2. What is distribution
●
●
The dictionary definition for distribution is the
action of sharing something out among a
number of recipients.
In terms of film it means the process through
which a film is made available to watch for an
audience by a film distributor.
3. Aspects involved in distribution
●
●
●
●
●
Firstly the Distributor acquires rights to a film, through an
acquisition deal put together by lawyers.
The Distributor than develops a release strategy: Release
Dates and delivery of a master print of the finished film.
Then they present the films to exhibitors and negotiate
agreements to have it seen in cinemas.
They create a marketing campaign, which creates a buzz
amongst the target audience, and launches the film.
Using Marketing materials,promotions, screening, public
relations and social media engage the target audience and
make them definitely want to go see the film.
6. What distribution companies would
be interested
As our film is a fairly low budget, independent
psychological/crime thriller, we would need a distribution
company who generally distributes those kind of films. In the
Uk a company such as momentum pictures may be interested
in our film as they previously distributed Christopher Nolan's
first feature film 'Following' which was an independent thriller.
Another possibility would be Polygram Filmed Entertainment,
who have not only distributed a lot of big budget hollywood
films such as 'Batman Returns' But also smaller independent
British films such as 'Lock stock and two smoking barrels'.
Aswell as these, they also distributed 'Arlington Road' which is
a film that is very similar to ours in many respects.
7. Wide Appeal
I think that our film will not only appeal to UK
audiences, but also to American audiences if it
was to reach the USA. This is because
although it is a British film, it has a very
American feel and most of the themes are that
common of American Thriller's.
