Moses asked God for His name. God answered, "I am who I am." Since then, the expression, "I am" has referred to the name of God. Jesus used the words "I am" often. In fact, it was how Jesus said "I am" that caused Him to be condemned to death. He was executed, but He came back to life, proving that He is the "I am".

This is what you are to say to the
Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
God also said to Moses, “Say to the
Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your

Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus,
“Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that
these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent
and gave no answer.
