Ego Vs God Essay
Ego vs. God
During my growing up years, from the time I was 3 or 4, I attended church with my parents. Sunday school taught me all the bible stories and when I
was 12, I went to confirmation for two years. I was confirmed in eighth grade and continued to attend church regularly until two years ago.
Beginning two years ago, I had come to the realization that I had a great deal of apathy about my religious beliefs. It probably started with my lack
of participation in church and in Sunday school. I found myself only going to church to end up falling asleep or being bored out of my mind. Sunday
school was no better. All I would do is play around with my friends and learn absolutely nothing. Soon after, I quit going to church and decided... Show

He took my friend's mother and not more than seven months later, took my best friend's grandmother with the same disease. I always thought that there
was a reason for events to happen this way, but now I could not understand why. Another reason for myconfusion would be my thought of the
"buddy–buddy" Jesus.
A term that I learned in my junior year from Mr. Donahue was being "buddy–buddy" with Jesus. This meant that in times of crisis and need, you would
run to Him and ask for His help and be with Him until the crisis or situation was over. It seemed that I was becoming that way and I never knew it.
It all started when my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I would find myself praying to God each and every night for a good twenty
minutes praying that she would be back on her feet and doing her job of being my mother. As time passed a miracle occurred and today she is well
and healthy and she is back to her normal self. I thanked God that she was still alive and then forgot my need for God. Then it was sometime before
another crisis occurred and I would go back to God. This time it was my father's heart attack. I had just returned from a camping trip and came home
to my mother telling me that my dad was in the hospital. Again, I would become "buddy–buddy" with God and prayed that the event would have a
happy ending. After his heart attack, everything returned to normal and life went

Church Service Paper
For this assignment I attended a church service at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plantation. Walking into the church there are rows of pews, and at the
end of the isle stands the alter, to the left, there was a candle, which signifies the presence of the Holy Spirit. Above the alter hung a cross, which
symbolizes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In a Protestant church one will never see a crucifix, which means they do not have the
body of Jesus hanging on the cross. The reason for this is because Protestants focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the complete work of Christ. In
other branches of Christianity, like Catholicism, one can find a crucifix because Catholicism focuses on Jesus' death (Patheos). Surrounding the alter
were two benches to kneel behind, one on each side of the alter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The day I attended service was "All Saints Day" which celebrates all known saints and also unknowns saints such as friends or family members who
have passed away. Within the Christian faith when someone passes away, they become saints. Pastor Abram, the pastor of the church, wore a white
robe, which are worn on either Christmas or Christmastide (the time shortly before Christmas). Pastors Abram began the service with confession, then
lead into the prayer of the day which said "Grant that we may always be clothed with the finest linen of Your righteousness, that we may follow Your
blessed saints in the righteousness deeds of faith and come to the unspeakable joys of heaven." After was the first reading from Revelation 7:9–17,
which signifies that with God you are saved –"... never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst." Next, we recited the Nicene Creed, which
professes the Christian faith. Followed by the creed was the Hymn of the day– "For all the saint," then Pastor Abram gave his sermon. His sermon

The Day Of A Catholic Church Service
Last Sunday, while attending my weekly Catholic Church service, I strived to analyze the ritualized service. I realized that a service itself is not just
comprised of one ritual, but of multiple rituals that are guided by the purpose of ultimately salvaging one's soul at any given moment by offering one's
time to God. Thus, I sought out to better understand one of the rituals present individually, which is the most important one (though they are all
important) present in the service. Such ritual is the blessing of the bread and wine, and the reception of such blessed elements by the people in
attendance. I chose to analyze this ritual, referred to as the miracle of Transubstantiation, for it indeed fulfills the goal of the Eucharist as a whole:
providing salvation to the souls of the audience, which accentuates the importance of the ritual itself. Moreover, I chose this ritual because it carries
a huge misconception, which is that the blessed bread and wine are symbolic of Jesus's Flesh and Blood. As I learned in a Religion and Ethics class,
Catholics believe that, while the priest blesses the elements of the ritual, the Holy Spirit descends upon the bread and wine, converting both the bread
and wine to the actual Body and Blood of Jesus, which propels the bread and wine to lose their symbolic meanings. Such occurrence is called the
miracle of Transubstantiation, and it is essential to the ritual, for it allows the individuals present to be salvaged by actually receiving

Free Chapel Report
This week I spent a great amount of exploring the space at Free Chapel. I went on Wednesday April 6th, and was hoping to attend a service, but
unfortunately they no longer have a Wednesday night service, and hold a meeting for the men's ministry instead. In general the space inside the
church is very large, and it consist of two different level with a wide variety of room that are used for different groups of people. Furthermore, the
large cross on the outside lets people outside know what the space is being used for, before they even enter the building. In contrast, as I began to walk
around the space I realized that there besides for a bible quote on one of the walls there are very few relics which give the space away as a Christian
space of worship. In my experience, the space of church is used as a place where people who have some of the same beliefs can come together to
learn more about the Christian religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, there was no popular music being played as people entered the room. In addition, the screen were not in use as the sermon was going on. I
believe that this is due to the fact that the church is catering the space to the audience that they have. Additionally, the space consist of a stage and
seats similar to a normal church setting where people would to listen to the pastor/ speaker. However, in the back there are also seats and tables
where people can sit to socialize with each other. This proves that the space is not only being used as a place to learn, but rather a place to
socialized and be entertained. Moreover, at the front there is a large desk that one must pass on the way out, this in affect is a way to regulate and
discourage people from leaving during the middle of the

My Experience At Holy Hill And At A Church Service
When I first was told that I would be spending a part of my weekend at Holy Hill and at a church service, I was less than thrilled to say the least, but I
must admit after capping it off with a burrito or two it turned out to be an enjoyable adventure. After spending the past fifteen years of my life going
through Catholic education classes and the ritual of Sunday mass, I admit that I never paid much attention to the things that you have asked me to
observe here today. I guess I just never took the time to appreciate the brilliance of the architecture surrounding me, or how the location of the church
could have an influence on its composition. I can't say that I ever truly looked at art as an expression of devotion to my faith or the lessons that song
could convey when presented at the right moment during mass. Yet, I did today. For the first time, I was aware of my surroundings and all that St.
Josapht's had to offer anyone who was willing to enter its doors.
What a truly amazing history St. Josaphat's has had. In 1896, Father Wilhelm Grutza set out to build a church that the community would be proud of
and would honor the Polish heritage of this parishioners. Using the existing church as well as materials that were reclaimed from the Chicago Post
Office and Custom House, he hired architect Erhard Brielmaier to design St. Josaphat Church using a Polish cathedral architectural style. This style
used elements of Baroque and Renaissance architecture, modeled after St.

Religion : Religion And Religion
What is a religion to people? Religion provides preservation, awareness, wisdom, teaching of the good or bad. It 's a lifeline for some people. It is the
way they associate life and live with it. Religion is how they identify themselves. Religion is very big part of people lives and plays the huge role
in their actions. There are good and bad deeds or sin and virtues according to religion. It varies down to religion to religion to its people. Everyone
is affiliated with religion in some way or another because it is in our roots. Our elders have strongly believed in religion because it played the
significant role in their life. Our beliefs come from the culture and religion we associate with it. It represents what kind of individual someone is.
It 's amazing how much religion affects our daily lives. We may not think it does because we are so busy with our work, studies, and stuff that we
forget that there is religion. We go back to it often when we fail, need something, worried, pass, sad, and happy. We askGod for help. We pray to him
because we rely on him to help us. So, our matters work out. He is the savior of his people. There is not one religion which is followed by people.
Religion has many different types and it has branches to it as well. When you are living in the United States of America, Christianity is the most
common among people. Around 75% people worship Christianity. Christianity has further dominations which may be little different, but ultimately

My Spiritual Autobiography Of My Life
Spiritual Autobiography
I often hear people say "I knew I was called to preach the gospel" or "ministry is in my blood." For many years, even into adulthood, I thought
ministry was only about preaching. I did not understand the depth of ministry until I became intimate with God. I realize that those who said they were
called to preach are only seeking out a job because true ministry is a lifestyle. My spiritual journey began in early childhood. However, unlike many
others who grew up as pastor kids, the long boring years I spent in church services deterred me from wanting to go into ministry. Even into
adulthood, I went to church but that is all I wanted to do. I wanted to go to service, listen to the pastor, give my offering, say amen then go home and
proceed with the rest of my life. In fact, this cycle and my view about doing ministry continued until my late 20s. As a seminarian looking back on my
childhood, I discovered my family's church habits were the norm for people at that time. My grandmother did not believe women should to wear pants
because they were things that "pertain to a man (Deuteronomy 22:5)" and the skirt should always be a modest length. I could not see it at that time,
but, unknowingly, while I was grumbling and complaining about my clothes and the time we spent in church, the other believers were instilling
biblical values in me that would manifest later in life. My relationship with God between ages 18 and 26 is similar to the people in the last

