About University
• Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) is Sweden's first politechnic.
• It is Scandinavia's largest institution of higher education in technology
and one of the leading technical universities in Europe.
• KTH was founded in 1827 under the name Technological Institute.
• In 1877 the name was changed into the current one.
• In 1927, KTH was granted the right to confer its own doctorates.
About Me
• I have granted a chance to study at KTH in Master’s Program in Land
Management.
• This chance is organizing by TEMPUS within which are cooperating
Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction, Royal
Institute of Technology and University of East London.
Grading system
• In KTH the grading is in credit system.
• Subjects are studied by lectures, seminars, exercises, filed trips etc.
• The lectures take about 40% of course.
• Final credits are formulated by current works and in a result of exams.
Lectures
• Each subject conducts by several lecturers.
• Beside the main lecturers the chairs invite guest lectures, who explain
practical problems.
• The lecturers make presentations and distribute handouts of them to the
students.
• Mostly attendance to the lectures is not compulsory, but some are. And
if a student missed such a lecture, he should do additional assignments.
Group works
• One of the most important part of each course is a group work.
• Students are divided into groups which are consists of students from
different countries, religions, specifications and with different work
experiences.
• These group works help to improve language skills, to know other
cultures and traditions.
• Group works are not only very useful, but also are very interesting for
students.
2. Exercises
• Exercises in general are compulsory.
Study trips
• Study trips are lessons outside of KTH, even of Stockholm.
• They can be a part of lectures, during which students see how the
organizations work with the problems which they study.
• Study trips can also be organized for specific projects. Students go and
see in the exact places which area they are going to plan etc.
LM Administration
• Administration always ready to help the students with any problem.
• They organize all study process:
– providing the students with the books
– putting all the handouts and materials on bilda
– organizing filed trips
– organizing interesting entertainments for students, like visiting
sightseeing, trips to other countries etc.
Bilda
• In KTH one of the most important part of study is institute’s website
(http://bilda.kth.se).
• On the first day of study each student gets a username in that site.
Through the bilda the students always can be aware of everything, even
if they not present at the lessons.
• The results of exams, projects, assignments are put on bilda.
Examines
• In the beginning of the study at KTH each student must sign a
document “The rules for written examinations”. Only after signing
this document they can take place in exams.
• The exams are controlled by persons, which have no connection to the
subject.
• During the exams the role of lecturers are to answer to the students
questions, if they have any. For that reason the lecturers enter to the
room only several times and for some minutes.
• Exams are incognito; lecturers never know whose work they check and
grad.
