Book Review: The Red Tent/ Goddesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves: Women in Classical
Women throughout history have always proven to be complex. Getting into the mind of women is uncharted territory, proven to be very complex.
Women have always fallen inferior to men for as long as we know. Even now that women have gained most of the same rights as men, they still are not
treated the same. Evolution of women through history has been a long–sought battle, and their roles in society are always changing. Women are
versatile compared to men, which is a very undervalued trait. These two books only touch on some of the many roles that women can play. Sarah

Her job to inform us on women in the Greek and Roman times and she has succeeded. One thing that was beneficial in making the books objective so
easy to comprehend was the layout of the book. First she starts by going back through history and progressing through the goddesses and their roles
and beginnings in classical mythology. This helps the novice reader to understand the basics of the history she is going to talk about. Pomeroy then
ventures out and begins to talk about Homer. Homer was a very influential writer and many of the perceptions of what a woman's role was in society. To
further help the understanding of the topics she will touch on in her book she begins talking about the story of Pandora to give show how the attitude
directed towards women was at this time, and how it has shaped the view of women even dating back to the Bronze Ages.
The most resourceful technique that Pomeroy uses is talking about the powerful women of this time, such as: Athena, Aphrodite and Hera. Many
people grew up in school learning about these goddesses, so the mention of these brings about a familiarity to the reader. This is the point where we
begin to compare and contrast these powerful goddesses and to the other infamous women and we see how they may begin to confuse these roles and
the ones they play

Personal Narrative: Pemberton Music Festival
We sat in a little guest house above the garage, packing up the necessities and drinking tea all night. In exactly three days we were planning on
leaving for a trip that would without a doubt go down in the books, Pemberton Music Festival. I received tickets to Pemberton for my birthday, not
only was this my first music festival but it was in Canada! I would be attending the music festival with my boyfriend Kyle, and his two best friends
Dashiell and Casey. The three days passed by in no time and before I knew it we were on our way, adventuring to Canada in a small, extremely tightly
packed Ford Focus. On the 5 hour drive, we listened to everything from Dashiell's over the top EDM music to the good old classic Beatles. We had
decided to drive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We had stayed on the South side, little did we know this was the mostly Canadian side. All of our Bainbridge friends had boughtcamping passes to the
North side, which was another trek all the way around the festival venue. About half an hour later, we reached the North side and met up with
some of our buddies. I finally had found my friends Hannah and Julia, we caught each other's eyes and I had sprinted forward with open arms
giving them each a big hug. After a couple hours of drinks and hanging out, the boys, Hannah, Julia and I decided to head to the festival. The
bright sky had started to darken, we all had grabbed each other's hands and skipped passed thousands of people. We watched Joey Bada$$,
Flosstradamus, J. Cole and Miguel perform that night. The boys put us on their shoulders, and we had started to sing along to every word we
knew. I had never felt so close and connected with a group of people before this experience. The luminescent white lights hit my face at the same
time as the sudden rain. The rain poured so hard soaking every inch of my body. I had looked over to see all my friends with grins and the
inconsistent flashes of concert lights on their faces. Julia and Dashiell were hugging like there was no tomorrow and shouted all the lyrics to Miguel's

Personal Narrative Story : A Short Story
"I'm so excited!" I said, as we were loading the supplies into the car. I picked up the cooler and loaded it into the back of the truck. My long brown
hair brushed my face while the bright warm sun of the afternoon warmed me. Then, I started loading other things into the car, not exactly knowing
where they were supposed to go.
"Calm down Lexi." My mom said. "We have to make sure they are in the right places so everything can fit." "Sorry,"I said, "I just can't wait." My
mom smiled. I just couldn't stay still though. I was like a little kid on too much sugar! I have been waiting for this camping trip forever. It was also
going to be my first camping trip so I didn't really know what to expect. The part that most excited me was the part of sleeping in the tent. It would be a
little different then my normal bed. It was also probably going to be are big last thing before school started again so I wanted to enjoy it.
"Me too!", said my little sister. She looked so cute with her dirty blond type hair pinned up in the back. Be we got so bored me, my little brother and
sister chased each other and played games while waiting for my cousins to arrive. I was getting a little antsy after the time started to tick away.
"Where are they?" I thought. Finally, after finishing up the rest of the packing, they arrived. They are a family of 4 kids and 2 adults and have a big
giant bus. You can always tell when my cousins are around when you see the white vehicle.

How To Write A Short Story : A Short-A Story?
It was a bright day, the sun was out. Everybody was leaving their houses and approaching to the Taqueria de Anda to meet up. We are heading out
to a tropical island named Terrifiant Island. We have ordered an Uber to take us to the docks so we can rent a boat. Unfortunately, none of us
knew how to steer it, so we hired a fisherman from Google. As we arrived in our Uber at the docks, we noticed the cramped boat. The fisherman
was loading his baggage, including life vests. They were old and ragged, but we tried not to think too much of it. After all, we did look for a ride
to the island on Google. It was cheap, why not? What is the worst that can happen? We loaded our bags onto the boat and packed an emergency
bag. It included a small knife, four snack sized bags of goldfish crackers, three full canteens of fresh water, and five small flashlights that run on 2
D sized batteries. As we stepped on the boat, it creaked and the fisherman smiled, but it didn't look like a friendly smile. It looked like a smile that
was hiding something, but we can't judge people on their looks. "Hey, may I see your fisherman's license?" Asked Allan. The fisherman handed the
license to Allan. He observed it, and realized his name was Joe Rossel. The license wasn't expired yet, but it will be in twenty years. Was it a fake
license? He gave it back and smiled. Nine o'clock A.M. It was finally time to depart from the docks. The sky was blue, and the temperature felt warm.

Personal Narrative : The Forest Of Laughter
The Forest of Laughter As our first camping trip, we were quite new to the outdoors. This was the first time we have ever really did anything
outdoors except for going on hikes other than that we were quite an indoor family. My dad happened to have the greatest idea of going camping but
we really did not know how to do a lot of stuff when it comes to outdoor activities especially setting up a tent. I remember when we first picked out
where we were going camping, I did some research on the history of this forest. Of course my parents decided not to do any research on this place at
all. As I typed it into my laptop, several videos and websites came up. I clicked on one of the videos where it says, Staying The Night In The Forest of

The world felt like it was spinning around and around.
I eventually got so scared I ran back to the tent but it was too quiet and I started yelling, "MOM! DAD!"
Then I heard someone screaming from inside the tent. I opened up the tent to find my sister scrunched up in the corner screaming and covering her ears.
"Leslie it 's me your brother, chill!" I yelled so she could hear me.
I grabbed her and pulled her into my arms so I could comfort her. She finally stopped screaming and I got her to tell me what happened.
"I turned around and there was a big black figure standing behind me and then all of a sudden I hear, WOOOSH. Then everything went black.
When I finally got up I was in the tent. I went outside to see where mom and dad were but they were nowhere to be found, " she said with a terrified
look on her face. By the way she looked, I could tell that she was not playing a prank on me like most of the other times. It just seems like I could trust
her just this one time.
"We have to go looking for them," I told her.
"What if the thing comes back, what if it's not done? It might want more?" she said while trembling.
"I have an idea don 't worry." I said trying to lighten up the situation.
"Let 's use light," she said, "it might affect it."
I took her word for it and grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out to the fire and said, "Come on there is a forest guide center not far from here, I