Community Service At Northview Church
Community Service is not strange to me because I have been doing community service at Northview Church since the beginning of my sophomore
year in high school. When I saw the assignment that I have to complete 4 hours of community services, I knew that Northview church was my first
choice. Northview church was found by Tommy Paino in October 1980. There were only 30 people in the cafeteria of Carmel Elementary School
where they formed the church which later become Northview Church. Three years later, in the month of July, 1983. 285 people attended the last
service at Carmel Elementary School, then they moved to the church's new place which is located at 131st and Gray Road. In the late 1985, the church
bought an 81–acre of land located at the highest point in Hamilton County on the southwest west corner of Main Street in the city of Carmel. This is
the place the church is currently located at ("Northview Church History"). Throughout my service, I learned that the church's mission is to connect
people with God and connect people with people. They value relationships, spiritual growth, and the ability to reach out to those who are far from God.
During my four hours of community service, I did many things such as mowing grass, throw wastes into the dumpster by driving a tractor, and clean the
sidewalk by using a wind blower. To other people, it may seem like that there are just light duty work, but to me every work done will make the
community look better no matter how light

Venus By Angelica Monologue
It was a long cold morning in the midst of October, in our "extravagant" town of Venus. It was the start of our weekend in our town, where the
clouds lay low and the people somehow always know. It was fall. The leaves unrolling and falling throughout the town. The sound of the winds
whistling across the cramped streets. The people are involved in everything, and always seem to make mistakes. Which sadly doesn't always end well.
A caring town, but not very forgiving. People die and people sin. A town that revolves around the church, but yet is full of sin. That's Venus for you. A
small town but full of madness.
It all happened during that period of fall. On one October morning, the leaves falling and the skies as grey as the moon. I lay there ... Show more content

Ushering in Church
THE ROLE OF USHERING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
The Scriptural Foundation for Ushering
Ushering in your local church involves much more than shaking hands and shining your shoes. Some churches think that ushers are just bucket
passers, so they grab anybody to pass the bucket. "Let's just grab ol' Larry when he comes walking in. Let's just get anybody." You don't want to get
just anybody, because you don't want an anybody offering. You have been selected as an usher; you are in the ministry of helps, employed by Almighty
God.
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, HELPS,
governments, diversities of tongues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tasks Involved in Ushering
Many churches seem to demoralize an usher's duties, thinking they are very limited and unimportant. However, the duties of an usher range far beyond
passing buckets and shaking hands and encompass weighty and meaningful tasks. I specifically define these duties in four areas.
Assist the Pastor
Number one, an usher assists the pastor and helps him bring his vision for the local church to fulfilment. As an usher, your presence will build up
and add to the wellbeing of your church. The pastor stands up and says, "It's time for an offering." When an army of ushers stand and come forth,
that impresses people. They think, "Wow, look at those people who are here to serve." Sadly, in some churches, when the pastor gets up to take an
offering, he has to say, "Could we have some help? Is there anybody here who wants to serve God? Somebody jump up, and give us a hand here! We
need some help over here or over there." People are watching this thinking "Hmm, I wonder what's going on around here? Nobody wants to assist the
pastor."
Meet and Greet
Number two, an usher is God's public relations man and represents the church to every new visitor. Because the pastor of a large church cannot
personally greet all the people before a service, it is the usher's responsibility to make visitors feel welcome and important.
Now, I will discuss this in

Church Observation
My church volunteers at the New Orleans Mission once every month. We serve dinner meals and lead a Christian worship service to homeless,
hurting, and hungry people of New Orleans. This August was the second time I went along with my church to volunteer. We went out with two of our
pastors, five youth volunteers, six adult volunteers, and one of our church's music groups. When we arrived, we set up tables and chairs in the large
eating room. Then, our music group led a worship service in the chapel for the people who came in that night. We snuck out halfway through the
sermon to begin serving and setting out meals on all of the tables. Once the worship service ended, we led people from the chapel to their seats so they
could eat. As they ate,

Essay On Sense Of Place
Sense of Place I've gone to the same church in Hartford almost every Sunday since I was born. The old building holds countless number of
memories for my family and me. It has set the stage for a number of Christmas plays and Sunday School concerts. It's where my little brother and I
were baptized, and just recently it was where my goddaughter, Aurora, was baptized. After 20 years of marriage, it was where my parents renewed
their vows, and a year later, it was where we held the funeral for my dad after he lost his battle with cancer. When it's not a place of worship on Sunday
mornings, it's a daycare, where I work and care for a group of rowdy three–year–olds. In my 19 years of membership, the church has seen three
different Pastors and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now instead of running through the parking lot to climb the tree, I get to walk past the place where it used to be planted every day when I lead my
class out to the playground. Life flew by incredibly fast, and now instead of being one of the kids in the church, I'm one of the adults taking care of
them. In high school I taught Sunday school, and it was only then that I realized how difficult it was to coordinate a Christmas program; if I could I'd
apologize to every choir leader and Sunday School teacher who was in charge of me and my obnoxious group of friends when we were little. It takes
an incredible amount of patience to get kids where they need to be, on time and happy, and I know I'm nowhere near perfect at it, but I do my best to
mimic the teaching styles of those who taught me.
In my three years working at the daycare I've bounced around from age–group to age–group, but for the majority of my employment I have been with
the same group of kids. When I first started, they were the rowdiest group of three–year olds the daycare had ever seen and they were in desperate need
of an extra set of hands, that's why they hired me. The daycare director just happened to be my old babysitter, and when she learned I was applying, I
was given the job with no fuss or interview. I spent the remainder of that summer chasing kids around the playground and avoiding them when they got

My First Experience At Bridgetown Church
My first experience at Bridgetown church was very long overdue and very interesting. Most all of my friends and family all have been inviting me
to Bridgetown specifically because they all really enjoy a specific pastor there that speaks on Sunday services. I never saw the need to go, mainly
because of my night shifts are scheduled so oddly I was afraid of falling asleep at a religious sermon that I was not interested in embarrassing myself
at and also not wanting to go out of my way to attend something that I was not particularly interested in. Bluntly writing I did not want to waste my
time to go to something I wasn't very excited about, especially when I do not know what to expect. This assignment did give the opportunity a bigger
reason and I am glad to have been able to make such an insightful visit that I may not mind trying again in the near future. The Bridgetown church
service gathers in a historical Portland church that has beautiful architecture, called the First Baptist Church. Located on SW 11th and Taylor Street
almost in the heart of downtown Portland. I went to the very last service of three, given every Sunday, held at 7pm, known for young adults because of
its close location to Portland State University. The fact that there are three services given in one day was very shocking to me, that a community of
people would devote to doing the same exact thing three times once a week seems very time consuming and loyal to me. The certain Sunday that I

Comparison Of First Baptist And Frazer Methodist Church
The two churches I attended were First Baptist and Frazer Methodist Church. The experiences I had were not too far from each other meaning they
weren't really all that different. The First Church I went to was Frazer. When I first got there I was a little confused because I didn't really know
anybody at first. But as I got in to the church and started to meet more people I felt very welcomed like I was meant to go the church. When the
service started the first thing that happened was the Youth Minister came and spoke to us. He was telling us about the mission trips they are currently
doing and also what they had been learning about in the weekly service for the past few months they had been talking about being spiritually fit for
God. After he talked to us about that he sent us all off and we went to Sunday School. At Sunday school there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the main service we started with a prayer. And then we sang a few songs and listened to the sermon. The sermon was about how no matter how

experience at Frazer it was very nice and they had some really good points. But one thing that I didn't really like was the fact that it wasn't really
personal like I like the Church service to be. The next service I attended was First Baptists Sunday service when I first got there I knew almost every
single person the people that were there were mostly Trinity people and some the people were from other schools but I still knew most of them. The
first thing that happened was they had a free breakfast for anyone who wanted it. The first thing we did was talk about the wednesday service and

Religious Metaphors In The Story Of Langston's Salvation
Salvation means for most people that this is when their perception changes in life and about life. Salvation is when someone comes to a certain
realization that things around them are changing, and the way they once looked at life is now different. Salvation relates to the story of a young
individual in this story name Langton that was saved from his own innocence. Langston was a twelve year old who majority of his time in the
church with his aunt. As he grew up he saw the many changes of people and faces the church. Langston was starting to lose faith. He did not know
if he should believe there was a Jesus. Langston gave up hope on Jesus when he was lost and confused, and he felt there was no one there to help him
in his time of need. Hughes' faced some challenging experiences and this demonstrated to him how adults may confuse children, especially when
adults don't take the time to explain the religious metaphors children are trying to understand. Langston's, Auntie Reed is primarily responsible for his
loss of faith at an early age. Langston's aunt should of taken the time explaining to Langston that Jesus' words were as they appear in The Sermon on
the Mount serve as a useful guide for living one's life, she told him that "when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to your
insides!" At that point when Langston heard those words he was more confused than before. Langston wanted to make sense of the information his
Auntie Reed was sharing with him but he

Experience at a Church Service of the Amazing Grace Church...
1.1History of Christianity
Christianity is the religion based on the life, death and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, also known as the Christ or Messiah. Jesus was a Jewish
teacher and prophet who lived in Palestine in the first century CE. He revealed himself to be the Son of God in fulfillment of Hebrew scripture, and
taught that the Kingdom of God was imminent, bringing with it forgiveness and new life for all who believed. His claim to be the Messiah roused
opposition from religious and political authorities and he was imprisoned and crucified. His followers believe that after his death, Jesus was resurrected
before being taken up to heaven.

