Growing Up In When You Were Born To Stand Out Analysis
Good evening parents, school faculty, teachers, and, of course, graduates.
This day marks another milestone in our young lives as we celebrate our graduation day and receive
our long–awaited, hard–earned graduation diploma.
Getting here was a bumpy ride but thanks to all the lessons, guidance, and knowledge the teachers
shared with us, the joy that we shared with each other, and the values our parents have taught us, we
are able to be where we are now!
Today we celebrate our achievements, our perseverance, and our successes.
Graduations can be seen as the end of a stage and as a beginning of another. As we look back we can
still remember our first day of school. We have grown, become more independent, matured, and
learned. We are becoming young adults and have to learn the responsibilities this carries.
We are aware that we live in a very fortunate environment. We have ... Show more content on

Let's make it our own, let's give it our all. As Dr. Seuss says:
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction
you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide
where to go".
Be different, stand out and shine in whatever you choose to do. "Why fit in when you were born to
stand out".
To our parents:
Thank you for believing in us, teaching us the values of love, and patience, being understanding,
setting an example, and for showing us the true meaning of family.
Thank you for your unconditional support, your time, and for making us your life's project.
We are eternally grateful and hopefully we can repay you by making you feel proud of ourselves.
We will strive for excellence personally and professionally. That is our goal.
To our teachers:
We know that we don't make your life very easy, but be sure that all your effort is appreciated and
never underestimated. Every day makes a difference in our lives, every subject, every project, and
every book makes us richer.

Special Speech On Special Transition
Special Transition
( Intro– optional) Hello and good evening everyone. Thank you for coming to witness this special
event. You are all are going to witness a special milestone that will forever be in our hearts.
Remember that your presence alone supports us in every way possible as we are going through a
special transition today. Now, I will start my speech.
–––––
A milestone. What is a milestone? Today, we are going to experience a milestone. A life milestone
that all of us, in the future, will look back to and talk about how things were back then to the current
lives we live in, the things we regret and the things we are proud of. We will someday, remember
what this moment meant for us. But that doesn't answer what a milestone ... Show more content on

But now that we are graduating, we are now considered a teenager, an adolescent, an alien, a young
adult, and all the other names out there. We, as the 2015, grade eight graduates will be transitioning
from elementary to high school, a child to an adolescent. However, graduating elementary isn't the
end, it just means that we just finished a chapter of our lives or the first novel of our trilogy. The
next step, which is being an actual adolescent is the second novel of our lives, it will be a new
beginning we somehow need to surmount. A more complicated, difficult– looking life, which
actually isn't. Next year, when we are going for our first day of high school, it's a bigger world. We'll
meet new people with different knowledge, doings, ethnicity, religion, race, languages and more.
Personally, even I, who other people around me absolutely believe is ready for high school, think of
such worries like: What if I don't get my locker open in time? What if I can't even open my locker?
What if I get influenced badly in high school? What if I am late in the first day of school? What if,
what if , what if. A bunch of what if's that just restrains us from being confident and proud of
ourselves. Don't worry, just remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in your body and that it'll help you
down the road. Focus more on the positives of life. In high school, the fact that we can get to meet

Personal Narrative : The Making Of Me Essay
The Making of Me. "What are we going to do! What about my graduation?" Linz repeats frantically
over and over, as the daunting reality slowly sat in. Our lives daily routine kept repeating day in and
day out, we'd kept delaying the solution, that would make our car stop the silent screams to get our
attention. I wondered on that stressful day, when were we too late to just give in and finally listen to
the clear indicators the car manufactures put in place to alert drivers when their automobiles were in
needed of repair. Our procrastination landed us in the situation we found our self's on that winter
morning. Mid 2011, Linz and I got married, and added to our count of children, when we had twins!
The stress of having a family of six was slowly starting to show. We were accustomed to taking care
of our eight and five–year–old children who use the bath room without assistance, and for the most
part could do most things on their own. Now we had these new twin babies who required a lot of
attention that was mainly at night, as well as double the diaper, clothes, and food. We quickly
arrived to the realization that we HAD to do more, picking up extra hours at work was not enough.
We decided we'd both attend college. Linz came into the marriage with his own vehicle; a Black 4
door, 2003 Chevy Cavalier, he called it "The Bat mobile" and it was in pristine condition. Our lives
became busier with the decision for us to attend to school. Miles were accumulating on the car as

Summary Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou
The Value of Education
Americans in the 1940's valued education in a different way than they do today. Americans of that
era considered graduating from the eighth–grade the completion of public schooling for many. In
her memoir "Graduation Day," Maya Angelou describes the events and excitement leading up to and
including her eighth–grade graduation ceremony. The events that take place at her graduation
transform Angelou's views of her education in a profound manner. The value Angelou places on her
education increases throughout the events of her graduation.
Angelou's value of education strengthens when her community celebrates and encourages her
scholastic accomplishments and her continuing education. Angelou's value of education progresses
from an already elevated level. The patrons of the family store display support for Angelou's
educational ventures by gifting money to her "... with the instruction 'keep on moving to higher
ground'" (Angelou, 2014, p. 183). The people of the store see the value in continuing Angelou's
education. The people want Angelo to achieve a better means of living than they themselves could
afford; they know that her education would play a key role. This encouragement strengthens the
value she places on education when she realizes the overwhelming support her community provides.
Similarly, Angelou's family bolsters the value she places on education. The growth comes when she
receives "... a soft–leather–bound copy of a collection of poems by Edgar

Disadvantages Of A Limousine Service
In past, when the limousine considered very luxurious ride and only for royal families but today, that
feeling of luxurious and comfort still is available. The variation is that more individuals are using
limos. The Toronto Airport Limousine service is becoming less expensive and accessible.
Nowadays, there are many occasions when everyone may want to hire the limousine service.
1. Wedding ceremonies
Riding in the cab can be fun for your brides as well as bridesmaids whilst going with each other to
shop for bridal wear. As for grooms and their buddies, a chauffeured vehicle has become the safest
way to travel throughout and after the night at a bachelor's party. Lastly, the big day arrives. The

dressing up and creating a special event from it. When these types of evenings away happen, there is
certainly an end at an eating place, and perhaps a number of bars. The friends might request the
driver to take them to a dancing club or perhaps a coffee shop. On the night like this, anything can
occur. An experienced chauffeur takes everything in stride and satisfies every requirement.
4. Party Night
The chauffeur may make most of the same types of date night because on a friend's night out. The

Finding a limousine for any date night shows the person that she is appreciated and respected.

Graduating days usually consist of units of ceremony, family and some partying. The actual
graduates desire some way to obtain from their houses to the precise location of the event. After
that, they have to flow among all the actual parties and the family at home. The taxi can provide an
additional touch to accomplish the ceremony of passing. The unique treatment causes the graduates

Graduation Epidemic
My high school graduation was one of the saddest moments of my life. Although I was excited
about graduating, I did not know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. In Maya Angelou's
"Graduation," Angelou was excited and proud of all that she had accomplished. In Flannery
O'Connor's "A Late Encounter With the Enemy," Sally Poker Sash was proud that she was finally
graduating and just wanted to show that off to all the "upstarts". In the two readings the pupils are
contrasting in a few different areas, and a couple of those areas are in pride and feelings that their
families have being involved in the graduation. In both of the readings the pupils have a great sense
of pride; however the pride is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously Sash has not worked very hard and does not even care that she is graduating with a
degree, all that she is proud of is that she gets to show it off.
In both stories the main characters have family involved in their graduations, but they are involved
for entirely different reasons. Angelou's mother is proud and excited of her daughter's graduation. To
show this she gets started right away on her butter–yellow pique dress that all the girls are wearing
for graduation. Also on the day of graduation her mother makes a Sunday breakfast even though it
was only Friday. Another thing, her brother Bailey was also very happy for his sister. We get to see
his happiness for her when he gives her a box that is wrapped in Christmas paper. Bailey had saved
his money for months to be able to buy Angelou a soft–leather bound copy of a collection of poems
by Edgar Allen Poe. In contrast, the only person that Sash has is her grandfather General Sash. "The
General did not give two slaps for her graduation..." Also the General would not have even gone to
the graduation if Miss Sash had not promised that he would get to sit on stage. Anytime, anyplace
that the General can sit on stage, he is there. So it was not even about support, it was about his
selfish reasons just as much as it was Sally's. In concluding, every graduation is different. The
feelings that people have and the way that the families are involved are usually different for

