Introduction to Psychology Essay examples
Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his
concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his
environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they
behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and
the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words
ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So,
generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. But , since the psychologists work on
the problems of the personal, family, school, professional and social life, we could say, more...show

The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the
way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are
behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are
behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can
explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the
knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society
leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes
we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty.
Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious,
unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic
researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very
difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is
normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is
not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a
behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place .

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire
as an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone
in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the "vampire" icon and its use of
cutting–edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find
this book appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study
Nosferatu, and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise
had.
Genre: Scholarly...show more content...
She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the
introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes
the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she
discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their
expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they
presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker's lawsuit
against the Prana film company damaged the movie's reputation and popularity. From there she
describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy
of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As
the chapter progresses, Massaccesi's description of the plot includes lengthy and in–depth analyses of
each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she
considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and
characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other
aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole,
applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder
associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very
clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden
to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class
activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There
are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these
assignments is writing definitions down for new words...show more content...
Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just
a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students
are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework
compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers
don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more

Essay on Volcanoes
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are natural phenomena which are on the Earth's surface through which molten rock and
gases escape from below the surface (Tarbuck, 139). These volcanoes are very interesting to
observe and to study because of their amazing occurrences and majestic lava eruptions. Volcanoes
have been studied ever since the beginning of mankind and the word "volcano" is thought to be
derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy whose name in turn
originates from Vulcan, the name of a god of fire in Roman mythology. Consisting of several types,
volcanoes can extrude several forms of magma and can also release multiple gases. These extruded
materials can affect the Earth's structure and atmosphere.
There are...show more content...
Last but not least, composite volcanoes also make up some of the earth's surface. Composite
volcanoes have a conical shape, with a steep summit area and gradually sloping flanks, and are
nearly symmetrical in structure (Tarbuck, 141). These volcanoes release silica–rich and gaseous
magma that is highly viscous and travels very short distances. These three types of volcanoes that
occupy the earth have seemingly different physical characteristics and behavioral changes.
A volcanic eruption is one of the most dangerous and eventful natural disasters that can take place.
During these eruptions, several factors are taken into account. Each type of volcano discussed above
has a different form of lava: one's might be highly fluid and the other might be very viscous. Lava
can take many shapes as it is extruded from a volcano. One such form is that of pahoehoe.
Usually common on the Hawaiian volcanoes, pahoehoe is a form of lava which is smooth and
ropy and causes by the congealment of lava as it is released from the volcano (Williams, 32).
Another form of lava is one that is named aa. This lava consists of jumbles of rough, clinkery, and
spinose fragments, ranging from small chips to blocks measuring meters on a side (Williams, 37).
Aa flows are cool and thick and can advance at rates between 5 and 50 meters per hour (Tarbuck,
145). Lava can also take a block formation

Sports medicine Essay example
Sports medicine Today in sports athletes endure many mental and physical obstacles from there
competitive environment. Many of today's best athletes work with sports psychologists to help them
handle the pressures found in this competitive atmosphere. One question that athletes ask is, why
cant they play in big games as well as they anticipate themselves doing? Sports psychologists feel
that spending all their time on body conditioning and athletic skills will not ensure that athletes reach
their peak performance.

accomplish whatever it wants. Coaches and psychologists believe your mind determines, how fast,
you can achieve your goals.

your heart and mind, your have already classified your self as a failure!
In Today's field of work, sports psychologist are trying to use different techniques to improve
athletes' performance. After comprehensive research and development, psychologists came up with
the following findings: first, athletes who view stressful situations as a threat, produce hormones and
chemicals in their body that can impair physical and mental performance. (Harry Hurt, 1996 p.12)
Second, athletes who meet as a challenge create a rush of adrenaline and sugar inside their body.
According to medical sources this is called a natural high, which is responsible for athletes
exceeding in their performance. Additionally,
James Loehr believed that, the findings mentioned above are difficult to

How to Make Fruit Smoothies Essay
Ever wish there were a delicious smoothie somewhere to buy at an inexpensive price? Well there is,
and there is no need to go out! Read this section on how to make fruit smoothies and make a
scrumptious smoothie.
To make a good smoothie, the materials needed are: about Вѕ cup of juice, or milk, about 2 cups of
fresh or frozen fruits, ВЅ of yogurt, and finally, 6 cubes of ice if the fruits aren't frozen. A blender
that can crush ice well and that has a secure lid is also required. Unlike other recipes, a smoothie
recipe doesn't have to use exact measurements. To have a better tasting smoothie, use frozen fruits.
Freeze fresh fruits, or buy them pre–frozen. If the fruits are too big, cut them in half. Also, peel the
fruits before loading...show more content...
To make the smoothie healthier, include a scoop of whey or soy protein powder. For a sweet
smoothie, use pineapple juice for the liquid. Something creamy? Try milk. Try using different
flavored yogurts and combinations of fruits. Now that all the material is prepared, get cooking!
Gather all the ingredients and put them in the blender. To make things easier, put the fruits first, and
then the milk or the juice. The liquid will help the fruits melt a bit, making it easier to pure. Finally,
add the yogurt. When all the ingredients are in the blender, turn it on, using the liquefy or puree
setting. Depending on the blender, wait about 30 seconds and turn it off so that the fruits will be
mixed up well with the liquid and the yogurt. Make sure to put the cap on the blender and watch out
for the cutter! It hurts if you cut yourself on it.
When the ice cubes stop blending, turn off the blender and see if the smoothie is clear and if there
are no chunks of fruits inside. Get a spoon and move it around in the blender to check. If the
smoothie looks too thin add more fruits or ice and this should thicken it up. If it looks too thick, add
more liquid in it. Adding yogurt or a banana will thicken the smoothie, but don't add both unless
another watery fruit is used in the smoothie.
Once this step is finished, pour the cool concoction into a large glass. For maximum health benefit,
drink the smoothie straight away. If there is too much, then freeze the smoothie. A frozen

  • 1. Introduction to Psychology Essay examples Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty. Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious, unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place . Get more content on HelpWriting.net

She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker's lawsuit against the Prana film company damaged the movie's reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses, Massaccesi's description of the plot includes lengthy and in–depth analyses of each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork. Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Essay on Volcanoes Volcanoes Volcanoes are natural phenomena which are on the Earth's surface through which molten rock and gases escape from below the surface (Tarbuck, 139). These volcanoes are very interesting to observe and to study because of their amazing occurrences and majestic lava eruptions. Volcanoes have been studied ever since the beginning of mankind and the word "volcano" is thought to be derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy whose name in turn originates from Vulcan, the name of a god of fire in Roman mythology. Consisting of several types, volcanoes can extrude several forms of magma and can also release multiple gases. These extruded materials can affect the Earth's structure and atmosphere. There are...show more content... Last but not least, composite volcanoes also make up some of the earth's surface. Composite volcanoes have a conical shape, with a steep summit area and gradually sloping flanks, and are nearly symmetrical in structure (Tarbuck, 141). These volcanoes release silica–rich and gaseous magma that is highly viscous and travels very short distances. These three types of volcanoes that occupy the earth have seemingly different physical characteristics and behavioral changes. Each type of volcano discussed above has a different form of lava: one's might be highly fluid and the other might be very viscous. Lava can take many shapes as it is extruded from a volcano. One such form is that of pahoehoe. Usually common on the Hawaiian volcanoes, pahoehoe is a form of lava which is smooth and ropy and causes by the congealment of lava as it is released from the volcano (Williams, 32). Another form of lava is one that is named aa. This lava consists of jumbles of rough, clinkery, and spinose fragments, ranging from small chips to blocks measuring meters on a side (Williams, 37).
