1. Professional Development Reflection Paper
REFLECTION ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACADAMIC PROGRESSION
OVER THE COURSE OF YEAR TWO
This essay is aimed to reflect on my professional development and academic progression during the
second year of my studies at the university. I shall use Gibbs (1988) reflective model in this piece of
work
Description
The academic year has been very intensive and ran quicker than I imagined, however, it has been a
very challenging but exciting both academically and on practice. Lectures have been well organised
and delivered compared to year one where on many occasions there were disruptions due to last
minute change of lecture theatres or change of timetable. We had equal sessions of fieldlearning and
theory at the school.

We also had the opportunity to listen to patients with long term conditions during theory session.
Feelings
I feel the year two modules have helped shape my perception about nursing practice. Being on
placement in a mental health/learning disability hospital in module three and in gastro ward in
module four have consolidated my learning and experience about patients with long term condition. I
feel more compassionate and more caring for patients and their needs.
I feel that I have learned a lot during the second year of my studies.
I have learned to communicate better with both my colleagues, patients and their families and how
to develop therapeutic relationships. I have also improved in academic writing. I feel I have made
positive impact on both patients and their families during module three and four placements. I safely
practiced the clinical skills acquired during theory and on placement and have developed more
confidence in delivering these skills.
Evaluation
As a learning disability nursing student, I have learned about the importance of the nurse's role in
empowerment and health promotion with individuals with learning disability. The modules have
helped develop my knowledge and skills on working in partnership with individuals and their
families/carers using person–centred approach. making information accessible to them.
In placement, I was able to promote Mr. Alex (pseudonym) , a

2. Essay On Professional Development
I'm drained by the end of the week at Migrant Education. Being an assistant teacher is tough when
you're dealing with 9–11 year old kids. They're so hyperactive and want to play constantly.
Sometimes they enjoy jumping on my back and expecting piggy back rides. I would come into
PD sore and sleepy but I usually fake the act and try my best to get over it. Dont get me wrong, I
wish professional developments started a little later so I can get more sleep. I mean who isnt tired
after working all week? Despite my complaining, for the past 3 professional developments, it has
become an enriching learning experience. Here I am, sitting on my bed repeating the same
question over and over again, "what did I learn in these professional developments?" I was given a

I tend to forget a lot of things unless it happens consistently. Then I realize that we keep having
discussions about identifications; who we are, how we are seen, and what is being thought
about from another point of view. One of the topics that constantly emerges into conversation is
having self knowledge. We're always going over on what we are capable of doing and what can
we do to improve our abilities. It shows that we should always be aware of what we do when it
comes to a workplace. We should always be careful on how we present ourselves to when it
comes to meeting someone new. I learned how to speak up once in a while and not be afraid,
although I still get these little anxiety attacks and a ball of nervousness when it comes down to it. I
don't understand why I am still nervous to talk out loud in PDs but at work, I can talk all day about
lesson plans and what would benefit the students. I also learned that I absolutely hate getting dressed
up for PDs because

The overall education level of the population around the world has been increasing, and more
people entering the work force have a college degree. Here are some professional employment tips
to help recent college graduates to stand out when searching for a job.
"The Real World" Recent graduate students have a hard time adjusting to the "real world" because
the way they behaved in college should not be carried on to the work force. The most common
mistake inexperienced job seekers make is dressing inappropriately in an interview, where first
impressions are critical. According to Tuhro, "You should dress within the appropriate parameters of
the title you are interviewing for, with a touch of personal style" (Tuhro, 2014). People judge others

However, there are still a lot of job opportunities for people, and they need to find the correct and
smart way to look for a job. People should put effort into looking for a job and take time to prepare
for the job interview. Then, during the interview they should dress appropriately and advertise their
strengths and avoid their weaknesses. Lastly, people should cover up all the private information of
themselves on social media and use the Internet as a platform to expand their network and brand
themselves nicely. After doing all the tips above, people's chances for getting a job is

Abstract Information technology, or IT for short, is the backbone of today's advanced technology.
Network and computer systems administrators design, install, and support business's computer
systems. Responsibilities include maintaining a LAN or WAN, Internet and intranet structures.
These IT professionals maintain network hardware/software, analyze and repair problems, and
oversee networks to make sure it is available to users. Administrators tailor the company's computer