Chapter 2: The Worship Service
2.1 The Songs
Worship comes in different forms depending on how the church wants the service to proceed. For the Amazing Grace Church, the service began
with the congregation singing a number of worship songs to the Lord that lasted for about an hour. Christian praise and worship by music, and in
fact, music is a great tool for helping them feel closer to God. Music is an emotional language because it effectively affects their emotions and the
lyrics can swell their hearts. There is nothing bigger and greater than the grace of God that is delivered to them from condemnation through the
sacrifice of his own Son. Thus, Christian chooses to praise and worship Him by singing. While singing, the congregation stands on their feet and
they seem to be affected by the songs in some way as they raise their hands as a sign of accepting the Lord into their hearts. The emotion that was
thrown from the congregation was very distinctive to us as we could see that the songs are an important tool of expression. According to the pastor of
the Amazing Grace Church, singing let the people focus on the worship, helps them respond to God's grace and also guide them to reflect on God's
glory. In his opinion, singing mean nothing if people do not respond to what they have sang and related it to God and reflect it to make them better
believers.

The Strength Of Religion On The South
The Strength of Religion in the South
Religion plays a different role in southern culture than it does in other parts of the nation. In "the bible belt", religion is very integrated into both the
local and regional cultures, demonstrated by higher attendance in religious activities and more religion affiliated establishments per square mile. The
purpose of this paper is to understand how religion plays a role in the life of women in the south and discuss the ever–changing pressures they feel from
their community and family. It will also explore why religious ties in the south are stronger than those of the rest of the nation. The research method

When she became a young adult, she began attending the regular church service with her parents. One Sunday during the regular service Janet
remembers that the preacher had an "alter calling", which was a special event. The preacher requested that anyone who wanted to be baptized to
please come to the altar. Janet said she could feel God asking her to step forward and become baptized, however, she did not step up because her
parents did not nod at her that it was all right for her to go up, instead, they just looked up and focused on the preacher. Janet felt she had missed the
opportunity to accept her calling from God.
Janet felt betrayed by her parents because they had denied her the chance to embrace her religion. These feelings of betrayal lead her to pull away
from her parents and her religion. As she progressed through high school, Janet's life revolved less and less around her religion and more and more
around her own life. She no longer attended church every Sunday and the very same parents who would not let her embrace her religion began
making her feel guilty for not attending services. She remembers her dad leaving for church each Sunday saying he would pray for her. Her community
also noticed she was not attending church services and that added to her guilt.
Adding to the confusion about her religion was the fact that each side of her family expressed and acted out their religion

My Current State Of Mind
At twenty years old I see my life to be in a very rough patch. I find myself too busy for my own good, filled with stress and anxiety provoking
situations. I consider my current state of mind "numb". I am filled with depression and internal battles I know I can 't fight alone yet choose not to
seek help from a higher being. In my life right now I do not belong to a church. I may still participate in church events, but that's because my local
church relies on me to do their marketing, advertising, and event planning. The congregation may still consider me part of the church, but I don't.
Growing up I attended church consistently with my mother and brother. Every Sunday we would go to Sunday school for an hour then sit in
service for another hour and a half. This is what I did until my junior year in high school when my Sunday school class dissolved from lack of
attendees and I chose to only attend services sporadically. At that point I thought the church had nothing for me, no benefit. All my friends and peers
whom I had grown up with left or stopped attending and I lost the social aspect I craved every Sunday. Church shouldn't be about seeing friends and
playing football on the church lawn, but it is a part of the church many people enjoy the most. The sense of community and family is what brings and
keeps people together. Being the only one around my age sitting in a pew listening on Sunday made me feel isolated and I was unhappy with that
situation. I had opportunities to

Descriptive Essay About The Church
My church, Crestmont Alliance Church, is focused on mission and Jesus. My church is located in Aliquippa and we do a lot of mission work there.
My church is one hundred years old. Crestmont has many special features. It has a kitchen, some classrooms, a nursery, a cafe, and a baptismal. In
addition to Sunday worship, the church is used for weddings, VBS, committee meetings, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and birthday parties, and
special events. My church is also used as a voting poll but the Pastor and the Elders do not let people advertise for the candidates. They teach our
church Biblical truths so that they can make their own decisions about who to vote for. In our sanctuary we have 5 flags in the very front. The five
flags are the American flag, the Christian flag, the Jordanian flag, the Dominican Republic flag and the Florida state flag. The latter three flags
represent the countries and states that are in a missionary partnership with Crestmont. We have a multitude of flags along the side of my church that
represent the countries the Christian Missionary Alliance partner with. We have a communion table with multiple names of Christ on it. (It was
donated to the church in memory of my Grandfather.) We also have stain glass windows but they don't have a specific purpose, they just make the
sanctuary more reverent. There is a large wooden cross above the baptismal which is the focal point of the sanctuary to represent that Jesus was crucified

Oasis Church: A Short Story
It bothers me to know that there are people who have been so wounded by their experience in a local church that they no longer feel comfortable

a long time. Then they began to attend Oasis and their experience here allowed them to heal and regain their faith. That is the comment that excites
me the most. And, to recognize that there are people who would say they had their "negative experience" at Oasis Church is one of the most painful
things that I can think of. I went to a Laker game one night and saw a man holding a sign outside the arena, "God hates sin. Judgment is coming." "Is

Secret Service? What for? What's going on?" I asked. "They said they got a call from one of our 'ministers' who insisted that he meet with
President Clinton when he comes to Southern California next week. The 'minister' they are talking about is John, the homeless guy who comes to

with one screen. Economic recession, the popularity of TV and the introduction of video all served to bring about the closure of a great many of
these venues. Attitudes to leisure and spending changed as there seemed to be much more on offer such as foreign travel, consumer goods to mention
a few. In addition, those who couldn't access a cinema felt unable to fully participate in the cultural life of the nation. Today's cinema however, has
evolved to be one which has enough screens to give a wide choice of films providing for variety, one which is sophisticated and friendly, one with

Worship; the Jubilee Church London. This is an informal, multicultural church in Enfield which moved into Enfield CINEWORLD Complex in 2005
with a followership of 100 people. The church followership has since grown to over 1000 followers holding two services every Sunday. The church's

worshipping God, loving people and reaching the lost, all in a context of community; they offer services such as a befriending service to elderly people

My Volunteer Service At Fallbrook Church
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or an organization to "lead" or guide other individuals,
teams, or entire organizations. Leadership cannot be defined by just one word, but by action. I have seen development within myself through my
volunteer service. Leadership is both a research area and a practical opportunity to share the ability gained as an individual, also through my
organizations to lead or guide other individual team members who have a common goal. Volunteering in the church organizations matches my need
to be of service to others. While volunteer at Fallbrook church I in return have been served I have been guided, nurtured, and challenge through the
process. I have been able to utilize skills acquired throughout this year that enhance my volunteer service. I have been able to challenge the process,
inspire shared vision and model the way through the course of a year. I have been mentored and taught moral, values and standard through weekly
Bible studies. I 've been able to gain knowledge that is useful for the children I care for on Sunday while their parents receive education. I model the
way through the actions, lessons, and support I teach the children my return presence is a reminder to the children that I will be a reliable and meet