Main Characters In The Red Tent By Anita Diamant
An act or mistake made one can cause great distress and hardships in the lives of those around them. The novel The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
follows the life of a young girl into woman hood as well as her mother's and aunt's. The main character, Dinah, is affected by the acts of two of her
brothers. Dinah's brothers murder Dinah's husband, and first love, as well as his family. The aftermath of her brothers heinous crimes are affect Dinah
and her future.
Dinah was the only girl born by Jacob and his four wives. Her mother Leah, Jacob's first wife, raised her with the aid of her three sister, all who
shared the same husband as Leah. After having grown up as second youngest alongside her 12 brothers Dinah reached womanhood with elegance and
grace due to the teachings of the women around her. She was taught from a young age the work of a midwife through her mother–auntie Rachel and
Inna, a close family friend. Rachel and Inna worked together as midwives and delivered many children for any women that sought their help.
However, as time grew on Inna grew older it was hard for her to travel and assist in births. To make up for Inna's absence Rachel took Dinah ton as
her apprentice. One particular job called Dinah and her aunt to the city of Shechem to deliver the son of the king's concubine. While visiting the palace
she meets the prince Shalem and instantly falls in love with him. "... Shalem, whose name I had not even learned, whose presence made me dumb and
weak." (Diamant

Essay The Red Tent by Diamant
The Red Tent by Diamant
In Diamant's powerful novel The Red Tent the ever–silent Dinah from the 34th chapter of Gensis is finally given her own voice, and the story she tells
is a much different one than expected. With the guiding hands of her four "mothers", Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah, all the wives of Jacob, we grow
with Dinah from her childhood in Mesoptamia through puberty, where she is then entered into the "red tent", and well off into her adulthood from
Cannan to Egypt. Throughout her journey we learn how the red tent is constantly looked upon for encouragement, solace, and comfort. It is where
women go once a month during menstration, where they have their babies, were they dwell in illness and most importantly, where ... Show more content

This act is translated into todays concept of rape, but as the narrative continues we see how Shechem tries to justify his manner by claiming he fell
victim to love. "Being drawn to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and in love with the maiden, he spoke to the maiden tenderly" (Genesis 34:3). This,
however, is not admissible in the eyes of Israel's men. Shechem's behavior is considered "an outrage in Israel...a thing not to be done", and
therefore, hinders Shechem's aspiration of marriage to her (Genesis 34:7). One of the ways he is able to seek mercy is by offering Dinah's
brothers and father a high bride price. This offering along with a promise for all men to be circumcised in accordance with God's command to their
grandfather Abraham: "This is my covenant between Me and you and your offspring to follow which you shall keep: every male among you shall
be circumcised," is a fitting plea to their ears and Dinah is wed off (Genesis 17:10). But what about Dinah's ears? Who is to say that she wants to
marry this man who defiled her? What is her view on it all?
Ironically, there is no mention of Dinah's feelings or thoughts throughout Genesis 34. All the attention focuses not on Dinah, but the men around her.
The one who is affected the most throughout this whole ordeal is somehow left in the shadow. There even is no reference to how she succumbs to
being raped, and later deceived by her own blood.
After the entire male community gives consent

The Day Of The Camping Process
Everyone feels the need to get away from his complicated lives now and then. There is no better way to simplify life than camping. Being unplugged
from the busy world might be hard, but it is well worth it. From the beginning to the end there are many excellent experiences and sensations camping
can provide to anyone.
The start of the camping process is the most difficult, but a crucial part none the less. Waking up good and early, the room is filled with a bright,
orange early sunrise light. The air is cool and crisp, the faint sound of birds chirping enters through the window and the smell of breakfast passes the
through the doorway into the room. Throwing the checkered blanket aside and rising from the warm bed feels like ... Show more content on

The poles are made of a smooth, light metal and are surprisingly cold. Next comes folding the actual tent. For the most part the tent feels kind of
grainy, it is made mostly of a thin nylon material but occasionally there is mesh window or a metal zipper. Placing the folded tent into its brown
cardboard box proves to because somewhat difficult as air was trapped inside while folding it. Finding the zipper and pressing down on the tent
releases the trapped air and the faint smell of dust. Luckily most of the packing was done yesterday so all that is left is loading the camping
necessities into the bed of the very large, torch red truck. Blue and black leather bags filled with all sorts of clothing, a cooler filled with food, a box
with minor cooking utensils and much more almost are loaded into one big colorful mess in the back of the truck. And with that it is time to head off
to the camp site.
With most of the tedious activities out of the way the real camping experience can begin. After a long drive stepping out of the vehicle and being
greeted by nature is a blessing. The sounds of nature are music. Birds chirp a high pitch melody, animals rustle away through the brush and bushes
and swarms of bugs frantically fly around the camp site. Blowing wind shakes the trees and carries a pure smell not commonly found in the city. No
car exhaust or smoke in it, just the pure smell of

Camping Is A Holiday Inn
Camping just isn 't my thing, I told my husband when we married. "I love being outside and doing outdoor activities, but my idea of camping is a
Holiday Inn." He was disappointed as he had spent many of his summers camping with his grandparents along the Mokelumne River.
I stuck to my guns about going camping and we were married many years before I agreed to give it a try. One summer I agreed to take a week and go
camping with him in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. I was assured the bathrooms were clean and well kept and that there would be hot showers. I
was a little perturbed when I found out there were no street lights or telephones. But I adapted. I didn 't complain and had a very good time.
Some evenings we went to the Campfire Center in Big Trees to enjoy whatever event or program was taking place. Those evenings, without any
street lights and no moon, the path back to our camp site was really dark. I couldn 't see anything but just held on to Bill so I wouldn 't fall or step on
a snake. Although, I never saw a snake while camping and I didn 't fall down.
At the Campfire Center in Big Trees on Sunday morning a worship service was held by a local pastor. Since we attended church regularly on
Sunday at home, we didn 't feel we could opt out of church just because we were camping. There was a brief message by the minister and lots of
singing. I love lots of singing in church. I have sometimes wished we could sing longer at church and shorten the minister 's sermon (no

My Last Day
One of those summer nights with your friends when you just want to go out and have the time of your life , yea this was the night. I started off

it out at my friends house Dominic ,who lived in the ghetto with a bunch of siblings that never left anybody alone when Dominic had people come

Rough Draft Short Story
After a very long day of packing and loading things into our trailer, me, my brother, and my parents decided to hit the road and get to our campsite
out in the desert. The trip was only about an hour drive and as soon as we arrived, we set up camp immediately. My dad is very dexterous and set up
our fancy house tent in no time. The tent was a weird beige and orange color that had fake windows and everything, which means that it was pretty
ostentatious because my family didn't need a tent of that size. By that time it was getting dark so we just all piled our things in the tent and dozed off.
In the morning, we all got breakfast and played around until about noon, when we decided to take our two ATV's for a spin. I put on my little red

Novice Campers And Camping Checklist Essay
Novice Campers, as well as seasoned campers, should prepare a camping checklist of the gear that they should include when packing for a camping
trip. It is easy to get side tracked and possibly forget important items without a checklist.
Sometimes it is easy to have a laps in concentration and simply not include small items that are none the less important. If you have a standard "
Camping Checklist" it will help insure you have a safe and happy camping trip, because you will feel confident knowing you have included all
necessary gear you will need while on your trip.
As a seasoned outdoorsman I have been on hundreds of camping trips and until I actually sat down and made my Camping Checklist I was always
forgetting something. I am going to provide you with a gear checklist to help get you started. I hope this checklist will keep you organized as you