My Experience In High School
It was the beginning of a new cycle. Every year was similar to the last. I would wake up Monday
through Friday at 7:30am despising my past self for staying up so late playing video games or
watching videos. Then I would take a shower, eat breakfast, and be driven to school. Once summer
break would begin and I would stay up all night and sleep during the day. Then near the beginning
of the school year my anxiety would strike, from me thinking of meeting new teachers and knowing
if I would have any friends in my classes. This day changed all of that in the blink of an eye. It was
May 14th, 2017, the day of graduation.
Let me take it back a day. We were running more than a couple minutes late to our graduation
rehearsal, Oscar, my brother Luis, and I. We arrived at the high school with our dress clothes on. We
exited Oscar's Acura and commenced to put our cap and gowns on. Then we entered the building
and were greeted by our principle, Mr. Maynard, who was as red as a tomato. Not only were we
hazed by our classmates for our late arrival, but to put the cherry on top, my brother and I forgot our
tassels.
The rehearsal started and the whole class of 2017 was bombarded with a rundown of how each
student would perform throughout the graduation. Then came the action part, which I do not know
about you but when it comes to me, I am more of a doing learner rather than a listening learner.
After the rehearsal, every student was escorted to one of two school buses. The buses were jam

Essay on High School Graduation
High School Graduation Graduation is an exciting time in a person's life, especially a high school
graduation. For most people their graduation day is one of their best day of their lives. No more high
school, and for some it means that they are able to move on with their life and live on their own as
well as embark on the independent journey of college. In my case, when I think of family and
friends gathering to celebrate a joyous occasion. I feel like I accomplished my strongest goal. It
never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of my adulthood.
Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my
existence. Although, my graduation day started out not so well, ... Show more content on

My friend and I were still waiting for our names to be called out, but as were sitting down my friend
had asked me, "Can you believe were graduating already?" I replied back, "No it's hard to believe
how were going to graduate high school in less than two days." Than finally my principal called out
my name and handed me cap and gown as I quickly took it and just sat there while I stared at the
bright gold color. It's funny how the simplest things can symbolize a whole new beginning. Second,
after I got my cap and gown my friends and I tried it on and took pictures for the last time, than we
went to class and talked about what we were going to wear to graduation and how we would do our
hair and makeup, and where we would meet up so we could all go together. As our last class ended
for the day, I realized how another day was gone and we were a couple days close to graduation day
which made me more anxious as well as excited at the same time. As I got home I put my cap and
gown in my closet and just stood there and stared at it for a couple minutes as I wondered how fast
high school went by and how I would leave all the memories behind and start a whole new different
experience in college. As I stood there, suddenly someone knocked on the door. As I opened the
door my friend was standing right in front of my porch. I asked her, "what are you doing here?" she
responded, "get ready were going to go dress shopping." I smiled and went back to my

Narrative Speech : My Valedictorian Speech
I paced back and forth as I waited for my turn to go on stage. It was graduation day and it was only a
matter of seconds before I had to give my valedictorian speech. I was going to have to say goodbye
to the school that had the biggest impact in my life. I hope everything goes as planned, I thought as I
kept pacing. There can't be any mistakes. You made this perfect. You spent nights working on this.
Just focus. "Now, let's give it up for your valedictorian, Miss Isabella Mortensen," Principal Francis
said. Applause erupted from the crowd as I made my way on stage. I smiled and waved as I made
my way to the podium. I placed my papers on the podium and actually put my focus on the crowd.
There were so many eyes staring at me as I was about to give my speech. I felt my palms get sweaty
and I felt myself burning up. The nerves were finally catching up to me. What if I take too long?
What if it's too short? Just breathe. I reminded myself. Everything is under control as long as you
breathe.
I took a deep breath before saying, "After four long years, here we are, saying our final goodbyes. It
seems like it was just yesterday when we walked into this school as freshmen. We had that hopeful
look in our eyes, wondering what adventure high school would bring us. Now, high school will
become a distant memory as we take our next step in life." The more I spoke, the more confident I
felt.
As I was giving my speech, I watched the crowd's reaction. Majority of the

Finding Employment For College Graduates
There has been a major problem with finding employment for college graduates. Many students
believe in order to receive a great job after you graduate you must attend an elite school or a
predominately white school. Graduating from a historical black college most of the time gets looked
down on because how people view them. There is a stigma that HBCU's are less stringent and
collect fewer less post grad employment opportunities. Sometimes receiving employment is not all
about what school you graduated from, the color of your skin, or what gender you are, it's about
simply what you know or who you know. Another problem is that many of the schools do not help
students find job opportunities with makes it harder for the student. It is believed that implicit
association and institutional perception is involved when getting selected for a job. Does school
choice really define who you are?
There have been studies done about graduates having difficulty finding employment because of the
school they attended. School choice should not define who you are, but sadly sometimes it does.
There was a graduate from Prairie View A&M University who was seeking employment. The
graduate applied to a company and had Prairie View on his resume as the school he graduated from,
but never got a reply. The graduate knew something was wrong because they knew that they met all
the qualifications from the position. The graduate figured it was because of the Institution so
decided to resubmit the

My Dad Had A Chronic Breathing Disorder
"My boy is about to be a college freshman" my dad said, looking at Johan put on his cap and gown
before his graduation. "I remember there were times I felt, I'd never see this day" he proclaimed. My
dad had a chronic breathing disorder. Our family doctor has said he probably has died in his sleep
many of times and didn't realize it.
It was a scary thing. I hoped I'd never have to be with him alone because I didn't want him to croak
on me. I was too young to see that. I heard those type deaths replayed in the minds of the child all
through their lives. I definitely didn't want the last image of my father falling over dead.
"Everybody, let's gather around and take a photograph before going off to the graduation", my aunt
announced. My family was really proud because Johan was the oldest in our generation. He set the
example for me and my cousins. My brother was graduating from high school as a Valedictorian.
His class ended up with 3 top students.
If you'd look at Johan, you wouldn't think he was that smart. He always had something about
himself that was odd to many people. I guess that's where his uniqueness stood out.
"I'm so excited, this family hasn't had to do this in ten years" my grandma shouted. We all laughed at
her, she acted if she was graduating herself. Our family believes in celebrating accomplishment and
life. Whenever something great happened, you better believe it was a dinner or some type of reward
coming out of the ordeal. I couldn't wait to see this

Athena Rose: A Short Story
Her name, Athena Rose. A young girl whose eyes would light up when my name was said. A girl
who would smile even when she was sad. She would walk into a room and make me feel better.
We've known each other since the 4th grade. We became best friends automatically. We couldn't be
separated no matter how hard our parents tried. She would go everywhere I went. Whenever our
families went on vacation, we would go with each other. The first vacation we went on together was
to the beach. We played in the sand all day. I went and grabbed a bucket, then filled it up with water.
I carefully carried the water back from the ocean. I quietly snuck up behind her and flipped the

She seemed more depressed and isolated from the rest of the world. She barely talked to me
anymore. When she did talk to me, it was very seldom. I tried apologizing for hurting her but she
still didn 't want to befriend me again. I noticed she got really skinny during freshman year. It all
happened so fast. She grew to be only a whopping 100 pounds for a 5'4" girl. Her hair was almost
down her whole back. She withered away to nothing. The one night I was talking to her, I asked why
she decided to lose weight. She told me she didn't do it on purpose, it just happened. She developed
an eating disorder called bulimia. Her parents didn't care what she did anymore so she never got

that she was the most beautiful thing I ever would lay eyes on and I regret not seeing this sooner. On
graduation day she put the gown on and came up to me. She reached in her pocket and pulled out a
locket. "I got this for you. I would have given it to you at your graduation party, but I'll be gone by
then." She whispered. I opened it to see a picture of us. "I don't understand, my graduation party is
on Saturday. Why are you leaving for college so early?" I questioned. "Oh, I'm not leaving for

Stepping upon a simple stage was the best thing I could have ever done. Overseeing the multitude
that was there to witness my every word, every tremble, every emotion, and every heart beat, was
then that I realized that the sentiment was real. It was essentially the end of time and I could not bear
to hold back what I no intentions of doing. Cry. Tears of joy darted down my face as I walked across
the stage and received my ultimate gift. With fancy inscription, my gift was entitled "Class of 2009".
I had just graduated. "Ok seniors, everyone settle down and take your seat with your name on it".
The principle conducted everyone as we prepared to get ready for our practice graduation walk.

ran out the door and past me with glee assuring me that she would see me on Monday, the day of our
graduation. Saturday and Sunday went by fast. Vowing that God had cut off at least twelve hours off
my weekend, Monday morning arrived. I had to be at the coliseum at nine a.m. I woke up at eight
thirty on the dot. With no essential worries and not a care in the world what I looked like, I merely
jumped out of bed and put my graduation dress, cap, and gown on. In six minutes flat I was ready to
go. I made it out my room and past the mirror wall right before I was about to leave. Looking at
myself I knew I looked unacceptable, but my mind could not lead me to care. Right before I could
make it out the door my mom vented her words of refutation. "Where do you think you are going?
You did not bother to brush your hair, wash your face nor take a shower." Thinking quickly, I

