Mount Holyoke Application Essay
My love affair with Mount Holyoke began quite innocuously, as many loves do. In tenth grade I
received some mailings and liked the school simply because they offered my intended majors. In
the last two years, I've found reasons to deepen my adoration day by day.
Mount Holyoke's liberal arts education, of course, is the first thing that comes to mind. It would be a
drastic change from my high school life, which excites me. High school had understandable
requirements and standards, but college should allow more liberty. Studying at Mount Holyoke
would be like discovering a new land. I'd arrive with a purpose: the study of language will be my
Plymouth Rock, my joy, but all the bounty of the land is still at my fingertips, physics to sociology
to economics, I'm free to enrich my life with all Mount Holyoke has to offer.
Quite simply, Mount Holyoke allows students to fill their academic and social lives with subjects
that truly engage them, unhindered by rigidity, which leads not only to a happier student body, but a

I've unbolted myself, open to the meat of the world, sweeping up all the rich morsels it has to
offer me, digesting crumbs of varying flavors; perhaps science, maybe music, but the taste I most
crave is language. Language, whole and firm, seamlessly links all parts of humanity together. And
yet it stands alone too, a discipline it itself. I do not wish to just selfishly devour this information,
with education I can reciprocate, giving to others what the world gave to me. I'm engaged by more
than simply understanding how words work. What engages me is the idea – the culmination of this
give and take – that someday, I can help someone who's never spoken English read this paragraph as

Synthesis Essay: Jim Tressel

Jim Tressel
The Ohio State University is home to one of the best college football teams in America. The
university has a rich history where several famous players and coaches have emerged. One famous
coach in particular is Jim Tressel, who coached at Ohio State from 2001 until 2011. During his
tenure, he had a winning record that came to an abrupt end as a result of multiple ethics violations.
Tressel's full range leadership, critical thinking, team dynamics and ethical behaviors will be
examined in this thesis. Based on the information found in the study guides, Tressel is a visionary
leader who was not ethical. Despite a lapse in ethics, he led the Buckeyes for nearly a decade with a
vision to win, and he did just that.
Visionary Leader Using the Full Range Leadership and Team Dynamics lessons, it's easy to see why
Tressel is a visionary leader. He took over for the Buckeyes after a loosing season and multiple losses
to Michigan. In the land of Buck–nuts, winning on Saturday after Thanksgiving against Michigan is
the most important game of the year. According to the Barnes Center for Enlisted Education, Team
Dynamics, mission effectiveness is defined as "when the team process is executed effectively, a
team can be used to pool the ideas and experiences of its members in search for a collective
outcome." (BCEE, 2016d) Tressel not only took a loosing

I am writing this statement to apply for admission to the Ph.D. program in English at Kent State
University. After earning my Master's Degree in English and Comparative Literature from Tours
University in France, I worked for nine years as an English and English as a second language
instructor in higher and secondary education institutions in France, the Middle East and in the state
of Ohio. Now I have decided to take my professional career to another level by undertaking a
doctoral program that will prepare and capacitate me to teach English language and literature in
higher education institutions.
The decision to apply to the Ph.D. program at Kent State came after a careful exploration of what the
English graduate program provides in terms of research and professional development opportunities
to its graduate students. Opportunities that promote personal and professional growth, allowing
graduate students to acquire theoretical knowledge in their respective courses and to garner practical
experiences in teaching undergraduate courses. Another factor that motivated my decision is the fact
that your doctoral program offers a concentration in English literature. Finally, being a resident of
Ohio has also motivated my decision to apply to a reputable in–state University that offers quality
education and promotes diversity.
Concerning the choice of literature as a concentration, I have had a special interest in poetry and
modern drama since my undergraduate studies, but

Two of my long–range goals are to spread the joy of playing music and to make a difference in this
world through research and development of environment–friendly technology. Continuance of my
education in music is essential for me to become more proficient as a musician, and through this
journey I will have more opportunities to share the joy I experience through music. Likewise,