So, why have I chosen this career? What sparked my interest? What do you have to know? What
do people do at this job? These are common questions high school students ask as they make their
career choices. Sometimes it can be helpful for a student to speak with someone in the field of
particular personal interest to base a career choice on. Since you are reading this paper, it can be
assumed you are seeking guidance towards a career as a network and computer systems
administrator.
Let us take a brief moment to answer these questions before we get into the nitty–gritty of this
exciting career. I chose this career for a wide variety of reasons, but the main reason was a natural
aptitude for computers. Early on I discovered I had a natural ability to use computers and
understood how they worked as stand alone units as well as how they interacted on a network. My
interest was sparked with much the same reason. I thought to myself about 13 years ago that it
would be nice to have a computer in the house to keep track of expenses and maybe play some
solitaire or space invaders on; the hottest gaming console at the time was the SegaВ® Genesisв„ў.

If ideas between managers and workers are shared often I strongly believe the entire atmosphere
would be more understanding. Managers need good communication skills mainly because they are
the example setters. If you bring good motivation it will show when employees carry out their duties
ensuring effective information across the organization. To me a manager needs to make decisions
fairly, act rationally also gaining relevant information to overcome any obstacles. Shortcomings and
problems should be solved using a strong feedback system. Managers need to be able to maintain
proper relationships with internal and external parts of the organization.

Television, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, Notice Boards, Bill Boards, Film, Internet and

Vertically, horizontally and diagonally are very effective forms of communication. Every medium

Day to day interactions with all the relevant parties in business transactions calls for the individual
parties to give due diligence to upholding of ethical behaviour. Ethics, generally defined as the norms
of conduct that extricate between unacceptable and acceptable conduct, plays a crucial role in
decision–making and to facilitate business transactions efficiently (Brecher, 2013). By being ethical,
one is able to obtain a personal advantage, approval and inner benefit given the fact that, virtue

Another potential problem that may arise is erosion of the company's good reputation as a result of
faulty motor vehicles that one of the company's dealers might sell to the customers. In order to make
good ethical decisions in the future, it is first important that as an individual, I have to understand the
firm's organization values. These include evaluating the standards of behaviour that are of most
significance to the company and always adhering to these values even in situations that would place
me at a competitive disadvantage. This is informed by the fact that ethical action is a consequence of
physiological processes: recognition, moral character, motivation and moral focus. Re–evaluation of
possible courses of actions before taking a particular decision is also important. This is important
since it helps the decision maker reflect on the effect of decisions on the fundamental principles of
ethics, the decision maker and all the stake–holders involved. Branding personal reputation as a
highly respected ethical leader can be achieved by making use of the information revolution
presented by social media. This avenue provides a ready platform to issue clarifications that are

The statement later goes on to explain 'The government's agenda' in 'achieving the best possible
practice from every classroom practitioner is the key.' This is a fair statement and best possible
practice should be what we as professionals are working toward. However: 'the Government is
approaching this aim through heavily managerialist institutions, with formal mechanisms of
inspection, assessment and appraisal, measuring performance and setting targets, and offering
rewards for those who improve and sanctions for those who do not.'(ATL 2005, p.2). It is this
approach by the government, over the years, which has shifted the views on teacher
professionalism. The erosion of creativity and autonomy reduces the need to reflect and as the ATL
states 'Review and reflection may be pointless in an environment where the teacher is or feels
powerless to innovate, where decisions and changes are always imposed from above.' (ATL 2005,
p3). There is a further question that requires our attention, and it is that of professionalism within the
Further Education sector. Spenceley (2006,p.289) highlights 'the much contested concept of
professionalism in the context of Further Education (FE).' She explains how professionalism in
teaching, other than in the PCET sector, is 'inculcated and fostered' by stating 'Most entrants come to
the profession following a long period of higher education focusing on a specific,

Professional competence can mean various things to different people. Competency in any career or
profession has many basic requirements that are learned in a classroom environment as well as many
essential elements that must be learned through formal, on–the–job training in order to acquire the
knowledge and skills necessary to function adequately as a professional in a workplace setting.
Competency in the counseling field is not a 'once learned, always known' type of knowledge; it

excerpts from various Codes of Ethics give short, general references to practitioner's competence