Effects Of Industrialization
After the civil war, the United States took steps to become a more industrialized country. They
wanted to become more progressive and "many people viewed this economic growth as evidence of
the superiority of the American system". The effects industrialization can be seen throughout history
between 1865 and 1914. Industrialization improved the American way of life but also created many
problems for them. The Industrialization transformed humanity's struggle with material scarcity to
expand the production of goods and services. The percentage of 17 year old high school graduates
who graduated with a diploma continued to rise from 1870 to 1910. In 1870, 2% of 17–year–olds

There were long working hours with small pay and extremely dangerous working conditions.
Stephen Crane writes in In the Depths of a Coal Mine in August 1894 that "It has only to tighten
slightly, and he is crushed like a bug....There is an insidious, silent enemy in the gas. If the huge fan
wheel on the top of the earth should stop for a brief period, there is certain death....Meanwhile the
miner gets three dollars per day, and his laborer one dollar and a quarter." Here Crane is only
describing the working life of a coal miner. He discusses how dangerous the job is and how low the
pay is. There were no safety precautions and no safety gear or protection at all. If one small thing
went wrong, you had a likely chance of dying. Many important inventions were being invented at
this time which had a profound impact of the modern life. Thomas Edison invented over 1,000
inventions throughout his life. One of the most important and well–known inventions that changed
the American way of life was the phonograph in 1877. The phonograph was a machine with two
needles: one needle was for recording sounds and the other was for the playback. When Edison
would speak into the mouthpiece, the sound vibrations of his voice would be "indented onto the
cylinder by the recording needle"

The Meaning Of Life Milestones In High School
There are many significant in your life. From being born to your first step to going to school. There
are life milestones but milestones are so much more than just a moment. Milestones are what make
your life up, where you take a minute and say, "Wow I actually did this." For me, one of my biggest
milestones was high school graduation. It wasn't the actual graduation itself, but the meaning
underneath and what it meant for me for the rest of my life. Not only was I growing older and
moving on with my entire environment changed. Graduation marked the end of a chapter in my
book with some people and continues new ones with others. I will never forget Graduation day. I
remember the morning with yelling and having to get ready, the evening with the actual graduation,
and the night when it was all said and done.
Graduation morning was really hectic. Not only was I graduation high school but my brother had
just graduated college. We woke up that morning and I had to eat breakfast fast to get ready for my
graduation. My mother insisted on dressing me in my stole, pins, and all the ropes I received from
high school. After that was done my brother put on his gown. We went to Brookside Garden and
took so many pictures. I was super excited but the hat was killing me. There wasn't one good part
about it, it was itchy and kept trying to fall off. Plus on top of that, I have super long hair down to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Denzel Washington's 'Make A...
As Denzel Washington stands before the graduates of Dillard University at their commencement
ceremony, he saw an opportunity to encourage them of future success through his "Make a
Difference" speech. To appeal to his audience, he uses logos when he introduces tips on success. He
said to "Remember that just because you're doing a lot more doesn't mean you're getting a lot more
done. Don't confuse movement with progress" (Washington). This then helps the audience clearly
understand how to begin this mission to success. As his use of logos was meant to provide
instructions, he applies ethos to obtain credibility when he states that he was once "flunking out of
college. I had a 1.7 grade point average. I hope none of you can relate. I had a 1.7 grade point
average" (Washington). The speaker wants to be a relatable example to all the graduates that he is
standing before. Throughout this speech, Washington efficiently utilizes diction, tone, and repetition
to appeal to the graduates and encourage them to dream.
To begin, Washington is standing upon the stage to provide uplifting words as these students move
on to greater things. He uses words such as "dream", "aspire" and "success" (Washington), to
provide motivation for them to become more improved and promising individuals. These words are
all encouraging and positive for the purpose of influencing the graduates to pursue a fruitful life and
to continue dreaming of more prosperity and goodness. While he is telling his

I won't speak long today for two reasons. The first being that I remember my high school graduation
and I couldn't tell you who spoke or how many speakers there even were; all I remember is the that
person in front of me had one of the old Gameboys and was playing Tetris. Everyone was so
enthralled with what the speakers were saying that a group of about 30 of my classmates were
leaning in and watching him play Tetris. One of the funniest things I ever saw was a picture taken of
my graduating class and seeing the right half of the graduates sitting peacefully and left half all
leaning in to watch a single person play a black and white video game. Which illustrates my second
point perfectly: that you don't really want to listen to me. You want to go out and prove to the rest of
the world what everyone here at Bulls already knows: that no matter how many late nights or hours
of perseverance it takes for you to achieve your goals, you will achieve them, and nothing can stop

I could stand up here and rave about Bulls. That the group of people that work there is one of the
most diverse and incredible groups of people I have ever had the chance to meet. But I won't

The Most Important Day In My Life
Everyone has their moments. The ones that are happy, sad and ones you'll never forget no matter
how hard you try. The most important day of my life was my high school graduation. I had many
emotions, the place wasn't very welcoming, but the overall experience was great. I'd do it all over
again.
I have one word for you, and that's emotions. From where do I begin? Since I am a September baby,
I am older than everyone else. I was happy and nervous. Graduation was the key to the next chapter
of my life, if you think about it, it's a lot of pressure. I was sitting in the car with my parents and my
little brother, Omar. "I'm so proud of you Bian! "he said. Though I was feeling quite nervous about
accepting my diploma, I said, "Thanks Omar. It means a lot you're here to support me "His smile
was so big, you could clearly tell how happy he was for me. My mom and Dad were proud of me
also. My mom, being the classic emotional wreck over her little girl graduating high school was
crying many tears of joy, because she and I both know we struggled emotionally to get to this goal.
Dad was quiet. He was excited, but on the inside.
Men have to be tough you know, even if it's his little girl, someone has to keep it together in this
house. For me, it was a totally different experience you know? I was afraid, nervous and quite proud
of myself. I was in my cap and gown, staring at myself in the bathroom mirror, and I thought to
myself, " Look at you, you're so grown up ". As I walked to

Attention Grabbing Step: After years of writing papers, doing homework, taking an occasional pop
quiz, and of course taking countless exams, it is that time that we all anticipate...Graduation!

away, I am going to provide you with some historical background information and some fun facts

downs along the way. No matter which direction you seemed to be heading, the end destination for

ceremony serves many purposes. Mostly, the ceremony is considered a rite of passage and marks a
transition from one stage in a student's life to another. Typically, friends and family of the graduate
gather to celebrate the occasion. In a recent United States survey, $985 was the average amount
spent on graduation celebrations. I guess you could say graduating is a big thing! Although most
understand the basic concept behind graduation, have you wondered what the history behind the
ceremony, cap, and gown is?
Satisfaction Step: According to Yahoo answers.com, the origin of the graduation ceremony began in

Descriptive Essay About My Day
In the silent neighborhood of Beall Avenue in Rockville, the alarm echoed for the fifth time to alert
me that it was about five AM in the morning. It was June eighth, the day that I had been anticipating
since I began ninth grade four years ago. High school graduation was finally here. My best friend
and I got up quickly and started our day. Agnes applied foundation on my rough face and filled in
my eyebrows. My lips were painted with rosy mauve and my smooth cheekbones illuminated. My
hair was curled and I was ready to leave my best friend's house. The birds chirped and slow R&B
jams played from my car speakers as I made my way to my place. I parked my car, turned the lock,
and witness a mess before me. No one was ready.

