POLICY AND
AFFAIRS
• Prime Minister and presidents speak to their counterparts around
the world. Many presidents and prime ministers won’t agree with
each other on policy, but you need to respect each leaders position
• There is pattern with Trudeau that is world does not view Trudeau
as heavyweight, but a lightweight
• Canada is not back with world leaders
• Trudeau maybe a fan with citizens of various countries, but not
leadership.
• Trudeau has been called out many times for his nonsensical
statements.
• Trudeau decided to use virtual signal calling which the rest of the

OTTAWA – Canada is trying to patch up frayed relations with the Japanese government
after holding out on signing a major Pacific Rim trade deal championed by Prime Minister
Shinzo Abe.
Tensions flared between the two countries after Canada effectively blocked progress on
a deal to salvage the Trans Pacific Partnership, an 11-nation trade deal anchored by
Japan after U.S. President Donald Trump quit the pact. Canada continues to push for
revisions that leave the deal, created in part as a check on China’s economic clout, in
limbo — days before Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau heads to China himself.
Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said he discussed the issue with Japan’s
ambassador to Canada in a meeting in Ottawa on Tuesday. “We cleared a lot of the
issues and restated we are partners and friends in many things, and have made progress
toward trade in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said in an interview Wednesday. “And I think
this is understood now by both sides.” Japan Times – December 1, 2017
11. CHINA AND TRUDEAU
Source - http://vancouversun.com/opinion/op-ed/opinion-trudeau-learns-hard-lesson-on-
disappointing-trip-to-china
Unfortunately, many believe that the Trudeau government and pertinent Canadian trade negotiators,
simply failed to properly understand some of the attitudes and long-term goals underlying the policies
of the ruling authorities in Beijing, among them President Xi Jinping himself.
It’s thought one key factor in the failure of the talks was that Chinese authorities had no wish to
commit their government to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s much-publicized emphasis on non-trade
issues, including commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the advancement of women’s rights
and their greater participation in society.
Put succinctly, some regard the unexpected breakdown in the trade talks with China as greatly linked
to the Trudeau government’s failure to truly understand what was required to achieve an acceptable
trade deal with Beijing.
That same view also arose following the recent public criticism by former Prime Minister Stephen
Harper that Trudeau had adopted questionable and potentially harmful tactics during the current
renegotiating of the 1997 North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada
and Mexico.

The ties between the two countries are without parallel anywhere in the world. Trade between the U.S. and Canada
totalled an estimated US$673.9 billion in 2017, with a surplus of $8.4 billion for the United States. Each day, about
400,000 people cross the world’s longest international border. There is close co-operation on defence, border security
and law enforcement, and a vast overlap in culture, traditions and pastimes.
As with most intimate relationships, there have been rough spots.
Limited trade wars over lumber, pulp and paper, and other products have flared on and off for decades. In the early
1960s, there was a bitter rift because of personal enmity between President John F. Kennedy and Prime Minister
John Diefenbaker, who balked at U.S. pressure to be more aggressive in Cold War manoeuvrings.
Later, the Vietnam War caused some divisions, as Canadians—including Justin Trudeau’s father, then-Prime Minister
Pierre Elliot Trudeau—welcomed American draft evaders who crossed the border. And some Canadians, notably the
Ontario intelligentsia, tend to regard Americans as more crass and gun-happy than people north of the border.
“In general, Canadians have looked at us as a large, powerful, unruly but basically good child—a big animal that they
don’t have to worry about but does stupid things now and then,” said Stephen Blank, an American academic who has
taught at universities on both sides of the border.
The flare-up came as the recent G-7 summit in Quebec concluded. While Trump headed to his meeting with North
Korea’s leader, Trudeau told reporters that Canada would retaliate against new U.S. tariffs it viewed as unfair. Trump
was furious, pulling the U.S. out of the G-7 joint communique and calling Trudeau “dishonest” and “weak.

Canada has become the latest county to use Australia as a guide on how to deal with rampant foreign influence after a
conservative senator said such laws were “essential for Canadian political sovereignty”.
Canadian opposition senator for Ontario Linda Frum has called for Australia’s new laws, which were introduced into
parliament last week, to be urgently reviewed by her country’s parliament.
“It’s essential for Canadian political sovereignty that we examine this very, very closely,” Senator Frum said last week.
“I think we need to look at it and I think we need to look at it urgently.”
She told Canadian radio that the Sam Dastyari case was a sign Australia had let the problem of foreign influence get
out of control.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was given a guarded welcome to India as a way of showing "polite
displeasure" over his country's sympathies with Sikh nationalists, an expert has said.
Mr. Trudeau touched down at New Delhi airport over the weekend to be greeted only by a junior agricultural
minister. He is not due to meet Indian premier Narendra Modi until the sixth day of his week-long tour.
His trip to Taj Mahal was also a small-scale family affair – with most attention being paid to the PM sporting
Star Wars footwear in an apparent nod to Mr Modi's favourite film.
By contrast the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warmly embraced by the Indian leader on the

Under former prime minister Stephen Harper,
Canada achieved in four years what took India
and the U.S. 18 years. The sticking points were
Canada’s mistrust of Indian nuclear ambitions
and India’s dismay at Canada’s then bipartisan
wink-wink-nudge-nudge approach towards
terrorism on Indian soil, epitomized by the Air
India (AI182) bombing. Initiating both the perjury
trial of Inderjit Reyat to overcome double
jeopardy laws, and a public inquiry into the
entire sordid affair, the Harper government’s
actions served as a signal to the Indian
government that the ambiguity on terror was to
end. This was followed up with a robust
intelligence sharing architecture to ensure the
slow but systematic build up of institutional
trust. On the nuclear front, the Harper
government enthusiastically supported the India
exception at the Nuclear Suppliers Group in
2008, concluding its own bilateral nuclear pact
with India in 2010
Harper and India
Trudeau and India
Contrast this with Trudeau, a man with
the unique ability to unite India’s left
and right in a common dislike for him.
The left-leaning Congress Party’s
supporters detest him for being an
enabler of Khalistani terrorism. The
right-leaning BJP supporters revile
him for being a practitioner of the very
worst forms of identity politics. And
Trudeau has taken it on himself to
prove them both right. His ascent to
the top of the Liberal Party was
powered by the disenfranchisement of
Sikh moderates who allege that
Trudeau rigged internal elections to
favour the violent loony fringe. This
fringe is exactly what is represented
in his cabinet, ministers who
passively acquiesce to terror through
omission and diversion.

Yet despite the lethal threat that its GCC partners saw in
the Brotherhood, Qatar continued to chart a pro-
Brotherhood course. Following the Egyptian coup, Qatar
granted refuge to some Brotherhood leaders who escaped
from Egypt, and Al Jazeera housed them in a five-star
Doha hotel and granted them regular airtime for promoting
their cause. Al Jazeera also aired the Brotherhood’s
ongoing anti-coup protests, and in some cases
allegedly paid Muslim Brothers for the footage. In
response, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain withdrew
their ambassadors from Doha in March 2014, accusing it
of violating the GCC’s principle against interfering in
members’ domestic affairs. The standoff was resolved
quietly two months later, and Egyptian Brotherhood
leaders left Doha later that year.

The liberals since they took office in 2015 constantly make policies to win in the polls and/or to improve relations with

• If the liberals where successful with foreign policies and affairs, then Canada
would not be facing so many issues with countries. You elect Justin Trudeau and
