October 28, 2012, I started to put up a photo album in my Facebook
profile that contained all delightful feedback to me as a person,
husband, father, brother, family man, citizen, physician, physician-
surgeon, physician-educator, physician-administrator, physician-
researcher, etc.

Delighted to receive this feedback on November 7, 2019 from Dr.
Ruvelinda Uy, Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology of Zamboanga City Medical Center. She gave me a most
recent report on the maternal death rate in Region 9 (Zamboanga Area).
In 2015, serving as a consultant under Zuellig Family Foundation, I
coached Zamboanga City Medical Center; Zamboanga Sibugay Medical
Center; Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center; and Zamboanga del Norte
Medical Center on the Maternal Death Control Management System in
Zamboanga Peninsula.

Today, November 20, 2019, we the Philippine General
Hospital surgical colleagues celebrated the birthday of Dr.
Daniel de la Paz, Jr. through a lunch in New World Hotel.
Boying is also retiring compulsorily starting today. He did
not want a “testimonial” celebration. Boying is to me in 5
words / phrases: simple, humble, with integrity, down-to-
earth, man of principles = simple testimonial from me. In
the course of chit-chatting during lunch, Delen, his wife,
told our group that I was instrumental in making Boying,
her husband, become a surgeon. I told the group I can’t
remember the event. Boying in 2014, during my retirement,
also told me about this. Today, Delen affirmed it. Circa 1982
(I was a junior consultant then in the Department of Surgery
in PGH), after the death of his brother, Bobby, when he was
loitering in the College of Medicine, still deciding what to do
after his brother’s assassination, we saw each other and I
advised him to apply for surgery residency. He did. The
rest is history.
I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY TODAY TO KNOW THAT I HAVE
POSITIVELY INFLUENCED A PERSON TO BECOME A
COMPLEAT SURGEON UP TO HIS COMPULSORY
RETIREMENT AGE.

CIRCUMCISION Advocacy.
Dear Dr. Joson,
I have been given your name by Dr. Romeo Lee.
My colleague Steven Svoboda has been in contact with him regarding a the authoring of a report for the UN
Children's Rights Council regarding circumcision of male minors.
Mr. Svoboda is Executive Director of Attorneys for the Rights of the Child and I am the Chair of Intact
Denmark, a Danish organisation working to bring an end to genital modifications of minors without medical
indication.
Svoboda and I are part of a small international team currently working with the Committee on the Rights of
the Child (CRC) of the United Nations. A country report from the Philippines is due January 2021. We hoped
to work with Filipino activists to jointly prepare a report for submission. It does not have to involve a lot of
work on your end (unless you would like it to).
We became aware of you and Dr. Castillo through Dr. Lee, who Svoboda knows from some past symposia
they both attended regarding our work relating to male circumcision. Dr. Lee kindly made him aware of this

having severe cancer pain on a Saturday afternoon. I