Persuasive Essay About Camping
So many of us are so connect today's world, we forget that sometimes a break from it all will help us replenish and reconnect. Camping is the perfect
way to do just that. You can go camping in many ways, tent camping, in an RV, cabins or a yurt. However, let's focus on tent camping.
When and How long
First, you need to decide how long are you going to stay? I have found that 2 nights 3 days is the perfect length. The length is dependent how much
food you want to bring, how many clothes you want to pack, how much money you are willing to spend. Next, find a weekend that you are free and
make that the weekend the have a mini–vacation. The best times for camping are in the spring and early fall. If you want to be adventurous then, by all
means, try camping in the summer or winter, burrrr.
Pack; Be prepared
After you have decided when you go and where to go you'll need to start packing. It is always beneficial to be prepared. You'll need to bring food,
enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all the days you are staying. Note: you can cook up food before you leave, then freeze it when you pack
it in the cooler it will start to thaw, then when you go to eat it, all you have to do is heat it up over the fire, or propane stove if you have one. We
normally have sloppy, joes, Frito pie, and sandwiches. Secondly, pack utensil, pots, pans, plates, cups, bowls, and anything that you might think is
helpful when cooking and eating. If you plan on tent camping, you want to bring

The word lost was becoming more operative by the moment. The morning 's ice fishing over at nearby North Pond had been fine. After I ate my fish
cakes back in my cabin at Mohawk Mountain, heat radiating from the wood stove, I 'd felt warm enough to peel down to a t–shirt and read. That was
this morning.
The night before I 'd wandered the forest 's central fire roads savoring the night air and watching the shadows my headlamp cast into the woods. One
can relax well in the woods in winter at night: that soothing sense of aloneness you feel at night under a canopy of stars in the winter.
Now I was stumbling around through the snow–filled woods, bushwhacking. I was searching for the route to either Adams or North Adams, whichever
came first, map in one hand, orienteering compass in the other, as I took in the woods ' contours, trail bends, and ice–covered stream beds. Where the
heck was I?
Back in the cabin awaited two panfish in a cooler, a steak too if I wanted it, and a block of blue cheese big the size of housebrick. What I wanted was
the trail called Blackburnian Loop. As for where I was –––
BINGO!
there it was: the beaver dam and trail I recognized from a trip here last year.
Yes. Once again I 'd successfully made it back from one of my classic lost–in–the–woods hikes. I thumped back into the cabin, lit the stove, took off
my wet socks and sweater, and lifted from my cooler the bigger fish. I cleaned it, pan fried it, ate it, and settled back in the chair with my

Examples Of Feminism In The Red Mrs Dalloway
Introduction
Since the ancient times women suffer from different forms of injustices on account of their sex. Women are suppressed in our patriarchal society. The
family is patriarchal, and it exploits various rights of women. Being a woman, the role of woman in society and family has always fascinated me so I
have chosen the books that are based on feminist perspectives. Feminism is about getting equal rights and opportunities for women and allowing
women to have control over their lives and bodies. Many people believe that women have been disadvantaged and mistreated since ancient times and
men have had more power than women. I have selected the three very interesting novels and they are Eleven minutes by Paulo Coelho (Brazil), The Red

The Red Tent Essay
Midrash is a form of literature of Hebrew theology and philosophy. There are two types of midrash: midrash aggadah and midrash halakha. Midrash
aggadah can best be described as a form of storytelling that explores ethics and values in biblical texts. "It can take any biblical word or verse and
interpret it to answer a question or explain something in the text." – Ariela Pelaia. Whereas midrash aggadah focuses on biblical characters as they
pertain to values and ideas, midrash halakha focuses on Jewish law and practice. Midrash halakha attempts to take biblical texts that are either too
general or unclear and try to clarify what they ultimately means.
The novel, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, retell the story of Dinah seen in Genesis, Chapter 34. In most version of theBible, all interpretations of
Genesis, Chapter 34 infer that Dinah was raped. In the novel Diamant, reinterprets Dinah's "rape" as a misunderstood love affair. Some readers
categorized the narrative The Red Tent as being a midrash but the novel goes beyond traditional midrashim. The story is not considered an... Show

that Dinah travels to Shechem, to deliver a baby in the King's palace where she comes across Shalem, the prince of Shechem. They become

"Ouch!" Nova mumbled as she sat up holding her head. It felt like she had been hit with a baseball bat. Nova was a teenage girl with long black hair.
Her skin was of a dark complexion. Her eyes were blurry because of the terrible headache she had. As she slowly gets up to examine her environs, she
realizes she was in the middle of what seemed to be an abandoned circus tent. There were few rusted metal chairs and leftover rubbage. The
weather–beaten tent was ridden with holes and reeked of mold. Finally, there was one thing to inspect, a rope. She walks over to the rope and pulls it
out of curiosity. Due to this action, the curtain behind her rose, revealing an empty stage. Suddenly, the lights went out. When they came back on she
was in the center of the tent again. The only nuance was the man standing on the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for a very special performance, "Blink!" the man on stage announces. His voice was jaunty and clear. He was

Creative Story : A Short Story
"Ouch!" Nova mumbled, sitting up and holding her head. It felt like She had been hit with a baseball bat. Nova, a teenage girl with long black hair
and skin of a dark complexion, had a terrible headache. While slowly getting up to examine her environs, she realizes she was in the middle of what
seemed to be an abandoned circus tent. It featured innumerable lifeless aspects to the point it didn't look like a circus anymore. There were few rusted
metal chairs and leftover rubbage. The weather–beaten tent was ridden with holes and it reeked of mold. There was one more item to inspect, a rope.
She walks over to the rope and pulls it out of curiosity. Due to this action, the curtain behind her rose, revealing an empty stage. Suddenly, the lights
went out and when they came back on she was in the center of the tent once more; the only nuance was the man standing on the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for a special performance, "Blink!" the man on stage announces. His voice was jaunty and clear. He was dressed in
motley of dark colored raggedy clothes. Abruptly, a sequence of questions shot out of Nova's mouth.

Mother-Daughter Relationships In The Red Tent By Anita...
Importance of Mother–Daughter Relationships in The Red Tent
The strong portrayal of mother–daughter relationships in The Red Tent by Anita Diamant results from the need women, like Leah and Dinah, had to
share their life stories, as well as to create a sense of community among the women living in a patriarchal society.
Diamant places great emphasis on the importance of mother–daughter relationships since women could not share their memories and life stories any
other way. Not unlike the main protagonist, Dinah, women lived in a world controlled by men. Every man had the control over every woman's decisions:
their fathers, their husbands, their sons. Due to the power imbalance, women had a hard time sharing their memoirs. Their memories did ... Show more

Every female character in the novel has a strong community of women around her. This sense of belonging was strengthened by the time spent in
the red tent each month, where men could not come in: "It was unthinkable that a healthy man would walk of his own will inside that place during
the head of the month" (Diamant 117) Men would not enter the red tent because it offered women a place to have for themselves; besides, men did
not wish to associate themselves with these places. Unless injured, a healthy men would not want to be under a roof ruled by women. The red tent
served the purpose of bringing women close together, away from men and away from their daily duties. In a patriarchal society, where men governed,
female relationships helped women cope with problems and misfortunes. Mothers and daughters created a special tie thanks to the time shared in the
tent. When Dinah's mothers officially welcome her to the red tent Dinah realizes: "Now I could pour out wine and make bread offerings at the new
moon, and soon I would learn the secrets that pass between men and women." (Diamant 171) Dinah's relationship with her mothers is fortified after
belonging to the red tent. Since it served as a sanctuary, her mothers would be able to communicate to her what she needs to know about the world. The
bond between Dinah and her mothers strengthened, a bond necessary to