The Role And Roles Of The Outreach Department
The Outreach Department is comprised of the following units; the evangelism unit, hospitals fellowship, prisons fellowship, new converts follow–up
unit, and discipleship unit. As functional units each is tasked with the following responsibilities:–
The Evangelism unit: the unit is charged with reaching out to communities through house to house campaigns, tracts distribution, open air and
crusades. During the years 2014–2016 there were only two week long mass crusade that were held, respectively Block 3 and the Old Naledi locations.
At the Block 3 crusade 85 people gave their lives to Jesus Christ while at Old Naledi 96 people gave their lives to Christ. Due to lack of retention and
follow up strategy the Block 3 results were fruitless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unit is able to baptize thirty to fifty per secession (two sessions annually). The average number of thirty is a very low output compared to the 800
plus people who gave their lives Christ from 2014 to 2016.
Challenges faced by the Department:
пѓ Limited number of Teachers to help people grow in Christ resulting in longer salvation classes and also delaying baptismal sessions. This an area
of concern as the process does help to retain new converts. In fact, the church is able to run one or two baptism sessions annually.
пѓ No standardized teaching manual. Over the years the Teachers do not use a standardized manual to disciple new converts. This is one element
among other elements that cause sessions to take longer since they are not timed and structured.
пѓ Few workers at the Hospital, prisons and new converts follow up activities. This an area of concern that given the number of the church population
only few brothers and sisters are committed in serving in through these ministries.
пѓ Desclipship accommodation. Over the years the unit used the church wall to help new converts. Since the CrГЁche / Sunday school block has
been established request were made to the church board but to avail.
пѓ The Evangelism Team has overstayed at Old Naledi and this causes the team to lose focus on the outreach mandate by

Church Proclamation As The Material Of Dogmatics

The Church Dogmatics. В§3. Church proclamation as the material of Dogmatics
While I read this part, I was wondering what the three guys would think of the best way for churches to help non–believers to come to faith. It might be
very speculative, since they didn't explicitly write about it. However, I want to imagine what they would answer if I ask to them.
All of them would agree that coming to faith is up to God's sovereignty. However, they would also agree that God may use the church as a secondary
cause. Then, what could be the best way to help those who attend church but yet to come to faith?
Schleiermacher
In On Religion, Schleiermacher argues that religion is not to be identified with either knowledge or action. It lies at the deeper level of our being, and
we could discover that the true seat of religion is feeling. (41) Also in Christian Faith, he asserts the same statement that "The piety which forms the
basis of all ecclesiastical communions is, considered purely in itself, neither a
Knowing nor a Doing, but a modification of Feeling, or of immediate self–consciousness." (5)
According to his view, we need to help non–believers to feel their self–consciousness. How? First of all, Schleiermacher might disagree with the idea of
teaching doctrine. He says that Doctrines are only the shadows of our religious emotions (On religion, 8). Through Josef's mouth, he says that "all
speech making too tedious and cold." Instead, he suggests that "let us be glad and

Essay Chaucers Canterbury Tales
Take any pilgrim whose tale we read and show Chaucer artfully matches the story to the teller.
Of the many stories he writes the tale told by the Wife of Bath is the most verbal and for its time the most forthright exposition of the role women did
not have but could have in that time period. The wife of Bath's story is fairly general a man is accused of trying to rape a woman and the sentence for
this charge is to be hung. The mean pleads and pleads to be acquitted of his charge so the queen of the time says he will not be hung if he finds the
answer to a certain question. The question is "What is it women most desire." He is given one year and one day to find this answer and until the day

The Wife of Bath I see as being more the naГЇve, idealistic old hag. Another correlation is how sly they both are and how they like to gossip.
I am pretty positive Chaucer meant for the Old Hag to be related to the Wife of Bath for the different reasons I have explained. It is still odd how the
character made it into Canterbury Tales but interesting all the same; The Wife of Bath's story best describe whom she herself actually is.
Chaucer's portraits of the clergy and church related position show evidence of a religious system full of corruption and hypocrisy. Examine in depth 2
or 3 of Chaucer's pilgrim portraits from the prologue, illustrate or demonstrate how the medieval church was in need of reform.
The late 14th century church almost a disgrace to the meaning and reputation it was supposed to be upholding. This was not true for all of the
church as is true all of Chaucer's characters were not exact remakes of their real life counterpart. The clergy (Monk and Prioress and Friar) and other
church related affiliates (Summoner and Pardoner) are made out to be corrupting the church. The Friar was a member of the mendicants, who were a
group that traveled from town to town supposedly helping the poor this was however not what he did. The Summoner and pardoner were both not
qualified for the positions they held and were in a sense stealing money from those that

Essay on Personal Experience: Sunday Worship
I entered into the worship service, unaware of what to expect. I was not familiar with this church, it was a non–denominational church, but the pastor
had his roots in the A.M.E. Zion Church and branched out to establish his own church. I walked into the sanctuary prepared to participate in the
Sunday School. I found a seat and readied myself to engage in some meaningful discussion. After sitting for several minutes, I asked one of the
gentlemen who was standing at the front of the church if they had already started and where was the lesson coming from. He looked at his watch and
indicated that he didn't know if we had time for Sunday School. A puzzled look came over my face and I couldn't help but express my confusion as I

Far too often, in this emerging new culture, we want to treat God as friend, and not as creator and sustainer. Humans are flawed fleshly beings,
therefore whenever in the true presence of God a transformation from old to new should occur. We should feel so convicted about our transgressions
until we have an earnest desire to change. The flesh dies and slowly loses control of our lives, leaving the Holy Spirit to freely dwell. Ironically
enough the next topic he mentioned was praise. He talked about a song which was sung by the choir "Praise is what we do" and he couldn't understand
the relevance behind these words. Once again, I slowly raised my hand and injected that praise is what we do, worship transcends beyond these
parameters as an act of honoring and revering God. Worship is the entire church experience. Before I could elaborate further, he quickly indicated it
was time to close out and we didn't have time for further discussion. This Sunday School experience demonstrated the necessity for us to educate those
persons who uphold leadership positions in the Church. If the Sunday school teacher had simply taken the time to research the answers to his
questions, he would have been properly equipped to lead the discussion. It saddened me to realize that in essence it was the blind leading the blind. In
a situation such as this, it is imperative that

Personal Narrative: A Day At Shepherd's Community...
On Sunday, November 2 at 10:00am, I attended Shepherd's Community Methodist church in Lakeland, Florida. It had been several weeks since I
had attended church and I was looking forward to worshiping and learning from the message that would be delivered by the pastor. At a United
Methodist Church the first Sunday is "Communion Sunday" and I was excited to take part in the sacrament of Holy Communion at the service.
Pastor Mark Reynolds was the pastor that delivered the sermon titled "The Best Investment". After the worship music, a short video was shown. As
the video ended, Pastor Reynolds stood up from the congregation where he worshiped with us. He was dressed casually, in jeans and a button up shirt.
He prepared the congregation by explaining that the message he would deliver was not only one that people do not like to hear, but it is a worthy and
necessary part of the church. During this time of year the United Methodist churches focus on tithing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(use money to learn to love other people, bringing us closer to people), God's growth fund (use money to invest in growing by learning more about
God), God's equity service fund (use money to help the needy), and God's global fund (use money to either go on a mission trip or help others go on

identity of the secret hour. During her second trip to the Blue Time, she has to be saved by Rex, Melissa, and Dess who use thirteen letter words and
steel, both of which are things darklings hate. The next day, Rex explains to Jessica how the 25th hour of each day came to existence, what exactly

A Reflection On The Church Of Santa Rosa
I went to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Santa Rosa, California. The church is located in the old movie theater in downtown Santa
Rosa. I parked in a nearby parking garage, grateful for the free parking on Sunday, and walked down the street toward the church. I knew that I had
arrived at the correct place because of the large granite sign with the name Unitarian Universalist Congregation Santa Rosa. There were many people
standing outside talking to one another. I was immediately greeted by a church member who welcomed me and showed me to the main entrance. As
I walked through the door, I noticed a rainbow flag above the main entrance, and could not help but begin thinking of the differences between this
church and the one I was raised in. The first thing I noticed as I entered the first room was the pictures on the walls. They were not of gods or deities,
but of ethnic minorities who had lived in the local community and had a positive impact. Underneath each photo was a brief description of who the
photo represented. I continued walking down the main hall and it ended in a large semi–circular room with a kitchen nook in one corner. They had
many chairs available chairs and tables to sit and socialize. Another friendly church member approached me, noticing a new face in the congregation,
and asked if I was new. After I briefly explained why I was there, he told me that he was one of the reverends and had just finished conducting the nine
o'clock service. He

