3. Film 100: BEAR
Jack has a history of taking things too far, including
practical jokes, as his ex-girlfriend, Jill, will tell you. In
order to surprise his new girlfriend, he buys party supplies
and rents a realistic bear costume. He is going to fool her
into thinking he’s forgotten her birthday but he’s actually
planning to surprise her on her bike ride. He goes to the
woods and sets up the birthday party surprise and puts on
the bear suit. Emilee rides up and he jumps out to scare
her, assuming she’ll turn right into the birthday
banner/surprise. Instead she turns left and falls off a tall
cliff. Jack is terrified she’s dead and runs down to check on
her. She appears to be OK and he explains his whole plan
to her. Meanwhile, a park ranger is watching the scene
unfold from a cliff far away and thinks a real bear is
attacking Emilee. He shoots Jack dead while he’s sitting
on/over Emilee. A red balloon from Jack’s surprise party
set-up floats by.

5. Film 100: BEAR
A title card tells us that Jack’s ex-girlfriend, Jill, thinks Jack
always takes things too far. We then see Jack and Emilee
wake up and his girlfriend (Jill?) is clearly upset about
something. She then leaves for her bike ride and we see Jack
jump up and prepare some sort of surprise. He rushes to the
woods in his car. Emily is riding through the woods when a bear
suddenly jumps out and scares her. She takes a sharp left and
falls down a steep cliff. We see the bear take its head off and
realize it’s Jack – he’s set up a surprise birthday
party/banner for her (we see her name is “Emilee” and not
“Jill”). Jack runs down the hill in his bear costume to check on
Emilee. He explains to her it was all a surprise/practical joke
and is relieved to see she seems basically OK. He puts his
head back on and plays like he’s going to attack her while
Emilee laughs. Suddenly a shot rings out and Jack falls dead
onto Emilee. A ranger has been watching and has shot Jack,
thinking he was a real bear attacking Emilee. He calls out, “Is it
dead?” as a red balloon from Jack’s surprise party wafts by.
