According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, more than 4 million Americans are living with
chronic Hepatitis B (HBV) or chronic HCV, viral infections
that lead to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver
cancer. While antiviral therapy is successful in up to 90
percent of patients, significant barriers to adequate
medical treatment exist for many Americans, and many
people with chronic HBV or HCV do not know they are
infected.
3. In order to raise funds and awareness for
hepatitis and over 100 different types of other
liver diseases, the American Liver Foundation
rallies support for the Liver Life Walk each year.
Liver Life Walks take place all over the country.
On Sunday, May 31, 2015, the New Jersey Liver
Life Walk will kick off at Verona Park, just in time
to wrap up Hepatitis Awareness Month, which
occurs each year in May. Another Liver Life Walk
will take place in New York City at Hudson River
Park on June 7, 2015. To find a walk in your area,
