In most developing countries, the empirical studies show that there is extreme inequality in the distribution of education. A small section of the population is very highly educated and the majority of the population has practically no education at all. India is a good example of this phenomenon, South Korea is an exception. -Discuss the possible reasons of educational inequalities and also suggest changes in education policy that may achieve a more equitable distribution of education. Solution The possible reasons of educational inequalities:- 1. High Growth of Population:- The continuous rise in population has became one of major cause of extreme inequality in distribution of education across the country. It reduces per head availability of the facilities. 2. Several imbalances:- A greater proportion of resources have been diverted towards higher education, which is meant for few people as compared to primary and secondary education. Due to this reason, not only there are educational inequalities but also general productivity of economy remained also very low. 3. Gender Bias:- The enrolment of girls in both primary and upper primary classes is much below the boys. This gender biasness is one of the major reason of educational inequalities across the country. 4. Low level of Government expenditure:- The actual expenditure by the government on education is quite less than the desired expenditure. Further the resources are not properly utilised. Suggestion for changes in education policy that may achieve a more equitable distribution of education.:- 1. Control over population growth:- Population growth must be controlled to achieve more equitable distribution of education. It will lead to overall development in the economy. 2. No Gender Biasness:- Every person has right to the education. There should not be any gender biasness in education field. Each and every girl must be provided not only primary but also the secondary education to improve her quality of life equally to the boys. 3. Providing vocational and technical training:- Too much emphasis on general education almost to the point of neglecting technical and vocational education has lead to an emergence of greater education inequalities and consequent unemployment. Therefore, government should focus on providing vocational and technical training to the youth people so that they can be self-reliant and self-dependent. 4. Increase Resources and ensure its optimum use:- There is an urgent need for increasing the resources for investment in education sector and it must be ensured that resources are properly and effectively utilised..
