This proposal introduces
the topic by discussing the problem and providing a solution. It will also provide the scope of the
report, the research methods, my qualifications, my work plan to complete the report, and a draft of
the reports table of contents.
Introduction
How to create a resume is not a skill that is taught very often anymore but it is a skill that is
expected. Expecting people to create a resume when they have no clue how to does not work. Often
people will find a template from the internet or word but employers can tell if a person uses a
template. Those templates give suggestion to what to fill in but people who either don't have much
work experience, are shy about their skills, or simply do not know what to put down are at loss to
what they should be putting down and what they should not. This report will address how to avoid
those issues.
Statement of Problem
Creating and having a resume is something that is expected of people in today's society but rarely
are people actually taught how to create a resume. High school is suppose to prepare the youth for
the world but how to create a resume is something that is not taught in any of the classes that a
student is required to take. There are templates online or in word but often students/people have no
clue what to actually put in

Sample Cover Letter: Personal Narrative
Good Evening Cheri, Thank you for your post and kind words. I greatly appreciate it. From my
experiences, I truly believe that In a nutshell an individual's resume is a short snapshot of who they
are and why he or she is the best choice for the job. In today's job market, no matter what the job or
industry who are trying to enter, it is key that your resume catches a potential
opportunity's/employer's eye and tells the story they want to hear. I not saying fabricate your
abilities, but present the in a clear direct manner that makes the potential employer say, "Wow, I
(we) need to meet this person." However, be sure that you can back your resume. Do not make your
snapshot one of fiction. The other point I want to make is that if your resume

Reflection Of The Curriculum Portfolio
How well does your portfolio reflect the course goals and requirements (as defined in the syllabus)?
My portfolio is able to meet the course goals because it clearly describes my personal goals in both
positions. They are both tailored to the position that I am applying for, in that they take words from
the application in my short answer and cover letter specifically. I worked to make my online
presence more professional with a fairly distinct change in my profile, that prior focused on my
current job, that now looks forward to the positions that I hope to achieve. With my research of the
audiences, I found two positions that I think will provide me with skills and experiences that will
help me reach my future goals as well. The requirements according to the syllabus as to having a
copyedited final version is met in this draft also, and the audience is kept in mind in all citations.
This material has been submitted on time, and includes all required portions therefore meeting the
remaining requirement for this paper.
What choices did you make as you crafted your message to a variety of audiences? What decisions
did you make about your writing in response to feedback from peers, your instructor, and your Real
Reader? Choose 1–2 significant revisions to discuss in detail.

The Things You Are Covered About Careers In Class
This essay is about all the things we covered about careers in class. It is also going to be abe about
how i see my future and what career i want. A resume is something you make in order to get a job.
You write your experiences and skills. It helps by showing the boss of the job you're applying at the
skills you have. I think job resumes are a good thing and a bad thing. I think it's a good thing
because you can show all your past accomplishments and your experiences. I also think it's a bad
thing because people can lie about so many things just to get a job. A cover letter is a letter that you
send with your resume to wherever you are applying a job for. A cover letter just explaining why
you would be the right person for the job and just introducing yourself. It's helpful by telling your

Professional Writing Reflection
.
This course has afforded me the ability to improve my professional writing skills in the working
field. The various writing assignments from the first assignment of writing a memo to the final
assignment of a nursing exemplar has been a challenge. The learnings of a variety of elements that
go alone with professional writing has heighten my knowledge and skills of writing. The remainder
of this paper will give readers a view of what and how the writing assignments assisted me with this
skill.
The learning I received from memo writing assignment would be to assure they are short, direct and
remain within inside the company; anything longer than a page the reader loses interest. The
assignment of composing a meeting agenda was one of my most pleasurable assignments, although
it carried some complicatedness for me. I have never been required to formulate a professional
agenda in my career; so, therefore, it required a lot of effort. In my opinion, the best element of the
assignment was devising discussion question. Formulating these questions caused me to think
critically and bring about my creativity. I do feel the need to continue practicing this skill in view of
the fact that I have never been required to draw one up, and will possibly be experiencing this in the
future. Therefore, I will continue to perfect this skill. With this assignment, I have learned how to
create a professional agenda and how to integrate nursing literature into a professional meeting. The
job research journal was one of my best–learned assignments. I thoroughly enjoyed the research
portion, identifying each job mission and values and noting if they align with those of my own
values. This also allowed me to profoundly research the advantages and benefits of the top two jobs
chosen. This assignment I will carry throughout my career. For the resume and cover letter
assignment, there wasn't much new information for me to learn as I was very familiar with the
contents of a resume and cover letter. However, with this being so, I will continue to remember the
significance of a resume and will continue to utilize them throughout my career. The mock interview
and elevator speech will be very beneficial in my upcoming career; it will permit me

