Hi, My name is Taylore Matheson. Today I will be presenting The Young Millionaires program. Are any of you familiar with The Young Millionaires Program? Did any of you have brothers or sisters who entered the program? Can you tell me a little bit about the program?
The program runs from June to August, and it consists of 4 workshops, some group selling events and a celebration night. You must be between the age of 9 to 15 or grade 4 to 9. In the program youth will start, own and run their own business. Youth will also have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of business and have a chance to get involved with their community.
Has anyone ever been in this program before? In order to get you thinking about some business ideas, think about something you do well or you enjoy. Now, see how that can be made into a business. Here are some examples. A hobby like photography can be easily made into a photography business by selling your prints to the customers. Nature lovers can easily transform their love for the outdoors into a profitable business. Lawn care and gardening are two very common youth business ideas. Even sports can become a successful business, by being creative and offering unique sports products to sports fans can result in fantastic results. Be creative!!!
Ideas such as stepping stones, instant photography, home grown chickens and eggs, beach glass ornaments, crazy t-shirts, wood crafts, pet groomer and car wash are a few examples of ideas you could have, but please use your imagination – come up with a unique idea that no one else will think of!
Does anyone here know anyone with their own business? Do they own it by themselves or with a partner? The Young Millionaire Program allows youth to either work by them selves which is called sole proprietorship or own it with a friend which is called partnership . This decision is very crucial in designing your business and must be carefully considered before deciding.
The Young Millionaire Program will offer participants the opportunity to receive up to $100.00 for their business or $150.00 for partnerships. We will also help you plan through workshops and visits and do fun and creative activities to help you sell your product.
As a participant you will be required to use the seed money you receive wisely, attend all workshops and group activities Also treat fellow participants and coordinators with respect.
There will be 3 evening workshops in June and one in August. The workshops are designed to teach you about the following areas of operating a business: Entrepreneurship, business ideas, marking and promotion, customer service, record keeping and public speaking.
We also have a celebration night at the end of the program to celebrate all the hard work we will have done during the summer. It will be a semi-formal event so dress accordingly. Our family and friends, business owners, local politicians and community members can also attend.
Throughout the program you will learn valuable business experience, you will take part in fun activities during the summer, you will learn about money and banking, it will create a summer job for you and you will prove to adults that you are responsible. But remember, you only get out of something what you put into it. So if you try hard and be enthusiastic, I promise you will be successful.