While camping is generally an inexpensive way to spend some time outdoors, the simple meals that follow will can help campers stay to a very
minimal budget. It is important for beginner campers to realize that there are many simple meals that can be made without purchasing specialized
camping cookware (which can be very expensive!). If you don't have any cookware that can be used over an open fire, check out your local thrift
stores for simple cookware that can be used. A frying pan (cast iron is preferable) and pot for boiling water is enough cookware for most camping
trips. There are also many foods that can be cooked in aluminum foil alone without the use of any other cookware. Develop meals around the
materials that you have and foods that you like to assure an inexpensive trip. Here are some cheap and easy to make meal ideas to get you started.
Pancakes make a cheap and easy camping breakfast. A plastic drinking cup with a snap on lid is great for mixing the batter (by shaking the sealed
cup) and pouring onto a pan. Instant rice that is made from boiling water is another inexpensive meal starter. Either eaten alone or with meat and
vegetables, instant rice is filling and very cheap. Other foods made from boiling or hot water that are inexpensive and can be the basis for cheap
camping meals include Ramen Noodles, oatmeal, and instant potatoes. The campfire baked potato is one food that is cheap and easy to make while

Personal Narrative Essay : My Vacations
Once upon a time, my family and I went on a vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. This vacation was an event in my life that sparked a
period of personal growth and a new understanding of my family and myself. This vacation was the first vacation that my dad had planned all by
himself. He was super excited because we were going camping on the beach, and he loved camping. The plan was that we were going to kayak over to
the island we would be staying on with all of our stuff, then kayak back in the morning. That is not how it worked out. What we did not realize was
how far the island was from the actual lodge. I got my own kayak with a tow just in case. My sister and mom shared a kayak, while my dad took a canoe

My dad gave up. He said that he will stay put, while my mom, sister, and I kayaked back to get help. I though that this was a horrible idea, so at that
moment I became the leader of my family. I gave a little motivational speech to get everyone to start paddling. I attached the tow that was on the
back of my kayak on to the front of the canoe and helped pull the canoe back to the lodge. I felt like the most heroic person the world has ever seen.
I turned into what felt like an Olympic kayaker. My adrenaline rushed through me and helped me through the extreme pain my arms were going
through. The hardest part of the way back was the last one hundred feet. A storm had started up and the wind blew my dad and I into a private pier
along the shore. I fought as hard as I could through the current to get us out of there. The wind made it so much worse because it blew directly into
us. With hard work, determination, and coordination, my dad and I finally got out of the private pier which was about one hundred feet away from the
lodge's pier. When people say to do a certain task like your life depended on it that is actually how I felt. My arms felt like they were going to fall off,
but I was so close to the pier and if I gave up, the current and the wind would take my dad and I one hundred feet in the opposite direction we needed
to go. I screamed and yelled at myself to push as hard as I have ever pushed before and finally I made it to the pier. Everyone was

we just have a few things we need from you. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, there's a line of tents along the fence. We will be splitting you all up
by last names and assigning you to one of the tents. Once you get to the tent, the wonderful people there will explain the rest to you!"
The lady clapped her hands together then swapped places a man in a suit identical to hers. "Alright! So, those of you with last names starting with the
letter A through the letter F will be coming with me to the first tent."
A small chunk of the group broke off as the man left the front and headed towards the line of tents. Three more people came and said similar things

The woman who had grabbed his group squeezed to the front of the tent. Her demeanor was much different from the adults Liam had seen earlier.

My Childhood At The Alemany Farmer 's Market
It has been years since I have gone to the Alemany Farmer's Market and walked down the wet concrete to look for fresh vegetables and fruits. As a
four year old, I would wake up at exactly half past five every Saturday morning to get dressed in my warm jacket and make it to the farmer's market
by six. I would hold my mom's hand and walk down the same exact wet concrete sidewalk, playing games with the ground, trying not to step on the
cracks to keep myself busy. My mom would make small talk with the vendors, asking about their lives and how they were doing. She always got
the best groceries, the ones hidden from the public. My favorite vendor was always at the very end of the market where we would get our flowers.
Every Saturday I would run up to her booth with smile and the old Japanese lady would smile back and hand me a flower. The colorful murals and
the smell of the greens and flowers brings back the fond memories of my childhood at the Alemany farmer's market as I walk down the wet concrete
as a high school senior with a different mission in mind. Even though it is a little later in the morning and the market seems to be bustling with more
people than I remembered, the familiar San Francisco fog and encouragement of my mother makes me feel like I had never stopped my Saturday
tradition. Little green tents are set up at the entrance and beyond them are the separate booths and some more white tents. They have canvas tarp signs

One of my favorite places to go as a kid was to the reservoir with my family. We would start packing a few days before we left then my brother and I
would go to school on a Friday then afterwards we would go camping. Every time I would hurry home because I was so ready to go camping. When I
was little I felt like my family and I went camping everyday even though it wasn't. I have so many memories from camping and there so funny. I
love to go camping because you can smell the lake, or you can start a fire which smells so good. When we cook on the fire it smells so good. Waking
up in the morning un zipping the tent and getting out to be able to see the forests is so cool. Sometimes my brother and I will seat in the woods and
watch boats and jet skis go by. While you are falling asleep you hear animals like coyotes or if someone had dogs you will hear them. When I wake
up in the morning to the birds chirping is amazing. Also waking up in the morning when my mom was in the middle of cooking potatoes, eggs, and
sausage for breakfast you could smell it, it was the best smell to wake up to. Then she would make hot coco which made it ten times better.
Some days my family and I would go fishing in daytime but every day at night we would go fishing till 3:00 sometimes earlier. If my brother and I

The Importance Of Camping With Small Children
Many people think taking a toddler camping is just asking for stress, headaches and complications. Actually, your toddler can learn a lot at a young age
from a trip into nature. Camping with small children can be an entertaining experience while giving them the basic skills of life.
–Surroundings
For toddlers, life is one huge learning experience. The simplest, most basic functions of the natural world are fascinating and eye–opening to them.
Camping provides the opportunity to teach your toddlers about nature and observing their surroundings. While sitting around the campsite, imagine
your toddler spotting a leaf falling from a tree and the fascination in their eyes as it slowly floats to the ground. This is an opportunity to teach them
about the different trees, leaves, plants and shrubs that surround them.
–Basic Survival Skills
Children are never too young to begin learning basic survival skills. Here 's one that can be taught in the form of a game. Bring some marbles in a
bag that the toddler can carry. Other items can be used as well, but stick with non–edible ones for this lesson, or one of mother nature 's little creatures
may just eat your lesson materials. Start at the edge of your campsite and choose a path into the woods that is easy enough for them to walk with
you. Have your toddler place marbles on the ground every couple of feet to leave a trail to follow back to your site. Dropping and re–discovering the
marbles will not only be a fun game, but will give

J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, said: "To die would be an awfully big adventure." I believe it would be. I have had many experiences with
almost dying. I have had many experiences where my life had flashed before my eyes. April 4th, 2014, I almost died 27 times. On that date, I looked
death right in the face, and laughed at it.
In the summer, I was supposed to go to a girls camp for my church. There were a few requirements we had to pass off before going. One of them was a
3 mile hike and a camping trip. We decided to hit 2 birds with 1 stone. So we set a date to go camping with the girls who were going to camp. There
were about 16 girls who decided they would go. We set off on our 1 night trip on April 4th, 2014. It started off normal. A regular trail through the
woods. The path started to get thinner and thinner as we walked on it. We then got to a part where we had to go over a log that was partly hanging
over a chasm. I peered over the edge to see thousands of sharp rocks and a large pool of rushing water. After 3 girls had gone over the log safely, it
was my turn. I slowly put my right leg over the enormous log. I had made sure to steady myself before putting my left leg over. After I had done so,
I threw my left leg over and sat on the log. Then I put my right foot on the ground. I thought I was safe, but my left foot 's, shoelace got caught on the
rugged wood. I pulled with force, but that was a bad idea. I got it undone, but that force threw me off balance