Informative Speech : Joining A Sorority
Informative Speech
Joining a sorority is not just four for years but for life. Going through a week–long process of
meeting thousands of girls can be intense, overwhelming but intriguing and exciting as well.
Recruitment to many is known as a terrifying process where girls come from all over with matching
shirts, bright smiles and dreams that at the end of the week they will receive the white envelope that
incases the 4x6 card with the sororities crest inviting them into their sisterhood. By preparing ahead
of time, which includes building a resume, searching for recommendation letters and extensive
research on each chapter, sorority recruitment doesn't have to be an intimating process.
Before the recruitment process begins the first step is to create a resume. The main idea for potential
new members to create a resume is to show the best version of themselves. The first section of all
resumes has to do with education. This includes listing graduating high school, graduation date,
class rank, GPA, dual credit/AP courses and ACT/SAT sources. The next step is getting the perfect
headshot. Thousands of girls go through recruitment every year so it is imperative to stand out.
When including a head shot it is important to remember that "everyone's face is part of their own
"brand" and the goal is to be recognized". Therefore, its best to choose a photo that is exemplifies
confidence and personality. Having a headshot is a great way to put a name to a face, however
recruitment is not based on looks but instead on character and values. The best thing to include on a
resume is "all of accomplishments from the last four years". Accomplishments include but are not
limited to extracurricular activities, community service, and awards. It is most important to include
any leadership roles because sororities are all about empowering women to have commitment and
dedication. Here is a sample of a recruitment resumes. (SHOW IMAGE) After a bullet proof resume
is completed the next step is to seek out recommendation letters.

Reflection Of Self Reflection
When I registered for this course I did not know what to expect from the title of the class – Arts and
Sciences in the Workplace. In my opinion, the information and material I obtained within the span
of two months was exceptionally helpful. Without hesitation, I recommend this course to anyone
who may feel they need to brush up on their professionalism. Individuals who are undecided in
which major to select could find this course useful. Overall, the materials I inserted in my portfolio
are representations of concepts I felt that would best benefit me in the professional world. The
reflections in my portfolio not only assisted my general understanding of adulthood, but influenced
my perception of who I am as an individual. A majority of the topics I reflected on were categorized
in the "Personal Development" section. The most beneficial aspect that assisted me the most was
taking advantage of more opportunities, analytically researching and spending the time to get to
realize the different aspects about me. I certainly feel more confident in becoming a productive
employee in the workplace. When I decided to take the Saboteur test there were no specific
expectations I had for this assessment. It turns out that our mind has saboteurs of their own.
Consequently, we struggle with them on a daily basis. However, individuals are different. Therefore,

Ethics Case Study Summary
Summary In this case study a view of ethics or social responsibility is presented. The case study
addresses what some applicants are willing to do in order to obtain the job being pursued or to get
ahead. A few applicants are willing to change or misrepresent a small fact on their application or
resume (Gomez–Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2016). Some alterations are to conceal information that is
protected by law such as date of birth (Gomez–Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2016). Other times the
alterations are made to make an applicant appear more qualified in order to obtain a job being
sought (Gomez–Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2016). Reasoning for the alterations aside,
misrepresentations on resumes by applicants happens about 30% of the time (Gomez–Mejia, Balkin,