My Spiritual Journey
A spiritual journey is the search of God in our lives. This journey often helps us to find the true inner meaning in our life. It doesn't matter whether
you go to church or not, nature is leading us to God. My spiritual journey began when I first moved to the United States. I was four years old when
I left Haiti with my father and twin brother and heartbroken to leave my mom behind. My dad seized the opportunity to go to America where he
would create a better future for us. Growing up was hard because, for most of my life, my mom was absent. But I was fortunate, and even without
the guidance of my mom, I learned perseverance that one day we'd reunite. This was the major step towards finding my faith and becoming a child
of God. The church became a place that I would go to pray to God in hopes of reuniting with my mother. Every Sunday, my brother and I would
attend church services by ourselves. My father could not attend because he had to work many jobs to support us as well as my mother in Haiti.
Life was hard on me because I felt a part of me wasn't complete. Attending Saint Mary's church somehow seemed to fill that void. I enjoyed going to
Sunday services so much that my brother and I decided to attend Sunday school. Through Sunday school I was learning everything I could about God
and his impact in my life. After many years of going to church, my brother and I decided that we should become alter server. Being an alter serve was
the best decision I have made. Not

What Is The Meaning Of Unholy Sonnet 14
A dull routine can always cause artificial stimulants that can lead to not more than fake results. In Unholy Sonnet 14 by Mark Jarman, he illustrates
how the congregation is becoming more of a social organization than a faith–based community mainly because of the routine it follows. The poem
reveals how the typical congregation seeks for sin to be forgiven. However, it also suggests that a congregation's conventional dull routine cannot relive
the pain of sin when it remains in the heart of the individual.
The octave of the poem describes the events of a typical church service, in the order they commonly occur. Prayer occurs first, hymn/singing is the
second, sermon third, communion forth, and hand–wringing fifth and last. At first, it may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last sentence of the poem, ""There is still murder in your heart" (14), is a powerful claim that suggests that a routine consisting of prayer,
communion, or hymn singing will not dissolve the sin of the heart. However, seeing this claim from a different standpoint, this can also suggest that
this dull routine is convenient when it comes to preserving an appearance of purity and grace. There is an image in the middle of the poem, "light
swords" (7), that possibly represents sharp members of the congregation trying to deceive the church authorities and God. Their comfort to the routine
is remarkable because it does not really make a difference at the end; the only thing that truly matters is the masked life they are trying to keep hidden.
Readers may consider the arguments presented in this poem as the truth reaching out to the contemporary church and its followers to improve their
relationship with

They were very kind and help us to move our bags inside and show us around. In the church guys slept in one room while girls slept in the other. In

Church Service Reflection
In June 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on a mission trip to Haiti. While this whole experience was outside of my cultural norms, I
found that the church service was specifically unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The church located on the campus of Mission of Hope:
Haiti, was constructed in the form of a crucifix. I honestly had no idea what to expect from the Sunday morning church service. Before the church
service began, my friend and her family made sure that I took my own bible and journal to church, since the message was spoken in Haitian Creole.
I knew that we were in Haiti serving those who were living in poverty, but to my surprise the Haitians who attended the church service were dressed
in very nice clothing. I believe this was the biggest stereotype going into the church service. After spending time in nearby villages and interacting
with the Haitian people, I did not think they would have the means to have such nice clothing. I love that throughout the week they wear casual
clothing and on Sundays wear their best clothing. That reminded me a lot about how I was raised. As a child, I always had to wear a skirt or dress to
church. This younger kids reminded me of myself.
Enriching awareness This experience allowed me to understand the universal Church better. It was such a cool thing to experience the worship that
was included in the service. The songs were sung in Creole, but I could sing the words in English because I was able to

Importance Of Observation On Church Service
Intro In this paper I have invited my wife's Abuela to our church one Sunday morning and I will be observing and asking her questions after the
service. My observation will include my thoughts of what she thinks and I will ask questions about what her thoughts are of the service and other
topics we have had in our religious class. Background A short background of Abuela is that she is from Puerto Rico, 87 years old, speaks mostly
Spanish, no husband and she loves her great grandkids a lot. I think it's a grandmother thing to just hand money out and give whatever to the kids
because the kids love it when she comes. Last year we attended St. Patrick Catholic church here in San Antonio and when Abuela came this summer,
this past weekend I figured that I would have something to do my paper on. We have attended her Catholic church before and although she likes it
dearly, it is not for my family so we asked if she would attend our church. Observation While in Church Service. Throughout the church service I
would glance over just to get an indication as to what Abuela's thought were, was she engaged or not into the service message. When we first walled
up to our church which is of Christian religion / belief. Abuela mentioned that there wasn't a Holy water area prior to entering but she went through the
motions as if there was. I realized something throughout the service, that Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and the service was in English so I knew that

