1. COSTUME PRESENTATION
•COSTUME: costume is defined as a tool to
express an art form usually worn by the
performers to enhance meaning of a production
for example by adding colour, texture, shape and
symbolism that determine the atmosphere,
according to Mark Walters.
•COSTUME DESIGNING: is the process of making
up costume through various patterns by the
designer normally by the sketch drawings on
paper or on computer
•COSTUME DESIGNER: is a person responsible for
creating the costume for the performers as well
as the look , shape, colour and style of what a
performer wears in a production 1
2. THE PROCESS OF COSTUME DESIGN
• The costume designer should read the script and
understand it
• Start the research about the costume used in a given
period and setting.
• Find why design choices were made in that period
• Research what character or body time you would
want to play each role; answer the question: “what
does this character look like physically?”
• Understand the character’s height and weight
• Adding colour to the costume design