Essay On Resumes
My process for choosing the top two resumes featured a series of steps to eliminate people in groups
until I had a shorter list to choose from. First, I eliminated any resumes that were turned in late.
Deadlines are extremely important when turning in a resume to an employer and I did not believe it
was fair to look at a resume that were turned in late when others had been turned in on time. Next, I
went through the resumes based on their educational information. I looked at where the candidate
placed their information, if they listed their GPA, and if they were part of the Honors College as
well as if they were involved on campus in any way outside their coursework. To me, GPA and
school involvement were good indicators of how well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, I had limited information about each person because I only had what they had written
about themselves. It was also hard for me to not implicit favorites by comparing one resume to the
next. I tried my hardest to avoid a 'good enough' solution, wanting to find the very best resume, but
there were times when I looked at some resumes twice when I should have eliminated them sooner.
While rational choice is the way to find the very best solution, it's impossible for me as a human to
do follow such an approach, but through my process I still believe I picked good candidates for the
positions. When looking at someone's resumes, it is easy to fall into emotional traps that can lead
towards the wrong choice. For example, it is extremely easy to judge a resume based on the first
impression it gives, such as a bad layout, or a hard to read formatting. The primary effect bias does
not give the resume a fair change because it is toss aside before you look closer at any of the true
details it provides. You can also falsely judge a resume if some of the details match your own life or
personality. This 'like me' bias often leads to someone awarding a resume extra points just because
the candidate volunteers for the same organization, has the same major, or is from the same home
town. You can also get caught choosing a resume based on the recency bias, meaning

Create A Resume
The first thing you should consider when looking for a job is your resume. A resume is a blueprint
that details what you have accomplished with regards to education, experience, skills acquisition,
workplace successes, and progressive responsibility and/or leadership (Patricia and Sherfield 161).
Many people struggle with landing a job because of their resume. In my essay, I will be providing an
outline to how to create a resume. I have collected information from online, personal references, and
the class's textbook; AOT 133 Professional Development. To show a difference from a well put
together resume verse a poorly written resume, I created two resumes; one prior to learning how to
create a resume and one after learning. When you prepare your resume, keep your future employer
in mind. Include your full name and make sure your contact information is up to date and accurate
so any future employer can contact you if necessary. You should not include your birthday, gender,
or address ("How to Write a Resume"). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An objective is a short sentence that tells the future employer what type of position you're looking
for and your employment goals ("How to Create Your Resume"). It is okay to use the words, I, me,
or my in your objective, but it's best to avoid them (Patricia and Sherfield 158). An example of a
weak objective is, "I want to work as a marketing manager with a major corporation". A strong
objective would be "Seeking a marketing position that will utilize my organization talents, oral
communication skills, and expertise with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi, and Facebook in a
competitive, engaging, and high–energy environment." (Patricia and Sherfield 164). Clarification is
important, especially when including your past education and job history. The second step in

few different cover letters until I got the idea. After I got my draft back with the comments to
improve my cover letter I knew I had a lot of work to do. The first change I started to work on was
my skills mentioned in my second paragraph. I had many of my skills listed but none of them

adding examples into my cover letter to show the company how I have applied my skills in many
different ways to adding transitions into my paper to make it flow better then to making my resume
more visually appealing. My cover letter and resume has come a long way in the past week and a

Disadvantages Of Online Recruiting
The Advantage and Disadvantage of Online Recruiting
After completing the chapters reading at Bethel University, this student have learned that more and
more companies are utilizing online recruiting as there main source of hiring process for their
organizations. Online job sites have transformed the recruitment landscape for both employers and
job seekers and largely increased the efficiency with which hiring decisions can take place. In
addition to the now conventional social networking recruitment tools, recruiters may find the use of
more targeted association sites to help narrow the candidate pool and make sure efforts are not being
wasted on uninterested parties. Local business forums, supported by a city or regional website,
frequently have job boards hosting local businesses and may also keep member directories and
contact information useful to recruiters. Industry sites typically have databases of resumes and direct
discussion environments that can facilitate direct electronic contact with a candidate. As for this
adult student, one would be more attracted to company that uses online recruiting methods for their
hiring process. Bethel, (2011), "Online recruitment is the process of using the Internet to actively
seek out and recruit talented candidates for an organization. The Internet has quickly become one of
the primary recruitment tools for both internal recruitment and talent acquisition committees and
third–party companies (p.144).