At the station platform, there was a sea of diverse faces, some carrying a conversation, and some
who were listening to their early morning tunes. Many were in suits carrying a briefcase on their
side while I was with my flowy white dress, four–inch black heels, and a black bag that I held in my
hand, standing next to my family.
The platform lights were blinking, signaling the metro was arriving shortly. Once it docked, the door
opened for some to get off, and some to get in. I had already discerned through the metro's
transparent windows that it barely had space for my family and I. The riders inside were firmly
grasping the pole for support, standing close to each other. My parents had decided then to wait for
the next train. I agreed and we were on the lookout for the next one.
About ten minutes later, another metro had finally appeared, and this one had standing room for the
four of us. It was not unexpected that there would be no seats and we were left standing with no
choice but to appreciate the bittersweet ride on that pleasant morning.
I grasped tightly to the bar, as I stood in my four–inch heels trying to hide my annoyance. My feet
were throbbing in pain and there was nothing more that I needed at that moment than a seat. A seat,
that would have comforted me and put my uneasiness to rest. I kept glancing over at my phone to
check the time and saw that time was nearing. I did not utter a single word through the train ride
until we arrived at DuPont Circle. I

Personal Narrative Essay : My High School Graduation Day
My High school Graduation Day Like many students, I waited for the day of my high school
graduation ever since I started high school. I waited for that day to come with patient. I also wanted
to see my parent's excitement, and the proud moments they have waited for. I didn't believe that
graduation will be very emotional. The emotional moments started when I put my cap and gown on.
Then the memories started to come, first thing that came to my mind was how did I survive school
with my ADD. I have always struggled with school due to my ADD. I was passing my classes with
average grades even though I was doing my best, and working hard on my assignments. At the same
time, I was feeling nervous thinking about walking down to the stage and receiving my diploma.
The more I was thinking about my big day, the more overwhelming I became as I was going to start
a whole new step in life. I was very proud of myself on that day. I was very pleased that I celebrated
that day with my family and friends, I was proud of myself because I challenged myself to pass high
School, and made my family proud. Then, as I walked to the stage to receive my diploma, my heart
was beating fast, and my face was turning red. When the principal called out my name, I walked
with pride, shook his hand, and got my diploma. During these moments, I heard a loud cheering
from family and friends. Then I walked down the stairs, and held my diploma high toward the side
my family were sitting, and their cheering got louder, and I became happier. After I went back to my
seat, I was looking at my diploma and started thinking how I successfully folded one chapter in my
life, and how to start opening a whole new one by going to college. At that time, I was thinking
about how excited college could be, meeting new people, more mature, their thinking will be
different. I also thought college will be my new path way to real life. Moreover, I looked around at
my friends as the ceremony was getting close to the end. I was getting emotional as I had to say
good bye to most of my friends, it was very hard for me to think about not seeing some of them
again because they were planning to move and attend out of state college. The ceremony ended with

Graduation Speech : Class Of 2005 From Senior From Harvard
His goals here were firstly, to praise the class of 2005 from managing to graduate from Stanford.
This is shown in the first part of his speech where he compliments the students for graduating from
"one of the finest universities in the world." Next, he is also seeking to impart what he learnt about
life and failure to the students. This can be observed through the stories that he deliberately chose to
impart his points: connecting the dots, love and loss, and death. I feel that these were chosen to
highlight the key turning points in his life, and what knowledge he was able to gain from them.
Lastly, I feel that his goal was to motivate the students to excel in their fields by showing that he
was once worse off than they was. This is seen when he mentions that he "never graduated from
college". By showing the audience that he started with less, and eventually became the person that
he was, I believe that he was hoping to motivate the students to pursue their dreams.
Regarding ethos, I feel that Steve Jobs was able to establish that by first praising the students for
graduating, and secondly by admitting that he never graduated college himself. The latter showed
humility towards his audience which in turn led to them increasing their receptiveness towards him.
Thus, by making himself seem more "human", the audience will then perceive him as a humble man
worked his way to success.
To establish pathos, Jobs tells the audience about how he was fired from Apple, and about his

The First Five Stages Of The Mark Knapp Model Of...
Introduction: Jeff and I interviewed Jim and Gloria Langman, his grandpa and grandma. Jim and
Gloria have gone through the first five stages of the Mark Knapp model of relational stages which
include initiating, experimenting, intensifying, integrating, and bonding. They have been married for
49 years and most people who have been together that long have a tendency to go through the next
five stages. These stages describe how people grow apart. Jim and Gloria's relationship is unique in
the fact that they did not gone through the last five stages.
Initiating:
The initiating stage is where people people signal that they are "interested in building some kind of
relationship with the other person"(Adler and Proctor, 256). Jim and Gloria met ... Show more

They treasured these gifts and still have them to this day.
Integrating:
As their relationship grew stronger they moved into the integrating stage. This stage is characterized
when "the parties begin to take on an identity as a social unit... [and] social circles merge. As they
grew closer, they began spending more time at each other 's houses. Jim mentioned that he began to
get to know her "crazy brothers" better and said that they were called "hoods". They had a tendency
to get him into trouble. He told us a story about how her brothers were driving an extremely
expensive car around a ramp and were trying to flip it over. Gloria's dad came outside with a belt
and Jim took off running. They also told me about a turning point in their relationship. A few days
after their graduation, Jim was going to go to a girl's graduation party, which happened to be on the
same day as Gloria's. He was going to go to the other girl's party instead of Gloria's, but couldn't
find her house. Coincidentally, in his search for the girl's house in town, he saw Gloria's mom and
she told him that he should go to Gloria's party. He decided to go and according to him, this was the
point in their relationship that they truly knew that they were going to stay together forever, and this
when when their "courtship" began.
Bonding:
The bonding stage of a relationship occurs when "the parties make symbolic public gestures to show
the world that their relationship exists" (Adler and

Essay on Graduation Speech: Many Chapters Yet to Write
The fairy tales that forever touch the strings of the human heart have one thing in common: a happy
ending. For dramatic effect, the speech you are about to hear begins with one.
When we dare to venture into the past to find inspiration for the future, we are inevitably bound to
face the moments we'd much sooner forget. Our repeated experience has shown that we are more
inclined to find profundity in our seconds of misery and suffering than in years and years of
commonplace encounters. It is with that fact in mind that I ask you to imagine this very room, and
this very ceremony as it stood exactly five years ago today –Sunday, June 11, 1995. As I imagine it,
the scene is no different than the one that extends before me today: an ... Show more content on

All that remains to be said of the struggle that ensued is embodied here, before your very eyes. As
the sole artifact of victory, I unearth the demons of my past not to depress you with sorrow or to
impress you with triumph; I hope only to stand here today to bear humble witness to the
preciousness of every instant, and to the speed with which the gift of life may be revoked.
As this tale of survival is my happy ending, for all of us, this commencement ceremony must also
foretell a new beginning. We must today come to terms with the fact that we all have faced – and
survived – one of the most difficult and comprehensive curriculums this nation has to offer. As our
reflections of this past prepare us to face the future, whispers of success inevitably break the silent
moment of contemplation. For indeed, it is all too easy to be swept away in the seductions of a
golden tomorrow; now is our brief opportunity to survey the landscape and see just how high our
mountains will rise.
I make it my duty today, in these short minutes, to disrupt briefly the illusion of our daydreams and
to focus our attentions on the reality of the path ahead. As I intend my personal tale to illustrate, the
unfolding of life is barely linear, and the trail to the top of our mountains of success is never
unobstructed. The message is sobering, but hardly intended to discourage. Instead, the fleeting
frailty of our own existence, the

Graduation Speech Essay
For some of you graduates, this will be the last ceremony you might ever sit through. Most of us,
though, and I regret that I am in this group, will sit through many more ceremonies –– ceremonies
longer and more tedious that this or anything else you can imagine. If you think this is bad, try a
college graduation. Think, that is, attend a wedding. And, if just for a moment you think that that is
bad, just be thankful you have never attended or will attend a Bar Mitzvah.
The only ceremony I think anybody would truly enjoy attending is a funeral. But, only if you are

you will be able to be honored at a ceremony and not have to make chit ... Show more content on

What I did, was grab a random book off my book shelf. Then I chose a random page from that

and so let me share. My book was Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights," my page was page 10,
chapter two. My quote, and as of now, theme for my speech, is: "My neighbor struck me as
bordering on repulsive, I knew, through experience, that I was tolerably attractive." Wow! I think
that, that is one great theme. It works.
(Pull out pocket mirror)
I am tolerably attractive. As for my neighbor. Well, you be the judge. Really, what are the chances of
two attractive people sitting next to each other. Not likely. Why not try it yourselves. Visualize
yourself, or if you have access to a mirror, look at yourself. Alluring huh? I bet you have to admit,
you're tolerably attractive. Who are you kidding? You are foxy. You are a fox. If you were a Quentin
Tarantino movie, you would be Foxy Brown. Now tear yourself away from your own adorable self
and turn to your right. See that person. Pretty appalling. If it's a man, he's not very handsome is he?
If it's a woman, not very pretty is she? And if you cannot tell what sex it is? Well I have got three

Essay about Graduation: A Defining Moment
Graduation is an exciting time in a person's life, especially a high school graduation. When I think
of family and friends gathering together to celebrate a joyous occasion, I feel I accomplished my
strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of
adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on
my existence. Life before graduation, preparing for graduation day, and commencement day
overwhelmed me for reality.
Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but
pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die little by little every day. I did not live a normal

I was working harder than ever to finish high school early and it had really paid off. I prepared and