Counselors, it states; "Marriage and family therapists do not attempt to diagnose or treat problems
beyond the scope of their training and abilities. They do not engage in specialized counseling
interventions or techniques unless they have received appropriate training and preparation in the

regularly practices outside his or her area of professional competence should be considered
unethical. Determination of professional competence should be made by peer review boards or
other appropriate bodies." (Corey, Corey, & Callanan, 2011, 2007 , Eighth Edition) Although the
actual definitions of "beyond the scope of their training and abilities" and "practices outside his or

11. I Am A Professional Teacher Essay
To be a professional teacher, it takes skill to train young minds. Education is extremely important to
go through. Teachers have many different philosophies to choose from when teaching in a
classroom. Out of the five philosophies, I ranked the highest in Essentialism and Progressivism. Both
of these philosophies are taught entirely different from each other. Essentialism is teacher–centered
learning and expresses the teaching by the core curriculum. Progressivism is student–centered
learning and expresses the teaching by doing group work. I believe that a classroom should be
divided between using both philosophies. I believe that a teacher should stick to the core curriculum,
but a teacher should also let the students learn by working together in small groups. The teacher is
still giving lectures in front of the classroom, but there is still group work throughout the week. From
experience, I think a combination of both would make the perfect classroom setting. When a
classroom is both teacher–centered and student–centered, students will gain a better education in my
opinion. The purpose of education is to further the knowledge of a student. Education is meant to
teach students the essentials of education and to create a better understanding of real–world
experiences. From the philosophies, I agree with, education is working towards students with their
knowledge and living in society. Education needs to help students to not only become smarter, but

Naturally, my eagerness to learn came about at a very young age. I always wanted to know how the

program where students in high school had access to college classes on a college campus while
receiving college credits. While I was there, I earned a Certificate in Computer Science from

Most of the students that go through my classroom will become parents one day, and I want them

Title: Using examples relevant to your discipline, define professional identity as it relates to health
and human service delivery and discuss how industry, professional and quality agencies guide the

become a necessary concept to employees who are working in a health and human–serviced
environment because it comprehends the image and perceptions of individuals that has based on

"To write is human, to write well is divine" (Anonymous, 2010). So, why is it important to write
professionally and what constitutes professional writing? Contrary to popular belief, professional
writing is not merely being paid to write; although, professional writers are paid well. In short,
professional writing is writing at the next level with a purpose. It is important to show the basic
aspects of professional writing (knowing the audience, knowing the purpose, being persuasive, and
getting to the point) so that one is able to accomplish the act of communicating effectively and
looking professional in doing so.
Let's not confuse professional writing (business writing) with recreational writing (creative writing).

Writing the message with the audience in mind will not only help shape the style of the message
itself but the tone in which it is presented as well as the formality of the language used. Tone is the
main tool used to effectively and efficiently sell the message and its purpose. Advanced word usage
(conversational yet professional, positive, courteous, inclusive and familiar to the reader) is
important in writing. Use of active or passive voice, emphasis through style, coherent sentence
structure, coherent paragraph structure and placement of the main idea within the message are all
used to set the tone and shape the readers frame of mind. Tone also dictates the clarity in which the
message is delivered. The most important thing is to format the document and design the content of
your message with the reader in mind so that they will understand the message clearly and quickly
as well as accept the message readily.
Professional writing is not industry specific or medium specific. For that matter it is not just for

Professionalism is defined as one's conduct at work. The quality of professionalism is not restricted
to those in occupations with high level of education or high earnings. Any worker regardless of
their level of education or occupation should demonstrate a high level of this trait (About.com,
2013). Acting professionally at workplace makes others think of you as reliable, respectful, and

The professional person should always tell the truth and are upfront about where things stand.
Consistency, admitting and correcting the mistakes, and being fair and truthful are all
intertwined to the makeup of one's personal integrity (Octech.edu, 2013). Dishonestly never
makes anyone look good, whether it's lying on one's resume or calling in sick. A true professional
is upfront, so if you aren't qualified for the job either does not apply for it or send in your
application anyway and explain why you'd be perfect for the job in spite of it (About.com, 2013).
Also the dishonesty is to lie about being sick, if you need a day off take a personal or vacation day.
Professionalism means respect, not misrepresent, discriminate, or harass others. Showing respect

College is an institution designed to prepare and improve people for the workplace. There are
many similarities and differences between the two; however, especially in writing. Grammar
