instead of transistors. The development of
IC’S allowed future prospects of the
development as they were reliable and
reduced the size of the computers. The

6. This period marched with an active research
and development. LSI (Large scale
integration circuits) and VLSI (Very large
scale integration circuits) were used in the
fourth generations brand of computers. As
a result the microprocessor came into
existence. The computers of this generation
were,

• Star 1000

7. The fifth generation of the computer have had the union of
software and hardware to produce the concept of
artificial intelligence. These computers mark major change
from the earlier generation of computers and are
equipped with reasoning and decision making capability
like human beings. The computers of this generation are,
 Embedded Artificial Intelligence within a database
software.
 Robotics which incorporate an insect like electronic
creatures with a simple intelligence.
 CASE-Computer Aided Software Engineering, which helps
in designing various utility software.
 CAI- Computer Aided Instructions, which acts like a tutorial
software for automatically adjusting the knowledge of an
individual.