Graduation was not that far away and actuality was about to strike me like a lightning bolt in the
butt.
The most significant practice of the year approached us seniors. The staff put us into groups to keep
all the seniors in order. We all were divided into sections and labeled after letters and numbers. Soon
after, all the senior class entered the auditorium in an orderly fashion. The practice had us recall
memories of our freshmen to senior years. I saw a video that showed pictures of my youth to a
young adult. I begin to think of the past and how much fun I had growing up. I also thought about
how I would never see some of my friends again. After some time, the staff wanted us to practice
walking across the stage. I did not quite understand why we needed to do this; I figured they wanted
us to see how fast our life would flash in front of our eyes. At last, practice was over and I was able
to go pick up my cap and gown. During this time, I thought about the next day and how it would be
the end of another chapter in my years.
Graduation day arrived and I had butterflies out of this world. It seemed as if I misplaced
everything. I could not find my dress. My family came from one state to another. I finally got to the
church were the commencement was going to be held. I

Drug Court Reflection
When I came into Drug Court, I was lost and confused. I thought it was a joke and I thought I could
keep doing what I wanted to do. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out to get
me. I didn't know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything great. Being
in Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team really do care about
each and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares and always has time
for me no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn't until I was in Drug Court that
my life changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence which that didn't matter to me
at the time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we are okay, and they really do care
about us to take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more of a responsible person. Going to
jail was honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me and I needed to be in there. I no
longer wanted to be everyone's burden and the family disappointment. I have realized what all I
have put my mom through and I am sorry for all the wrong I've done, the sleepless nights, the
broken promises, and the stealing of money. I'm sorry for the embarrassment I've caused. I'm sorry
for all of the pain, arguments and stress. I want my mom understand that I never intended to hurt
her. I have learned a lot about myself that I never knew existed, because the person I used to be is a
totally different person than I am today. Me wanting to change is why I changed and I changed
everything. If people didn't share the same interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that
could rub off on me, I disassociated myself with those people. If you decide to change you have to
change everything, not just the areas that are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and
some do it cause they are told to but when they are done with their program, they end up going right
back to where they started off. Drug Court is not easy and I have sat through a lot of graduations,
and I would always hear the graduates say if I can do it so can you and I am sorry to say that is just
not true, or everyone would graduate. I have seen a couple of

In order to stay with the graduation theme, purchase scrapbook paper in the school colors of your
graduate. If your graduate's school colors are darker, you can purchase cream colored paper to write
on. Take the cards and cut them out into card–like shapes; if you have craft scissors that cut in fun
patterns, this is a great time to use them. If your graduate's colors are too dark to write on, cut out a
slightly smaller square and glue the lighter colored paper in the middle.
Once you have the cards assembled, use your most colorful pens and best handwriting to fill each
card up with one thing that your graduate has accomplished over the past four years. When you have
filled up all the cards, stick them on the photo holders and place them on the tables.
In order to make your table decorations a little more interactive, you can leave blank cards as well as
pens each table for guests to write down either an accomplishment they remember that your
graduate has achieved or a memory that they have with your graduate.
In order to make your table decorations for your graduation party both fun and interactive, choose
one of the two ideas listed above, or use both ideas at your party. The key is to keep the focus on the

Maya Angelou's the Graduation
Maya Angelou's The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya
Angelou's autobiographical essay "Graduation", was about more than just moving on to another
grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the
views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon
reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with
the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she
undergoes throughout the story. From the outset of the story there is an overwhelming sense of hope
that has enveloped the entire community and school with the upcoming graduation. ... Show more

All her perfect practice was now gone and the strain as they "fumbled for their chairs" began to
crush their pattern. The author was overcome with a "presentiment of worse things to come." Don
Leavy's speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she has
lost control over her future. "The accomplishment was nothing.", she has already been picked to act
and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers was
"farcial and presumtous." Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a blanket that
is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers you whole. This
is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and listen to the garbage
filling the room, "listen to charges brought against my color." What had been beautiful, was now
ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of people concreted on bias.
The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become an eternity of hopelessness.
Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world's prejudice, the author makes the words
take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life into a time that is unpleasant yet not void
of hope. "The hush–hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations" disappeared when they
were told the cold hard `truth' of their fate that some white man had already decided for them.

Audra's Rory: A Short Story
Audra devoted the next week to repairing her relationship with Rory, while Maxen focused on
establishing one. While worth the effort, it was exhausting. Rory's moods were labile, swinging
from excitement to anger with the snap of a finger, and he vacillated between anger and acceptance.
Sometimes, he was evasive, then clingy. All this was to be expected, since Rory was adjusting to a
new reality, but that did not make the process any easier. Throughout it all, Maxen remained as
patient as a priest. He never said a cross word, regardless of how much disdain Rory expressed, and
there was plenty of it. Audra and Maxen slept in different bedchambers at night, targeting their
energy on Rory, not discussing their wedding, which would occur in less ... Show more content on

Graduation
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always

graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort

is the end of high school, and the beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was

we left for the high school. The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors' cars. Tony and I

The deeper they go down into the ocean, the crew admires the beautiful blue wonders of the world.
The water temperature began to drop as they began to observe the waters and animals. From the fish
all the way to the largest sharks. Pidge was rambling about how this is such an amazing experience.
"Don't you guys know how lucky we are to be? Millions dream to be able to explore the ocean. It's
one thing to observe the world through documentaries but to experience it is completely different.
We know less about the waters of Earth than the space above us." Pidge presses close the observing
window admiring everything, leaving her station to observe all the animals and plants living in the
ocean.
"Pidge! Back to your station. You need to map out and make sure we don't accidentally head into
rough waters." Lance

The Completion Of My Degree Program At Northeastern State...
At the completion of my degree program at Northeastern State University, commencement exercises
were rapidly approaching. As most of my classmates and friends were filled with excitement, I was
experiencing mixed emotions, most of all fear of the unknown as to where I would end up.
To be completely honest, I was fearful of leaving Tahlequah and Northeastern State simply due to so
many unknown variables as to what steps I would take next in my life. I dreaded the fact that I was
leaving Tahlequah, as it was a place that helped me to grown intellectually, emotionally, and
physically.
The influence of Dr. Kent Lashley had motivated me to become more scholarly and instilled a desire
of life–long learning. Emotionally, I was forced to grow, mature, and problem solve without having
my parents there to coach me, and as a result of that, I gained confidence and independence in my
ability to make it as a young adult. Physically, I grew and learned the importance of proper nutrition,
became an avid runner, and earned my 3rd degree black belt before graduating from college.
The fear within me was simply not knowing where I would end up teaching with my first job. I had
not applied too many places in Oklahoma before my graduation date as I had placed all of my eggs
in one basket. I had relied on a young lady that I thought would spend the rest of my life with and
was headed to Florida to fulfill a lifelong goal. Little did I know that the relationship would
completely dissolve

Language as a Tool in Maya Angelou's...
In Maya Angelou's Essay `Graduation' the use of language as a navigational tool is very evident, as
it leads from emotion to emotion on the occasion of the author's graduation from eighth grade. Over
the course of the work, Angelou displays 3 major emotions simply based from the language she
uses; excitement, disappointment and finally, redemption The beginning of this work focuses on
speaking of excitement and joy due to the upcoming eighth grade graduation, "The children in
Stamps trembled visibly with anticipation" (835). The children were shaking with excitement due to
the impending graduation services. The graduation is the most important thing happening in the
town of Stamps, "We even made a sign for the Store....It read ... Show more content on

The mood drops lower with every word Mr. DonLeavy spoke, "The man's dead words fell like
bricks around the auditorium" (839) People in the audience were so used to shouting Amens and
other encouragements, but these Amens came purely out of habit and they were heavy and slow with
disgust. There was underlying racism in almost everything he said, the praise he gave out was rotten,
for it was only praise with athletic reference, .".. one of the first–line tacklers at Arkansas
Agricultural and Mechanical College graduated from good old Lafayette County Training School"
(839). Angelou was disgusted at his false commendations, "The white kids were going to have a
chance to be Galileos and Madame Curies....and our boys would try to be Jesse Owenses and Joe
Louises" (839). While the white children were to be given the chance to excel with newer and nicer
school supplies, the black children were supposed to hope that they would be good enough at sports
that they wouldn't need schooling. While the Angelou is sitting listening to his speech, she starts to
give up and get down on herself, "It was awful to be Negro and have no control over my life" (839).
Angelou felt she and her classmates were being told what their destinies held; they were to be
maids, farmers, maybe athletes, but never anything more. She even starting giving up on the human
race as a whole, "As a species, we were an abomination" (839). She wasn't focusing