Chronological Resumes
Resumes are important in telling a potential employees story in a condensed version of their
educational and employment history. Employers generally prefer single–page resumes; however,
often a two–page resume is acceptable (Cardon, 2013). Moreover, including too much information
contributes to confusion or jumbled messages and in contrast may actually take away from the
important qualifications and abilities that are displayed. According to Cardon (2013), chronological
resumes are the most common and are preferred 75% of the time. Accordingly, chronological
resumes are designed in reverse order with the most recent work history and education listed first
(Gantner, 2010). Chronological resumes are beneficial in displaying a strong work history.
Consequently, these resumes are preferred when there are no gaps in one's work history. In addition,
chronological resumes are also best in displaying a young professional's education and skills
(Cardon, 2013). Key components of chronological resumes are the name block, summary of ...

Importance is placed on drawing attention to key skills and qualifications that an employee
possesses (Gantner, 2010). Potential employees that have gaps in their work history use functional
resumes to showcase potential skills while relating experiences using those skills as an advantage in
gaining employment. According to Cardon (2013), professionals with more than 15 years of
experience or potential employees with little work experience benefit most by creating functional
resumes. Components of functional resumes are the name block, summary of qualifications or

to potential employees with a vast amount of work experience, even individuals with key skills from

Personal Reflection Essay
Introduction Before this module, I was nervous about will I be able to get a placement. Or even how
to apply for a placement? Although I had a general knowledge about CV, I didn't know that CV must
be tailored for each company you are applying for. I just had one CV which I used for everything.
But now, because of Management Skills module, I am more relaxed as I have a basic understanding
about how to apply, tailor CV so it meets the requirement of the business and what employee look
for. Applying for placement and jobs During the first part of the module, we focused of writing CV
and cover letters. In the first seminar, we analysed two CV's and two cover letters and looked for its
strength and weakness. From this exercise, I learned that just stating the skills and qualities is not
enough, you have to make sure to write how you developed them as well, whether it's from work
experience or playing sports. Moreover, I found out that different business has different
interpersonal skills requirement, so when making CV I will make sure to state the requirement they
want. Furthermore, from reviewing the cover letter, I discovered that when writing cover letter,
make sure I write about what I can provide for the business not just what they can offer for me. For
instant, next time I write cover letter, I will say "I will bring my leadership skills to your company
which I have developed from working at Marks and Spencer as I had to mentor new employee".

Cover Letter Benefits
A cover letter is necessary and very helpful for employers when filtering through multiple resumes.
To an employer a cover letter is a bit of a preview as to what the resume has to offer, while to a
prospective employee, a cover letter is a foot in the door. According to the Office of Career Services
at Harvard University, "A good way to create a response–producing cover letter is to highlight your
skills or experiences that are most applicable to the job or industry and to tailor the letter to the
specific organization you are applying to" (16). It is one's first impression in black and white and
states a clear desire and capability for the desired position. Think of the cover letter as one's voice
for their personality and drive that sets them apart from others, where as the resume is the facts and
details of one's experience and capabilities.
What most if not all sources for tips on writing an effective cover letter for a position within the
health care state, is the importance of focusing on the needs of the employer and highlighting your
capabilities, which match this need. This tip has been shared by scholars at Harvard University as
well as from the professionals at Monster Worldwide, a source responsible for endless professional

Obviously highlighting one's skills and capabilities is important, but more important to keep it short
and to the point so highlighting experience that pertains to the specific position desired. A tip that
was also noted throughout all sources of information was to avoid using personal pronouns, such as
"I". Shining a modest light on the skills and experience that will make one stand out the most
through a neutral yet assertive tone is a great goal for any resume within a health care position.

