Classroom Interaction Procedure Response
After checking the previous knowledge of the students,
teacher enters into the topic.
Today we are going to learn how to find the volume of a
square pyramid. Can you give some examples of square
pyramids from our surroundings.
Then the teacher takes a glass chamber which is in the
shape of a square pyramid.
Look at this, this is a square pyramid. We have to find its
volume.
Next the teacher takes a glass chamber which is in the
shape of a square prism and asks the students what is it ?
Students give
examples.
Students answer
correctly.
3. This is a square prism. We all know what is the volume of a
square prism having base area a2 and height h .
What is the volume ?
The volume of a square prism having base area a2 and
height h is a2 h .
Now we are going to find out the volume of square
pyramid using the volume of a square prism. Look at these
two shapes, both of them have same base area and same
height. The only difference is that one is a square prism
and the other is a square pyramid.
The teacher calls a student and asks to find out the volume
of the square prism by measuring its base area and height.
Next the teacher takes a cover of sand and calls another
student and asks to fill the sand in the square pyramid.
The student fills the square pyramid with the sand.
Then the teacher suggests to pour that sand into the square
prism and also to find out the volume of the sand by
measuring its base area and height.
Now the volume of the sand indicates the volume of the
square pyramid.
Then the teacher asks to find out the relation between the
volume of square pyramid and the volume of a square
prism.
The volume of square pyramid is the one third of the
volume of a square prism. That is the volume of a square
pyramid having base area a2 and height h is 1/3 a2 h .
Again the teacher calls another student and asks to repeat
the same process twice.
After this process the square prism becomes filled with the
sand. This shows that the volume of the square prism is
thrice the volume of a square pyramid.
Students answer
correctly.
Student finds the
volume.
Student finds the
volume.
Students find.
Student does.
4. Next the teacher shows the chart.
The volume of a square Pyramid.
The volume of a square pyramid
having base area a2 and height h is
1/3a2h
Teacher allows the students to read the chart loudly.