I plan on putting together a small jazz ensemble for performing gigs, and Bozeman as a small
college town presents multiple opportunities for hiring a small jazz group for background music.
Creation of said jazz ensemble would further my capabilities as a leader as not only would I be
putting together this group but would also work towards getting word out about the group across
town and to people looking to hire. Thus I would be furthering both my leadership skills and my
ability to network which are both crucial skills to later career development after college, and I
would be a step closer towards achieving my goal of spreading happiness through music.
On top of that, Bozeman has beautiful campgrounds, adventurous hiking trails, and fantastic skiing.
The outdoor life offered by Bozeman would further my academic interests as I would be studying in
a location well known for it's beautiful environment. As a student who wants to protect said
environment, studying at MSU where I can continue to fall in love with the great outdoors would
encourage my passion for protecting the environment and consequently push me as a scholar to

My Experience At Lakeland Community College
Looking back on every class, every book, every professor, every experience and every friend that has
brought me to where I am today; graduating with my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies
with a concentration in applied communication from Kent State University, I feel overwhelmed with
gratitude. I am going to demonstrate my reflections on my learning experiences, the connections
between my coursework, internship experience, and growth as a communicator while focusing on
the power that education has in my life.
My journey began at Lakeland Community College (LCC) in Kirtland, Ohio in 2011. I started
taking general courses, not knowing which direction would be the best for me to go into. This
would be my greatest obstacle to overcome, but I knew with certainty that I would soon find out
which direction to set sail in. I spent two years at LCC and gained confidence in my abilities and
suddenly realized my great potential through all the doors that education started to open for me. I
had an amazing opportunity to enter a speaking competition at LCC and placed in first. I realized
when my goal was to give the audience an impactful message and was not focused on winning, that
communication was one of my strongest assets and greatest passion. Discovering this was a primary
blessing and actually winning the competition became a secondary delight.
It was also at LCC that I became conversant in American Sign Language, made new friends,
established excellent rapport with the

Montclair State University, home of the Red Hawks has always been a college that has interested
me. As a kid, I often would visit the beautiful campus to watch baseball games at the Yogi Berra

the only thing that caught my interest, after doing some research I found out that Montclair State

ability to make the change. Growing up I had a lot of responsibilities. Going to school and playing

had a younger sister who I often had to take care of whenever my parents left us alone. I

Situational Leadership Theory Essay
Many studies looked at behavioral styles, the two important studies are the Ohio State group and the
University of Michigan group [11].
Ohio state group– The researchers sought to identify the independent dimensions of leadership
behavior. And over 1000 dimensions were narrowed down to two important categories initiating
structures and consideration. Initiating structure is defined as the extent to which a leader defines
and structures his and his subordinate's roles. Consideration is the extent to which a person can have
a job relationship with mutual trust, respect for sub ordinates ideas and regards for their feelings [11].
University of Michigan Studies– The study group found out two dimensions of leadership behavior
employee oriented and production oriented. Employee oriented leader focused more on employee
relationship and intrapersonal relations. Production orientation focuses on technical and task aspects
of the job. But the researchers strongly favored employee oriented behavior as it brought in greater
group productivity and employee satisfaction [11].
Situational Leadership Theory
Hersey and Blanchard proposed situational leadership theory, according to this theory leadership
depends on individual situation and no particular leadership can be defined as the best. This theory
has two pillars; leadership style and maturity level of the leader.

Pay Up
The world of sports has grown larger than life over the past century, especially in college. Being a
collegiate athlete is, without question, the hardest athletic profession in the world. Not only are
students devoted to their sport, which requires an obscene amount of time of preparation, but they
are also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course there
are the great memories, friendships made, "free education", or national championships, but are theses
students receiving their fair share? Should college athletes be paid? It is a question that has been

The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to
mention the pay; $0. Student–athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet they
have little to show for it.
This isn't an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard.
The reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion dollar
industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university such as
Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy Ohio
Stadium at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one Ohio
State football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the
university receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major
contributors to the lucrative business of college athletics.
From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from
major tournament bids, colligate athletes don't receive any of this money, which is ironic
considering the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn't
they be rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of?