When I decided to reenter the workforce and began the tedious and gut–wrenching task of sending

You need to sound less fancy when writing your good cover letters for resumes.
What? This threw me for a loop. But she explained: My writing was in fact great. I had a very

Taste's 'Resume'
Taste– "Resumé" captures the speaker's struggle with depression, suicidal ideation, and acceptance.
Parker was known for her wit in times of turmoil, such as her lifelong struggle with depression. This
poem in particular kills the romanticism that surrounds mental illness by comparing the cons of
different methods of suicide. "Acids stain you" is a reference to the poisoning of one's self, most
likely with carbolic acid, which was a common method of suicide during Parker's time. I chose
lemon juice for my taste, due to its sour connotations. I really want the audience to feel the
bitterness and acidity of Parker's writing in the lemon juice. Furthermore, the audience should note

Essay about Informative Speech: How to Build a Resume
Informative Speech
Many individuals have stressed out over job interviews and their resumes. I think that everyone has

include your contact information which would include your phone number, email address, your

your resume. It is helpful if you update your resume when new experiences can be provided. You
need to show who you are in the business world and make sure that your resume is clear, consistent,

So now that you know what your resume is and what you need to put into it you need to know how

Personal Reflection
As I was reading this book, I kept having awe moments because I have either seen the material
covered in real time or have thought about it. Out of the five career strategy components, the two
that stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my
educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant.
Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job
within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group,
little did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was
my lack of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never
visited a career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover
letter. Feeling unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I
fell into a minor depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew.
However, it was one experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and
every job in the market and got the opportunity to interview for AT&T for a clerk position. Going
into the job interview I had high hopes because I knew I had the discipline. When I entered the
office where the interview was being held, the hiring manager asked me a few questions about
myself and then he stopped. He was looking over my resume and

Recruitment is a process in which allows businesses to obtain selected qualified people to attend to a

The recruitment process is the steps in order to successfully pick suitable employees that match the

Tesco's documentation for the recruitment process is slightly different to typical documents as the

Writing Your Cover Letter
Writing Your Cover Letter: What Important Points Are You Missing?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), every resume that you submit to a potential
employer needs a cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to arouse interest and highlight core
competencies. Below explains
Separate your Resume and Cover Letter
One of the most common mistakes that job seekers make is to simply summarize their resume in
their cover letter. However, the primary purpose of the cover letter is to express your interest and
particular interest in the specific position. Therefore, use the cover letter as an opportunities to
express your personality and share your passion for your industry. For example, you could share
examples from your personal and work life that highlight your passion for the position and industry.
Proofread for Perfection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a well–written cover letter doesn't mean that content is engaging and even interesting.
Proofread for content quality to ensure that your cover letter smoothly flows. If possible, read the
cover letter out loud and logically analyze how it sounds. Does it make you sound intelligent and
professional, or does it ramble on with unnecessary information? If possible, have others proofread
your cover letter and provide feedback.
Be Professional, yet Personal
Cover letters must follow the standard business format, which includes proper salutation, opening,
body and closing. However, the cover letter is one of the best ways to sell yourself through
highlighting not only your qualifications, but your unique, pleasant personality. Keep in mind that
HR professionals will only spend a few seconds skimming through your personality, so it's better to
be honest and engaging, then stiffly formal. That is, reveal how passionate and upbeat you are, while
maintaining a professional tone.

Resume Reflective Analysis
Reflective Analysis for resume Initially starting off, I had a resume previously used for my current
position. I originally wanted just to have that resume included, and work off of that. Through careful
evaluation, I realized I needed some changes. Originally, my resume had basic skills, a vague
summary, and bullet point highlights of what each career entailed. From reviewing examples of
resumes for the position I am applying to, I found differences in which I believe would be necessary
to add, and realization that I needed to apply an overall change for the better. For the structure of the
resume, I kept it simple with a summary, skills, and work history section, then broke the skills and

I ended up applying examples of this into one area of the resume, and break out by category.
Resumes I had come across had technical skills closer to the bottom, and general skills closer to the
top. From my perspective, it would be helpful to have these in one section of the resume, so that the
hiring manager can review first, which programming languages the applicant has knowledge in, then
what competencies are held outside of programming. In return, this helps the hiring manager to gain
an understanding of how the applicant can apply their overall knowledge to the position. Specific
skills in my resume included T–SQL, C#, JavaScript, user acceptance testing, technical analysis, and
material gathering, and each of these in fact applied to the job description in one area. Additional
skills were added that could be useful to the position as well. Prior to this assignment, for work
history, I had just used bullet points for specific tasks done on a daily basis. From looking at other
resumes for this field, key achievement fields stood out to me. I carefully selected my key
achievements to be geared towards using knowledge to help other teams, and utilizing applications
that are used in the position each day. In my opinion, this will give the hiring manager the
impression that I am knowledgeable in the applications

