1. FOOD SPOILAGE
1. The growth of microorganism such as bacteria and fungi on
food can causes food turn bad.
2. As they grow, they release chemical substances into food .This
causes the food to spoil.
3. Microorganism also produce toxic waste products that make
the food poisonous.
4. Microorganism grow when the following condition are present:
 Air
 Water
 Nutrients
 Suitable temperature
 Suitable acidity
5. Bacteria and fungi normally grow best in warm, damp and dark
surroundings.
6. Food spoilt by microorganism normally has one or more of the
following characteristic:
 Unpleasant smell
 Unpleasant taste
 Changed colour
 Changed texture
 Mouldy
7. Spoilt food is unsafe to eat. Such food may cause stomach
upset and food poisoning.