Ego Vs God Essay

  • 1. Ego Vs God Essay Ego vs. God During my growing up years, from the time I was 3 or 4, I attended church with my parents. Sunday school taught me all the bible stories and when I was 12, I went to confirmation for two years. I was confirmed in eighth grade and continued to attend church regularly until two years ago. Beginning two years ago, I had come to the realization that I had a great deal of apathy about my religious beliefs. It probably started with my lack of participation in church and in Sunday school. I found myself only going to church to end up falling asleep or being bored out of my mind. Sunday school was no better. All I would do is play around with my friends and learn absolutely nothing. Soon after, I quit going to church and decided... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He took my friend's mother and not more than seven months later, took my best friend's grandmother with the same disease. I always thought that there was a reason for events to happen this way, but now I could not understand why. Another reason for myconfusion would be my thought of the "buddy–buddy" Jesus. A term that I learned in my junior year from Mr. Donahue was being "buddy–buddy" with Jesus. This meant that in times of crisis and need, you would run to Him and ask for His help and be with Him until the crisis or situation was over. It seemed that I was becoming that way and I never knew it. It all started when my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I would find myself praying to God each and every night for a good twenty minutes praying that she would be back on her feet and doing her job of being my mother. As time passed a miracle occurred and today she is well and healthy and she is back to her normal self. I thanked God that she was still alive and then forgot my need for God. Then it was sometime before another crisis occurred and I would go back to God. This time it was my father's heart attack. I had just returned from a camping trip and came home to my mother telling me that my dad was in the hospital. Again, I would become "buddy–buddy" with God and prayed that the event would have a happy ending. After his heart attack, everything returned to normal and life went ... • 2. Church Service Paper For this assignment I attended a church service at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plantation. Walking into the church there are rows of pews, and at the end of the isle stands the alter, to the left, there was a candle, which signifies the presence of the Holy Spirit. Above the alter hung a cross, which symbolizes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In a Protestant church one will never see a crucifix, which means they do not have the body of Jesus hanging on the cross. The reason for this is because Protestants focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the complete work of Christ. In other branches of Christianity, like Catholicism, one can find a crucifix because Catholicism focuses on Jesus' death (Patheos). Surrounding the alter were two benches to kneel behind, one on each side of the alter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The day I attended service was "All Saints Day" which celebrates all known saints and also unknowns saints such as friends or family members who have passed away. Within the Christian faith when someone passes away, they become saints. Pastor Abram, the pastor of the church, wore a white robe, which are worn on either Christmas or Christmastide (the time shortly before Christmas). Pastors Abram began the service with confession, then lead into the prayer of the day which said "Grant that we may always be clothed with the finest linen of Your righteousness, that we may follow Your blessed saints in the righteousness deeds of faith and come to the unspeakable joys of heaven." After was the first reading from Revelation 7:9–17, which signifies that with God you are saved –"... never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst." Next, we recited the Nicene Creed, which professes the Christian faith. Followed by the creed was the Hymn of the day– "For all the saint," then Pastor Abram gave his sermon. • 3. The Day Of A Catholic Church Service Last Sunday, while attending my weekly Catholic Church service, I strived to analyze the ritualized service. I realized that a service itself is not just comprised of one ritual, but of multiple rituals that are guided by the purpose of ultimately salvaging one's soul at any given moment by offering one's time to God. Thus, I sought out to better understand one of the rituals present individually, which is the most important one (though they are all important) present in the service. Such ritual is the blessing of the bread and wine, and the reception of such blessed elements by the people in attendance. I chose to analyze this ritual, referred to as the miracle of Transubstantiation, for it indeed fulfills the goal of the Eucharist as a whole: providing salvation to the souls of the audience, which accentuates the importance of the ritual itself. Moreover, I chose this ritual because it carries a huge misconception, which is that the blessed bread and wine are symbolic of Jesus's Flesh and Blood. As I learned in a Religion and Ethics class, Catholics believe that, while the priest blesses the elements of the ritual, the Holy Spirit descends upon the bread and wine, converting both the bread and wine to the actual Body and Blood of Jesus, which propels the bread and wine to lose their symbolic meanings. Such occurrence is called the miracle of Transubstantiation, and it is essential to the ritual, for it allows the individuals present to be salvaged by actually receiving ... • 4. Free Chapel Report This week I spent a great amount of exploring the space at Free Chapel. I went on Wednesday April 6th, and was hoping to attend a service, but unfortunately they no longer have a Wednesday night service, and hold a meeting for the men's ministry instead. In general the space inside the church is very large, and it consist of two different level with a wide variety of room that are used for different groups of people. Furthermore, the large cross on the outside lets people outside know what the space is being used for, before they even enter the building. In contrast, as I began to walk around the space I realized that there besides for a bible quote on one of the walls there are very few relics which give the space away as a Christian space of worship. In my experience, the space of church is used as a place where people who have some of the same beliefs can come together to learn more about the Christian religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, there was no popular music being played as people entered the room. In addition, the screen were not in use as the sermon was going on. I believe that this is due to the fact that the church is catering the space to the audience that they have. Additionally, the space consist of a stage and seats similar to a normal church setting where people would to listen to the pastor/ speaker. However, in the back there are also seats and tables where people can sit to socialize with each other. This proves that the space is not only being used as a place to learn, but rather a place to socialized and be entertained. Moreover, at the front there is a large desk that one must pass on the way out, this in affect is a way to regulate and discourage people from leaving during the middle of the ... • 5. My Experience At Holy Hill And At A Church Service When I first was told that I would be spending a part of my weekend at Holy Hill and at a church service, I was less than thrilled to say the least, but I must admit after capping it off with a burrito or two it turned out to be an enjoyable adventure. After spending the past fifteen years of my life going through Catholic education classes and the ritual of Sunday mass, I admit that I never paid much attention to the things that you have asked me to observe here today. I guess I just never took the time to appreciate the brilliance of the architecture surrounding me, or how the location of the church could have an influence on its composition. I can't say that I ever truly looked at art as an expression of devotion to my faith or the lessons that song could convey when presented at the right moment during mass. Yet, I did today. For the first time, I was aware of my surroundings and all that St. Josapht's had to offer anyone who was willing to enter its doors. What a truly amazing history St. Josaphat's has had. In 1896, Father Wilhelm Grutza set out to build a church that the community would be proud of and would honor the Polish heritage of this parishioners. Using the existing church as well as materials that were reclaimed from the Chicago Post Office and Custom House, he hired architect Erhard Brielmaier to design St. Josaphat Church using a Polish cathedral architectural style. This style used elements of Baroque and Renaissance architecture, modeled after St. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Religion : Religion And Religion What is a religion to people? Religion provides preservation, awareness, wisdom, teaching of the good or bad. It 's a lifeline for some people. It is the way they associate life and live with it. Religion is how they identify themselves. Religion is very big part of people lives and plays the huge role in their actions. There are good and bad deeds or sin and virtues according to religion. It varies down to religion to religion to its people. Everyone is affiliated with religion in some way or another because it is in our roots. Our elders have strongly believed in religion because it played the significant role in their life. Our beliefs come from the culture and religion we associate with it. It represents what kind of individual someone is. It 's amazing how much religion affects our daily lives. We may not think it does because we are so busy with our work, studies, and stuff that we forget that there is religion. We go back to it often when we fail, need something, worried, pass, sad, and happy. We askGod for help. We pray to him because we rely on him to help us. So, our matters work out. He is the savior of his people. There is not one religion which is followed by people. Religion has many different types and it has branches to it as well. When you are living in the United States of America, Christianity is the most common among people. Around 75% people worship Christianity. Christianity has further dominations which may be little different, but ultimately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My Spiritual Autobiography Of My Life Spiritual Autobiography I often hear people say "I knew I was called to preach the gospel" or "ministry is in my blood." For many years, even into adulthood, I thought ministry was only about preaching. I did not understand the depth of ministry until I became intimate with God. I realize that those who said they were called to preach are only seeking out a job because true ministry is a lifestyle. My spiritual journey began in early childhood. However, unlike many others who grew up as pastor kids, the long boring years I spent in church services deterred me from wanting to go into ministry. Even into adulthood, I went to church but that is all I wanted to do. I wanted to go to service, listen to the pastor, give my offering, say amen then go home and proceed with the rest of my life. In fact, this cycle and my view about doing ministry continued until my late 20s. As a seminarian looking back on my childhood, I discovered my family's church habits were the norm for people at that time. My grandmother did not believe women should to wear pants because they were things that "pertain to a man (Deuteronomy 22:5)" and the skirt should always be a modest length. I could not see it at that time, but, unknowingly, while I was grumbling and complaining about my clothes and the time we spent in church, the other believers were instilling biblical values in me that would manifest later in life. My relationship with God between ages 18 and 26 is similar to the people in the last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Community Service At Northview Church Community Service is not strange to me because I have been doing community service at Northview Church since the beginning of my sophomore year in high school. When I saw the assignment that I have to complete 4 hours of community services, I knew that Northview church was my first choice. Northview church was found by Tommy Paino in October 1980. There were only 30 people in the cafeteria of Carmel Elementary School where they formed the church which later become Northview Church. Three years later, in the month of July, 1983. 285 people attended the last service at Carmel Elementary School, then they moved to the church's new place which is located at 131st and Gray Road. In the late 1985, the church bought an 81–acre of land located at the highest point in Hamilton County on the southwest west corner of Main Street in the city of Carmel. This is the place the church is currently located at ("Northview Church History"). Throughout my service, I learned that the church's mission is to connect people with God and connect people with people. They value relationships, spiritual growth, and the ability to reach out to those who are far from God. During my four hours of community service, I did many things such as mowing grass, throw wastes into the dumpster by driving a tractor, and clean the sidewalk by using a wind blower. To other people, it may seem like that there are just light duty work, but to me every work done will make the community look better no matter how light ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Venus By Angelica Monologue It was a long cold morning in the midst of October, in our "extravagant" town of Venus. It was the start of our weekend in our town, where the clouds lay low and the people somehow always know. It was fall. The leaves unrolling and falling throughout the town. The sound of the winds whistling across the cramped streets. The people are involved in everything, and always seem to make mistakes. Which sadly doesn't always end well. A caring town, but not very forgiving. People die and people sin. A town that revolves around the church, but yet is full of sin. That's Venus for you. A small town but full of madness. It all happened during that period of fall. On one October morning, the leaves falling and the skies as grey as the moon. I lay there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Ushering in Church THE ROLE OF USHERING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH The Scriptural Foundation for Ushering Ushering in your local church involves much more than shaking hands and shining your shoes. Some churches think that ushers are just bucket passers, so they grab anybody to pass the bucket. "Let's just grab ol' Larry when he comes walking in. Let's just get anybody." You don't want to get just anybody, because you don't want an anybody offering. You have been selected as an usher; you are in the ministry of helps, employed by Almighty God. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, HELPS, governments, diversities of tongues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tasks Involved in Ushering Many churches seem to demoralize an usher's duties, thinking they are very limited and unimportant. However, the duties of an usher range far beyond passing buckets and shaking hands and encompass weighty and meaningful tasks. I specifically define these duties in four areas. Assist the Pastor Number one, an usher assists the pastor and helps him bring his vision for the local church to fulfilment. As an usher, your presence will build up and add to the wellbeing of your church. The pastor stands up and says, "It's time for an offering." When an army of ushers stand and come forth, that impresses people. They think, "Wow, look at those people who are here to serve." Sadly, in some churches, when the pastor gets up to take an offering, he has to say, "Could we have some help? Is there anybody here who wants to serve God? Somebody jump up, and give us a hand here! We need some help over here or over there." People are watching this thinking "Hmm, I wonder what's going on around here? Nobody wants to assist the pastor." Meet and Greet Number two, an usher is God's public relations man and represents the church to every new visitor. Because the pastor of a large church cannot

