This document provides information about a national level seminar on renewable energy technologies for sustainable rural development in India. The seminar will be held on January 29-30, 2015 at Government Arts College in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It will discuss how renewable technologies like hydropower, solar, wind, and biomass energy can ensure sustainable development for India's rural households, agriculture, and industries. The College
The college was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1969 so as to provide higher education to the rural poor students. It is affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University and accredited by the NAAC by B+. It is in the northern part of Madurai and situated on the Madurai to Trichy National High way. It is 29 km away from Madurai Mattuthavani Bus Terminal and 34 km away from Madurai Railway Junction.
The college is accomplishing the goal of the Government of Tamil Nadu of providing quality education to the students living below the poverty line, who are the first generation graduates and the downtrodden. The college works for the welfare of the nation, inculcating discipline in rural youth and cultivate national integrity among the students. The college has committed for the improvement of the standard of living of the people who are living in and around it. The college admits students in such a way so that it ensures social justice. The college introduced the second shift scheme of the government of Tamil Nadu and therefore provides chances to more number of rural students to get quality higher education. There is no second thought that the college is really a boon to the poor downtrodden people of the northern part of Madurai District.
The Department of Economics
The department of Economics came up in the year 1985-86. It conducts UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes in Economics. This Department has a very good Library. The B.A. Economics course is conducted in two shifts. There are eight faculty members in this Department and five have got Ph.D. Degree. The P.G. programme was started in 2011 – 12 and the Ph.D. full time programme was started in the academic year 2014 – 15.
