2. In our opening sequence, we use often over
played stereotypes in order to establish roles
quickly, and somewhat effectively. By having
the characters in the “dream sequence”
donning hoodies, we can establish that they
are gang members, and although this
stereotype is somewhat clichéd, it allows the
audience to infer that they are involving in
suspicious activities, perhaps adding clarity in to
the events that follow.
3. The next stereotype present in our opening
scene would be that of the boy and his friend.
We wanted to convey the idea that they are
two ordinary teens, (one of them caught up in
events beyond his control). We do this by
making references to popular teen culture, such
as Facebook, and gaming habits. The setting
also contributes to this stereotype, as we set it
not in a “high octane” area, but simply in his
bedroom, adding to the atmosphere of
normality.