I was the last one found in the teepee by my two little sisters. It took them about 20 minutes to find me, and while they were looking for me I could

While I was thinking about what I saw, I remembered the beautiful orange, yellow and red leaves. I also thought about the crisp air blowing into my

My Experience In My Life
Out of all of my adventurous youthful years one event sticks out to me even to this day. Even though now it seems not particularly interesting or
more important than anything else it still somehow persists within my memory. The event of which I am referring to happened around when I was 7,
or maybe I was 6. My parents and I were going on a trip down to bennett springs state park, near Lebanon Missouri, to camp for a weekend. I distinctly
remember my mother waking me up on the car ride there, you see we had left early in the morning so we could be there by sunrise, and seeing said
sunrise. The sky was an entrancing viel of the deepest shades of reds and yellows, with the bright rays of the sun lightly peaking over the canopy of
the proud oak trees like it was a bear slowly crawling out of his cave after a long hibernation. The light would flicker on and off through the trees as
we went down the spindly road until we reached our campsite. My Father had gotten out of the car hastingly and decided that we should get our
fishing supplies and go as soon as possible as the early morning hour was the perfect time to go fishing as they would bite easier. My mother was
hesitant but my father unwilling to give on his decision and somehow convinced her. My Father had started to get all of the fishing equipment out off
from the top of the car. I thought that i should help my dad if possible so i set my eyes on the tackle box inside the trunk. I had struggled to take the

and follows some of the lineage of the bible itself. The book begins by telling the story of Dinah's four mothers, along with their relationship with
Dinah's father Jacob. After being introduced to Dinah herself, the book follows her life story from beginning to end, all the way from Haran, through
Canaan, Shechem, and into Egypt. Throughout this paper, I will be describing and comparing events of the book verses modern day, in relationship to

The women took on responsibility such as spinning fabrics, cooking, and caring for the children. Jacob's main role with his children were to teach
the boys good pasturing when they became of age, along with the ways and religion of his father, and his father's father. Dinah being the only girl
was treated very differently than the boys because she did not go out into the field with her father to learn the skills that he had to offer. Instead, she
stayed in the camp with her mothers and was even permitted into the red tent to learn the stories of her mother's during her youth. In fact, the first
time she recalled her father ever speaking directly to her was just before the left on their trip to Canaan. As the red tent followed the life journey of
Dinah she encountered several different cultures. As she traveled, Dinah was introduced to new family dynamics unlike her own. Men and women
from her mother's culture did not eat with their husbands, or have any real relationship at all with them. Whereas in Egypt, men and women would sit
down beside each other at meals. Husbands would kiss upon their wife's hands and show them affection in public. At first this was unbelievable for
Dinah, as these things would never occur in her own culture. Food and clothing also changed through her journey. Foods in Egypt were very sweet

Comparative Character Analysis on Simeon and Levi from...
Anita Diamant's novel The Red Tent is a Midrash revolved around the biblical passage of Genesis 34: Dinah and the Shechemites. In this story Anita
Diamant gives a voice to Simeon and Levi's sister, Dinah, who is known as the woman who was raped then later loved by Shechem. After Shechem's
injustice of Dinah, Shechem and his city were slaughtered by Simeon and Levi. Both bible passages and the novel The Red Tentprovide some similar
and some different characteristic traits for Simeon and Levi which in turn allows the readers to take away and learn more from the Midrash story. The
readers are able to further involve themselves in the relevance of Dinah's voice and story. Even though Simeon and Levi are separate individuals, for

Simeon and Levi grew through both their experiences of violence and faith. Eventually they repented their sins they brought upon Joseph, their brother.
The most significant aspect of their personalities is their zeal for cruelty and violence. In the Testament of the Patriarchs, it is understood that God
came to both the Simeonites and Levites discussing their enthusiasm for violence. Eventually, even though warned by Simeon, the Simeonites could
not overcome their obsession of cruelty and violence. Therefore, the Simeonites numbers eventually decreased and they were finally absorbed into the
Judahites. The Levites, on the other hand, overcame their zeal for cruelty and violence by focusing their fixation towards God thereby becoming a holy
priesthood.
Through passages in the bible and the Testament of the Patriarchs, Simeon and Levi were characterized as cruel, rash and violent leaders who were
considered righteous in their vengeance of Shechem. But they made many dishonest and immoral decisions such as enslaving Joseph. Even though
they made these dishonest decisions, the Levites were able to sustain and thrive as a holy priesthoodНѕ whereas the Simeonites were unable to change
their ways, this eventually led to their obsolescence. In Anita Diamant's novel, The Red Tent,

Jewish–American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish
life, The Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to

The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: "‘…the dark eyed girl with the curly hair and the fine hands…’"
(Diamant 189). She was a mid–eastern girl, but little else is said of her appearance. Dinah’s character is essential to the novel, as it is a
chronicle of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through
the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah’s
character: "Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the second sound
soft, for whispering secrets on pillows" (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element
in Dinah. "Whispering secrets" proves to be an important element in Dinah’s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to daughter
in a never–ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah’s most prominent
mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve.
They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant illuminates one of the greatest testimonies to women's strength: childbirth. On a creative level, Diamant did something
extraordinary. She took a small passage from the Bible about the character Dinah, and made her story into an unforgettable testimony to women's
strength and power. Overlooking women's role in Biblical life is easy because there is practically nothing written by or about women. Even though
Diamant's story is fictionalized, there is truth in showing that women did exist, that there was a very important role played by women of that time

In the midst of labor, she anguishes over a secret of womanhood revealed only in childbirth; a secret that inspired my piece of visual art, "Dinah:"
Why had no one told me that my body would become a battlefield, a sacrifice, a test? Why did I not know that birth is the pinnacle where women
discover the courage to become mothers? But of course, there is no way to tell this or to hear it. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you have no
idea how death stands in the corner, ready to play his part. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you do not know the power that arises from other
women–even strangers speaking an unknown tongue, invoking the names of unfamiliar goddesses. (Diamant 224)
A pregnant woman is thrown into this "other realm," where her strength is tested. No woman can prepare for the battle her body goes through, or for
the strength and power that arises innately from an unknown place within, which cannot be known to exist until the experience of childbirth.
In an atmosphere of fire and torment, "Dinah" features a woman prevailing despite the symbolic environment of the image. She is looking up, a sign
of hope and faith, with body language exemplifying strength and power. Not only overcoming the physical pain of birth, this woman, who could be
Dinah or any other mother, is enduring the psychological pain that society oppresses upon women. The goal of "Dinah" is to represent mothers in
Dinah's world and in Sethe's world; and even the

