The crow and stork were once good friends who helped each other find food. The stork's feathers were dark while the crow's were white. The stork asked the crow for the secret to its white feathers. The crow shared the secret on the condition it be returned, which the stork agreed to. However, the stork became selfish and wanted all storks to be the most beautiful, keeping the secret for itself. When confronted, the stork dyed the crow black as revenge for wanting to remain the most beautiful bird alone. Ever since, crows and storks have been enemies with different feather colors.
1. Assalamualaikum and good morning to all honourable judges. I’m Aisyatul
from Sk Bukit Tempurong. Today I would like to tell a story entitle the crow
and the stork.
The crow and the stork
In the beginning the crow and the stork were good friends. Often, they would look
for food together. They would fly to a lake with clear waters or over the hills. They would
rest in the dense jungle.
At the time, the stork had feathers which were not white, but rather dark and
unattractive. The crow on the other hand, had shiny white feathers.
One day, the stork asked the crow the secret of its shiny white feathers. “we’ve been
friends for a long time. It’s not fair that you should tell me the secret”, said the stork. “Can
my feathers become white like yours?”
“I can tell you the secret. But you must promise not to reveal it to anyone,” said the
crow. The stork jumped at the offer. The crow then revealed the secret of its beauty. “After
you have finished using it, you must return it to me,” it insisted.
The stork agreed. It carefully mixed the colour given by the crow and applied it to its
feathers. In the wink of an eye, its feathers became shining white.
The stork could hardly believe its eyes. It had become the most beautiful bird in the
world. Then a selfish thought crossed its mind. All storks should be the most beautiful and
whitest birds in the world. The stork forgot its promise to the crow which had revealed its
secret out of the kindness of its heart.
When it was time to return the colour, the stork pretended to have forgotten about
it. “You must return the colour to me”, insisted the crow. The stork returned to its nest. It
mixed the colour until it got an ugly black shade. Then it went in search of the crow.
“Where is the colour?” asked the crow. Immediately, the stork took out the colour it
had brought along and splashed it on the crow’s body. The crow’s body feathers which had
been white changed into an ugly dark colour.
“Why did you do that?” asked the crow angrily. “I want to be the most beautiful bird
in the world. I do not want to compete with any other bird, including you,” said the stork
haughtily.
This angered the crow. It went after the stork which flew away, trying to escape.
From then on, the crow feathers have remained black. The crow was no longer attractive.
The feathers of the stork, however, were white and shiny.
The crow and the stork became bitter enemies. They could no longer meet without a
fight breaking out between them.
That’s all from me, tq. Hope you enjoy my story.
