Immaturity and maturity theory of motivation proposes that people enter the workplace in an immature state, characterized by passivity, dependence, shallow interests, and a subordinate position. However, with proper encouragement that allows independence and active participation, people can develop into a mature state over time. Mature workers are characterized by independence, having diverse behaviors and deeper interests, long-term thinking, potential for superior positions, and self-awareness. This theory suggests that treating workers as mature, rather than immature, creates an environment that better motivates workers and allows them to develop.

3. Immaturity and maturity theory of motivation was proposed by
CHIRS ARGYRIS. He is a business theorist and professor emeritus at
Harvard Business School.
Immaturity and maturity theory has become a widely
accepted strategy for motivating and managing human resource.
Immature and mature is a way of thinking that focus on
individuals.
4. Argy is found that when people enter in to a
work environment, they are treated with distrust and
are encourage to remain passive ,a dependent ,and
subordinate, thus perpetuating the cycle immaturity. In
an organisation , many people are treated as immature
people by their co workers and superiors.
5. 1- PASSIVE
2-DEPENDENT
3-BEHAVE IN A FEW AWAYS
4-ERRATIC SHALLOW INTERST
5-SHORT TIME PERSPECTIVE
6-SUBORDINATE POSITION
7-LACK OF AWARENESS OF SELF
6. According to Argyrols ,seven changes should take
place in the personality of individuals if they are to develop
into a mature people over the year.
First, individuals move from a pass state as infants to a state
of increasing activity as an adults.
Second, individuals move from passive states of
dependency upon others as infants to a state of relative
independence as adults.
Third ,individuals behave in only a few ways as infants , but
as adults they are capable of behaving in many ways.
Fourth, individuals have erratic , casual and shallow interests as infants
but develop deeper and stronger interests adults.
Fifth ,the time perspective of children is very short, involving only the
present ,but as they mature, their time perspective increase to include past
and future.
7. Sixth , individuals as infants are subordinate to
everyone , but they move to equal or superior
positions with others as adults.
Seventh , as children ,individuals lack on
awareness of a ‘self ’ but as adults they are not
only aware of , but they are able to control ‘self ‘.
8. Active
Independent
Capable of behaving in many ways
Deeper and stronger interest
Long time perspective
Superior position
Awareness and control over self
9. From the above discussion it is clear that this theory has
become a widely accepted strategy for motivating and
managing human resources. This theory works in in practice
when understand and accepted by the individuals and
organisation involved.