The Red Tent Gender Roles
The role and strength of women in a male–dominated society in biblical times is the fundamental theme of The Red Tent. The red tent is a physical
and spiritual place, where the women of Jacob's tribe–his wives, servants and daughters, could rest while menstruating and childbearing, but more
importantly, it became a safe shelter for feminist unity and companionship. The red tent provides all the women a haven to be in their power together,
to learn from one another, to be part of a community, and to celebrate their lives without any disturbance from the male chauvinism. In the "red tent",
women such as Leah, Dinah and Rachel are able to play critical and decisive roles–protectors, friends and teachers.
First and foremost, there is much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Rachel is Jacob's favored and primary wife." (Stacy, 2002, 24) Early in the novel, Rachel stands out initially for her beauty and magnetism. There is
no denying that Rachel is a professional and sagacious teacher for Dinah, her medical skill is so superb and brilliant that she has cured and saved
many lives of mothers and their babies. In Dinah's mind, "Rachel [knows] everything about delivering babies, she and Inna [try] to learn what they
might from women wherever they [go]." (Anita, 2007, 234) Moreover, Rachel teaches Dinah not only knowledge and technique about delivering babies
but also female values and philosophy about love, dedication and sacrifice. She is only one in the red tent who brings Dinah out of the red tent and
encourages her to purser the true love bravely; she has given Dinah many spiritual supports and guidance. Furthermore, Rachel is a great teacher for
Dinah and other women who live in the red tent. According to Reading the Women of theBible, in the biblical time, women were undermined by the
society in which they live in. They spent almost all their adult lives producing and looking after children. Under this circumstance, education was
limited and very few outdoor jobs were available to all women, they had to stay inside the red tent for their whole lives. They were expected to
marry and look after family because men have normally held power. However, as the midwife, Rachel seizes the opportunity to experience the world
outsider the "red tent", she can learn something new and different from the outsider so that she could teach other women about what she sees and
hears. "Rachel [becomes] their link to the larger world." (Anita, 2007, 79) She provides women freedom–freedom of thought, freedom of information
and freedom of communication under this male–dominated

