  2. 2. God Gives Us His Words of Eternal Life Luke 10:17-20 Found on page 868 in our guest Bibles. Today’s Scripture:
  3. 3. Rejoicing & Joy
  4. 4. Is it possible to have true, lasting joy ?
  5. 5. “Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there's something greater out there for me? I mean, maybe a lot of people would say, 'Hey man, this is what is.'
  6. 6. I reached my goal, my dream, my life. Me, I think, 'God, it's got to be more than this.' I mean this isn't, this can't be what it's all cracked up to be.” [What’s the answer?] “I wish I knew. I wish I knew.”
  7. 7. “I became great and surpassed all those who were before me in Jerusalem… And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 2
  8. 8. “Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.”King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 2
  9. 9. A Real Cause For Joy ~ Luke 10:17-20 ~
  10. 10. The seventy-two returned with joy, Luke 10:17 saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
  11. 11. And he said to them, “I saw Satan Luke 10:18-19 fall like lightening from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
  12. 12. Q1: When did Jesus see Satan fall like lightening?
  13. 13. Option #1 Satan’s original fall from Heaven
  14. 14. “And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world— he was thrown down to earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” ~ Revelation 12:9
  15. 15. Option #3 Satan’s current fall from power
  16. 16. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” ~ 1 John 3:8
  17. 17. Q2: What does this mean for us?
  18. 18. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith….” ~ 1 Peter 5:8-9
  19. 19. “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” ~ Revelation 12:10
  20. 20. “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” ~ Romans 16:20
  21. 21. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, Luke 10:20 that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

  25. 25. Why does Luke record this account in his historical biography of Jesus? Important Question
  26. 26. True, lasting joy is not found in what you do, but in what has been done for you. Main Idea
  27. 27. Make sure that you know Jesus Christ 1
  28. 28. “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. ~ Jesus of Nazareth in John 17:1-3
  29. 29. “And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” ~ Jesus of Nazareth in John 17:1-3
  30. 30. “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” ~ Jesus of Nazareth in Matthew 7:22
  31. 31. Anchor your joy in knowing Jesus Christ 2
  32. 32. When peace like a river attendeth my way ! When sorrows like ! sea billows roll ! Whatever my lot ! Thou hast taught me to say It is well, it is well ! with my soul!
  33. 33. Though Satan should buffet though trials should come ! Let this blest assurance control! That Christ hath regarded ! my helpless estate ! And hath shed his own blood for my soul
  34. 34. My sin—oh the bliss ! of this glorious thought!—! My sin, not in part ! but the whole ! is nailed to the Cross ! And I bear it now more! Praise the Lord ! Praise the Lord ! O my soul
  35. 35. And Lord haste the day! when my faith shall be sight the clouds be rolled back ! like a scroll ! The trump shall resound! and the Lord shall descend Even so, it is well with my soul
