2. Purpose of Cause Effect Diagram(CE)
 The major purpose of the CE Diagram is to act as a first step in
problem solving by generating a comprehensive list of possible
causes.
 It is also called Fish bone diagram
 It can lead to immediate identification of major causes and point to
the potential remedial actions or, failing this, it may indicate the
best potential areas for further exploration and analysis. Preparing a
CE Diagram will lead to greater understanding of the problem.
 Fishbone diagram is a great value in assisting teams in categorizing
the many potential causes of problems or issues in a systematic way
and helps identifying root causes.

3. A fishbone diagram be used when:
The team needs to study a problem to determine the root cause
Want to study all the possible reasons why a process is having
difficulties, problems, or breakdowns in the initial stages of the
process.
Need to identify areas for data collection
To study why a process is not performing properly and/or producing
the expected results

5. Topic: Poor placement of the
students
 There may be many reasons for the poor placement of the
students. The task before us is to find out the reason for
poor placement using why-why analysis and through cause
and effect diagram. We also propose suitable solutions for
the poor placement of the students.
 The methodology is to find out the major cause or
department in which the problem is present
 And then we have deeper analysis of the problem
 We will look in to the various reasons under that department
and try to find out the basic and real solution of the problem

8. Solutions Proposed:
 It can focus on each and every reason stated in the above fish bone
diagram
 For example: If it focus on the infrastructure merely focussing on the
infrastructure will not solve our problem. We have to focus on the reasons
that are causing problem under the broader title INFRASTRUCTURE.
 So it can focus on improving facilities in the college and transportation
facilities in the college so that it can ease the placement process.
 If it is focusing on the resources it can focus on the focus on the
development of technology and books in the college so that they can
facilitate the process of placement by helping the students to gain more
knowledge
 If it focusses on Communication skills it can help people in improving their
communication skills by providing them extra coaching classes and there
by helping them know the importance of communication skills etc..,

9. Conclusion:
 Hence the solution of the given problem was easily analysed using
cause effect diagram.
 The solutions was easily obtained from cause effect diagram by
going deeper in to the analysis of each reason
 Detailed analysis can be easily done using the cause effect diagram
 We can first identify the department in which the problem arises
and then can have a complete vision of the entire department’s
problems and reasons that causes these problems
 Hence by this way the problem was analysed and reasons for the
problems can be easily obtained using cause effect diagram