Red Tent Chapter Summary and Analysis

  • 1. Red Tent Chapter Summary anson World History I Mrs. Szilagyi Book Review: The Red Tent/ Goddesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves: Women in Classical Women throughout history have always proven to be complex. Getting into the mind of women is uncharted territory, proven to be very complex. Women have always fallen inferior to men for as long as we know. Even now that women have gained most of the same rights as men, they still are not treated the same. Evolution of women through history has been a long–sought battle, and their roles in society are always changing. Women are versatile compared to men, which is a very undervalued trait. These two books only touch on some of the many roles that women can play. Sarah Pomeroy's Goddesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves: Women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her job to inform us on women in the Greek and Roman times and she has succeeded. One thing that was beneficial in making the books objective so easy to comprehend was the layout of the book. First she starts by going back through history and progressing through the goddesses and their roles and beginnings in classical mythology. This helps the novice reader to understand the basics of the history she is going to talk about. Pomeroy then ventures out and begins to talk about Homer. Homer was a very influential writer and many of the perceptions of what a woman's role was in society. To further help the understanding of the topics she will touch on in her book she begins talking about the story of Pandora to give show how the attitude directed towards women was at this time, and how it has shaped the view of women even dating back to the Bronze Ages. The most resourceful technique that Pomeroy uses is talking about the powerful women of this time, such as: Athena, Aphrodite and Hera. Many people grew up in school learning about these goddesses, so the mention of these brings about a familiarity to the reader. This is the point where we begin to compare and contrast these powerful goddesses and to the other infamous women and we see how they may begin to confuse these roles and the ones they play ... • 2. Personal Narrative: Pemberton Music Festival We sat in a little guest house above the garage, packing up the necessities and drinking tea all night. In exactly three days we were planning on leaving for a trip that would without a doubt go down in the books, Pemberton Music Festival. I received tickets to Pemberton for my birthday, not only was this my first music festival but it was in Canada! I would be attending the music festival with my boyfriend Kyle, and his two best friends Dashiell and Casey. The three days passed by in no time and before I knew it we were on our way, adventuring to Canada in a small, extremely tightly packed Ford Focus. On the 5 hour drive, we listened to everything from Dashiell's over the top EDM music to the good old classic Beatles. We had decided to drive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We had stayed on the South side, little did we know this was the mostly Canadian side. All of our Bainbridge friends had boughtcamping passes to the North side, which was another trek all the way around the festival venue. About half an hour later, we reached the North side and met up with some of our buddies. I finally had found my friends Hannah and Julia, we caught each other's eyes and I had sprinted forward with open arms giving them each a big hug. After a couple hours of drinks and hanging out, the boys, Hannah, Julia and I decided to head to the festival. The bright sky had started to darken, we all had grabbed each other's hands and skipped passed thousands of people. We watched Joey Bada$$, Flosstradamus, J. Cole and Miguel perform that night. The boys put us on their shoulders, and we had started to sing along to every word we knew. I had never felt so close and connected with a group of people before this experience. The luminescent white lights hit my face at the same time as the sudden rain. The rain poured so hard soaking every inch of my body. I had looked over to see all my friends with grins and the inconsistent flashes of concert lights on their faces. • 3. Personal Narrative Story : A Short Story "I'm so excited!" I said, as we were loading the supplies into the car. I picked up the cooler and loaded it into the back of the truck. My long brown hair brushed my face while the bright warm sun of the afternoon warmed me. Then, I started loading other things into the car, not exactly knowing where they were supposed to go. "Calm down Lexi." My mom said. "We have to make sure they are in the right places so everything can fit." "Sorry,"I said, "I just can't wait." My mom smiled. I just couldn't stay still though. I was like a little kid on too much sugar! I have been waiting for this camping trip forever. It was also going to be my first camping trip so I didn't really know what to expect. The part that most excited me was the part of sleeping in the tent. It would be a little different then my normal bed. It was also probably going to be are big last thing before school started again so I wanted to enjoy it. "Me too!", said my little sister. She looked so cute with her dirty blond type hair pinned up in the back. Be we got so bored me, my little brother and sister chased each other and played games while waiting for my cousins to arrive. I was getting a little antsy after the time started to tick away. "Where are they?" I thought. Finally, after finishing up the rest of the packing, they arrived. They are a family of 4 kids and 2 adults and have a big giant bus. You can always tell when my cousins are around when you see the white vehicle. They came out yelling ... • 4. How To Write A Short Story : A Short-A Story? It was a bright day, the sun was out. Everybody was leaving their houses and approaching to the Taqueria de Anda to meet up. We are heading out to a tropical island named Terrifiant Island. We have ordered an Uber to take us to the docks so we can rent a boat. Unfortunately, none of us knew how to steer it, so we hired a fisherman from Google. As we arrived in our Uber at the docks, we noticed the cramped boat. The fisherman was loading his baggage, including life vests. They were old and ragged, but we tried not to think too much of it. After all, we did look for a ride to the island on Google. It was cheap, why not? What is the worst that can happen? We loaded our bags onto the boat and packed an emergency bag. It included a small knife, four snack sized bags of goldfish crackers, three full canteens of fresh water, and five small flashlights that run on 2 D sized batteries. As we stepped on the boat, it creaked and the fisherman smiled, but it didn't look like a friendly smile. It looked like a smile that was hiding something, but we can't judge people on their looks. "Hey, may I see your fisherman's license?" Asked Allan. The fisherman handed the license to Allan. He observed it, and realized his name was Joe Rossel. The license wasn't expired yet, but it will be in twenty years. Was it a fake license? He gave it back and smiled. Nine o'clock A.M. It was finally time to depart from the docks. The sky was blue, and the temperature felt warm. When the boat's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personal Narrative : The Forest Of Laughter The Forest of Laughter As our first camping trip, we were quite new to the outdoors. This was the first time we have ever really did anything outdoors except for going on hikes other than that we were quite an indoor family. My dad happened to have the greatest idea of going camping but we really did not know how to do a lot of stuff when it comes to outdoor activities especially setting up a tent. I remember when we first picked out where we were going camping, I did some research on the history of this forest. Of course my parents decided not to do any research on this place at all. As I typed it into my laptop, several videos and websites came up. I clicked on one of the videos where it says, Staying The Night In The Forest of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I yelled so she could hear me. I went outside to see where mom and dad were but they were nowhere to be found, " she said with a terrified look on her face. By the way she looked, I could tell that she was not playing a prank on me like most of the other times. It just seems like I could trust her just this one time. "We have to go looking for them," I told her. "What if the thing comes back, what if it's not done? It might want more?" she said while trembling. "I have an idea don 't worry." I said trying to lighten up the situation. "Let 's use light," she said, "it might affect it." With the guiding hands of her four "mothers", Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah, all the wives of Jacob, we grow with Dinah from her childhood in Mesoptamia through puberty, where she is then entered into the "red tent", and well off into her adulthood from Cannan to Egypt. Throughout her journey we learn how the red tent is constantly looked upon for encouragement, solace, and comfort. It is where women go once a month during menstration, where they have their babies, were they dwell in illness and most importantly, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This act is translated into todays concept of rape, but as the narrative continues we see how Shechem tries to justify his manner by claiming he fell victim to love. "Being drawn to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and in love with the maiden, he spoke to the maiden tenderly" (Genesis 34:3). This, however, is not admissible in the eyes of Israel's men. Shechem's behavior is considered "an outrage in Israel...a thing not to be done", and therefore, hinders Shechem's aspiration of marriage to her (Genesis 34:7). One of the ways he is able to seek mercy is by offering Dinah's brothers and father a high bride price. This offering along with a promise for all men to be circumcised in accordance with God's command to their grandfather Abraham: "This is my covenant between Me and you and your offspring to follow which you shall keep: every male among you shall be circumcised," is a fitting plea to their ears and Dinah is wed off (Genesis 17:10). But what about Dinah's ears? Who is to say that she wants to marry this man who defiled her? What is her view on it all? Ironically, there is no mention of Dinah's feelings or thoughts throughout Genesis 34. All the attention focuses not on Dinah, but the men around her. The one who is affected the most throughout this whole ordeal is somehow left in the shadow. There even is no reference to how she succumbs to being raped, and later deceived by her own blood. Next comes folding the actual tent. For the most part the tent feels kind of grainy, it is made mostly of a thin nylon material but occasionally there is mesh window or a metal zipper. Placing the folded tent into its brown cardboard box proves to because somewhat difficult as air was trapped inside while folding it. Finding the zipper and pressing down on the tent releases the trapped air and the faint smell of dust. Luckily most of the packing was done yesterday so all that is left is loading the camping necessities into the bed of the very large, torch red truck. Blue and black leather bags filled with all sorts of clothing, a cooler filled with food, a box with minor cooking utensils and much more almost are loaded into one big colorful mess in the back of the truck. And with that it is time to head off to the camp site. With most of the tedious activities out of the way the real camping experience can begin. After a long drive stepping out of the vehicle and being greeted by nature is a blessing. The sounds of nature are music. • 9. Camping Is A Holiday Inn Camping just isn 't my thing, I told my husband when we married. "I love being outside and doing outdoor activities, but my idea of camping is a Holiday Inn." He was disappointed as he had spent many of his summers camping with his grandparents along the Mokelumne River. I stuck to my guns about going camping and we were married many years before I agreed to give it a try. One summer I agreed to take a week and go camping with him in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. I was assured the bathrooms were clean and well kept and that there would be hot showers. I was a little perturbed when I found out there were no street lights or telephones. But I adapted. I didn 't complain and had a very good time. Some evenings we went to the Campfire Center in Big Trees to enjoy whatever event or program was taking place. Those evenings, without any street lights and no moon, the path back to our camp site was really dark. I couldn 't see anything but just held on to Bill so I wouldn 't fall or step on a snake. Although, I never saw a snake while camping and I didn 't fall down. At the Campfire Center in Big Trees on Sunday morning a worship service was held by a local pastor. Since we attended church regularly on Sunday at home, we didn 't feel we could opt out of church just because we were camping. There was a brief message by the minister and lots of singing. The trip was only about an hour drive and as soon as we arrived, we set up camp immediately. My dad is very dexterous and set up our fancy house tent in no time. The tent was a weird beige and orange color that had fake windows and everything, which means that it was pretty ostentatious because my family didn't need a tent of that size. After I ate my fish cakes back in my cabin at Mohawk Mountain, heat radiating from the wood stove, I 'd felt warm enough to peel down to a t–shirt and read. That was this morning. The night before I 'd wandered the forest 's central fire roads savoring the night air and watching the shadows my headlamp cast into the woods. One can relax well in the woods in winter at night: that soothing sense of aloneness you feel at night under a canopy of stars in the winter. Now I was stumbling around through the snow–filled woods, bushwhacking. I was searching for the route to either Adams or North Adams, whichever came first, map in one hand, orienteering compass in the other, as I took in the woods ' contours, trail bends, and ice–covered stream beds. Where