2. OPENING
The theatrical trailer opened with 3 establishing shots of 3 different locations of the beach which
automatically suggested the importance of these three settings throughout the film and trailer.
After this shot the trailer was then edited to jump-cut to the Lieutenant saying “welcome to Baywatch”
then a tracking shot occurred of the lifeguards on a speedboat.
3. BUILD UP
The build up of this trailer was when the lifeguards and trainees were having lunch outside, and there
were continuous shot reverse shots and panning shots of them asking questions about what it is they
think lifeguards do, and the Lieutenant telling them they do the polices job. This was the point in
realisation that they had to do actual work.
4. PROBLEM
There was a point of view shot of the trainees seeing restaurant staff transporting drugs into a box in
the kitchen. This was significant as it depicted one of the scenarios they would have to conquer.
Another was a long shot of the lifeguards and trainees wearing fancy ball-gown wear as costume to
disguise themselves at a party as they had to find evidence that people were being murdered. This was
a height of a problem as they realised they were doing the job of the police.
5. EVENT
• There was a point of action when a tracking shot was presented as the Lieutenant and an antagonist
were on water boats shooting at each other, which initially indicated that the Lieutenant was getting
justice for the beach.
• A low angle shot of the Lieutenant was used at the end of the trailer as he jumped out of a boat that
was on fire (using CGI) and saving a women who appeared to be a damsel in distress; this shot made
the Lieutenant appear superior and heroic.
