City, Iowa, ACT is trusted as the United States’leader in college and career
readiness, providing high quality achievement assessments grounded in
more than 50 years of research and experience.
More than 64 percent of 2016 US high school graduates took The ACT®,
making it the most popular college admissions test in the United States.
The ACT measures academic achievement, including knowledge and skills
taught in school and deemed important for college success. ACT scores
are accepted at all colleges and universities in the United States, including
the most highly selective institutions. Beyond the United States, more than
150 universities in 39 countries accept scores on The ACT as part of their
admissions requirements.
ACT uses its unique research to align its assessments to national
curricula and to maintain their predictive integrity. The assessments are
also benchmarked with rigorous international standards, such as those of
the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), to ensure global
competitiveness and comparability.
ACT Education Solutions, Ltd (AES)
ACT Education Solutions, Limited offers the Global Assessment
Certificate™ program (known as the GAC), and a suite of English Language
Programs (ELPs) to students around the world. As part of the GAC, all
students are eligible to take The ACT, which is given in English and
measures their readiness for college-level coursework.
Successful GAC graduates are admitted into more than 110 GAC
Pathway Universities located in popular international student destinations
including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and
ACT, Inc.
Europe, or closer to home in Southeast Asia, Singapore, and Mexico.
The University of Iowa admitted 254 GAC graduates between 2012 and
2015. Of these, 33 percent will graduate with double or triple majors.
Currently, AES programs are offered in conjunction with local
institutions in China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Mexico, Canada, and
Suriname.

The Global Assessment Certificate program
“The GAC really fulfilled my dream of going
abroad. During my study in the GAC I gained
practical skills, like how to communicate, how to
design a PowerPoint, how to deliver a speech, how
to catch up with key points in a particular lecture
or an article, how to prepare for an interview and
how to write a resume, all of which familiarized me
with the teaching and learning methods in Western
countries.
“Gradually, I began to get used to the way
of learning in Western countries ... thinking and
communicating in English, doing role plays and
giving speeches in English. The GAC offered me
a chance to study, to improve my English, to
experience the differences between Chinese and
Western cultures and to adapt to the environment
of studying abroad in advance.
“What is more, it equipped me with the skills to
live and study in a foreign country and to overcome
the obstacles on the road of studying abroad.”

The Global Assessment Certificate program
(GAC) is a university preparation program that
provides students with the academic knowledge,
skills, and confidence to enter and successfully
complete a bachelor’s degree at one of many
selected universities. GAC graduates can apply
for admission to more than 110 postsecondary
institutions – Pathway Universities – in the United
States, Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand,
the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. Some Pathway
Universities offer credits for an undergraduate
degree, and a number of them offer scholarships
which can significantly reduce tuition and living
expenses.
All students who complete the GAC are eligible
to take The ACT, a multiple-choice test that covers
four areas of study: English, Mathematics, Reading
and Science, and an optional test of Writing. This
test is used extensively by universities and colleges
in the United States to determine undergraduate
entry. The GAC is the only international university
preparation program that includes preparation for
The ACT as part of its curriculum.

The GAC has been accredited at Certificate IV
(pre-university) level by the Australian Skills Quality