Pros And Cons Of Job Application Essay
"Too many college graduates enter into post grad on a chaotic job hunt without any advice on how
to navigate through it. While in college you hear countless stories of people not finding employment
after graduation but never do you actually think it would be you. If you graduated and immediately
found your dream job then congratulations!! But this blog isn't for you. It's for the reader who has
been filling out so many job applications that they aren't even sure what they want to do anymore.
It's for the readers who disregard what they majored in just so they can enter the workforce. And
lastly, it is for the reader who lives in their own disappointment, who have made sure they held
internships, kept their grades up, and obtained the necessary skills but still can't find employment. I
am here to tell you that it is okay. Things will fall into place but you must keep your head up and
stay on the path that was ordained just for you."
I guess people just forget about MSU Career services, deans of colleges, and graduates at MSU that
have experience/knowledge on how to search for a job, etc. From my experience, you don't fill out a
job application to get the job, you only fill out the job application once you have it. How do you do
that ? Magic ? No building connections. If you do not have a job after graduation you are to blame
and pure laziness. Its too many resources and potential connections to build at a University to be
unemployed after graduation. Every time I hear a

Breakfast : The Most Important Meal Of The Day
Breakfast. The most important meal of the day. This is something we all have heard. Eat your
breakfast so the day can begin right. Breakfast is indeed a vital part of the day. However, I
personally don't care for breakfast food, I never have. Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. have
never been my "thing". I think it is the textures that get to me, or it could just be that I dread getting
up earlier than I have to. I am not a morning person at all. Most of the time I just skip breakfast. I
know overall that is not a good thing. I would soon learn just how important it is not to skip this
meal one bitterly cold winter morning. When you live in Michigan you get the luxury of the full
winter experience. There is glistening snow on the ground, the trees are bare and the cold winter
wind hits you across the face. Today felt colder than usual nevertheless, it was a typical weekend for
me. My mother dropped me off at the mall. I headed straight to the food court seeing as though I
didn't eat breakfast this morning. I am amazed by the Christmas lights and decorations. Christmas is
my absolute favorite time of year. It can't get any better than this. I am craving taco bell, so I walk
up to the counter and proceed to place my order, "Hi
Douglas 2
I would like to get...". Pause. What is happening? I am feeling dizzy. How did I get on a roller
coaster? Who is screaming? Why is it so dark?
The lights are so bright now. I am slightly perplexed. I was just ordering a nacho bell