Although trait and skill theories have ideas that can be intertwined and can be compared
to one another, style leadership theory differs quite drastically. Instead of focusing on who the
leader is, if there is some type of genetic makeup to leaders, or whether skills can be learned,
style leadership focuses on what those leaders do, not who they are. Style theory refers to three
main theories or styles of leadership. These theories are known as the Ohio State University
studies, the Michigan University studies, and the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid.
In 1945, a group of researchers at Ohio State University sought to identify the observable
behaviors of leaders instead of focusing of their individual traits. To document their findings,
they generated a list of 150 statements designed to measure nine different dimensions of
leadership behavior. These statements were used to develop the Leaders ' Behavior Description
Questionnaire (LBDQ). The surveys were then given to members of a group, who were asked to
respond to a series of statements about the leader of their group. Respondents of the LBDQ–rated
leaders on how frequently they engaged in a certain behavior. The results of the survey
showed that two main behaviors, consideration and initiating structure. Consideration is how the
leader shows concern for members of the group. These leaders treated everyone as his/her equal and
were friendly and approachable. Initiation structure means the leader

Ohio State University Application Essay

  • 1. Mount Holyoke Application Essay My love affair with Mount Holyoke began quite innocuously, as many loves do. In tenth grade I received some mailings and liked the school simply because they offered my intended majors. In the last two years, I've found reasons to deepen my adoration day by day. Mount Holyoke's liberal arts education, of course, is the first thing that comes to mind. It would be a drastic change from my high school life, which excites me. High school had understandable requirements and standards, but college should allow more liberty. Studying at Mount Holyoke would be like discovering a new land. I'd arrive with a purpose: the study of language will be my Plymouth Rock, my joy, but all the bounty of the land is still at my fingertips, physics to sociology to economics, I'm free to enrich my life with all Mount Holyoke has to offer. Quite simply, Mount Holyoke allows students to fill their academic and social lives with subjects that truly engage them, unhindered by rigidity, which leads not only to a happier student body, but a ...show more content... I've unbolted myself, open to the meat of the world, sweeping up all the rich morsels it has to offer me, digesting crumbs of varying flavors; perhaps science, maybe music, but the taste I most crave is language. Language, whole and firm, seamlessly links all parts of humanity together. And yet it stands alone too, a discipline it itself. I do not wish to just selfishly devour this information, with education I can reciprocate, giving to others what the world gave to me. I'm engaged by more than simply understanding how words work. What engages me is the idea – the culmination of this give and take – that someday, I can help someone who's never spoken English read this paragraph as easily as you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Synthesis Essay : The Ohio State University Synthesis Essay: Jim Tressel MSgt Greg Frank Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy Jim Tressel The Ohio State University is home to one of the best college football teams in America. The university has a rich history where several famous players and coaches have emerged. One famous coach in particular is Jim Tressel, who coached at Ohio State from 2001 until 2011. During his tenure, he had a winning record that came to an abrupt end as a result of multiple ethics violations. Tressel's full range leadership, critical thinking, team dynamics and ethical behaviors will be examined in this thesis. Based on the information found in the study guides, Tressel is a visionary leader who was not ethical. Despite a lapse in ethics, he led the Buckeyes for nearly a decade with a vision to win, and he did just that. Visionary Leader Using the Full Range Leadership and Team Dynamics lessons, it's easy to see why Tressel is a visionary leader. He took over for the Buckeyes after a loosing season and multiple losses to Michigan. In the land of Buck–nuts, winning on Saturday after Thanksgiving against Michigan is the most important game of the year. According to the Barnes Center for Enlisted Education, Team Dynamics, mission effectiveness is defined as "when the team process is executed effectively, a team can be used to pool the ideas and experiences of its members in search for a collective outcome." • 3. I am writing this statement to apply for admission to the Ph.D. program in English at Kent State University. After earning my Master's Degree in English and Comparative Literature from Tours University in France, I worked for nine years as an English and English as a second language instructor in higher and secondary education institutions in France, the Middle East and in the state of Ohio. Now I have decided to take my professional career to another level by undertaking a doctoral program that will prepare and capacitate me to teach English language and literature in higher education institutions. The decision to apply to the Ph.D. program at Kent State came after a careful exploration of what the English graduate program provides in terms of research and professional development opportunities to its graduate students. Opportunities that promote personal and professional growth, allowing graduate students to acquire