With more than 4,500 accredited higher
education institutions in the United States, the
options are almost limitless.
Study in the United States
The United States is one of the most exciting
places to study in the world. Here you will encounter
leading technology, world-class professors, cutting-
edge subjects and students from around the world.
According to the Institute of International Educa-
tion’s Open Doors 2016, the number of international
students at colleges and universities in the United
States topped one million for the first time in 2016,
confirming that the United States remains the most
popular global destination for higher education.
Colleges and universities in the United States
range in size from less than 1,000 to more than
50,000 students. There are three main types of in-
stitutions – colleges, universities and institutes.
The terms ‘school,’ ‘college,’ and ‘university’ are used
interchangeably in the United States. Both state and
private universities offer undergraduate (or bach-
elor’s) and graduate degrees.
Colleges are usually smaller than universities and
offer only undergraduate degrees. Institutes tend to
specialize in vocational skill areas such as fashion, art
and design or technology. There are also commu-
nity colleges that offer two-year associate degrees
at a lower cost than university study. It is possible to
transfer to the third year of a bachelor degree at a
state university from community colleges. Education
USA recommends starting to research your choice of
college or university 18 months before commence-
ment to allow plenty of time to decide on the most
suitable option for you.
Most universities and colleges are coeducational,
but single sex institutions are available as well. Choic-
es include liberal arts colleges that focus on broad
preparation in academic disciplines, and schools
that provide professional, career-related training.
Bachelor degrees take four years to complete. In the
first two years there is an emphasis on a broad, well-
rounded education. You will be offered a wide range
of classes—mathematics, science, the arts, social sci-
ence, and languages—before you begin your spe-
cialization in your third and fourth years. In the first
year you will be known as a freshman; in the second,
a sophomore; in the third, a junior; and in the fourth,
a senior. As an international student, you will be ex-
pected to study full-time.
A key factor in choosing a college or university in
the United States is location. The east coast and west
coast are popular destinations with very different
cultures and lifestyles. The midwest and northeast
are home to many quality educational institutions if
you don’t mind cold, snowy winters. Many universi-
ties are located in small towns rather than large cities
and students who prefer an exciting urban lifestyle
should choose carefully.
Cost may be a major factor in deciding which
college to attend. The average cost for students liv-
ing on campus at four-year undergraduate colleges
is varied. You must consider living expenses during
holidays, including the summer break, and round-
trip transportation from your home country.
It is a good idea to investigate sources of financial
aid in your own country as well as those in the United
States. Keep in mind that application deadlines for
scholarships and other financial aid programs may
close long before your planned date of enrolment.
Contact an advising center, the US embassy, or
other organizations about financial aid as soon as
possible. For more information visit the US Depart-
ment of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Af-
fairs’website for study in the United States:

89% of international students say that they are
satisfied or very satisfied with living and studying in
Australia
Study in Australia
Australia is the third most searched-for international student destina-
tion in the world after the United States and the United Kingdom, despite
having a population of only 24 million. According to QS Best Student Cities
2016, five Australian cities rank in the top 30 globally for students (Mel-
bourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, and Adelaide). In fact, the Australian
government has reported that 89% of international students are satisfied
or very satisfied with their experience of living and studying in Australia.
Australian universities are widely recognized for excellence in many dis-
ciplines, and institutions deliver practical and career-oriented training, en-
suring graduates have the skills needed by employers in the 21st century.
Australian universities are major participants in international education
and research projects and initiatives. They recruit academic staff who are
leading experts in their fields from around the world.
Higher education in Australia is made up of two sectors: the university
sector and the vocational education (VET) sector, both comprising public
and private institutions. Each of Australia’s universities and vocational col-
leges has its own strengths and areas of specialization, giving you a wide
choice as well as access to the latest technology and research in your cho-
sen field. You can choose from traditional academic areas of learning and
research or more practical courses. Bachelor’s degrees generally take three
years to complete, although specialized degrees such as Medicine or Engi-
neering can take from four to six years.
International students are required to study full-time under the Austral-
ian government’s student visa regulations and are also eligible to work for
up to four years after the completion of their university course (Temporary
Graduate Visa, Post Study Work stream).
In Australia, students take an active role in the learning process. Univer-
sities place great importance on developing the ability to think creatively
and independently, read widely and critically, participate in debates and
function in teams. These skills will give you an edge in a competitive and
ever-changing world.
The rewards of studying at an Australian university are endless. Develop
your potential in an innovative, flexible, yet supportive learning environ-
ment while you enjoy Australia’s unique environment. Students in Austral-
ia balance study commitments with leisure time spent outdoors enjoying
the fresh air and often-warm weather.
Australian universities will challenge and reward you academically, per-
sonally and professionally. For more information, visit: www.studyinaus-
