Felix Gonzalez-Torres also transformed the role of the viewer in the art
arena. We, as viewers of art, are taught from an early age that works of art in
museums are meant to be looked at, not touched. Gonzalez-Torres completely
disregards this notion and often invites viewers to touch, taste, take, and arrange
his installations. His disregard for the ‘rules’ of the museum and gallery space
transcends the role of the viewer
and their ability to experience his
work. Two examples of works by