Essay On Resume

  • 1. Essay On Resume A resume a short, simple document that highlights an individual's experience, qualifications, skills education and certifications in hopes of finding a job and is usually limited to one, maybe two pages. (WiseGEEK, n.d.) Some employers ask for a resume, other employers ask for what is called a Curriculum Vitae, often shorted to CV. Some employers use the term interchangeably. The CV includes all life accomplishments, in chronological order regardless of the relevance to the job duties. In the academic community, a CVs is the most common and can ran several pages long and is often requested for graduate and professional schools like PHD programs. (Simpson, n.d.) A functional resume is a better fit for someone who is entering the work force after a long period of absence relating health or personal reasons, may have had a long string of temp jobs that lasted only a few weeks or a couple months. This type can highlight jobs that are relevant to what the hiring managers are looking for while leaving the date off and focuses more on education, skills and past job duties. Taking the time to choose the best format is worth it. Choose the right font and size. Times New Roman 12 has been the long standing standard. Keep italics, underlining, bold, and the use of bullets to a minimum and stay consistent with the style you choose. First of all, before applying for any job, get a basic resume put together. I recommend a chronological resume to use a template. On some note book paper, write down a basic objective–what kind of position are you looking for? Are you trying to switch industries? Are you looking for a lateral move or trying to go for a job with more responsibilities? Those are important questions to ask yourself as you write an objective. From there, under the heading of employment list all the jobs you've had over the last 10– 15 years. Job title, basic job duties and approximate dates. • 9. Personal Narrative I had two individuals review my resume from the view of a merchandising and retail field. The first person that reviewed my resume was Tara Derricott. Tara Derricott is the Assistant Trade Book and Gift Buyer at the BYU–Idaho University Store. Her biggest suggestion to me was to add a "skills" section to my resume. She told me that when she helps with interviews and reads students' resumes, she likes to see a skills section. This is because it helps her see if their personality and abilities work with the company. She also commented that she really appreciated that I kept it to one page. In order to keep it to one page I had to eliminate one of my experiences, which also fixed my experiences to be in chronological order. The last suggestion she gave to me was to change the font of my name to the font of the rest of my resume. Tara Derricott counseled that more than one font and any color on a resume is too distracting for an employer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jodie Rindlisbacher is a Senior Manager for Demarle at Home. Her suggestions leaned more towards making sure my resume was consistent all the way through. She suggested I make all of my bullet points only one line. With this suggestion I had to change a few bullet points or create another bullet point for the information that was two lines long. This affected my Picture Perfect Booths and National Honor Society experiences. Her other suggestions changed my bullet point section under Yellowstone Bear World. Jodie Rindlisbacher commented that I should change the word "store" with the word "shop" on the first bullet point, because I use the word shop in the company name. Her other suggestion with this section was to be more descriptive with how I handle sales. By being more descriptive it helps show employers what my skills and knowledge I have. • 17. Sample Cover Letter: Personal Narrative Good Evening Cheri, Thank you for your post and kind words. I greatly appreciate it. From my experiences, I truly believe that In a nutshell an individual's resume is a short snapshot of who they are and why he or she is the best choice for the job. In today's job market, no matter what the job or industry who are trying to enter, it is key that your resume catches a potential opportunity's/employer's eye and tells the story they want to hear. I not saying fabricate your abilities, but present the in a clear direct manner that makes the potential employer say, "Wow, I (we) need to meet this person." However, be sure that you can back your resume. Do not make your snapshot one of fiction. The other point I want to make is that if your resume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My portfolio is able to meet the course goals because it clearly describes my personal goals in both positions. I worked to make my online presence more professional with a fairly distinct change in my profile, that prior focused on my current job, that now looks forward to the positions that I hope to achieve. The requirements according to the syllabus as to having a copyedited final version is met in this draft also, and the audience is kept in mind in all citations. This material has been submitted on time, and includes all required portions therefore meeting the remaining requirement for this paper. • 21. The Things You Are Covered About Careers In Class This essay is about all the things we covered about careers in class. It is also going to be abe about how i see my future and what career i want. A resume is something