Growing Up In When You Were Born To Stand Out Analysis

  • 1. Growing Up In When You Were Born To Stand Out Analysis Good evening parents, school faculty, teachers, and, of course, graduates. This day marks another milestone in our young lives as we celebrate our graduation day and receive our long–awaited, hard–earned graduation diploma. Getting here was a bumpy ride but thanks to all the lessons, guidance, and knowledge the teachers shared with us, the joy that we shared with each other, and the values our parents have taught us, we are able to be where we are now! Today we celebrate our achievements, our perseverance, and our successes. Graduations can be seen as the end of a stage and as a beginning of another. As we look back we can still remember our first day of school. We have grown, become more independent, matured, and learned. We are becoming young adults and have to learn the responsibilities this carries. We are aware that we live in a very fortunate environment. We have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let's make it our own, let's give it our all. As Dr. Seuss says: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go". Be different, stand out and shine in whatever you choose to do. "Why fit in when you were born to stand out". To our parents: Thank you for believing in us, teaching us the values of love, and patience, being understanding, setting an example, and for showing us the true meaning of family. Thank you for your unconditional support, your time, and for making us your life's project. We are eternally grateful and hopefully we can repay you by making you feel proud of ourselves. We will strive for excellence personally and professionally. That is our goal. To our teachers: We know that we don't make your life very easy, but be sure that all your effort is appreciated and never underestimated. Every day makes a difference in our lives, every subject, every project, and every book makes us richer. To our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Special Speech On Special Transition Special Transition ( Intro– optional) Hello and good evening everyone. Thank you for coming to witness this special event. You are all are going to witness a special milestone that will forever be in our hearts. Remember that your presence alone supports us in every way possible as we are going through a special transition today. Now, I will start my speech. ––––– A milestone. What is a milestone? Today, we are going to experience a milestone. A life milestone that all of us, in the future, will look back to and talk about how things were back then to the current lives we live in, the things we regret and the things we are proud of. We will someday, remember what this moment meant for us. But that doesn't answer what a milestone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But now that we are graduating, we are now considered a teenager, an adolescent, an alien, a young adult, and all the other names out there. We, as the 2015, grade eight graduates will be transitioning from elementary to high school, a child to an adolescent. However, graduating elementary isn't the end, it just means that we just finished a chapter of our lives or the first novel of our trilogy. The next step, which is being an actual adolescent is the second novel of our lives, it will be a new beginning we somehow need to surmount. A more complicated, difficult– looking life, which actually isn't. Next year, when we are going for our first day of high school, it's a bigger world. We'll meet new people with different knowledge, doings, ethnicity, religion, race, languages and more. Personally, even I, who other people around me absolutely believe is ready for high school, think of such worries like: What if I don't get my locker open in time? What if I can't even open my locker? What if I get influenced badly in high school? What if I am late in the first day of school? What if, what if , what if. A bunch of what if's that just restrains us from being confident and proud of ourselves. Don't worry, just remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in your body and that it'll help you down the road. Focus more on the positives of life. In high school, the fact that we can get to meet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative : The Making Of Me Essay The Making of Me. "What are we going to do! What about my graduation?" Linz repeats frantically over and over, as the daunting reality slowly sat in. Our lives daily routine kept repeating day in and day out, we'd kept delaying the solution, that would make our car stop the silent screams to get our attention. I wondered on that stressful day, when were we too late to just give in and finally listen to the clear indicators the car manufactures put in place to alert drivers when their automobiles were in needed of repair. Our procrastination landed us in the situation we found our self's on that winter morning. Mid 2011, Linz and I got married, and added to our count of children, when we had twins! The stress of having a family of six was slowly starting to show. We were accustomed to taking care of our eight and five–year–old children who use the bath room without assistance, and for the most part could do most things on their own. Now we had these new twin babies who required a lot of attention that was mainly at night, as well as double the diaper, clothes, and food. We quickly arrived to the realization that we HAD to do more, picking up extra hours at work was not enough. We decided we'd both attend college. Linz came into the marriage with his own vehicle; a Black 4 door, 2003 Chevy Cavalier, he called it "The Bat mobile" and it was in pristine condition. • 7. Summary Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou The Value of Education Americans in the 1940's valued education in a different way than they do today. Americans of that era considered graduating from the eighth–grade the completion of public schooling for many. In her memoir "Graduation Day," Maya Angelou describes the events and excitement leading up to and including her eighth–grade graduation ceremony. The events that take place at her graduation transform Angelou's views of her education in a profound manner. The value Angelou places on her education increases throughout the events of her graduation. Angelou's value of education strengthens when her community celebrates and encourages her scholastic accomplishments and her continuing education. Angelou's value of education progresses from an already elevated level. The patrons of the family store display support for Angelou's educational ventures by gifting money to her "... with the instruction 'keep on moving to higher ground'" (Angelou, 2014, p. 183). The people of the store see the value in continuing Angelou's education. The people want Angelo to achieve a better means of living than they themselves could afford; they know that her education would play a key role. This encouragement strengthens the value she places on education when she realizes the overwhelming support her community provides. Similarly, Angelou's family bolsters the value she places on education. The growth comes when she receives "... a soft–leather–bound copy of a collection of poems by Edgar ... • 11. High School Graduation Essay Graduation Epidemic My high school graduation was one of the saddest moments of my life. Although I was excited about graduating, I did not know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. In Maya Angelou's "Graduation," Angelou was excited and proud of all that she had accomplished. In Flannery O'Connor's "A Late Encounter With the Enemy," Sally Poker Sash was proud that she was finally graduating and just wanted to show that off to all the "upstarts". In the two readings the pupils are contrasting in a few different areas, and a couple of those areas are in pride and feelings that their families have being involved in the graduation. Obviously Sash has not worked very hard and does not even care that she is graduating with a degree, all that she is proud of is that she gets to show it off. In both stories the main characters have family involved in their graduations, but they are involved for entirely different reasons. Angelou's mother is proud and excited of her daughter's graduation. To show this she gets started right away on her butter–yellow pique dress that all the girls are wearing for graduation. Also on the day of graduation her mother makes a Sunday breakfast even though it was only Friday. Another thing, her brother Bailey was also very happy for his sister. We get to see his happiness for her when he gives her a box that is wrapped in Christmas paper. Bailey had saved his money for months to be able to buy Angelou a soft–leather bound copy of a collection of poems by Edgar Allen Poe. In contrast, the only person that Sash has is her grandfather General Sash. "The General did not give two slaps for her graduation..." Also the General would not have even gone to the graduation if Miss Sash had not promised that he would get to sit on stage. Anytime, anyplace that the General can sit on stage, he is there. So it was not even about support, it was about his selfish reasons just as much as it was Sally's. In concluding, every graduation is different. • 13. My Experience In High School It was the beginning of a new cycle. Every year was similar to the last. I would wake up Monday through Friday at 7:30am despising my past self for staying up so late playing video games or watching videos. Then I would take a shower, eat breakfast, and be driven to school. Once summer break would begin and I would stay up all night and sleep during the day. Then near the beginning of the school year my anxiety would strike, from me thinking of meeting new teachers and knowing if I would have any friends in my classes. This day changed all of that in the blink of an eye. It was May 14th, 2017, the day of graduation. Let me take it back a day. We were running more than a couple minutes late to our graduation rehearsal, Oscar, my brother Luis, and I. We arrived at the high school with our dress clothes on. We exited Oscar's Acura and commenced to put our cap and gowns on. Then we entered the building and were greeted by our principle, Mr. Maynard, who was as red as a tomato. Not only were we hazed by our classmates for our late arrival, but to put the cherry on top, my brother and I forgot our tassels. The rehearsal started and the whole class of 2017 was bombarded with a rundown of how each student would perform throughout the graduation. Then came the action part, which I do not know about you but when it comes to me, I am more of a doing learner rather than a listening learner. Than finally my principal called out my name and handed me cap and gown as I quickly took it and just sat there while I stared at the bright gold color. It's funny how the simplest things can symbolize a whole new beginning. Second, after I got my cap and gown my friends and I tried it on and took pictures for the last time, than we went to class and talked about what we were going to wear to graduation and how we would do our hair and makeup, and where we would meet up so we could all go together. As our last class ended for the day, I realized how another day was gone and we were a couple days close to graduation day which made me more anxious as well as excited at the same time. As I got home I put my cap and gown in my closet and just stood there and stared at it for a couple minutes as I wondered how fast high school went by and how I would leave all the memories behind and start a whole new different experience in college. It was graduation day and it was only a matter of seconds before I had to give my valedictorian speech. I was going to have to say goodbye to the school that had the biggest impact in my life. I hope everything goes as planned, I thought as I kept pacing. There can't be any mistakes. You made this perfect. You spent nights working on this. Just focus. "Now, let's give it up for your valedictorian, Miss Isabella Mortensen," Principal Francis said. Applause erupted from the crowd as I made my way on stage. I smiled and waved as I made my way to the podium. I placed my papers on the podium and actually put my focus on the crowd. There were so many eyes staring at me as I was about to give my speech. I felt my palms get sweaty and I felt myself burning up. The nerves were finally catching up to me. What if I take too long? What if it's too short? Just breathe. I reminded myself. Everything is under control as long as you breathe. I took a deep breath before saying, "After four long years, here we are, saying our final goodbyes. It seems like it was just yesterday when we walked into this school as freshmen. We had that hopeful look in our eyes, wondering what adventure high school would bring us. Now, high school will become a distant memory as we take our next step in life." The more I spoke, the more confident I felt. As I was giving my speech, I watched the crowd's reaction. • 19. Finding Employment For College Graduates There has been a major problem with finding employment for college graduates. Many students believe in order to receive a great job after you graduate you must attend an elite school or a predominately white school. Graduating from a historical black college most of the time gets looked down on because how people view them. There is a stigma that HBCU's are less stringent and collect fewer less post grad employment opportunities. Sometimes receiving employment is not all about what school you graduated from, the color of your skin, or what gender you are, it's about simply what you know or who you know. Another problem is that many of the schools do not help students find job opportunities with makes it harder for the student. It is believed that implicit association and institutional perception is involved when getting selected for a job. Does school choice really define who you are? There have been studies done about graduates having difficulty finding employment because of the school they attended. School choice should not define who you are, but sadly sometimes it does. There was a graduate from Prairie View A&M University who was seeking employment. The graduate applied to a company and had Prairie View on his resume as the school he graduated from, but never got a reply. "I remember there were times I felt, I'd never see this day" he proclaimed. My dad had a chronic breathing disorder. Our family doctor has said he probably has died in his sleep many of times and didn't realize it. It was a scary thing. I hoped I'd never have to be with him alone because I didn't want him to croak on me. I was too young to see that. I heard those type deaths replayed in the minds of the child all through their lives. I definitely didn't want the last image of my father falling over dead. "Everybody, let's gather around and take a photograph before going off to the graduation", my aunt announced. My family was really proud because Johan was the oldest in our generation. He set the example for me and my cousins. My brother was graduating from high school as a Valedictorian. His class ended up with 3 top students. If you'd look at Johan, you wouldn't think he was that smart. He always had something about himself that was odd to many people. I guess that's where his uniqueness stood out. • 25. What Are We Going About My Graduation? Essay "What are we going to do! Mid 2011, Linz and I got married, as well as added to our count of children when I gave birth to twins! The stress of having a family of six was slowly starting to show. We were accustomed to taking care of our eight/five–year–old children who use the bathroom without assistance, nevertheless, they could do things on their own. Now we had these new twin babies who required a lot of attention that was mainly at night, as well as double the diaper, baby clothes, and food. We quickly arrived to the realization that we HAD to do more, picking up extra hours at work was not enough. We decided we'd both attend college. Linz came into the marriage with his own vehicle; a Black 4 door, 2003 Chevy Cavalier, he called it "The Bat mobile" nevertheless it was in pristine condition. • 33. Rhetorical Analysis Of Denzel Washington's 'Make A... As Denzel Washington stands before the graduates of Dillard University at their commencement ceremony, he saw an opportunity to encourage them of future success through his "Make a Difference" speech. To appeal to his audience, he uses logos when he introduces tips on success. He said to "Remember that just because you're doing a lot more doesn't mean you're getting a lot more done. Don't confuse movement with progress" (Washington). This then helps the audience clearly understand