Mission of ICAT Toastmasters Club
DearValued Readers,
Happy New Year 2018 and welcome to the
taxes (Excises &VAT) in UAE/GCC countries.
What an amazing quarter October –
December 2018, ICAT reached a milestone
with its 300th meeting, organised dedicated
VAT sessions, Tall Tale contest and celebrate
Diwali festival together.
To us as Chartered Accountants,VAT is a great opportunity to add value
to us professionally and as toastmasters, we are better geared to be
more impactful with the effective communication and leadership
training we have at ICAT in our daily life.
We had an inspiring 300th meeting and it was
privilege to listen to our distinguished Past
Presidents. Members who have missed the
meeting can listen to the speeches at the
following weblink - goo.gl/UcxPPN or scan the
image on right with your smartphone.
I look forward to our members to take active roles in our club meeting for
their personal and professional growth. I have found ICAT
complementing my growth inspite of the tight schedules at work.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my ex-com team, Past
presidents, ICAT mentors who came forward with their contributions
inspite of their busy schedule.
Finally, I thank our sponsors for giving contribution toward publishing of
the newsletter. I also thank TM Ravoof, web designer who worked hard
to make newsletter in printable format.
Wishing you all a very happyVAT and Audit season ahead.
YoursTruly,

Focus on your objectives
Recently I heard a speech from a new toastmaster. The speech title was
“objectives”
The important contents of the speech are as follows
- For every speech assignment in toastmaster’s manual, there are a set
of objectives
-The speaker has to ensure that the speech objectives are properly met
in the speech
- If the evaluation speaker found that speech objectives are not met, or
the speaker not satisfied on fulfilment of speech objectives, speaker has the freedom to repeat the
speech.
- In life also, whatever we do should have objectives. If the objectives are not met, we may not get the
second chance to live a life.
I believe the speaker has conviction and clarity on toastmasters’ programme and how to lead his own life.
I also believe this is the right context to connect with toastmasters with our personal and professional
life.
Every leader should be very clear on their objectives to become successful. Every leadership role in
toastmasters clearly defined. I am very much proud to note that all our ExCom members are certain on
their objectives and that is why, ICAT club is running so successfully by fulfilling its mission.
I am grateful to our VP PR Dharmendra Gupta for putting so much effort, energy and time to issue this
second edition ofWisdom newsletter inspite of the fact that he is so busy in newVAT regime and regular
accounts closing and audit.
I am sure you will welcome this newsletter with high enthusiasm. I am also sure that with your continuous
support, we can take ICAT to newer height and progress.
While doing anything in life, let us be very clear on our objectives just like toastmaster’s communication
and leadership objectives. Having objectives and keeping focus on it is the guaranteed formula for
success
Wish you a happy and prosperous NewYear 2018 !!

Beyond the Realm of Change
The wave of change has swept many things in life. Human roles are
taken over by ground breaking technologies. Many essential aspects of
life are conquered, controlled and now dominated by machines.
We witness emerging phenomenon like Artificial Intelligence,
AutonomousCars, Hyperloop, BlockChain,Cryptocurrency, exponential
innovations in space research, warfare and even diagnostic processes
done by machines instead of doctors.
Accounting now predominantly vests in screens and keyboards, cloud
techniques facilitates instant information flow from wherever you are and mobile phones emerged as
integral part of human life.
Basic life style and bread earning process went through tremendous transformation too.
Are there any values that have resisted the tidal wave of change that contains human ethos? There is still
no substitute for motherhood, affection, love and togetherness. These are basic traits of human life
which survives in its own originality. The flow that makes it survive is, understanding each other and
communicating with each other.
Essentially, communication is what keeps that dynamism on. Mothers will love their children, siblings
will grow up together, spouses will live celebrating the spirit of love, and more importantly from a
personal and formal life stream, leaders will continue to govern and guide. These mandate that one need
to be an efficient and effective communicator. It is not just a matter of a speech, it is reaching out,
influencing, and impressing others with what to convey, and more importantly, navigate and evaluate
own potential to do so. Even the ability of observing others sheds light on way of thinking and analytical
skills, scrutiny, words, gestures, voice, and so on.
Despite all techno connectivity, human involvement will remain as an inevitable process and hence
becoming an able communicator will add strength to their personality. This defines and redefines the
relevance ofToastmasters.

16. FORMER ICAT PAST PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGES on 300th MEETING
ICAT is a platform to grow our leadership and
communication abilities at our own time and at
our own pace.
TM Ganpat Khumbhat (2010-11)
As Chartered Accountants, we believe that
technical skills should be learned and public
speaking skills comes naturally. In reality,
public speaking requires at least as much
learning as any other skill. Chartered
accountants should join toastmasters with
focus to become better public speaker,
communicators and leaders.
TM Razack Aslam (2008-09)
Spirit of Toastmaster “Once a toastmaster
always a Toastmaster”
TM Shaju Perinchery (2013-14)
What lures people into Toastmasters is public
speaking, but what happens in reality is that
they first become better listeners. Better listen-
ing is followed by better thinking and then by
better speaking.
ICAT leadership has demonstrated smooth
transition from year to year and from one presi-
dent to another.
ICAT members should ideally aim at reaching toastmasters
international as contestants, and then of course.........winning!
TM Ramesh Mahalingam (2006-07)
Growth needs transformation, Transformation
needs Change, Change needs transition and
Transition are never easy.
The six pillars of life help during the transition
phase:
1. Positive mental attitude
2. Sound physical health
3. Good relationship at home and workplace
4. Financial freedom
5. Social network like toastmasters
6. Spirituality – to be honest, respectful, humble and righteous
person
TM Wilson Lewis (2012-13)
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It
knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or
it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it
will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether
you're a lion or gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you'd better be
running f- by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum
For a Chartered accountant to be leader and better communicator,
toastmasters give him edge to be ahead in the race for Excellence.
Mahesh Prabhu (2014-15)
Tips to become good to great Speaker:
1. Study the audience
2. Be fearless
3. Do not aim for perfection but making every
speech excellent
4. Find out objective of speech – motivational,
educational, inspirational, persuasion or
combination of all.
5. Conversation with eye contact
6. Try to put humour in the speech
7. Be precise
8. Never miss the opportunity to speak
TM Surinder Sareem (2015-16)
ICAT Toastmasters club is a part of the Toastmasters movement that helps in developing the art of
communication and leadership qualities amongst Indian Chartered Accountants.
We meet on 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month at 6 pm, at Dubai Public library, Mankhool Road, Bur Dubai.
ICAT IS VERY SPECIAL - When we complete
CA and leave India to work in Dubai, ICAT
helps CAs to easily get in touch, develop
friendship. ICAT provides motivation,
emotional support, friendship within the same
profession. It provides amazing atmosphere to
develop an untouched subject of public
speaking, untouched subject of spontaneous
talk, untouched subject of how to interact with
an unknown person, a Demo place to develop leadership skills.
There are few other toastmasters clubs in Dubai, however ICAT is
an ICON, it is very very special, I love ICAT!!
Thanks to everyone who were behind the thought and who are still
developing it for the future generations.
TM Mohan Nalla, Im. Past President - (2016-17)