you make in order to get a job. You write your experiences and skills. It helps by showing the boss of the job you're applying at the skills you have. I think job resumes are a good thing and a bad thing. I think it's a good thing because you can show all your past accomplishments and your experiences. I also think it's a bad thing because people can lie about so many things just to get a job. A cover letter is a letter that you send with your resume to wherever you are applying a job for. • 23. Professional Writing Reflection . This course has afforded me the ability to improve my professional writing skills in the working field. The various writing assignments from the first assignment of writing a memo to the final assignment of a nursing exemplar has been a challenge. The learnings of a variety of elements that go alone with professional writing has heighten my knowledge and skills of writing. The remainder of this paper will give readers a view of what and how the writing assignments assisted me with this skill. The learning I received from memo writing assignment would be to assure they are short, direct and remain within inside the company; anything longer than a page the reader loses interest. The assignment of composing a meeting agenda was one of my most pleasurable assignments, although it carried some complicatedness for me. I have never been required to formulate a professional agenda in my career; so, therefore, it required a lot of effort. In my opinion, the best element of the assignment was devising discussion question. Formulating these questions caused me to think critically and bring about my creativity. I do feel the need to continue practicing this skill in view of the fact that I have never been required to draw one up, and will possibly be experiencing this in the future. Therefore, I will continue to perfect this skill. With this assignment, I have learned how to create a professional agenda and how to integrate nursing literature into a professional meeting. The job research journal was one of my best–learned assignments. I thoroughly enjoyed the research portion, identifying each job mission and values and noting if they align with those of my own values. This also allowed me to profoundly research the advantages and benefits of the top two jobs chosen. This assignment I will carry throughout my career. For the resume and cover letter assignment, there wasn't much new information for me to learn as I was very familiar with the contents of a resume and cover letter. However, with this being so, I will continue to remember the significance of a resume and will continue to utilize them throughout my career. The mock interview and elevator speech will be very beneficial in my upcoming career; it will permit me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Informative Speech : Joining A Sorority Informative Speech Joining a sorority is not just four for years but for life. Going through a week–long process of meeting thousands of girls can be intense, overwhelming but intriguing and exciting as well. Recruitment to many is known as a terrifying process where girls come from all over with matching shirts, bright smiles and dreams that at the end of the week they will receive the white envelope that incases the 4x6 card with the sororities crest inviting them into their sisterhood. By preparing ahead of time, which includes building a resume, searching for recommendation letters and extensive research on each chapter, sorority recruitment doesn't have to be an intimating process. Before the recruitment process begins the first step is to create a resume. The main idea for potential new members to create a resume is to show the best version of themselves. The first section of all resumes has to do with education. This includes listing graduating high school, graduation date, class rank, GPA, dual credit/AP courses and ACT/SAT sources. The next step is getting the perfect headshot. Thousands of girls go through recruitment every year so it is imperative to stand out. When including a head shot it is important to remember that "everyone's face is part of their own "brand" and the goal is to be recognized". Therefore, its best to choose a photo that is exemplifies confidence and personality. Having a headshot is a great way to put a name to a face, however recruitment is not based on looks but instead on character and values. The best thing to include on a resume is "all of accomplishments from the last four years". Accomplishments include but are not limited to extracurricular activities, community service, and awards. It is most important to include any leadership roles because sororities are all about empowering women to have commitment and dedication. Here is a sample of a recruitment resumes. • 34. Reflection Of Self Reflection When I registered for this course I did not know what to expect from the title of the class – Arts and Sciences in the Workplace. In my opinion, the information and material I obtained within the span of two months was exceptionally helpful. Without hesitation, I recommend this course to anyone who may feel they need to brush up on their professionalism. Individuals who are undecided in which major to select could find this course useful. Overall, the materials I inserted in my portfolio are representations of concepts I felt that would best benefit me in the professional world. You can also falsely judge a resume if some of the details match your own life or personality.
