80% of Canadian manufacturers surveyed in a new report are facing an immediate labor and skills
shortage that was made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.
TORONTO — 80% of Canadian manufacturers surveyed in a new report are facing an immediate labor and skills shortage that was
made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. A Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters survey of 563 companies across 19 sectors
released Dec. 1 found the need for skilled laborer's has been growing rapidly for years, but COVID-19 government relief, health
concerns and family responsibilities are making the situation even more troublesome.
“Our skills gap that existed before the pandemic was just exacerbated by the pandemic and we need to make sure that everybody is
working toward getting that next generation of workers in the sector,” said Dennis Darby, president of the CME.
His organization, which represents more than 2,500 companies across the country, said 70% of manufacturers had a shortage of
labor and skills in 2018, up from 40% in 2016. source https://www.canadianmanufacturing.com/manufacturing/eight-in-10-

10. Blog – 2014 – Skill Trades
Tim, Wow! Another flimsy posts! Who is responsible the trades? Oops, that would be the provinces. So, what did Wynne and
McGuinty due to support the trades in Ontario? Your posts all about slamming harper as such you do not even look at the
matters that provinces have jurisdiction!! Did you look at AIT? Wynne is the problem in Canada as she is too focused on
useless policies! Yet you never say anything on why the college of trades has been not successful with the skills gap, why?
1. AIT has said there are barriers to trade including the LP in Ontario clauses that support unions:

shortages-exist-in-canada.pdf. Who trains Electricians, Welders, Plumbers, etc.?

3. Harper has double the transfers as such portion of the transfers relates to education, but you said nothing about that in
your posts, why? http://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/provincial-transfers-and-program-spending/ It is not Harper’s
fault that Wynne decided to use the money to expand University spots, instead of the trades: http://www.wlufa.ca/the-
implications-the-2014-ontario-election-for-higher-education
Your posts continue to get more funnier as it does show me you have no clue what you are talking about in terms of
government policies. Justin Trudeau wants to up the transfers to provinces, but never said where that money will go in terms
trades or R&D. So, where does JT stand on education?
11. Summary
• There are many challenges facing skill trades in Canada. Skills trades have
received more funding but there are less people registered for the skills
trades than were in 2015 -