the heck was I? Back in the cabin awaited two panfish in a cooler, a steak too if I wanted it, and a block of blue cheese big the size of housebrick. What I wanted was the trail called Blackburnian Loop. As for where I was ––– BINGO! there it was: the beaver dam and trail I recognized from a trip here last year. Yes. Once again I 'd successfully made it back from one of my classic lost–in–the–woods hikes. • 19. The Red Tent Essay Midrash is a form of literature of Hebrew theology and philosophy. There are two types of midrash: midrash aggadah and midrash halakha. Midrash aggadah can best be described as a form of storytelling that explores ethics and values in biblical texts. "It can take any biblical word or verse and interpret it to answer a question or explain something in the text." – Ariela Pelaia. Whereas midrash aggadah focuses on biblical characters as they pertain to values and ideas, midrash halakha focuses on Jewish law and practice. Midrash halakha attempts to take biblical texts that are either too general or unclear and try to clarify what they ultimately means. The novel, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, retell the story of Dinah seen in Genesis, Chapter 34. In most version of theBible, all interpretations of Genesis, Chapter 34 infer that Dinah was raped. Importance of Mother–Daughter Relationships in The Red Tent The strong portrayal of mother–daughter relationships in The Red Tent by Anita Diamant results from the need women, like Leah and Dinah, had to share their life stories, as well as to create a sense of community among the women living in a patriarchal society. Diamant places great emphasis on the importance of mother–daughter relationships since women could not share their memories and life stories any other way. I would hold my mom's hand and walk down the same exact wet concrete sidewalk, playing games with the ground, trying not to step on the cracks to keep myself busy. We would start packing a few days before we left then my brother and I would go to school on a Friday then afterwards we would go camping. Every time I would hurry home because I was so ready to go camping. When I was little I felt like my family and I went camping everyday even though it wasn't. I have so many memories from camping and there so funny. I love to go camping because you can smell the lake, or you can start a fire which smells so good. When we cook on the fire it smells so good. Waking up in the morning un zipping the tent and getting out to be able to see the forests is so cool. Sometimes my brother and I will seat in the woods and watch boats and jet skis go by. While you are falling asleep you hear animals like coyotes or if someone had dogs you will hear them. When I wake up in the morning to the birds chirping is amazing. Also waking up in the morning when my mom was in the middle of cooking potatoes, eggs, and sausage for breakfast you could smell it, it was the best smell to wake up to. Then she would make hot coco which made it ten times better. Some days my family and I would go fishing in daytime but every day at night we would go fishing till 3:00 sometimes earlier. If my brother and I were bored we would go into a forest and play a game like hide and go seek, or tag. I know I few times my brother and I would build forts out of trees and sticks. • 28. The Importance Of Camping With Small Children Many people think taking a toddler camping is just asking for stress, headaches and complications. Actually, your toddler can learn a lot at a young age from a trip into nature. Camping with small children can be an entertaining experience while giving them the basic skills of life. –Surroundings For toddlers, life is one huge learning experience. The simplest, most basic functions of the natural world are fascinating and eye–opening to them. Camping provides the opportunity to teach your toddlers about nature and observing their surroundings. While sitting around the campsite, imagine your toddler spotting a leaf falling from a tree and the fascination in their eyes as it slowly floats to the ground. This is an opportunity to teach them about the different trees, leaves, plants and shrubs that surround them. –Basic Survival Skills Children are never too young to begin learning basic survival skills. Here 's one that can be taught in the form of a game. Bring some marbles in a bag that the toddler can carry. Other items can be used as well, but stick with non–edible ones for this lesson, or one of mother nature 's little creatures may just eat your lesson materials. Start at the edge of your campsite and choose a path into the woods that is easy enough for them to walk with you. Have your toddler place marbles on the ground every couple of feet to leave a trail to follow back to your site. Dropping and re–discovering the marbles will not only be a fun game, but will give ... • 29. An Analysis Of Peter Pan, By J. M. Golding 's ' I Die... J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, said: "To die would be an awfully big adventure." I believe it would be. I have had many experiences with almost dying. I have had many experiences where my life had flashed before my eyes. April 4th, 2014, I almost died 27 times. On that date, I looked death right in the face, and laughed at it. In the summer, I was supposed to go to a girls camp for my church. There were a few requirements we had to pass off before going. One of them was a 3 mile hike and a camping trip. We decided to hit 2 birds with 1 stone. So we set a date to go camping with the girls who were going to camp. There were about 16 girls who decided they would go. We set off on our 1 night trip on April 4th, 2014. It started off normal. A regular trail through the woods. The path started to get thinner and thinner as we walked on it. We then got to a part where we had to go over a log that was partly hanging over a chasm. I peered over the edge to see thousands of sharp rocks and a large pool of rushing water. After 3 girls had gone over the log safely, it was my turn. I slowly put my right leg over the enormous log. I had made sure to steady myself before putting my left leg over. After I had done so, I threw my left leg over and sat on the log. Then I put my right foot on the ground. I thought I was safe, but my left foot 's, shoelace got caught on the rugged wood. I pulled with force, but that was a bad idea. I got it undone, but that force threw me off balance ... I visit the mountains once a year with my family for exactly seven days in the fall, and it is time for that once a year trip. I am currently driving through the gates of the Smoky Mountain National Park! I always get very exited about this trip, because each year we visit a new campsite, and camp out there. During the first day my two siblings and I explore the land near the campsite while our parents set up the tent and build a fire. We have just arrived at our campsite. So far, this is the most outstanding campsite I have ever seen. Just looking out the window of the car I saw the tall orange and yellow trees as the autumn sun was shining down upon them. Then it finally my turn to hide in the 200 million year old mountains. I quickly ran to the old teepee that I found. All of the sticks were blocking out the hot sun beaming down on the 60–degree mountains, which in fact, never get above 80 degrees. I was the last one found in the teepee by my two little sisters. It took them about 20 minutes to find me, and while they were looking for me I could see them running through the cracks in the teepee. It was about 3'oclock which was our down time. During down time we would all go and our tents and read, or just relax. In my down time I like to think about everything I saw in the park, and do some research on the park. While I was thinking about what I saw, I remembered the beautiful orange, yellow and red leaves. I also thought about the crisp air blowing into my face, and the pretty wildflowers we saw. • 31. My Experience In My Life Out of all of my adventurous youthful years one event sticks out to me even to this day. Even though now it seems not particularly interesting or more important than anything else it still somehow persists within my memory. The event of which I am referring to happened around when I was 7, or maybe I was 6. My parents and I were going on a trip down to bennett springs state park, near Lebanon Missouri, to camp for a weekend. I distinctly remember my mother waking me up on the car ride there, you see we had left early in the morning so we could be there by sunrise, and seeing said sunrise. The sky was an entrancing viel of the deepest shades of reds and yellows, with the bright rays of the sun lightly peaking over the canopy of the proud oak trees like it was a bear slowly crawling out of his cave after a long hibernation. The light would flicker on and off through the trees as we went down the spindly road until we reached our campsite. My Father had gotten out of the car hastingly and decided that we should get our fishing supplies and go as soon as possible as the early morning hour was the perfect time to go fishing as they would bite easier. My mother was hesitant but my father unwilling to give on his decision and somehow convinced her. My Father had started to get all of the fishing equipment out off from the top of the car. After being introduced to Dinah herself, the book follows her life story from beginning to end, all the way from Haran, through Canaan, Shechem, and into Egypt. Jacob's main role with his children were to teach the boys good pasturing when they became of age, along with the ways and religion of his father, and his father's father. Dinah being the only girl was treated very differently than the boys because she did not go out into the field with her father to learn the skills that he had to offer. Instead, she stayed in the camp with her mothers and was even permitted into the red tent to learn the stories of her mother's during her youth. In fact, the first time she recalled her father ever speaking directly to her was just before the left on their trip to Canaan. As the red tent followed the life journey of Dinah she encountered several different cultures. As she traveled, Dinah was introduced to new family dynamics unlike her own. Men and women from her mother's culture did not eat with their husbands, or have any real relationship at all with them. Whereas in Egypt, men and women would sit down beside each other at meals. Husbands would kiss upon their wife's hands and show them affection in public. At first this was unbelievable for Dinah, as these things would never occur in her own culture. The most significant aspect of their personalities is their zeal for cruelty and violence. In the Testament of the Patriarchs, it is understood that God came to both the Simeonites and Levites discussing their enthusiasm for violence. Eventually, even though warned by Simeon, the Simeonites could not overcome their obsession of cruelty and violence. Therefore, the Simeonites numbers eventually decreased and they were finally absorbed into the Judahites. The Levites, on the other hand, overcame their zeal for cruelty and violence by focusing their fixation towards God thereby becoming a holy priesthood. Through passages in the bible and the Testament of the Patriarchs, Simeon and Levi were characterized as cruel, rash and violent leaders who were considered righteous in their vengeance of Shechem. But they made many dishonest and immoral decisions such as enslaving Joseph. Even though they made these dishonest decisions, the Levites were able to sustain and thrive as a holy priesthoodНѕ whereas the Simeonites were unable to change their ways, this eventually led to their obsolescence. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern women have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions of women like Dinah.Form, structure and plot The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet beautifully simple way. She was a mid–eastern girl, but little else is said of her appearance. Dinah’s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah’s character: "Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows" (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. "Whispering secrets" proves to be an important element in Dinah’s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to daughter in a never–ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah’s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in ... On a creative level, Diamant did something extraordinary. She took a small passage from the Bible about the character Dinah, and made her story into an unforgettable testimony to women's strength and power. Overlooking women's role in Biblical life is easy because there is practically nothing written by or about women. Why did I not know that birth is the pinnacle where women discover the courage to become mothers? But of course, there is no way to tell this or to hear it. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you have no idea how death stands in the corner, ready to play his part. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you do not know the power that arises from other women–even strangers speaking an unknown tongue, invoking the names of unfamiliar goddesses. The red tent provides all the women a haven to be in their power together, to learn from one another, to be part of a community, and to celebrate their lives without any disturbance from the male chauvinism. In Dinah's mind, "Rachel [knows] everything about delivering babies, she and Inna [try] to learn what they might from women wherever they [go]." (Anita, 2007, 234) Moreover, Rachel teaches Dinah not only knowledge and technique about delivering babies but also female values and philosophy about love, dedication and sacrifice. She is only one in the red tent who brings Dinah out of the red tent and encourages her to purser the true love bravely; she has given Dinah many spiritual supports and guidance. Furthermore, Rachel is a great teacher for Dinah and other women who live in the red tent. Under this circumstance, education was limited and very few outdoor jobs were available to all women, they had to stay inside the red tent for their whole lives. They were expected to marry and look after family because men have normally held power.
