3. Galatians Is Freedom In Christ
• Galatians 1&2= Paul defends his apostleship
and the Gospel.
• Galatians 3&4= Paul presents 5 different
arguments showing that justification and
sanctification are both, by faith not flesh/law.
• Galatians 5&6= How that should impact our
life/walk (application).
4. Galatians 3 Ended With;
• Gal 3:24 “So then, the law was our
guardian until Christ came, in order that we
might be justified by faith. 25 But now that
faith has
come, we are no longer under a guardian,”
(Gal 3:24-25 ESV)
• Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are
Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to
promise.
5. Gal 4:6, Spirit of His Son
• Gal 4:6 And because you are sons, God has
sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your
hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!“
• Which Spirit?
• Who’s Crying?
• “because you are sons” then we get “the Spirit
of His Son into your hearts”
6. Gal 4:8, Who Enslaved You?
• Gal 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know
God, you were enslaved to those that by
nature are not gods.
• There is no freedom except in Jesus Christ.
• Without Christ we our slaves to the world,
the flesh, and the devil.
• Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ
set us free; therefore keep standing firm
and do not be subject again to a yoke of
slavery.
7. Gal 4:8, What Enslaved Us?
• 1John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the
lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life—is not of the Father but is of
the world.
• 1Cor 10:20 …the things which the Gentiles
sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to
God…
• 1Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that
in latter times some will depart from the
faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and
doctrines of demons,
8. Gal 4:9, Known By God
• Gal 4:9 But now that you have come to know God, or
rather to be known by God
• Would you rather “know God” or “be known”?
• Matt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord,
Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one
who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we
not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in
your name, and do many mighty works in your
name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never
knew you; depart from me, you workers of
lawlessness.’
9. Gal 4:10, Keep The Whole Law
• Gal 4:10 You observe days and months and
seasons and years.
• They are working very hard at it.
• James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law
but fails in one point has become accountable
for all of it.
10. The Penalty For Sin Is….
• Ex 19:12…Whoever touches the mountain
shall surely be put to death.
• Ex 21:12 "He who strikes a man so that he
dies shall surely be put to death.
• Ex 21:15 "And he who strikes his father or his
mother shall surely be put to death.
• Ex 21:16 "He who kidnaps a man and sells
him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely
be put to death.
• Ex 21:17 "And he who curses his father or his
mother shall surely be put to death.
11. The Law Or The Law Of Christ
• Gal 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so
fulfill the law of Christ.
12. Gal 4:14, They Received Him As Christ
• . Galatians 4:14 and that which was a trial to
you in my bodily condition you did not
despise or loathe, but you received me as an
angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.
• Our goal should be to be like this also;
• 2Co 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for
Christ, as though God were pleading through
us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be
reconciled to God.
13. Galatians 4:16, Know Your Enemy
• . Galatians 4:16 So have I become your enemy by
telling you the truth?
• The military philosopher Sun Tzu famously said,
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you
need not fear the result of a hundred battles.“
• If Job knew the One he thought was his enemy,
He would have known better.
• 1 Peter 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your
adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring
lion, seeking someone to devour.
14. Gal 4:20, I Have Doubts About You
• Gal 4:20 I would like to be present with you
now and to change my tone; for I have doubts
about you.
• Does he have doubts about their salvation or
sanctification?
• Gal 4:19 my little children, for whom I am
again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is
formed in you!
15. Gal 4:24, Interpreted Allegorically?
• Gal 4:24 These things are being
taken figuratively: The women
represent two covenants. One
covenant is from Mount Sinai and
bears children who are to be
slaves: This is Hagar.
16. Gal 4:27, More Children?
• In scripture, the metaphors, parables,
allegories, word pictures, similes, and all
of the other 200 literary devices have
only one central meaning. You cannot
leverage them. Do not try to identify
every aspect of these figures of speech.

17. Gal 4:27, More Children?
• Gal 4:27 For it is written: "Rejoice, O barren, You
who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who
are not in labor! For the desolate has many more
children Than she who has a husband.“
18. Gal 4:31, We Are Of The Free!
• Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not
children of the bondwoman but of the free.
• Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by
which Christ has made us free, and do not be
entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