theoretical knowledge in their respective courses and to garner practical experiences in teaching undergraduate courses. Another factor that motivated my decision is the fact that your doctoral program offers a concentration in English literature. Finally, being a resident of Ohio has also motivated my decision to apply to a reputable in–state University that offers quality education and promotes diversity. Concerning the choice of literature as a concentration, I have had a special interest in poetry and modern drama since my undergraduate studies, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Thus I would be furthering both my leadership skills and my ability to network which are both crucial skills to later career development after college, and I would be a step closer towards achieving my goal of spreading happiness through music. On top of that, Bozeman has beautiful campgrounds, adventurous hiking trails, and fantastic skiing. The outdoor life offered by Bozeman would further my academic interests as I would be studying in a location well known for it's beautiful environment. As a student who wants to protect said environment, studying at MSU where I can continue to fall in love with the great outdoors would encourage my passion for protecting the environment and consequently push me as a scholar to reach out for my goal of developing more environment–friendly Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My Experience At Lakeland Community College Looking back on every class, every book, every professor, every experience and every friend that has brought me to where I am today; graduating with my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a concentration in applied communication from Kent State University, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude. I am going to demonstrate my reflections on my learning experiences, the connections between my coursework, internship experience, and growth as a communicator while focusing on the power that education has in my life. My journey began at Lakeland Community College (LCC) in Kirtland, Ohio in 2011. I started taking general courses, not knowing which direction would be the best for me to go into. This would be my greatest obstacle to overcome, but I knew with certainty that I would soon find out which direction to set sail in. I spent two years at LCC and gained confidence in my abilities and suddenly realized my great potential through all the doors that education started to open for me. I had an amazing opportunity to enter a speaking competition at LCC and placed in first. I realized when my goal was to give the audience an impactful message and was not focused on winning, that communication was one of my strongest assets and greatest passion. Discovering this was a primary blessing and actually winning the competition became a secondary delight. It was also at LCC that I became conversant in American Sign Language, made new friends, established excellent rapport with the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Being a collegiate athlete is, without question, the hardest athletic profession in the world. Not only are students devoted to their sport, which requires an obscene amount of time of preparation, but they are also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course there are the great memories, friendships made, "free education", or national championships, but are theses students receiving their fair share? Should college athletes be paid? The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to mention the pay; $0. Student–athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet they have little to show for it. This isn't an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard. The reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion dollar industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university such as Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy Ohio Stadium at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one Ohio State football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the university receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major contributors to the lucrative business of college athletics. From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from major tournament bids, colligate athletes don't receive any of this money, which is ironic considering the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn't they be rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of? Why Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Although trait and skill theories have ideas that can be intertwined and can be compared to one another, style leadership theory differs quite drastically. Instead of focusing on who the leader is, if there is some type of genetic makeup to leaders, or whether skills can be learned, style leadership focuses on what those leaders do, not who they are. Style theory refers to three main theories or styles of leadership. These theories are known as the Ohio State University studies, the Michigan University studies, and the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid. In 1945, a group of researchers at Ohio State University sought to identify the observable behaviors of leaders instead of focusing of their individual traits. To document their findings, they generated a list of 150 statements designed to measure nine different dimensions of leadership behavior. These statements were used to develop the Leaders ' Behavior Description Questionnaire (LBDQ). The surveys were then given to members of a group, who were asked to respond to a series of statements about the leader of their group. Respondents of the LBDQ–rated leaders on how frequently they engaged in