We serve dinner meals and lead a Christian worship service to homeless, hurting, and hungry people of New Orleans. This August was the second time I went along with my church to volunteer. We went out with two of our pastors, five youth volunteers, six adult volunteers, and one of our church's music groups. When we arrived, we set up tables and chairs in the large eating room. Then, our music group led a worship service in the chapel for the people who came in that night. We snuck out halfway through the sermon to begin serving and setting out meals on all of the tables. • 13. Essay On Sense Of Place Sense of Place I've gone to the same church in Hartford almost every Sunday since I was born. The old building holds countless number of memories for my family and me. It has set the stage for a number of Christmas plays and Sunday School concerts. It's where my little brother and I were baptized, and just recently it was where my goddaughter, Aurora, was baptized. After 20 years of marriage, it was where my parents renewed their vows, and a year later, it was where we held the funeral for my dad after he lost his battle with cancer. When it's not a place of worship on Sunday mornings, it's a daycare, where I work and care for a group of rowdy three–year–olds. In my 19 years of membership, the church has seen three different Pastors and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now instead of running through the parking lot to climb the tree, I get to walk past the place where it used to be planted every day when I lead my class out to the playground. Life flew by incredibly fast, and now instead of being one of the kids in the church, I'm one of the adults taking care of them. In high school I taught Sunday school, and it was only then that I realized how difficult it was to coordinate a Christmas program; if I could I'd apologize to every choir leader and Sunday School teacher who was in charge of me and my obnoxious group of friends when we were little. It takes an incredible amount of patience to get kids where they need to be, on time and happy, and I know I'm nowhere near perfect at it, but I do my best to mimic the teaching styles of those who taught me. In my three years working at the daycare I've bounced around from age–group to age–group, but for the majority of my employment I have been with the same group of kids. When I first started, they were the rowdiest group of three–year olds the daycare had ever seen and they were in desperate need of an extra set of hands, that's why they hired me. • 14. My First Experience At Bridgetown Church My first experience at Bridgetown church was very long overdue and very interesting. Most all of my friends and family all have been inviting me to Bridgetown specifically because they all really enjoy a specific pastor there that speaks on Sunday services. I never saw the need to go, mainly because of my night shifts are scheduled so oddly I was afraid of falling asleep at a religious sermon that I was not interested in embarrassing myself at and also not wanting to go out of my way to attend something that I was not particularly interested in. Bluntly writing I did not want to waste my time to go to something I wasn't very excited about, especially when I do not know what to expect. This assignment did give the opportunity a bigger reason and I am glad to have been able to make such an insightful visit that I may not mind trying again in the near future. The Bridgetown church service gathers in a historical Portland church that has beautiful architecture, called the First Baptist Church. Located on SW 11th and Taylor Street almost in the heart of downtown Portland. I went to the very last service of three, given every Sunday, held at 7pm, known for young adults because of its close location to Portland State University. The fact that there are three services given in one day was very shocking to me, that a community of people would devote to doing the same exact thing three times once a week seems very time consuming and loyal to me. The experiences I had were not too far from each other meaning they weren't really all that different. The First Church I went to was Frazer. When I first got there I was a little confused because I didn't really know anybody at first. But as I got in to the church and started to meet more people I felt very welcomed like I was meant to go the church. When the service started the first thing that happened was the Youth Minister came and spoke to us. • 16. Religious Metaphors In The Story Of Langston's Salvation Salvation means for most people that this is when their perception changes in life and about life. Salvation is when someone comes to a certain realization that things around them are changing, and the way they once looked at life is now different. Salvation relates to the story of a young individual in this story name Langton that was saved from his own innocence. Langston was a twelve year old who majority of his time in the church with his aunt. As he grew up he saw the many changes of people and faces the church. Langston was starting to lose faith. He did not know if he should believe there was a Jesus. Langston gave up hope on Jesus when he was lost and confused, and he felt there was no one there to help him in his time of need. Hughes' faced some challenging experiences and this demonstrated to him how adults may confuse children, especially when adults don't take the time to explain the religious metaphors children are trying to understand. Langston's, Auntie Reed is primarily responsible for his loss of faith at an early age. Langston's aunt should of taken the time explaining to Langston that Jesus' words were as they appear in The Sermon on the Mount serve as a useful guide for living one's life, she told him that "when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to your insides!" At that point when Langston heard those words he was more confused than before. Langston wanted to make sense of the information his Auntie Reed was sharing with him but he ... • 17. Experience at a Church Service of the Amazing Grace Church... 1.1History of Christianity Christianity is the religion based on the life, death and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, also known as the Christ or Messiah. Jesus was a Jewish teacher and prophet who lived in Palestine in the first century CE. He revealed himself to be the Son of God in fulfillment of Hebrew scripture, and taught that the Kingdom of God was imminent, bringing with it forgiveness and new life for all who believed. His claim to be the Messiah roused opposition from religious and political authorities and he was imprisoned and crucified. His followers believe that after his death, Jesus was resurrected before being taken up to heaven. 1.2The Amazing Grace Church On the Sunday of 4th October 2009 our group went to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 2: The Worship Service 2.1 The Songs Worship comes in different forms depending on how the church wants the service to proceed. For the Amazing Grace Church, the service began with the congregation singing a number of worship songs to the Lord that lasted for about an hour. Christian praise and worship by music, and in fact, music is a great tool for helping them feel closer to God. Music is an emotional language because it effectively affects their emotions and the lyrics can swell their hearts. There is nothing bigger and greater than the grace of God that is delivered to them from condemnation through the sacrifice of his own Son. Thus, Christian chooses to praise and worship Him by singing. While singing, the congregation stands on their feet and they seem to be affected by the songs in some way as they raise their hands as a sign of accepting the Lord into their hearts. The emotion that was thrown from the congregation was very distinctive to us as we could see that the songs are an important tool of expression. According to the pastor of the Amazing Grace Church, singing let the people focus on the worship, helps them respond to God's grace and also guide them to reflect on God's glory. In his opinion, singing mean nothing if people do not respond to what they have sang and related it to God and reflect it to make them better believers. 2.2 Body Gestures As the hour long worship session was proceeding, we noticed that most of the ... In "the bible belt", religion is very integrated into both the local and regional cultures, demonstrated by higher attendance in religious activities and more religion affiliated establishments per square mile. The purpose of this paper is to understand how religion plays a role in the life of women in the south and discuss the ever–changing pressures they feel from their community and family. It will also explore why religious ties in the south are stronger than those of the rest of the nation. When she became a young adult, she began attending the regular church service with her parents. One Sunday during the regular service Janet remembers that the preacher had an "alter calling", which was a special event. The preacher requested that anyone who wanted to be baptized to please come to the altar. Janet said she could feel God asking her to step forward and become baptized, however, she did not step up because her parents did not nod at her that it was all right for her to go up, instead, they just looked up and focused on the preacher. Janet felt she had missed the opportunity to accept her calling from God. Janet felt betrayed by her parents because they had denied her the chance to embrace her religion. These feelings of betrayal lead her to pull away from her parents and her religion. As she progressed through high school, Janet's life revolved less and less around her religion and more and more around her own life. She no longer attended church every Sunday and the very same parents who would not let her embrace her religion began making her feel guilty for not attending services. She remembers her dad leaving for church each Sunday saying he would pray for her. Her community also noticed she was not attending church services and that added to her guilt. • 19. My Current State Of Mind At twenty years old I see my life to be in a very rough patch. I find myself too busy for my own good, filled with stress and anxiety provoking situations. I consider my current state of mind "numb". I am filled with depression and internal battles I know I can 't fight alone yet choose not to seek help from a higher being. In my life right now I do not belong to a church. I may still participate in church events, but that's because my local church relies on me to do their marketing, advertising, and event planning. The congregation may still consider me part of the church, but I don't. Growing up I attended church consistently with my mother and brother. Every Sunday we would go to Sunday school for an hour then sit in service for another hour and a half. This is what I did until my junior year in high school when my Sunday school class dissolved from lack of attendees and I chose to only attend services sporadically. At that point I thought the church had nothing for me, no benefit. All my friends and peers whom I had grown up with left or stopped attending and I lost the social aspect I craved every Sunday. Church shouldn't be about seeing friends and playing football on the church lawn, but it is a part of the church many people enjoy the most. The sense of community and family is what brings and keeps people together. My church is one hundred years old. Crestmont has many special features. It has a kitchen, some classrooms, a nursery, a cafe, and a baptismal. In addition to Sunday worship, the church is used for weddings, VBS, committee meetings, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and birthday parties, and special events. My church is also used as a voting poll but the Pastor and the Elders do not let people advertise for the candidates. They teach our church Biblical truths so that they can make their own decisions about who to vote for. In our sanctuary we have 5 flags in the very front. The five flags are the American flag, the Christian flag, the Jordanian flag, the Dominican Republic flag and the Florida state flag. The latter three flags represent the countries and states that are in a missionary partnership with Crestmont. We have a multitude of flags along the side of my church that represent the countries the Christian Missionary Alliance partner