4. RALLY HISTORY & PRESENT
South Punjab is loaded with distinct and unique historical assets and rich cultural values and
traditions. With a view to promote and showcase its assets, TDCP initiated Motor Sports
event during the year 2005 in the majestic desert of Cholistan.
The event proved very successful in highlighting the Cholistan’s rich heritage, traditions and
gradually become Pakistan biggest Motor Sports event.
The event is widely covered by local and international electronic media. APP reported
250,000 visitors attended the event.
The event is organized by TDCP in collaboration with District Government Bahawalpur,
Pakistan Army, Rangers, Police, Houbara International foundation, & other provincial
departments.
The budgetary component of event is met by Punjab Government, TDCP & sponsorship by
corporate sectors.
Building upon previous years success TDCP is now hosting 10th Cholistan Jeep Rally wef 13-
15th Feb, 2015. We are endeavoring to upgrade this event at international standards by
inviting foreign participants and observers.
5. ABOUT CHOLISTAN
The Cholistan (Rohi) Desert is spread over 16,000 sq km in district
Bahawalpur, once a fertile region fed with Hakra river (the Sarswati) but
now dried;
Cholistan is connected to Thar desert which is extended to Sindh and
then into India
The word Cholistan is derived from the Turkish word chol, means
"desert". The people of Cholistan lead a semi-nomadic life,
Seraiki language is dominant. Great Sufi Poet, Khawaja Ghulam Farid
belongs to this region.
Cholistan has a clusters of high value assets including ancient
archeological sites dating back to 4500 years. Hakra-Indus Civilization
to Harappan sites, forts, palaces exhibiting unique culture with rich folk
traditions of dance, music, rites and customs;
6. TDCP organized 1st Cholistan Jeep Rally in 2005, amid magnificent backdrop of
Derawar Fort to promote South Punjab as touristic destination;
More than 100 Drivers participate in the event from all over Pakistan every year.
Cholistan desert and its surrounding areas got wider recognition due to this event which
has also improved upon the socio-economic condition of locals and placement of
appropriate infrastructure;
During the rally the drivers covers distance of approx. 220 KMs in a loop. During 2014
women drivers also participated.

8. ABOUT RaLLY VENUE
The rally starts and finishes at Derawar Fort in the Cholistan Desert.
The Rally Camp Office Derawar Fort is 45 kms from Ahmedpur East where communication,
services, lodging & boarding facilities are available. The nearest airport is Bahawalpur
approximately 65 kms from Ahmedpur East.
9. RALLY ROUTE
The TDCP Cholistan Jeep Rally is divided into two stages. The starting/finishing point would be
DERAWAR FORT in the Cholistan Desert. The Rally participants have to cover approximately 225 KMs.
There are several Control Checkpoints as well as Time Control Checkpoints along the Rally Route. All of
these checkpoints are clearly marked on the route and the exact number and location is disclosed in
the Drivers/Navigators Briefing session held a day before the Rally.

The TDCP Cholistan Desert Rally is a tough and thrilling driving competition for 4WD spread
over two special stages in the Cholistan Desert.
