Argumentative Essay Reflection One of my central struggles throughout high school has been
writing essays and reports for all classes not just english. I was a little worried when I signed up to
take this course, since it counted as a college credit. Even though I was worried about taking this
course, but I am thankful that I did. The main reason behind my decision to take this course is
because I thought it would better prepare me for college. This argumentative essay was one of the

One of the areas of my writing where I was struggling in using my voice. Granite, there were parts
of my essay where I successfully integrated quotes within my voice, but for the most part that was
my weakest area. For example of one of my better integrated quotes, in my third paragraph when I
say, "Today, consumers rely on social media for everything, whether it is communicating with old
friends, finding new friends, shopping, researching, and staying informed with the latest news.
Daniel adds that, "'Americans who take part in political activities on social networking sites also
tend to be highly active in other areas of political or civic life'" (29), which insinuates that people
rely on social media more today than we have in the past". This was one of my better examples
because I further explain and analyze the quote in my voice instead of just ending the sentence
after the quote. One of my poor examples is, "Many people who suffer from depression care a lot
about what others think about them. That is why many of those people tend to turn to social
media as an outlet to express their feelings". I made a bold statement and did not back up what I
said with my voice I just ended that sentence and moved on. Instead of moving on I should have
explained it further and told them why people tend to turn to social media to express their feelings.

Thousands of individuals are living in poverty. Why is it that this worldwide dilemma is still
rising in rapid numbers till this day? Is it because of a lack of authoritative power, or a lack of
one's self control to do good? Despite the unknown cause, it has managed to drastically affect the
lives of many. Poverty is like a curse, one that is wrongfully placed, difficult to get out of, and
resistant to many forms of help. The pinpoint cause of poverty is challenging to find. People who
live well off and are above the poverty line may be quick to assume that laziness, addiction, and
the typical stereotypes are the causes of poverty. Barbara Ehrenreich, a well known writer on
social issues, brings attention to the stereotypical ideology at her time, that "poverty was caused,
not by low wages or a lack of jobs, but by bad attitudes and faulty lifestyles" (17). Ehrenreich is
emphasizing the fact that statements like the one listed, often influence readers to paint
inaccurate mental pictures of poverty that continue to shine light on the ideology of stereotypes
being the pinpoint cause to poverty. However, there are many other causes that are often
overshadowed, leaving some individuals to believe that poverty was wrongfully placed upon
them. Examples would include: high rates of unemployment, low paying jobs, race, and health
complications. Which are all out of one's ability to control. There is no control over a lack of jobs
and high rates of unemployment, nor the amount of inadequate wages the working poor receive.
Greg Kaufmann, an advisor for the Economic Hardship Reporting Project and The Half in Ten
campaign, complicates matters further when he writes, "Jobs in the U.S. [were] paying less than
$34,000 a year: 50 percent. Jobs in the U.S. [were] paying below the poverty line for a family of
four, less than $23,000 annually: 25 percent" (33). Acknowledging Kaufmann's fact, the amount
received for a family of four is fairly close to the yearly salary of a high school graduate, which
means, receiving that kind of pay for one man may seem challenging, now imagine caring for the

If a person knows many facts, it is impressive, but not very useful. It is of much greater importance

The thing that would make this essay more informative is explaining the in–text citations a little
more. Sometimes you jump right into a source without introducing it first, that can get a little
confusing as a reader. There were also a couple times that you ended the in–text citation, without
explaining it. So, introducing and ending in text citations would make the essay more
informative. There were times that I was confused because it went from talking about one source
at the end of a paragraph to another source at the beginning of the next paragraph. 2.What would

One of the most pressing topics of debate in the recent years has been the different sources of energy
and their effects on the environment. People have started to realize the negative effects of

Who am I? What is it that defines that personality? Anzaldua argues in her essay that the language is
what defines one's identity. Language is indeed an important component of culture, and culture is
known to be a crucial definer of identity. People use language to connect to their identities and

Tan clearly mentions in her story that she had to speak two different languages to her Asian mom
who had her own made up English. Tan relates to both her Asian descent and American belongings
by using her mom's made up English to speak with her mom, and uses the proper English to give
