Adobe Photoshop We begun digital techniques looking into the photo editing software Adobe Photoshop. During this session we were taught how to cut part of an image from a photograph and placing this onto another image. I cut around the head and placed it onto a drawn image. Then I selected a piece of material from the left overlaying them onto the image to create the effect of cloths.
Adobe Photoshop The next exercise in Photoshop was to adapt an image using the filter tools within the program. I chose the effect that I thought suited the image the most with the help of the preview window to decide this.
3D Max During the 3D Max session we were given the opportunity to experiment with the program allowing us to explore making different shapes and objects. I had to get used to using the different drawing screens and moving the objects around the drawing space. I then experimented with zooms and camera angles. Once I had gone through the experimental stage we were taught how to carry out specific techniques such as Bevelling and Lathing which is where you draw around half an object then using this technique to create a circular object. This is my attempt of using the lathe tool.
3D Max In the same 3D Max session we were then told to use the methods/ tools that we had found and learnt to create a stage type object that was contained by a wall. It was then our task to begin to recreate this Victorian kitchen this must include the table and we must start to put objects onto the table. At another occasion I started experimenting with the texture and lighting tools this being one of the experiments.
Auto CAD At the beginning of the Auto CAD session we were taught some of the basic rules of the Auto CAD program such as pressing enter after a command and then pressing escape to cancel a tool. I found this program very different to any that i had used before. We firs created a square, then taught how to duplicate an object, fillet a corner tilting an object and creating inverts. We were then shown how to add measurements onto different shapes and angles. After this we created this shape, this was done by using the line tool, invert, 2point circle and the trim tool, because this shape is symmetrical we used the mirror tool .
Auto CAD This was the final piece that we created using Auto CAD and all the tools and techniques were used to make this floppy disk including measurements. We used different colours to show the different parts of the design.
Evaluation Throughout the weeks I have been studying Digital Techniques I have learnt alternative ways to create the design of a theatre production. I would use the different programs to create the different components within a design. I could use Adobe Photoshop to create costume designs, different materials can be scanned into the program and then put onto a drawn image. This would allow me to create a number of designs quickly and if they needed to be, characters could have a costume that looked the same. 3D Max could be used to create to design the actual theatre space as well as any sets or props that would be put into this space. What is good about this program is that you can work in layers so you can view a before the set was designed in a space and an after view of the space. Auto CAD could be used to draw out the technical drawings and elevations of props that I would need to do after designing and making the model box. This would be an alternative to a drawing this onto a stage elevation as it would produce a neater more accurate drawing, with exact measurements that would be easier to create.
