The document provides an analysis of the agriculture equipment sector and commentary on related topics. It includes a bio of the author, Paul Young, and an agenda covering issues like commodity prices, crop estimates, food prices, farm income, technology and farming, government programs, and debt. The summary highlights struggles farmers are facing with high input costs, the need for government coordination on housing and land use policies, and rising farm debt levels which may be exacerbated by interest rate hikes.

Blog - With Demand Soaring, Booming Food Sector Turns to Food Contract Manufacturing
As demand for food products increases nationwide, businesses are frequently turning to food contract
manufacturing companies to meet that increased need rather than adding additional capacity internally.
Anticipating that demand will eventually return to normal levels, food producers can work with an experienced
co-packer to enhance their operational efficiency without needing to make substantial asset or equipment
investments in-house that may sit unused later on.
Sourcing for food contract manufacturing on the Thomasnet.com platform is up 133% year over year and up
277% over last quarter averages.

billion in 2021. In inflation-adjusted 2021 dollars, net farm income is forecast to decrease $12 billion (9.7
percent) in 2021 after increasing $37.8 billion (44.2 percent) in 2020 to its highest level since 2013. Despite
this decline, 2021 net farm income would be 21 percent above its 2000-19 average of $92.1 billion.

Summary:
Farmers continue to struggle with input costs
The government is undertaking a food costs study. Supply chains are extremely complicated. Nowhere
has the to government mentioned that their study will also look at input costs driven by their policies
like fuel standard or carbon pricing.
Federal, state, provincial, local government, and private sector continue to face hurdles in terms of
developing a housing strategy. All levels of government need to look at the best way to protect viable
fertile land while providing affordable housing solutions to their residents.
UK is taking brave steps to prevent wind and solar farms being built on arable farmland
Little has been said about the government of Canada and their stance on fertilizer. Crop yields are
critical when it comes to both food costs and security. Expert/Vertical/smart practices continue to
develop in a way to better support expanding crop yields. More needs to be done via tax policies
including capital costs allowance as part of supporting farmers adopting smart/vertical/expert farming
practices.
Farm debt continues to rise. Higher interest rates may start impacting farmers when it comes to
financing capital purchases.
Circular economy needs to be push through capital costs and R&D policy changes and not through
carbon tax/pricing. The most efficient way to address climate change is to look environmental practices
that are sustainable.
Vertical farming for remote communities needs to be push as part of reducing food costs. This can also
be accomplished through development of natural resources in Canada. The additional tax revenue could
then be used to better support infrastructure in remote and rural communities.