a certain behavior. The results of the survey showed that two main behaviors, consideration and initiating structure. Consideration is how the leader shows concern for members of the group. These leaders treated everyone as his/her equal and were friendly and approachable. Initiation structure means the leader Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A & M University Application Essay At the time I was applying to grad school, I knew only vaguely what I wanted and I had nearly made up my mind to attend the University of Washington in Seattle. But the scholarship offer from Texas A&M University and the realization that the Indian government does not recognize one–year graduate degrees (as is the case with University of Washington) made me reconsider my decision. Ultimately, I chose to attend A&M for my graduate studies in Construction Management, still unaware of the full ramifications of my decision. It is safe to say now that I am positively in love with College Station, its relatively mild weather and its friendly residents. I have made several truly wonderful friends over the last semester. At the time of accepting the offer letter from A&M I did not know about the immense industry support that my department enjoyed, which translated into superior facilities and opportunities for the students. The fact that it is an R1 research University and provides excellent opportunities for research to all its students is an enormous bonus – it will make my transition into PhD that much easier and I will be well prepared when the time comes. I have made excellent progress academically. Initially I was doubtful whether I would be able to cope with the rigor of grad school and doing a thesis. However with the help of the chair of my research advisory committee, who...show more content... In addition to being able to interact with students and thus giving valuable training for my future when I hope to be a professor, the hours I spend in my professor's office has given me the opportunity to become better acquainted with my professors. This is significant for me because, where I come from, teachers are revered and we are taught to approach them with academic queries only, and that too, if unavoidable. I prefer the system better here, where one maintains a healthy, friendly relation with your Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Once as a small child, I flew first class with my mom. I was too young to remember where we were flying, or even how old I was. What I do remember is being in invited by the pilot into the cockpit, and seeing the sky with the top of clouds below. From then on, I wanted flight to be a significant part of my future. At first I thought I would be a pilot, but though my high school engineering class, I became deeply interested with the design of engineering. That interest in the design process combined with my deep fascination with aerodynamics, leading to my major: aerospace engineering (aeronautics). Along with engineering, I have a deep interest in sustainability and environmental protection. Most of my life was spent on tropical islands, being born in the Philippines and schooled in...show more content... As a group, we work to find applications of the newly invented 3D printed "polymagnets" by Correlated Magnetics. Currently, we are designing a magnetically suspended flywheel for satellites using the special properties of polymagnets. The flywheel will take advantage of the precision of and flexibility of the 3D printed magnets be frictionless and introduce less moving parts, and therefore less mechanical complexity, into the design of satellite flywheels. In the team, I work with two others in designing the geometries of the magnetic design to be 3D printed, and also the implementing an axial flux motor into the design of the flywheel in order to be controlled by the satellite to adjust its Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Arizona State University Application Essay I am an international student studying in Arizona State University. Although I am studying abroad now, I feel like being at home here. It is an enthusiastically welcome environment. There are many international students studying in the university with diversity cultures displaying. I have made friends with many awesome people who are from all over the world. Talking with them lets me open my eyes to America. I love studying in Arizona State University here. One thing I have been affected by them are that I pay more attention to make up myself both outside and inside. It is important to make me in a good mood everyday and help me build self confidence, even making a small and common change like a new cloth style which is better fit in, or starting to spend some time in gym. It is not a small change in make up, but also a life style change which is more positive and hopeful. So for the rest time, I start to go to gym shaping good body and easing my pressure from study. Tutoring centers help me a lot that make me feel free to ask questions. Peer tutors always are patient and intelligent. I found it save my time with the help of them, even though they are students, they explain the problems in an amazing way and it is better than spending a long time to work it out by myself. I have changed a lot since I came to Arizona State University. I become more strongly self control and scheduled. For instance, I like staying up at night, relaxing, watching movies, chatting with family or friends. However, since I have a class in the morning, I start to give up doing anything late or whatever make me excited at night, and I learn to sort out all my stuff that I need next day and packed them in the first night avoiding being in a hurry next Get more content on HelpWriting.net