with. We have a communion table with multiple names of Christ on it. (It was donated to the church in memory of my Grandfather.) We also have stain glass windows but they don't have a specific purpose, they just make the sanctuary more reverent. There is a large wooden cross above the baptismal which is the focal point of the sanctuary to represent that Jesus was crucified for us. Sunday morning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then they began to attend Oasis and their experience here allowed them to heal and regain their faith. That is the comment that excites me the most. And, to recognize that there are people who would say they had their "negative experience" at Oasis Church is one of the most painful things that I can think of. Church proclamation as the material of Dogmatics While I read this part, I was wondering what the three guys would think of the best way for churches to help non–believers to come to faith. It might be very speculative, since they didn't explicitly write about it. However, I want to imagine what they would answer if I ask to them. All of them would agree that coming to faith is up to God's sovereignty. However, they would also agree that God may use the church as a secondary cause. Then, what could be the best way to help those who attend church but yet to come to faith? Schleiermacher In On Religion, Schleiermacher argues that religion is not to be identified with either knowledge or action. It lies at the deeper level of our being, and we could discover that the true seat of religion is feeling. (41) Also in Christian Faith, he asserts the same statement that "The piety which forms the basis of all ecclesiastical communions is, considered purely in itself, neither a Knowing nor a Doing, but a modification of Feeling, or of immediate self–consciousness." (5) According to his view, we need to help non–believers to feel their self–consciousness. How? First of all, Schleiermacher might disagree with the idea of teaching doctrine. He says that Doctrines are only the shadows of our religious emotions (On religion, 8). Through Josef's mouth, he says that "all speech making too tedious and cold." Humans are flawed fleshly beings, therefore whenever in the true presence of God a transformation from old to new should occur. We should feel so convicted about our transgressions until we have an earnest desire to change. The flesh dies and slowly loses control of our lives, leaving the Holy Spirit to freely dwell. Ironically enough the next topic he mentioned was praise. He talked about a song which was sung by the choir "Praise is what we do" and he couldn't understand the relevance behind these words. Once again, I slowly raised my hand and injected that praise is what we do, worship transcends beyond these parameters as an act of honoring and revering God. Worship is the entire church experience. • 32. My Spiritual Journey A spiritual journey is the search of God in our lives. This journey often helps us to find the true inner meaning in our life. It doesn't matter whether you go to church or not, nature is leading us to God. My spiritual journey began when I first moved to the United States. I was four years old when I left Haiti with my father and twin brother and heartbroken to leave my mom behind. My dad seized the opportunity to go to America where he would create a better future for us. Growing up was hard because, for most of my life, my mom was absent. But I was fortunate, and even without the guidance of my mom, I learned perseverance that one day we'd reunite. This was the major step towards finding my faith and becoming a child of God. The church became a place that I would go to pray to God in hopes of reuniting with my mother. Every Sunday, my brother and I would attend church services by ourselves. My father could not attend because he had to work many jobs to support us as well as my mother in Haiti. Life was hard on me because I felt a part of me wasn't complete. Attending Saint Mary's church somehow seemed to fill that void. I enjoyed going to Sunday services so much that my brother and I decided to attend Sunday school. In Unholy Sonnet 14 by Mark Jarman, he illustrates how the congregation is becoming more of a social organization than a faith–based community mainly because of the routine it follows. The poem reveals how the typical congregation seeks for sin to be forgiven. However, it also suggests that a congregation's conventional dull routine cannot relive the pain of sin when it remains in the heart of the individual. The octave of the poem describes the events of a typical church service, in the order they commonly occur. Prayer occurs first, hymn/singing is the second, sermon third, communion forth, and hand–wringing fifth and last. At first, it may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last sentence of the poem, ""There is still murder in your heart" (14), is a powerful claim that suggests that a routine consisting of prayer, communion, or hymn singing will not dissolve the sin of the heart. There is an image in the middle of the poem, "light swords" (7), that possibly represents sharp members of the congregation trying to deceive the church authorities and God. Their comfort to the routine is remarkable because it does not really make a difference at the end; the only thing that truly matters is the masked life they are trying to keep hidden. They were very kind and help us to move our bags inside and show us around. In the church guys slept in one room while girls slept in the other. In the guys room we set up our air mattresses and cots to sleep on. We had enough space in the room that really everyone got their own personal corner and outlet. We socialize with each other until more groups started to arrive then we would go and introduce ourselves and socialize with them as well. There ended up being one group from New Jersey and one from South Carolina. After socializing for about two or three hours, we were called to the social room, which also acted as a dining hall for the week. We ate dinner and then went back to our rooms. We went and got to know eachother better until eight and then we went back to the social room. What I found I was not expecting at all. They had a band and a singer that was singing Christian music. That night they went over expectations and rule that would have to be followed throughout the week. One of the staff members, whose name was Rachel, gave a sermon about a reading for that day. We split into our groups for the next four days to serve the community. In selecting different roles in the group I chose to be the lunch devo guy. My job entailed that I bring the lunch devotional every day. After we were done singing songs and praising God, we went back to our room and got ready for bed. Lights out time was a eleven o'clock sharp. I feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Church Service Reflection In June 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on a mission trip to Haiti. While this whole experience was outside of my cultural norms, I found that the church service was specifically unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The church located on the campus of Mission of Hope: Haiti, was constructed in the form of a crucifix. I honestly had no idea what to expect from the Sunday morning church service. Before the church service began, my friend and her family made sure that I took my own bible and journal to church, since the message was spoken in Haitian Creole. I knew that we were in Haiti serving those who were living in poverty, but to my surprise the Haitians who attended the church service were dressed in very nice clothing. I believe this was the biggest stereotype going into the church service. After spending time in nearby villages and interacting with the Haitian people, I did not think they would have the means to have such nice clothing. I love that throughout the week they wear casual clothing and on Sundays wear their best clothing. That reminded me a lot about how I was raised. As a child, I always had to wear a skirt or dress to church. This younger kids reminded me of myself. Enriching awareness This experience allowed me to understand the universal Church better. It was such a cool thing to experience the worship that was included in the service. The songs were sung in Creole, but I could sing the words in English because I was able to ... This serves as the permanent remnant from the years that Davis spent while dealing in drugs. He was a drug addict who was further convicted for murdering a 54 year old lady from Irving, ... • 37. Importance Of Observation On Church Service Intro In this paper I have invited my wife's Abuela to our church one Sunday morning and I will be observing and asking her questions after the service. My observation will include my thoughts of what she thinks and I will ask questions about what her thoughts are of the service and other topics we have had in our religious class. Background A short background of Abuela is that she is from Puerto Rico, 87 years old, speaks mostly Spanish, no husband and she loves her great grandkids a lot. I think it's a grandmother thing to just hand money out and give whatever to the kids because the kids love it when she comes. Last year we attended St. Patrick Catholic church here in San Antonio and when Abuela came this summer, this past weekend I figured that I would have something to do my paper on. We have attended her Catholic church before and although she likes it dearly, it is not for my family so we asked if she would attend our church. Observation While in Church Service. Throughout the church service I would glance over just to get an indication as to what Abuela's thought were, was she engaged or not into the service message. When we first walled up to our church which is of Christian religion / belief. Abuela mentioned that there wasn't a Holy water area prior to entering but she went through the motions as if there was. I realized something throughout the service, that Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and the service was in English so I knew that we had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My role as a volunteer was to check in the refugee clients. As a volunteer at Church World Service, I could not get to be involved with the clients because of confidentiality purposes. They have been through a lot. Some things we could not even imagine. And when they come to America, they are dealing with culture shock. These refugees are not here to destroy America. They are here because they believe in the American dream. These refugees have been through a lot and just want to be seen as an American citizen. I think for me the most important thing is to educate Americans on refugees. 9.What social welfare policy issues do you see affecting the agency now or in the future? I think a social welfare policy that can become an issue would be public assistance. Church World Service provides different programs to help the refugees on their path to becoming an American citizen. Church World Service is funded by government as well as grants. Anything could stop money from coming in to help these refugees. Public housing is another issue. Landlords want income history and credit. Things that these people do not have. These could be big issues for this agency. It is becoming harder and harder for staff at Church World Service to find housing for these families, especially the bigger ... You promised that nice boy next door that you would. You don't want to disappoint him now, do you? Why, he seems like such a nice boy. He's another Army soldier, isn't he? That's what you said the other night when you told me to make sure you got up this morning because he was going to church with us. You are going to church, aren't you? Well, you're not gonna do it by staying in bed all morning. You need to get up ... get up, George! NOW!" "Damn it, Millie, shut up and leave me alone" thought George. Did you understand me that time?" retorted George. "You know, George, sometimes you really make me mad" said Millie. She turned, grabbed her purse and car keys, and walked out the back door, slamming it behind her. "You'll get over it" laughed George. He almost felt bad about making her mad, but it made up for her getting him up early for no reason. She still had an extra hour before Sunday School started. He imagined she'd drive around mad for a while and finally cool off by the time it started.