how to begin this mission to success. As his use of logos was meant to provide instructions, he applies ethos to obtain credibility when he states that he was once "flunking out of college. I had a 1.7 grade point average. I hope none of you can relate. I had a 1.7 grade point average" (Washington). The speaker wants to be a relatable example to all the graduates that he is standing before. Throughout this speech, Washington efficiently utilizes diction, tone, and repetition to appeal to the graduates and encourage them to dream. To begin, Washington is standing upon the stage to provide uplifting words as these students move on to greater things. He uses words such as "dream", "aspire" and "success" (Washington), to provide motivation for them to become more improved and promising individuals. These words are all encouraging and positive for the purpose of influencing the graduates to pursue a fruitful life and to continue dreaming of more prosperity and goodness. At the same time, I was feeling nervous thinking about walking down to the stage and receiving my diploma. The more I was thinking about my big day, the more overwhelming I became as I was going to start a whole new step in life. I was very proud of myself on that day. I was very pleased that I celebrated that day with my family and friends, I was proud of myself because I challenged myself to pass high School, and made my family proud. Then, as I walked to the stage to receive my diploma, my heart was beating fast, and my face was turning red. When the principal called out my name, I walked with pride, shook his hand, and got my diploma. During these moments, I heard a loud cheering from family and friends. Then I walked down the stairs, and held my diploma high toward the side my family were sitting, and their cheering got louder, and I became happier. After I went back to my seat, I was looking at my diploma and started thinking how I successfully folded one chapter in my life, and how to start opening a whole new one by going to college. At that time, I was thinking about how excited college could be, meeting new people, more mature, their thinking will be different. I also thought college will be my new path way to real life. Moreover, I looked around at my friends as the ceremony was getting close to the end. I was getting emotional as I had to say good bye to most of my friends, it was very hard for me to think about not seeing some of them again because they were planning to move and attend out of state college. The ceremony ended with throwing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Graduation Speech : Class Of 2005 From Senior From Harvard His goals here were firstly, to praise the class of 2005 from managing to graduate from Stanford. This is shown in the first part of his speech where he compliments the students for graduating from "one of the finest universities in the world." Next, he is also seeking to impart what he learnt about life and failure to the students. This can be observed through the stories that he deliberately chose to impart his points: connecting the dots, love and loss, and death. I feel that these were chosen to highlight the key turning points in his life, and what knowledge he was able to gain from them. Lastly, I feel that his goal was to motivate the students to excel in their fields by showing that he was once worse off than they was. This is seen when he mentions that he "never graduated from college". By showing the audience that he started with less, and eventually became the person that he was, I believe that he was hoping to motivate the students to pursue their dreams. Regarding ethos, I feel that Steve Jobs was able to establish that by first praising the students for graduating, and secondly by admitting that he never graduated college himself. The latter showed humility towards his audience which in turn led to them increasing their receptiveness towards him. Thus, by making himself seem more "human", the audience will then perceive him as a humble man worked his way to success. To establish pathos, Jobs tells the audience about how he was fired from Apple, and about his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The First Five Stages Of The Mark Knapp Model Of... Introduction: Jeff and I interviewed Jim and Gloria Langman, his grandpa and grandma. Jim and Gloria have gone through the first five stages of the Mark Knapp model of relational stages which include initiating, experimenting, intensifying, integrating, and bonding. They have been married for 49 years and most people who have been together that long have a tendency to go through the next five stages. These stages describe how people grow apart. Jim and Gloria's relationship is unique in the fact that they did not gone through the last five stages. Initiating: The initiating stage is where people people signal that they are "interested in building some kind of relationship with the other person"(Adler and Proctor, 256). Jim and Gloria met ... This stage is characterized when "the parties begin to take on an identity as a social unit... [and] social circles merge. As they grew closer, they began spending more time at each other 's houses. Jim mentioned that he began to get to know her "crazy brothers" better and said that they were called "hoods". They had a tendency to get him into trouble. He told us a story about how her brothers were driving an extremely expensive car around a ramp and were trying to flip it over. Gloria's dad came outside with a belt and Jim took off running. They also told me about a turning point in their relationship. A few days after their graduation, Jim was going to go to a girl's graduation party, which happened to be on the same day as Gloria's. He was going to go to the other girl's party instead of Gloria's, but couldn't find her house. Coincidentally, in his search for the girl's house in town, he saw Gloria's mom and she told him that he should go to Gloria's party. He decided to go and according to him, this was the point in their relationship that they truly knew that they were going to stay together forever, and this when when their "courtship" began. Bonding: The bonding stage of a relationship occurs when "the parties make symbolic public gestures to show the world that their relationship exists" (Adler and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Essay on Graduation Speech: Many Chapters Yet to Write The fairy tales that forever touch the strings of the human heart have one thing in common: a happy ending. For dramatic effect, the speech you are about to hear begins with one. When we dare to venture into the past to find inspiration for the future, we are inevitably bound to face the moments we'd much sooner forget. Our repeated experience has shown that we are more inclined to find profundity in our seconds of misery and suffering than in years and years of commonplace encounters. It is with that fact in mind that I ask you to imagine this very room, and this very ceremony as it stood exactly five years ago today –Sunday, June 11, 1995. As I imagine it, the scene is no different than the one that extends before me today: an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All that remains to be said of the struggle that ensued is embodied here, before your very eyes. As the sole artifact of victory, I unearth the demons of my past not to depress you with sorrow or to impress you with triumph; I hope only to stand here today to bear humble witness to the preciousness of every instant, and to the speed with which the gift of life may be revoked. As this tale of survival is my happy ending, for all of us, this commencement ceremony must also foretell a new beginning. We must today come to terms with the fact that we all have faced – and survived – one of the most difficult and comprehensive curriculums this nation has to offer. As our reflections of this past prepare us to face the future, whispers of success inevitably break the silent moment of contemplation. For indeed, it is all too easy to be swept away in the seductions of a golden tomorrow; now is our brief opportunity to survey the landscape and see just how high our mountains will rise. I make it my duty today, in these short minutes, to disrupt briefly the illusion of our daydreams and to focus our attentions on the reality of the path ahead. As I intend my personal tale to illustrate, the unfolding of life is barely linear, and the trail to the top of our mountains of success is never unobstructed. The message is sobering, but hardly intended to discourage. Instead, the fleeting frailty of our own existence, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Graduation Speech Essay For some of you graduates, this will be the last ceremony you might ever sit through. Most of us, though, and I regret that I am in this group, will sit through many more ceremonies –– ceremonies longer and more tedious that this or anything else you can imagine. If you think this is bad, try a college graduation. Think, that is, attend a wedding. And, if just for a moment you think that that is bad, just be thankful you have never attended or will attend a Bar Mitzvah. The only ceremony I think anybody would truly enjoy attending is a funeral. But, only if you are lucky enough, or unlucky enough, to be the guest of honor, because, really, that will be the only time you will be able to be honored at a ceremony and not have to make chit ... My book was Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights," my page was page 10, chapter two. My quote, and as of now, theme for my speech, is: "My neighbor struck me as bordering on repulsive, I knew, through experience, that I was tolerably attractive." Wow! I think that, that is one great theme. It works. (Pull out pocket mirror) I am tolerably attractive. As for my neighbor. Well, you be the judge. Really, what are the chances of two attractive people sitting next to each other. Not likely. Why not try it yourselves. Visualize yourself, or if you have access to a mirror, look at yourself. Alluring huh? I bet you have to admit, you're tolerably attractive. Who are you kidding? You are foxy. You are a fox. If you were a Quentin Tarantino movie, you would be Foxy Brown. Now tear yourself away from your own adorable self and turn to your right. See that person. Pretty appalling. If it's a man, he's not very handsome is he? If it's a woman, not very pretty is she? When I think of family and friends gathering together to celebrate a joyous occasion, I feel I accomplished my strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. Life before graduation, preparing for graduation day, and commencement day overwhelmed me for reality. Life before graduation was a struggle for me. Graduation was not that far away and actuality was about to strike me like a lightning bolt in the butt. The most significant practice of the year approached us seniors. The staff put us into groups to keep all the seniors in order. We all were divided into sections and labeled after letters and numbers. Soon after, all the senior class entered the auditorium in an orderly fashion. The practice had us recall memories of our freshmen to senior years. I saw a video that showed pictures of my youth to a young adult. I begin to think of the past and how much fun I had growing up. I also thought about how I would never see some of my friends again. After some time, the staff wanted us to practice walking across the stage. I did not quite understand why we needed to do this; I figured they wanted us to see how fast our life would flash in front of our eyes. At last, practice was over and I was able to go pick up my cap and gown. During this time, I thought about the next day and how it would be the end of another chapter in my years. • 57. Drug Court Reflection When I came into Drug Court, I was lost and confused. I thought it was a joke and I thought I could keep doing what I wanted to do. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out to get me. I didn't know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything great. Being in Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team really do care about each and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares and always has time for me no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn't until I was in Drug Court that my life changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence which that didn't matter to me at the time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we are okay, and they really do care about us to take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more of a responsible person. Going to jail was honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me and I needed to be in there. I no longer wanted to be everyone's burden and the family disappointment. I have realized what all I have put my mom through and I am sorry for all the wrong I've done, the sleepless nights, the broken promises, and the stealing of money. I'm sorry for the embarrassment I've caused. I'm sorry for all of the pain, arguments and stress. I want my mom understand that I never intended to hurt her. I have learned a lot about myself that I never knew existed, because the person I used to be is a totally different person than I am today. Me wanting to change is why I changed and I changed everything. If people didn't share the same interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that could rub off on me, I disassociated myself with those people. If you decide to change you have to change everything, not just the areas that are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and some do it cause they are told to but when they are done with their program, they end up going right back to where they started off. Drug Court is not easy and I have sat through a lot of graduations, and I would always hear the graduates say if I can do it so can you and I am sorry to say that is just not true, or everyone would graduate. • 61. Maya Angelou's the Graduation Maya Angelou's The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya Angelou's autobiographical essay "Graduation", was about more than just moving on to another grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she undergoes throughout the story. From the outset of the story there is an overwhelming sense of hope that has enveloped the entire community and school with the upcoming graduation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All her perfect practice was now gone and the strain as they "fumbled for their chairs" began to crush their pattern. The author was overcome with a "presentiment of worse things to come." Don Leavy's speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she has lost control over her future. "The accomplishment was nothing.", she has already been picked to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers was "farcial and presumtous." Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and listen to the garbage filling the room, "listen to charges brought against my color." What had been beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world's prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life into a time that is unpleasant yet not void of hope. "The hush–hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations" disappeared when they were told the cold hard `truth' of their fate that some white man had already decided for them. ... As most of my classmates and friends were filled with excitement, I was experiencing mixed emotions, most of all fear of the unknown as to where I would end up. To be completely honest, I was fearful of leaving Tahlequah and Northeastern State simply due to so many unknown variables as to what steps I would take next in my life. I dreaded the fact that I was leaving Tahlequah, as it was a place that helped me to grown intellectually, emotionally, and physically. The influence of Dr. Kent Lashley had motivated me to become more scholarly and instilled a desire of life–long learning. Emotionally, I was forced to grow, mature, and problem solve without having my parents there to coach me, and as a result of that, I gained confidence and independence in my ability to make it as a young adult. Physically, I grew and learned the importance of proper nutrition, became an avid runner, and earned my 3rd degree black belt before graduating from college. The fear within me was simply not knowing where I would end up teaching with my first job. I had not applied too many places in Oklahoma before my graduation date as I had placed all of my eggs in one basket. Breakfast is indeed a vital part of the day. However, I personally don't care for breakfast food, I never have. Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. have never been my "thing".
